Came here for karaoke on a Thursday night. The guy at the front desk was very nice and even gave us extra minutes, which we appreciated. There's also a large parking lot out front, so parking was easy and convenient. The rooms themselves were decent, but the karaoke setup definitely felt outdated and was harder to use than expected. There were two ways to select songs: using the Korean karaoke system or a Samsung tablet connected to YouTube. We ended up using YouTube, but the system was frustrating to navigate. The tablet had a thick film over the screen that made clicking difficult, and searching songs had to be extremely specific for karaoke vibes (for example, typing "Love Story KTV" instead of just the song name). It was also inconvenient trying to queue songs while someone else was singing because you had to minimize the current video to search the next one, making it hard for the person singing to follow the lyrics. On top of that, every time we tried adding songs to the queue, it would accidentally click into another video and cut off the current song mid performance. A lot of time was wasted just trying to search and add songs. It would be better if they allowed Bluetooth connection to personal devices instead, so adding songs would be more efficient, just a thought... read more

Volume Up is a place of LEGEND in Edgewater. It's been around for years - it's a cult favorite to the locals, and yet I've never experienced it until a few weeks ago. I suppose I am in the minority but...this is the most basic, bare-bones karaoke experience you can have! I'm saying this after going to luxury karaoke establishments (see my review for Tokyo Kitty in Cincinnati) and doing karaoke at bars for years. This establishment provides you with a room (a different size depending on your party), a mic, and a tablet with Youtube. The place has no ambience whatsoever. It is not just BYOB, it's BYOE - as it, BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING! You literally bring everything yourself - both food and drinks! To me, that is where Volume Up is really missing out, not just on the experience of the people, but also revenue. I can understand it being a BYOB to cut down on costs, but to offer no food at all? They have some canned / bottled drinks and snacks, and that's it. You can get delivery to this place but that adds an extra to your evening, and if you come here hungry you're SOL! (I would even take the reverse and order drinks here and bring snacks.) We were here with a party of about 12 people. The room was a little tight for us, but it suited us just fine - the next room up would have been a little more money. They have one AC unit for the room and TBH it got incredibly hot after drunk singing for two hours. Also, as I mentioned, the karaoke was literally a tablet connected to Youtube - and if you moved the table off of its holder, the cast disconnected and you had to get the desk worker. It's a cheap night out with friends! We had fun, the prices were fair, but if I were to go somewhere to get my karaoke fix, this wouldn't be the first place I would pick. read more

This was my first time going to a karaoke place. I asked the group I went with "is this the typical karaoke experience?" and they said yes - this was the standard. I really enjoyed the vibes! When we were waiting for the room, we saw other people coming in. This place seems really popular. Some people were going all out: coming in with decorations and trays of food and giant coolers and some people were wearing matching outfits. You get the room and make it yours and can get creative. It was fun to hear the other rooms screaming their hearts out. We had our room for 2 hours, but I wish we booked more. I finally felt comfortable at that 2 hour mark and said "man, we were just really getting started!" My one complaint is they have poor WiFi. They had a YouTube option where you can choose a lot of modern songs, but the WiFi was so spotty that it kept freezing. We went to using the more "traditional option" which was an older karaoke song list. It was still good! I liked how simple the process was to get in and get singing. What a fun place! I reserved a room for 4 of us on a Friday for 3 hours. The room was cool - there were lights and plenty of room for all of us. Unfortunately, they said they don't sell food so we ordered and had food delivered there. There was plenty of space on the table for our food too which was nice. They had a nice selection of songs by title and by artist. We had an amazing time! It was $32 an hour for the room we were in (price for 4 people). I recommended Volume Up for karaoke! read more

