So I was taking my coworker out for her going-away lunch and we were stopped at a red light on Manzanita. She looks over at VolksWaffle longingly and says, "damn we never did get to try that place." "Oh hell no," I tell her. "Today is the day!" So we roll up in the mini drive thru next to the bright red booth in the Med 7/Goodwill parking lot and tell the owner that we are beyond excited to finally check this place out. He asks us if we want the skinny on the waffles and proceeds to tell us a brief history on his Belgian family's liege waffles and how they import the goods from back home. Here's the bottom line: unless you have actually been to Belgium (as I have) you have NEVER tasted a waffle this good. I stumbled upon this fire-engine red cart during a slightly chilly Second Saturday Artwalk. I was expecting a hot dog cart, but then I got a whiff of vanilla and frying batter. I had to investigate further! The cart is actually a tidy, fancy, modified VW bus with a waffle-griddling operation built into it. The waffle guy, who I now know from visiting their website is Marc van Mieghem, was especially nice and enthusiastic about cheffing up my first Volkswaffle. These are pretty dense waffles! I needed a bit of "base" to drink on, so the waffle met that need. It was a gooey, sticky affair since I asked for caramel syrup on top, and it was dusted with powdered sugar (which I ended up wearing, to some degree). It was a satisfying streetside treat experience--I snarfed that puppy down rightquick! Only four stars because of the limited options on toppings. It wouldn't be so terrible if they offered whipped cream and/or chocolate sauce in addition to the cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, caramel sauce, and chocolate chips, although I know these fine Belgian folks are waffle purists. read more

I met the owner about 7 years ago and at the time, he had a 1970 Volkswagen Bus that he turned into a little waffle kitchen! I've always told him that these are the best waffles I've ever had. I moved away to a different state five years ago, and I'm currently visiting right now, and I passed by his stand and I freaked out! I didn't know that he had a standalone location! As usual, the waffle is crispy, fresh, sweet, and the best thing I've ever had since I've been on my visit here in Sacramento. My suggestion is always going to be The Most Wanted. If you haven't been here, eat here, and keep coming back! read more

These are the best waffles in Sacramento hands down! If you got a sweet tooth or want to impress your woman on a nice date GO HERE! what are you waiting for? The owner is a good man. He treated me and my girlfriend with respect and care. He made sure we were good and liked the food. They also have nice thick frapps and hot/iced coffee. I am 11 years old and one day we were at Goodwill and we were hungry so we convinced our parents to get us a dessert waffle at Volks Waffle which is in the same parking lot. When we ordered ourselves, the super nice guy working there told us all about the waffles, how they were imported from Belgaum and that they had a special nutella sauce from Milan, Italy. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE and he even gave us a little tasting while making us waffles. THEY WERE DELICIOUS! Apparently they cater too which is cool. I highly advise going there and will be back myself as often as my parents let me :) read more

The Works- Belgian waffle with ice cream, whipped cream, strawberries, and Nutella ($6). I attended a Food Truck Mania just so I could eat this. The waffle was thick with a crispy outside. The ice cream was a rectangular bar that sat atop the waffle. The strawberries were fresh. I think the waffle will be too sweet by itself but with the toppings it was fantastic! read more

I have been enjoying their waffles for over seven years, when they would bring their van to Sierra College for various events. I would look forward to the campus events knowing I would get to eat their waffles. Wow I am not a big fan of waffles or panckes or anything like that. I only tried this place only cause I was feeling like something sweet and figured why not give it a shot. I ordered the belgian waffle with strawberries, powdered sugar,whipped cream with nutella. I have to say the texture and taste of the waffle was absolutely amazing. I was just writing how I never give more than 3 stars on my first try at a new place. But this belgian waffle was so amazing I could have eaten a stack of them. All the other toppings are almost unnecessary as there is enough flavor in the belgian waffle itself. Either way I'd highly recommend trying this place. If you opt for the ice cream option you get big fat slab of vanilla ice cream on your waffle. read more

Wow, I understand with Covid-19 a lot of coffee shops are closed and others are taking the business. I appreciate that, what I do not understand is when I decided to try a new spot, Volkswaffle for my sunday morning treat, I waited 20 minutes in a ONE car line (the one car was at the window). What in the love of Henry would take 20 minutes to make! Needless to say I left. By the time it took me to get back to Manzanita, the car was STILL waiting for whatever was being made. Incredible! Volkswaffle is truly one of Sacramento's hidden gems. The waffles are amazing - crisp vanilla or chocolate, topped with caramel or Nutella, strawberries and a cloud of whipped cream. They're reasonably priced, and it's a wonderful owner, too, named Terry. The stand is small, but bright red and easy to find: drive north on Fair Oaks Blvd. and go straight, past where it becomes Manzanita. A short time later, you'll see the small red Volkswaffle stand on the right. Well worth the stop! You will be coming back over and over. read more

