I stopped by for the 2025 Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge. It's such a cute bakery and they had a ton of desserts! It was so hard not to get one of everything! For the challenge, I got the Orange Chocolate Mousse Cake Cup and the Tater Toffee Cookie. I also couldn't resist a Halloween jack-o'-lantern Vanilla Cupcake and a Jack Skellington sugar cookie. Everything was absolutely scrumptious, and cute! The service was also super friendly! (instagram: jax.vegan.eats)

I'm not the biggest "sweets" person, but any time my wife asks if I want anything from The Caring Kitchen, it's an immediate yes! Anything snickerdoodle is my weakness. Also the cookie dough sandwiches are an instant bad day turned into an amazing day! Would gladly pay $20 for one of these cookies knowing how they are made and what goes into them. Anyone complaining about the price of these treats has clearly no idea what they're talking about and are just broke and bitter. On top of that, we love supporting local small businesses, and this is one of the best!

    It's so cute inside!

The Caring Kitchen is so awesome! I went for my first time in November, and I was so excited at how cute it is inside. I got a brownie and another chocolate item that I can't remember (because chocolate is superior in every way). Both were super yummy and I usually don't even like gluten-free baked goods. I'm not usually in that area of town, but I will definitely be going back here. The peeps who work there are super nice too.

I came for the cookies and I was not disappointed in the selection! I got a snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, & and Oreo stuffed cookie. There was only one employee working the front. Inside is very small and got cramped fast since there was a large line waiting for the pastries. The cookies are all uniform in size and all very moist. They did have a grainy texture after biting into them. Personally did not enjoy them because of that texture & couldn't finish them. I inquired about lemon pastries & they said the baker posts the menu online for the day so plan accordingly.

Happiness! That's what's in the photo. It's called the Eat Your Feelings cup. Once I eat it, I feel happy.

A Rare Gem for Those with Food Allergies, Intolerances, or Simply a Desire for Thoughtful Treats Unless you've personally faced food allergies or intolerances, it's hard to understand the daily struggle of finding something as simple as a baked treat that's both safe and delicious. That's why The Caring Kitchen is such a gift. Even if you can't relate firsthand, I believe we can all choose to be empathetic--and this bakery absolutely does. While I don't have Celiac disease myself, my father did. He loved baked goods but had to avoid them to prevent severe symptoms. I have a gluten intolerance, and I experience inflammatory responses when I consume gluten-based foods. On top of that, I've dealt with a digestive disorder since 1996 that limits my ability to process most animal products (except egg whites and some fish), and I can't tolerate high-fiber or starchy foods like apples, bananas, tortillas, legumes, or even watermelon. In 2020, after years of carefully resetting my gut health, I transitioned to a balanced carb-to-protein lifestyle. The results were life-changing: 40+ pounds lost, a major drop in cholesterol and triglycerides (from heart-attack-risk to healthy), and no more pain in my knees or joints. Enter The Caring Kitchen. This bakery understands--they don't just offer gluten-free and vegan options; they also cater to the top 9 food allergens, and do it with compassion and care. I've never experienced inflammation or digestive issues from their products. That's huge. Now, for the folks who critique the sugar content: Let's be honest--sweet treats aren't required in any diet. But accessible, allergen-conscious, less-inflammatory treats absolutely have a place in a balanced lifestyle. I visit once a month, stock up on cookies, cupcakes, and bars, cut them into small servings, freeze them, and enjoy them mindfully throughout the month. They freeze and thaw beautifully. I get the flavor, the satisfaction, and none of the regret. To the team at The Caring Kitchen: Thank you. Thank you for caring about your customers. Thank you for tirelessly researching, experimenting, and creating with people like me in mind. Your efforts may go unrecognized by some--but for many of us, they are life-changing. Your bakery is a true gem. One that brightens lives, one thoughtful bite at a time.

I'm 100% on board. For those who are celiac like myself, it's very difficult to find reasonable consistency with baked goods. From that broader perspective, this spot specifically cracked the code. First visit and I'll say while service is okay, ambiance is great, menu options are diverse, and quality of items is high. About the food: I had what was essentially ham and cheese wrapped in a croissant. For years, I've been trying to find a gluten-free croissant as close to the common version as possible - soft, light, flaky, buttery, and everything else characteristically pertinent. Finally done right! Also had the oatmeal cream pie, almond croissant cookie, and brownie - each soft and rich in flavor. Will absolutely be back.

Came here for the keto options and sad to say there wasn't much to choose from however these keto donuts did not disappoint! I loved that it was cool in temperature, dense and moist. I really enjoyed it. I will def be back if we're in the area to try more!

I love both locations! They are amazing at making vegan and gluten-free treats! The service is outstanding , and I love the ambiance of Star Wars and that it's family owned. Wonderful... Thank YOU!

I've been here too many times to count and the excitement I feel walking in the store is always unmatched!! As someone with an anaphylactic egg and dairy allergy it's practically impossible to find sweets ... a these aren't just sweet treats.. they are AMAZING!!! I've never tried something I didn't like here! I have dreams about this place 100/10!! Everyone should try this gem of a bakery, allergies or not! The quality is top tier always! Service is always great + fast! Did I mention the bakery is PINK inside.. what's not to like?? Ambience is 10/10!

Goodies!!!! I called the strawberry shortcake all mine!

I've had this bakery saved on my to check out list for months now and today was the day! I'm so glad we decided to go. There weren't baked goods left, but enough to order one of each so we could test and taste them. The pizza scone is delicious! The gluten free donut is also very good. So moist and not overly sweet. I love the bits of carrots and nuts inside. Perfect. We will be trying the tiramasu after dinner. My bf loved the chocolate chip cookie sandwich with cookie dough in the center. The bakery is tucked away to the right of the gas station, cute, quaint bakery. We arrived two hours before closing. I also purchased a homemade soap that I'm so excited to try! Definitely will be coming back for more. Absolutely delicious .