Came in for a mini celebration with some family. We had a booking ahead of time. We had a reservation for 5 that a family member has booked for 2 hours. We hit some traffic on the way, which made us about ten minutes late. They strictly specified to come on time to the reservation. Regardless, employees were accommodating towards us as it was a very busy weekend. Regardless of when we arrived, we were fine still paying our full time. As soon as we paid, we were brought over to our room. On the way in, I was shocked to see many very large rooms to accommodate big parties up to 20-30. I also noticed a chicken restaurant connected to this place. Once we entered our room, I saw menus for their food. This made sense; I would assume they partner to sell the product of the chicken place. Aside from that option, they do allow guests to bring their own food and drink. We had a dinner reservation after our karaoke, so we just bought a few snacks they were selling at the front area. In terms of our experience, the room and system were easy to navigate. Pretty similar to any other karaoke, you choose your song option from a large book of different selections. You type in the respective code for the song, and it plays the background and lyrics for you to sing along. I was also happy to see disposable covers for the microphones to keep things sanitary as you hold them so close to your face and mouth area. We all had a great time during our experience. They had a very good selection of songs from a wide variety of artists and years. Two hours in this room was a little long, but that was something in our control. I'd say the golden amount of time at a place like this is an hour. Regardless, the price for 5 people came out to $20 per person. I think this is very fair compared to other karaokes and considering we had a two hour booking. Overall, I really have nothing negative to say about this place. Not only is it super fun and clean, but it's right around the corner from the Main Street of K-town in Edgewater. It's a great place in proximity to awesome restaurants and activity options. Free parking, walk upstairs and wallah the room sizes vary and the song selections are endless, they carry both English and Spanish editions. Last weekend, my friends and I decided we were having way too much fun to go home and just end the night. So, one person in the group suggested we go here to keep the party going and we all agreed! I actually did not even know this place existed, but I am happy to know it does now because it was a blast! I'm not sure about the weekdays, but on the weekends it is open until 5am. So if your a little boozed up and feel like singing at the top of your lungs with a group of people than this should be your "go to" spot. To top it off, it's a BYOB which also adds to this places greatness. Large parking lot. Big private rooms with large couches and big tables (fun to dance on btw). The overall cost for 5 to 8 people is $40 an hour. Super cheap!!! There are only two things I was not crazy about. 1. The karaoke books...a lot of it was in Korean and it was difficult to find songs. I think it would be easier if they had two different books. 2. The microphone was loud, and it made the voice echo a little too much. I think that should be toned down. We had a blast ringing in the new year at Volume Up. Our group of 11 came here after having Korean BBQ for dinner, and it's similar to other karaoke places we've been to (nothing too special about the decor or ambiance), but what stood out was their flexibility with bringing in our own alcohol and food. We called ahead of time to make sure they didn't mind us bringing a cooler into the room, and they had no issues. What we also appreciated was the wide selection of music (we were surprised they had all the EDM songs we were looking for), and the ease of using their karaoke equipment / remote - everything in English (I believe we got the English room) and easy enough to navigate. This place was very easy to miss when driving on River Rd, so a few of us had to circle around a couple times but eventually found it. read more

I celebrated my birthday here in the XL room with about 40 people. The room size was GREAT! Very spacious with couches all around the room. There were also several coffee tables which were great to hold the cake, chips and of course drinks. There were several screens throughout the room which was nice so everyone could see the words no matter where you were sitting. The room is BYOB and you are allowed to bring a cooler with ice and your own cups, plates, etc. We also had pizza delivered to the room which was convenient. The policy states only beer, wine and champagne, but I think as long as you act right there is no bother by the employees. The only con I will say is that they provide you with two binders with the music codes and it is very difficult to share 2 binders among 40 people. It also difficult to locate songs, since not all songs are posted. Hopefully in the future they will consider posting the codes online so it can be accessed on everyone's individual phone and easier to search. Overall, we had such a great time and will most likely be back in the future! It all depends on the group you're with. It's easy to look for flaws in a place, but if everyone is open to having a good time then this is a great place! It's affordable, spacious and clean. Can't ask for more. read more

Who doesn't love a night full of drunk people shrieking their lungs out? I certainly do. Came here for a birthday party and had a HUGE room. I'm so used to those tiny private rooms for karaoke in NYC that I was super surprised. HUGE perks: BYOB on drinks AND food! We were only about 10 in this room, that easily fit 15-20. There were two screens and two mics to get the party started. The best part of authentic karaoke places to me are the insane Asian videos; well let's just say this place certainly does not disappoint! I couldn't focus on my Mariah Carey solo because the leading lady in the video got her finger chopped off! The music selection was a bit scarce. Not a lot of old school music, I was looking for Jay Z, Destiny's child, TLC, and not much there. It was mostly newer singles, and definitely NO spanish music - in case that's your thing. The ambiance is very 1992, fake flowers and ugly wall paint, but considering it's in a strip mall, it makes sense. Overall, as in most karaoke spots, it's who you go with that makes the night fun. So choose your friends wisely and for a few dollars (cheap prices,) you get to make endless embarassing instagram memories. read more

There was definitely something wrong with our mics since we kept on getting 00 score, but who cares lol. And we weren't given the "mic caps" to cover the mics from accidental spits but again, who cares lol. Located on the 2nd floor of a strip mall with its own parking lot, so tparking isn't an issue. Volume Up is a solid choice for karaoke in the Edgewater area. Located right off river road, this establishment provides a very nice selection of Asian (mainly Korean) songs but also has a vast selection of American songs. They have a variety of rooms depending on the size of your group. The larger your group, the better rate you will get for your room. With parties of 9 and higher, it is $5/hour a person. With smaller parties, it is ranges from $30 to $40 an hour for the entire group (will range from $5 to $10 an hour per person). This place sells a limited amount of regular drinks but what a plus to coming here is that Volume Up allows you to bring all the drinks and food as you wish. There are many fast food and regular restaurants along river road, along with liquor stores to give people that "liquid courage" to sing some songs! Volume Up also stays open till very late, so you can sing to your heart's desire. One note though is that if there is heavy rain, River Road nearby will be flooded, and some of the parking lot too. So if anything, you just have to keep singing until the rain diminishes so you can pay and escape! read more

