To top it off I'm also chocolate connoisseur and stepping into the place with a wall and. A half of all kinds of chocolate was heaven. So I did what any normal obsessed chocolate/coffee lover would do and got the mocha with espresso. Again I'm about the overall taste of both coffee and chocolate minus processed sugar. This is amazing. Feels organic and like I'm going to have natural energy without the crash. Highly recommend if looking for some cultural medicine!

An appalling and deeply humiliating experience involving my trained medical service dog…read more My wife and I are visiting Sacramento from San Diego, and we came to Café Xocolatl genuinely excited to explore its selection of Latin American chocolates, treats, and food. As a proud Latino, I make a deliberate effort to support small businesses that celebrate and showcase our culture. We intended to spend approximately $100 on products to enjoy during our visit and take home with us. Instead, we left without purchasing anything because of the rude, hostile, and completely unnecessary way we were treated. I have an eight-year-old Portuguese Water Dog who is fully trained as a medical service dog. He alerts me to potentially serious medical episodes before they occur, which means his presence by my side is not optional, recreational, or a matter of convenience. He is a task-trained service animal protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. When we entered, my dog was calmly standing beside my wife on a leash, exactly as he has been trained to do. He was not barking, wandering, sniffing merchandise, touching products, or behaving disruptively in any way. He was approximately four feet away from the nearest shelf. Despite this, the woman working at the front yelled across the very small shop that we needed to keep him away from the shelf because the products were at the level of his mouth. My wife politely explained that we would be careful and that he was a trained service animal. Rather than responding professionally, the employee gave us a sarcastic, dismissive "ummm, okay," turned away, and then muttered under her breath that we should "probably keep him by the door." The contempt in her tone and the dirty look she gave us were unmistakable. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief. We had entered excited to support this business and were instead made to feel as though my disability, my medical needs, and the service dog who protects my health made us undesirable customers. This was not a misunderstanding involving an uncontrolled or disruptive animal. My dog was quiet, leashed, supervised, and nowhere near the merchandise. The employee's behavior was not a reasonable request delivered respectfully. It was condescending, antagonistic, and profoundly lacking in basic compassion or professionalism. As we left, my wife explained that he was a legitimate service dog, that he is legally permitted to remain with me, and that muttering disparaging comments about customers while they can clearly hear them is extraordinarily rude and in terrible taste. At no point did the employee apologize, attempt to clarify her concern respectfully, or make any effort to repair the situation. Living with a medical condition is already difficult enough without being publicly singled out, spoken down to, and made to feel unwelcome because I require a trained service animal. No customer should have to disclose or defend their medical needs merely to browse a café without being treated like a nuisance. I cannot recommend this establishment after the humiliating and alienating treatment we received. A business that serves the public, particularly one presenting itself as a welcoming place to experience Latin American culture, should understand both basic customer service and the rights of people with disabilities. Until its staff receives serious training on service animals, disability access, and respectful communication, I would strongly encourage other patrons, especially those who rely on service animals, to spend their money somewhere they will be treated with dignity. We arrived prepared to enthusiastically support this small business. We left feeling degraded and unwelcome. No chocolate, coffee, or cultural experience is worth being treated as though your health condition makes you an inconvenience.

There is an option for anyone looking to buy a little treat varying from semi-sweet to decadent. They even had dog treats near the front! What caught our eye was buy 3 candied apples get 1 FREE. WE WERE SOLD! Soooo many options caused me to be indecisive. I was also trying to find something suitable for my chocoholic husband too. I ultimately chose the Cookies & Cream apple and Enrobed S'more. Our 3 other apples were the M&M ones which is my friend's favorite. These items were solid choices! I would love to come back here but not anytime soon. The customer service we received came off as if we were inconveniencing the employee. Yes, we heard her asking us patiently if there was anything she could get us but the body language was showing different. More so annoyed. It's not like we arrived before closing time. Maybe we interrupted their prep? Not sure, doors were opened so we came in. Another chocolate shop can have our business.

Summary: the drinks are unique, delicious, and the ingredients are freshly prepped for each drink…read more The black sesame hojicha, mango sticky rice matcha, and pistachio latte are stand outs. The people are friendly and knowledgeable if you have questions. It's family owned. Finding it is annoying because it's in a larger corporate building and shares the space with the sandwich spot. There's plenty of parking around the area, but only a few spots right in front of the entrance. Full review: Been coming here for a little over a year. Tried almost all of their drinks, cookies, and macrons, including several of their rotating specials. I've also had their savory croffle and it was delicious. This place is BY FAR the best matcha/coffee shop I've ever had. If you are a Dutch bros or Starbucks person, you may not love it. This place is not about dumping sugar into all their drinks. Flavor comes first, sweetner is secondary. Food/Drink: I'm not the coffee drinker, my partner is, and he rates his favorite as follows: 1. Pistachio Latte 2. Fish Sauce (it has a strong caramel flavor with a little saltiness, no fish flavor) 3. Cookie Butter 4. Black Sesame He's tried every coffee on the permanent menu and these are his favorites. Now for the Matcha/Teas. I can't pick a favorite, because they're all perfect. Not too sweet, and whatever the flavor, it stands out! For example, when they had a pistachio matcha, I watched them crush pistachios for my drink specifically. The flavor was so strong and they clearly know what they're doing picking these flavor combos, because it was excellent. I also love the banana matcha, the banana pudding matcha, the mango matcha, and the double matcha. But the star is the mango sticky rice matcha. I've only had it twice because it's a WHOLE MEAL in a drink. It's delicious and unique and the flavors are outstanding. It actually has all the ingredients of mango sticky rice, including cooked rice. It's amazing!! My personal favorite drink, that I've got the last 10 times I've visited is the black sesame hojicha. It is seriously the best drink I've ever had. Right now, I think they only have the double black sesame on their menu, but I've asked for this every time since it was on their specials menu and they still make it. The cookies and macrons and AMAZING. The s'mores cookie is my absolute fave and the damn crème brûlée macron is in my top 10 desserts of all time. The savory croffle is also a surprisingly good breakfast choice. I honestly thought there is no way they could be doing all of this well, but they don't put anything on the menu that isn't delicious and well made. Service: We've been here so many times that we've been lucky enough to talk to both the husband and wife that own the place. They are so damn creative and come up with the flavors for not only the drinks, but the pastries. They are both very nice. There are a few people working the registers every time we visit and they are helpful if you have questions and they're quick to get these drinks out even though they basically prep the ingredients fresh for each drink. Location/parking: This place is a pain to find. It is across the parking lot from the bank entrance, sharing a space with a sandwich spot. There are a few parking spaces in front of the store, but the parking on the main street is free. There is a lot of seating inside and large tables for big groups. There are even plug in areas at the bar like seating along the windows. Unfortunately, they aren't open on Sundays or it would be the perfect study spot.