This bakery is my version of heaven on earth. Everything I've tried from here has been delightful, delicious, unique, flavorful, and satisfying my cravings every time! I'm in love with this place! I am in love with their cookie sandwiches, brownies, cupcakes, cake pops, cookie dough anything, caramel anything, and oh my goodness the coffee cake with the most perfect streusel on top! Everything is made from scratch. 100% Vegan and Gluten Free facility. There is something for everyone! I look forward to her menus every week posted on her Instagram and I am always curious to try something new! Furthermore, the service is kind and knowledgeable about everything on the menu, making this an enjoyable experience every time.

Vegan, gluten free bakery boutique. SUPPORT FAMILY OWNED LOCAL BUSINESSES!!! The best of both worlds. Vegan and gluten friendly. Quality of both items and service. They have sweets and breads. Ordered the grasshopper brownie, keto chocolate peanut butter bar, key lime cookie. None was a disappointment; it hit my sweet tooth. They have cashless payment, apple and cash app. If using cash app they will waive the $1 fee. Parking in the plaza.

Cookie sandwich, lemon crinkle, dole whip cookies, funfetti cookie, cake pops, sourdough baguette (Gluten Off Bakery supplied)
    Stephanie P.

I always have to get something with frosting because the frosting is out of the world despite being gluten free and vegan. The cookie and cake textures are great without being super crumbly. Also, the owner is super responsive on social media with questions and requests- thank you, Delaney for all that you do! Pro tip: follow on Instagram/Facebook for updated menus and surprise items!

Ask the Community - The Caring Kitchen

Do you make dairy 🥛-free birthday cakes? My son is allergic to cow's milk. Thank you.

Hi! Unfortunately we don’t make birthday cakes at this time. We likely won’t be taking cake orders again until we find a space with a bigger kitchen.

What kind of oils are used?

Depends on the recipe. We use a vegan butter that contains canola oil and olive oil. Some recipes use grapeseed oil. Some use coconut oil. So it varies.

Honestly, we haven't found anything that comes close. I order the same thing every single time: the 7-ounce steak and eggs, medium rare, and I swap the toast for a pancake with bananas baked inside. I can't overstate how good this meal is. The steak is always cooked just right, the eggs are perfect, and that banana pancake takes it to another level. It's one of those dishes you start craving before you even walk in the door. We've even gone there for "breakfast dinner" because sometimes you just need it. Yes, it's more expensive than it was many years ago when we first started going. It's no longer the ultra-affordable spot it once was. But we also know they treat and pay their employees well. We've had family members work there while attending college, and that matters to us. Supporting a business that takes care of its people makes the higher price easier to accept. Beyond the food, it's just a cozy place. If you can grab a booth, even better. There's something comfortable and familiar about it that keeps us coming back. We're lucky to have two locations accessible to us. We prefer the one off Sunrise since it's the first one we ever visited and it has more parking, but the Madison location is just as solid. Until something better and more affordable comes along, Brookfields will remain our favorite. And honestly, it's going to be hard to beat.

I'm staying at a nearby hotel for a trade show I'm involved in and didn't feel like traveling far and everything else was fast food and this was a sitdown place so that's why I decided to go there despite the fact I knew it was not high end. The food was priced well there was lots of people and so I knew everything was relatively fresh, but I just had to laugh when my Dish arrived. I settled on the flank steak and shrimp combo platter no mashed potatoes. I opted for veg instead and no cornbread or buns since I'm trying to be keto. I also got a glass of wine, which was happy hour prices and very reasonable when my Dish arrived. It was hilarious instead of a steak. It looked like a cow penis! It tasted fine although it was a little past the "medium" I had requested. They delivered it with a bottle of A1 sauce without me requesting it. that further indicating this is a very basic basic restaurant since at fine dining establishments with steak they are offended if you order A1 sauce! I happen to like A1 sauce even with nice steaks and so I just had to chuckle, but I did like my A1 sauce! The shape was just hilarious. I wish it would've just been round or square or flat or something anything but a penis shape!

I ordered the Pho Tai, but the meat arrived pre-cooked, shredded, and low grade. Even worse, the rice noodles came in a solid, blocky cube that I had to manually pry apart. The Banh Mi was equally poor--the bread was incredibly hard/stale, and the meat was sliced far too thick with large chunks of unchewable fat. The service was non-existent. I had to specifically ask for basics like chopsticks and sauces just to begin my meal. I got a single paper napkin. The staff seemed entirely uninterested. I thanked my server on three separate occasions and never once received a "you're welcome" or even a nod. No one ever checked on the table during the meal to see if I needed anything. After finishing, I waited over 10 minutes for a check that never arrived. I eventually had to walk up to the counter just to pay so I could leave. This was easily the worst sushi I have ever been served…read more I previously worked as a sushi restaurant supervisor and have eaten sushi extensively, including in Tokyo, so I don't say this lightly. I visited on a weekend afternoon and was the only customer in the restaurant, with just one chef and one server present. I ordered a torched roll. I could hear the torch being applied for several seconds, and when the plate arrived the rice was literally blackened and crunchy from being burned. The albacore on top was stiff and overcooked, the sauce was excessive, and the shrimp tempura inside was soggy. Every component was mishandled -- from ingredient freshness to execution -- and after two bites I felt sick and could not continue eating it. I considered asking for a replacement, but the chef left the restaurant immediately after serving the dish. The server was polite and understanding when I explained I couldn't eat the food, and I left without ordering anything else. I have given this restaurant multiple chances and this was the final one. With several other sushi restaurants nearby, I strongly recommend choosing elsewhere.