Volume up is always the best time! I have had 4 events here over the last few years and everyone always leaving having had a blast. They have rooms to accommodate every group no matter how big or small. They also are byob food and drink making it easy to set up for whatever type of gathering you are planning. The staff is pretty hands off but are very helpful if you need them. They have a huge selection of songs and although the videos that play in the background are a little odd they usually make for a good laugh. Each time I come I leave without my voice! Pros: BYOB, reasonably priced, clean and spacious rooms. Cons: 1) They charge for everything. Water, ice, solo cups. So if you do decide to go here, make sure you bring EVERYTHING with you. 2) Their selection for American music is seriously lacking. For example, they didn't have any Hall & Oates. I wish I had taken a picture of their song book so you could see for yourself. 3) Their equipment was very confusing to work. It kept freezing and everything was in Korean. We literally had to use google translate to figure out how to see what was in our song cue. 4) The song books were in alphabetical order based on song title, which is not the best way to search. Normally karaoke places will have their songs listed by artist and by title. The only reason I am giving this place a 3/5 and not lower was because our group of 11 wound up having a really fun time despite the lack of song choices. I've been to a couple of karaoke places, and this is by far my favorite karaoke spot! I'm a regular customer here, and I always recommend my family and friends to this one. If you are looking for an affordable and fun karaoke place in the neighborhood, this is the one! They have private rooms for you to sing your heart out lol I love that you pay beforehand, and there is a timer on the screen that keeps count of your hours rather than you having to keep count of your own hours like other karaoke places! They even let you finish the last song, allowing you to go over the time a bit. There is a wide selection of songs. The rooms are spacious and clean with comfortable couches. It's a party like ambience with disco lights in the rooms, and it's BYOB!! The more people you bring, the cheaper it may be for you because they charge per hour and not the amount of people. I would suggest to reserve a room beforehand because it does get full. Would highly recommend this place specially to nearby residents of Hoboken, JC, & Edgewater! read more

I celebrated my birthday here last Friday with 16 people in a medium size room & we all paid $6 each per hr. To hold the room I made a $110 deposit. 2 days later I got my $100 back on my credit card but the $10 goes towards cleaning etc. The room was very spacious & the couches were in good condition. Its BYOB for wine/beer & you also have the option to bring/order food for delivery. I have been looking for a local Karaoke spot for the longest & was happy when a friend recommended Volume Up to me. We all had so much fun. I would say the only drawbacks were that some common r&b songs they did not have & I also I would have preferred 3 mics versus 2 however we got over it & really enjoyed ourselves. Surprised my best friend by bringing her here for her birthday and she LOVED IT! We had such a blast and the time flew by! The staff member who hosted us was super helpful and patiently explained to us how everything worked. Also it's BYOB which is amazing??? The only factor that's keeping me from a 5 star review ( I'd give 4.5 if possible! ) is the song list is a /little/ bit outdated. And the front desk are very nice If you forget to bring ice...they sell ice on the spot and they will bring it to your room with a big bucket. They have plenty of rooms to accommodate your party. Close to the city and you can bring your own food and drinks (except hard liquors) they have different sizes of private rooms that you can rent depending on your group size. All 25 of my friends and family LOVED it - even the shy, quiet ones. In the bigger room I had for 20-25 people, there were 2 big TV's that clearly displayed the lyrics; the music was nice and loud; and the microphones worked well. Everyone has a blast! Came here to celebrate boyfriend's birthday. Since we had about 15 people the price was $5/hr per person. I think that is a very good deal. I paid for myself and my boyfriend along with the $10 room fee. $54 from 8pm -12am. Their song selection is huge - covering American songs, j-pop, k-pop, c-pop etc. I kinda wish they had a bigger selection of Disney songs. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... Sike it was only three years ago in Edgewater that I held an epic party for all my friends and coworkers to remember. The premise was simple. Bring liquor and sing your heart out. And we did just that. You know it's a party when people are dancing on top of the tables, taking their shirts off, and kiss--ahem--getting friendly with someone else at the party. To top it off a visit from nearby uniforms to check up on the drunkies taking a smoke break outside couldn't make this anymore similar to a Hollywood movie. Where might you ask was this Project X party held? Well at Ding Dong Dang Karaoke of course! But ever since that old place burned down this renovated studio has continued the tradition. Volume Up Karaoke has kept the flame alive (pun intended). For a more than a reasonable rate of $5 per person per hour for a group of 9 or more you can bring your own food and drinks to this karaoke place and party hardy. If you have less than 9 attendees it's $30 per hour for a group up four people, and $40 per hour for a group of five to eight. Compared to how much you get charged in K-Town this place is a bargain. Wait I shouldn't have said that in case they raise the prices so...man this place is super expensive they should make it affordable! (Whew hope they didn't notice) Anyways the rooms are spacious and set-up in the traditional karaoke establishment with seats around and a table in the middle. There are one or two screens depending on which room (bigger rooms have two screens) and the quintessential disco lights to make any amateur singer feel like they are on X-Factor or Idol. My favorite part is always how some people swear they will not sing or say "I don't do karaoke!" but by the end of the night you can't take the damn microphone away from their hands. Ohh the power of alcohol! I've recently made two visits within a short time span and I had a great time for both. Let's just say if I become a famous singer I'm gonna give a shout-out to this humble place for getting me there. Many of my friends and coworkers who I've introduced this place to agree--it's a great alternative to the traditional Jersey entertainment. Located in a small strip mall there is no need to worry about parking and there's an amazing restaurant below the studio and a pizzeria in the same complex. There's also a bunch of other great places to order take-out nearby. So take my word for it. If you want to see a dear friend, boss, relative, whoever sing "Like A Virgin" in whatever key seems to work for that night then this place is the spot. No matter what you will have a blast! Sweet! Volume up, karaoke is a very nice establishment. They are open until 6:00am on Saturdays which is a great late night entertainment. They also allow you to bring in your own beverages as well as food. The place is clean, and well kept. The environment makes you feel like you have been transported in Korea. The prices vary depending on the party. A party of 5 would approximately pay $40 per hour, if you multiply it by 3 it comes up to $120, then divide it by 5 it is $24 per person for 3hrs. Which I believe to be quite reasonable. They also have a stamping system in the back of their business card, like nail salons, for each hour spent you get a stamp after 10 hours you get one hour free. This was my second time at this establishment and I surely recommend it. read more

