Wow...where has a concept like this been all of my life?!?! First saw their van at the farmer's market in downtown Sacramento, and then went to their stand alone spot in Carmichael. Their chocolate covered waffle, with a thin slab of ice cream, strawberries, and a Nutella drizzle is likely the result of someone challenging god to make an unheard of dessert, and poof, there it was! I don't usually leave reviews, but here I just couldn't not do it. Incredibly delicious warm waffles with your choice of toppings. We were very lucky to get in when the owner stopped by to put the fresh ingredients in the fridge, otherwise the store would have been closed by then. He told us about the history of these waffles and turned out to be a very nice and hearty man. Anyway, if you're craving something sweet, this place is definitely your choice. I'm not from California and when I stayed there for 2 months this place was my absolute favorite. The people there are amazing and extremely welcoming and I miss it a lot. California wasn't my favorite place so coming home I was happy but I definitely can't stop thinking about VolksWaffle it was so good and I recommend it to anyone in the area. I came to Volkswaffle one morning before work because I end up driving by it almost everyday and I have heard a lot of good things. It's nice and convenient because you can drive up to the window and order from your car, but it's also a little awkward because you can also walk up to the window and order too which is what the people in front of me did. I didn't want to freak them out so I allowed adequate space, but it's just a little different. I had never had a liege waffle before but love watching The Great Food Truck Race which just had the "Waffle Love" food truck that was super popular so I was having a craving. I got the Most Wanted which was a liege waffle topped with strawberries, whipped cream and Nutella drizzle. I don't normally like fruit for breakfast, but it was a perfect combination with the sweet and crunchy waffle. I don't like whipped cream so I took it off, and I couldn't taste the Nutella sauce so I just wish it had a little more. Only compliant. If you're wondering what a "liege waffle" tastes like I would describe it as a donut waffle. Nice and crispy and sweet. Sugar comes out of the waffle when it cooks, so it creates a nice glaze. Way more filling than a regular waffle, and tastes 100x better. The owner was working when I went and was super super nice and personable. He gave me a nice sized sample of their Mocha and it was definitely the BEST mocha I have ever had. Just the right amount of sweetness without being overbearing. AND it has two shots of espresso included which gives a nice buzz. I will definitely be getting this again! I'm already planning my return trip! I hope they're here for a very long time. read more

I stumbled upon this fire-engine red cart during a slightly chilly Second Saturday Artwalk. I was expecting a hot dog cart, but then I got a whiff of vanilla and frying batter. I had to investigate further! The cart is actually a tidy, fancy, modified VW bus with a waffle-griddling operation built into it. The waffle guy, who I now know from visiting their website is Marc van Mieghem, was especially nice and enthusiastic about cheffing up my first Volkswaffle. These are pretty dense waffles! I needed a bit of "base" to drink on, so the waffle met that need. It was a gooey, sticky affair since I asked for caramel syrup on top, and it was dusted with powdered sugar (which I ended up wearing, to some degree). It was a satisfying streetside treat experience--I snarfed that puppy down rightquick! Only four stars because of the limited options on toppings. It wouldn't be so terrible if they offered whipped cream and/or chocolate sauce in addition to the cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, caramel sauce, and chocolate chips, although I know these fine Belgian folks are waffle purists. read more

I met up with the Red Rooster at the Sacto MoFo event. I loved the bright red classic Volkswagen truck. I had the waffle with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a chocolate Klondike bar on top. This place is awesome. Owner was super nice and explained what's special about their authentic Belgian waffles and all the options. I had "The Most Wanted" a vanilla waffle with powdered sugar, strawberries, whipped cream and liquid Nutella on top. My daughter had "The Purist" a vanilla waffle with a dusting of powdered sugar. This review is for the B&M location on Manzanita in Carmichael. I really did not want to write this review, but after so many attempts to try this place I am pretty upset. I have never seen their food truck before. After driving by and seeing this location, it sounded interesting and I Googled them. Their website does not mention this location, only the food truck, so there are no hours posted. I found a news article saying they were open from 6 am to 7 pm. A week later I drive by at 6:30 pm to find them closed and no hours posted. I look at their Facebook page, and on July 8th they posted their hours as 6 am to 5:30 pm M-F and 8 am to 2 pm Sat. Great. So today, Saturday July 18th, I make a special trip out of my way to come at 9:15 am, only to find different hours posted. However, according to the sign, they should have opened at 8:45 am, but they are obviously closed. I really want to try one of these waffles, but they clearly don't want business. read more

Yummy Belgian Waffles! It was actually my first time and I enjoyed it. My friend and I split one waffle and it had strawberries, whip cream, and nutella on it. I was introduced to this traveling waffle truck about 4 years ago. The man who runs it is so so kind! My mom likes them so much that she had them at her wedding when she married my stepdad!