When I ate the first bite, the texture had a sweet crunch, it was asking to a slightly sweet donut texture that carries a crispy sugar crunch at the end, it is delicious enough to be a delectable pastry without the overwhelming sugar spike a pastry would carry towards the end of the bite.. Conversation and delicious in the Belgium waffles that are made from dough recipe that is something I wish I could get my hands on.. I tried.. haha read more

I tried Volkswaffle's at the Saturday Midtown Farmer's Market. The deep red VW mobile set-up was impossible to miss so I *had* to try a waffle. There were several options: The Purist (with powdered sugar and cinnamon), The Most Wanted (with whipped cream, strawberries, powdered sugar, caramel sauce or Nutella) and Chocolate Most Wanted. I was told that the dough is imported from Belgium and par-cooked so after ordering The Purist ($6) and waiting a few short minutes, I was handed a fully-cooked waffle from the waffle iron with lightly dusted powdered sugar (he failed to add cinnamon). It was really sweet and had a crispy exterior but the texture inside was dense and gooey in a slightly undercooked way. While I thought it was good, I prefer a less dense texture. read more

I always pass this place but never got the chance to actually stop by! It's a small with a drive thru and walk up window. We ordered the Belgian chocolate most wanted and the purist. They were around $6-$7 for each waffle. The purist has cinnamon and powdered sugar. I also added cookie butter. It was soooo good! I think next time I will get it without cinnamon because it was a little powdery but still tasty. The works was even better! It came with blueberries and strawberries that blended great with the Nutella and chocolate Belgian waffle!! I can't wait to come back and try more mixes. read more

I love this little gem! I pass by it often when I go to the goodwill in the same parking lot and today I decided to give it a try. I love how cute and unique this place is. In my opinion, small businesses like this one are always 10x better than your big chain like Starbucks. They also care more about you as a customer. I love how hospitable and personal the owner is. There aren't very many friendly folks around anymore so meeting him was a breath of fresh air. His mother is from Belgium so it feels like he definitely brought that inspiration to Sacramento through his waffles and coffee which I love so much! I've always wanted to travel to Europe and explore different cuisines so it's very nice to have a taste of it brought to me in the states. I ordered the caramel frapper, it was incredible and clearly made with care. The prices are amazing, service is perfection and the drinks are delicious! I will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area especially to try one of his delicious famous waffles! I can't wait! :) read more

Jerry's got your back! Me and my girlfriend tried this place for the first time after living in the area for a year and I gotta say, wish we had gone sooner! Not only is he so down to earth, but such a nice guy! He gave our dog a treat while we waited for our order and after he made our waffles ,HE EVEN GAVE US FREE WATER! The waffles we got we're suuuuper good too! I had the chocolate most wanted and my girlfriend got the regular most wanted. I highly recommend trying this place when you have a sweet tooth craving if you haven't yet. The waffles were warm, fluffy and delicious! Make sure to get the works! It was like the sky opened up and shinned a light on a waffle stand with ice cream berries and chocolate on top. Berries are very fresh. The waffles are real no eggos. They do not skimp on the whipped cream. They serve great coffee too. Mocha, chai tea and more. The owner is extremely nice. He even split a waffle into two containers for my kids to share. He offered and gave me a bunch of napkins. This my Sunday morning treat. But only because I am not in the area other days otherwise I would get the coffee more often. If I had to pick a favorite, the chicken tacos take the top spot. The only thing that didn't blow me away was the mac and cheese. If you like your mac extra cheesy, you'll probably love it. I just prefer more noodle to cheese ratio, so it wasn't for me. I didn't get a chance to try the smash burgers since I was way too full, but I watched other people order them and they looked incredible. That alone is enough to bring me back. Still can't believe a food truck out-BBQ'd everything I've had back home. Can't wait to come back and try those burgers.

This is by far the best waffle available in California! My wife and I went this morning and shared something with caramel and strawberries and all sorts of goodness on it no. But this guy explained how they fly their dough in from Belgium and all that stuff like every few days and they keep it frozen at a certain temperature and then they anyways all these details are definitely come out in the favor because it is amazing!