For a place that calls itself "Volume Up," they sure don't give you a lot of volume. I'm a professional karaoke DJ. Here's my critique of Volume Up; Decide for yourselves. Great rooms, speakers, flat screens, decent mics, etc. In need of major improvements: 1. No ability to control mic volumes. Mics are much louder than music. 2. Music volume is WAY too low. (I hosted a party of 50 people and we had the volume at "100" and for many songs, it was literally a Capella. For the others, it was just low and uninspiring. They don't let you go loud at all, as there's a limiter on your volume. Everything could/should be louder- especially for the amount of speakers in each room. Major issue. 3. No ability to move/switch songs around. You need to either physically delete all the songs before the one you want moved up, or re-enter and hit priority. Just hope you remember to delete the other copy before it plays later. 4. No ability to enter singer names. Not a big deal unless you're doing a party of 15 or more. 5. No song titles as they play. 6. They need to provide a small light for viewing song book in the dark. 7. No ability to control pitch/octave. Many singers like to sing a half step down or up. 8. Be aware that "MV" in song list means music video. Most of the time it's the same. However, unfortunately we stumbled upon a track that literally had a good 2 minutes of dialogue/acting interrupt the song. The singers just stood there, as there was no way to fast forward past it. 9. No "search" ability. This one's a big deal as they just add all new stuff to more sheets in the back so if you don't see what you're looking for in main book, you need to scour 2018, 2019, etc. And you still may not see it. It's very time consuming to have to look through multiple books/choose btwn new songs, last year songs, etc. Case in point: we wanted "All the single ladies" and they apparently don't have it anywhere. However, because we couldn't search their system, we'll never know if we missed it. These are MAJOR basic karaoke requirements that Volume Up doesn't meet at this point in time. Hopefully they will improve their service going forward, as the group I hosted will not be back. read more

CAme to Volume Up Karaoke to celebrate my husband's birthday since he thoroughly enjoys music and embarrassing himself in front of his friends. The price was very reasonable, for about 4 hours we paid $20 a person. I found that to be reasonable considering that places in the city can go for a lot more. Now, here are the important things to know: -It's in a small shopping plaza (gps will take you to the wrong place) -The parking lot is smallish for the number of businesses. -It's a bring your own ..... EVERYTHING! -ALCOHOL, drinks, food, cups, water, napkins, etc. -The rooms are large - perfect for groups. For our evening, I wish I had a better understanding of what we were getting into because I would have brought more snacks and decorated a little bit for my boo.
