Von's Chicken has some of the best fried chicken I've had on the island. I ordered two half orders (the half order consists of 10 wings, and the full order consists of 20 wings) one of the regular fried chicken and one of the crispy fried shoyu. The first thing you'll notice is that the chicken is so crispy. Even after picking up the food and then running to grab bubble tea and then getting home to eat it, the chicken stayed really hot and crispy. The regular fried chicken was good, but the fried shoyu was the best of the two. It has a faint hint of shoyu and gave it a nice flavor. Highly recommend trying this flavor. The chicken is on the expensive side for the amount of food as I could easily eat the half order myself and still be a little hungry. However, this was premium fried chicken and the price reflects this. The main tip here is that you need to call ahead. The chicken is made to order and it takes about twenty minutes for them to make it. The menu isn't large so it's best to decide beforehand and call. There is only street parking so you may need to hunt around or if you have two people you can park in the petco parking lot while someone runs into pick up the food. Never in my life I have ever experienced such bad customer service. My bf & I have been here many times and ordered fried chicken and apparently this time they mess up our order and fight with us telling us "no you ordered mild, (which we did)" i explained to them that it's a sauce cup on the side and got our order wrong telling us it is seasoned chicken we ordered but in fact all we ordered was crispy fried chicken & sauce on the side and when we tried to correct them in a nice way they gave so much attitude and did not want to fix the chicken. I was furious and when my bf decided to get a refund from them they started to yell and cause a seen. Never have I ever experienced such bad customer service to the point where I wanted to sue their establishment and we were very professional and nice and still received such bad attitude. We ordered the chicken wing plate which included 4 wings. For almost $10 you would expect to have 4 whole wings. Instead it's 4 wing pieces with two tiny mandoos. Huh??? I do not get all the hype. Maybe I went on a bad day. I am Korean and had family visiting from Korea so wanted to take them to try this since it's always raved about. Their wings were just okay, none of us were highly impressed.. I had gotten one of the smaller plates that came with four pieces of Korean Fried chicken, rice, and something else. I'm so happy that I ran into Vons today! It was almost like fate...my lunch plans fell through so I decided to run errands instead. After they were done, I went over to Pensacola thinking that I'd just pick up a quick sandwich or something. But as soon as I saw Vons on Pensacola and Young, my sandwich thoughts escaped me and I found myself gravitating towards Korean chicken instead. Now I go to Seoul on a fairly regular basis, and when people ask me what my favorite thing to eat there is, I always say fried chicken. Seriously...American fried chicken is good, but Korean fried chicken is infinitely better in so many ways! This isn't local-style Korean chicken that is just regular American chicken covered in sauce. Fried chicken in Korea is usually only served at bars, has a wide range of flavors and spiciness, and somehow manages to stay crispy after 5 bottles of soju and beyond. You can also tell its legit Korean chicken because of the way they cut their chicken...the pieces are unrecognizable to a regular passer-by but in Korea the chicken is cut in such a way that you are able to pretty much get all the meat off the bones. No waste and crispy, what more could you ask for?! Vons has two preparation styles and six flavors. Though the oven roasted chicken looked good and is probably a little healthier, I opted for the half order of mild seasoned crispy chicken. The half order cost $11.99 for 10 wings/drums, but I think you can also opt for boneless chicken. There is also a plate lunch option ($6.99 for 4 pieces of chicken, 2 mandoo, 2 scoop rice, and 1 scoop mac salad) which I considered but did not get because I didn't really want the rice/mac. I also ordered a side of mandoo out of curiosity, which was $3.99 for 10 pieces. I figured that since they were blasting the local Korean language radio station, the chicken must be pretty legit. I waited about 10 minutes for my order to be ready, and the owner boxed everything up neatly and even threw in a small container of daikon for me to try. Even though it was hot outside, I walked quickly back to my office because I could not wait any longer to try the chicken...it smelled amazing! After my 10 minute walk back to my desk, I immediately dug in. Even though the chicken had been sitting in the takeout container for 10 minutes, it was still very crispy! I'm happy I opted for the mild sauce, since it was a little sweet and hardly spicy at all. Tasted almost like the chicken I had a month earlier in Myeongdong, Seoul! By the way...Korean spicy is VERY spicy, so if you go with the hot option just beware and don't touch your face with your saucy fingers (it will probably sting!). The mandoo, on the other hand, was less impressive. Although the outside was crispy, the inside was totally mushy and I have a feeling that the mandoo is not made in-house. It was just meh, but it went well with all the extra sauce that was left in the chicken container. If I hadn't ordered the mandoo and if I was eating in a judgement-free world, I think I could easily finish the 10-piece half order of chicken by myself and be a happy camper. Vons now takes credit card, and is BYOB as of today. Parking is metered on Pensacola or Young, so be prepared to walk a little if you can't find parking nearby! Our office decided to try a big order of fried shoyu chicken and mandoo. 1 full order and 1 half order oc hickey was enough to feed 5 to 6 people. The mandoo was ok but not worth getting again, it did not have a lot of flavor. Went because of the yelp reviews and I am forever grateful to the yelpers that led me there. This location is small, and did not have a bathroom. They did however have a place to wash your hands, which was all I needed. The chicken is cooked to order and takes about 15 minutes. I tried the garlic crispy and the shoyu crispy flavors. Each was delicious in its own way. The garlic is not anything like any other garlic flavor I've ever had and it was delicious. The shoyu tasted similar to sweet chili sauce. I was staying in a hotel room that did not have a microwave. The husband and I had the chicken cold about six hours later and it was still just as good and flavorful. The wing pieces are big and a half order is 10 pieces and was priced at $12.99. we had left over us because we ordered to have orders. A half order with sides could easily be shared between two people, except for the fighting that might ensue if someone tried to take an extra piece. The chicken was so good, my husband and I made another trip to Vons before we left and tried the rice cakes too. They were tasty as well, although I don't have anything to compare them to as it was our first time trying them. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The same Guy took our order and was pleasant and helpful. Vons is a chain based out of Korea. According to the map I saw on the inside, the one nearest to where I live is it in Texas. Besides Hawaii the only other US locations are in California. I will definitely be making my way to Vons the next time I'm in Houston. read more

I love chicken wings. Vons Chicken does it right. Juicy on the inside and flavorful on the outside. The size of them are pretty good too. Last visit, I got the Spicy Fried Seasoned (HOT) for $21.99 (20 pieces). There are other flavors and you can select half order to mix and match. Caution: Hot spicy level is hot!! If you like fried chicken Von's is great! The service is always really good and your chicken always fresh and hot made to order. I recommend calling in your order because of this because if you walk in you'll wait 15-20 minutes while they cook your chicken. My favorite place to go to for dinner after a long day at work! It's street parking and sometimes there aren't any available. But if you go around 5:45/6pm there usually are some spaces which is perfect. I always get the crispy fried shoyu. So goooood! I like eating in because the chicken is better when it's freshly made!
