Yesterday, JoJo's Hawaiian Fried Chicken food truck made a visit to my workplace, and I couldn't resist trying their offerings. I ordered the Hawaiian Fried Chicken Chunks, along with a side of Mac Salad and Cole Slaw. The chicken chunks were perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, with a delightful Hawaiian-inspired marinade that gave them a tropical kick. The Mac Salad was creamy, with just the right amount of tang, and had a satisfying, homemade feel. The Cole Slaw was crisp and refreshing, though it was a bit on the plain side compared to the other dishes. What really stood out was the generous portion size--it's hard to believe such a hearty feast is only $19.00. I was so pleased with the amount of food; I enjoyed half yesterday and saved the rest for today, and both times I left feeling fully satisfied. While at Kaiser Morse, we got hungry for some lunch. The cafeteria is closed on the weekends and we noticed this lone food truck out front of the hospital. Jojo's Hawaiian Fried Chicken has a small menu that packs a punch! We ordered the Fried Chicken Chucks with Mac Salad and Rice, Jojo's Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Kids Chicken Chunks and Fries. Everything was really good - I loved the chicken and the sweet and spicy sauces that came on the side. The Mac Salad wasn't overly sweet or wet and their Fried Rice was made of brown rice with a ton of great spices! My family and I were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was - we took a risk because it was really the only option for food without having to leave the hospital. I can't comment on the ambiance since it was a food truck, but the service was friendly and the food came out hot and quick! I would definitely check them out again if I saw their truck around town! We accidentally got both the sweet and spicy sauces (it usually only comes with one), but honestly, I think two are needed to balance out the amount of meat. I loved the sweet one, and my husband preferred the spicy, so it worked out perfectly. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw, it was a bit too peppery for my taste. Been hearing about this food truck and they finally showed up for my neighborhood's food truck Tuesdays! I ordered the #1 for my husband which was the Fried Chicken Chunks w/ Mac Salad and Rice, and I got the #3 for me which was the Fried Chicken Rice Bowl w/ Mac Salad and Cole Slaw. Coming from a food truck, the food came out fairly quick and the menu had a decent amount of choices. The portion sizes were pretty decent especially with how much chicken chunks they put for my husband's order so definitely order the #1 if you got space in your stomach! Fried chicken is one of those comfort foods that many of us (including myself) get excited about. And after keeping this place on my radar, I finally had the chance of trying their food out. This was during the evening of Saturday 7/2/2022 where I tracked them down (on their website, https://jojoshawaiianfriedchicken.square.site at the site near La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael for a 4th of July get-together. This particular family-owned and operated business runs exclusively through their truck so they are always going to different sites almost on a regular basis throughout the greater Sacramento area. This includes the city of Sacramento but also outlying areas such as Roseville, Elk Grove, Folsom, Natomas, Carmichael, and even places such as Lincoln and Clarksburg. Their truck itself lists their business name which includes their phone number and ways that you can find them on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). Finally, the menu is easy to read with full color pictures of select food items. Their food truck business has been in operation dating back to 2018. Since I had waited several years to try their chicken out, I was quite excited to compare this place to other mobile fried chicken restaurants. Since I was on the hungrier side, I went with their "Fried Chicken Rice Bowl" (priced at $15 during my visit in July 2022). This included their crispy tender Hawaiian fried chicken (drizzled with sweet sauce over it) and on top of a bed of their famous island-inspired rice. This entrée was served with homemade macaroni salad and coleslaw. The wait was literally less than a minute as the ladies working in the truck got my meal ready in the blink of an eye. After walking to the park area of the community center, I opened up the recyclable package and was ready to indulge! The chicken itself was absolutely was on point and had a unique taste that distinguished it from other fried chicken places I've eaten at. The crunch, batter, texture, and flavor with the sweet sauce put this chicken in a class all itself. However, the rice was just average for me as it didn't have that moist taste to it. I did however enjoy the coleslaw as well as the macaroni salad as both of these were above average. I will say that the service here was top notch. The two ladies that I interacted were in such a great mood and had a lot of positive vibes going on. After breaking down everything associated with "Jojo's Hawaiian Fried Chicken", I am settling on giving them a four-star rating. Food is above average, customer service is excellent, and prices are just average since they do run a little higher than similar trucks I've been to. Food in the Hood - WestPark Wednesday [Roseville] We had a chance to try Jojo's Hawaiian fried chicken when they came to Roseville. Hmm, they claimed to be the best Hawaiian fried chicken in Sacramento... well, they came a close second to my favorite fried chicken spot which I won't mention. We chose two of the Fried Chicken Rice Bowls, one each of the sweet and the spicy sauce ($14/ea). There were 4 optional sides: Hawaiian macaroni salad, coleslaw, rice or fries. For both plates we got the coleslaw and mac salad. The chicken was savory and tender laid on top of a bed of island style fried rice. The portions were generous. This is a traveling food truck that I first encountered in Davis! Not only did the man in the truck have true Hawaiian spirit (super friendly and approachable) but you can tell he put a lot of thought into these dishes! 10/10 I got the fried chicken chunks rice bowl and oh my gosh was it delicious! Had high expectations based on the 4 star rating, but was very disappointed. Pros: - The flavor of the fried chicken nuggets was not bad. The spicy sauce was quite good. Cons: - The chicken itself is chunks of thigh meat, not breast. That would be OK if the meat was well-trimmed, but I had a couple of bites of blobby chicken fat. Gross. - I ordered the chicken sandwich only to find it was just 3 or 4 of the nuggets on a bun. I was expecting an actual chicken filet or thigh. I had the fried chicken (not overly greasy and still nicely crunchy after a 10 min journey home) with both sweet and spicy sauces. Super cute they came on the side as sauce should but in their own reusable container so you won't have a spill or accident carrying them. I also had their rice and mac salad. The sides were good however the Mac salad was a bit too peppery but once you're past the pepper flavor the Mac salad was yummy and the coleslaw I wasn't really a fan of. I like the idea of pineapple coleslaw but I feel like there was something missing in the flavor. All around though I would go back, friendly staff, quick about the ordering process.
