What makes this place special to me (besides the fact I found my childrens dentist right next store - amazing!), is the friendly staff and great service. Every donut store has it's own personality and way they make the donuts, and I am delighted with Howard's Donuts. The donuts are great and the people greater. Our family has sleuthed donut shops from sea ro shining sea, and only today at 5:30am did our son happen upon Howard's Donuts. (On his way to the gym for a workout too:). Doughnuts are the best around the area. Fresh and reasonably priced. I usually buy in Modesto but now in this area I go here.

Family run and always friendly! Best selection in the Gold River / Rancho Cordova Cordova area. More family friendly location than other donut shops nearby. Location is super clean (small tables and seating appropriate for snacking). It was a small shop , wanted to try one donut but I only had card on me. The attendant informed me of the $5 card minimum, so I just left sadly without a donut. They shouldn't have a minimum purchase of $5 for card like other small donut shops in the area, especially that nowadays almost everything is card and tap to pay. They should make it known online that there is a minimum purchase amount especially if they are offering card payments. read more

Fluffy, sugary, delightful donuts! Came here on a Sunday morning around 10am and was pleasantly surprised at both the stock of selections as well as the price. But the real clincher was the taste once I got home. This little donut shop is awesome. After moving back here from Washington we had to find a good donut shop. There are no Legendary Donuts here so the quest was on. Howard's is by far yummy in my tummy. Personally, I love the huge apple fritters. My husband enjoys the multiple jelly fills (raspberry, cherry, blueberry and lemon) but his favorite filled donut is the bear claw filled with apple filling. You can get them glazed or crumb coated. The variety here is awesome. They do alot of the old school techniques dipping in coconut, peanuts, crumb coating, etc. There are some non traditional items here as well and the croissants are huge. I'll take more pictures later depending on the crowds. They are covid prepared. Very friendly staff and the coffee is great too. Get here early or call to set something aside. read more

The donuts were delicious but the carrot walnut muffin and peanut butter cookies were the absolute star of our purchase. The donuts were super tasty, fluffy, and did not taste deep fried like a lot of donuts we've had, which we liked. The peanut butter cookies were amazing. Perfectly done on the outside with a little crispness but nice and soft on the inside. And then of course, the carrot walnut muffin. This is probably the best muffin I've ever had from a donut shop. Great tasting coffee (if I had the chance, I'd have their red-eye Americano aka shot of espresso in coffee every morning ) and really fresh-fluffy donuts. I came in for a dozen donuts on a Thursday morning for work (they were gone before I could sneak a piece for myself-- that good). I left with that, the crumb covered apple bear claw and the Americano. The crumb apple bear claw was seriously good. It was absolutely stuffed with apple filling and a blob of cinnamon without losing any fluffiness. Fun fact: the one bear claw felt heavier than the entire box of a dozen donuts. I especially love that the outside has a unique layer holding the crumbs in place that flakes off when you bite into it. A little messy but oh so good. I went back another day for the crumb donut (and a dozen donut holes just to confirm how good the donuts were) and the crumb donut had a similar layer over the donut. For taste and texture, the crumb donut and apple bear claw is quite addicting. It is a fairly popular local shop-- a constant stream of people was coming in that first morning. Customer service is so hospitable, well-organized, hardworking, and really quick at fixing orders. This is an epic place for great donuts at a good price. Highly encourage anyone to try it yourself. read more

We've been coming to Howard's for 28 years since our son's little league years. They've always been the best local donut shop until now. I stopped by yesterday for my cinnamon roll, old fashioned iced donut for my husband and a dozen donut holes to share with my daughter. Sadly, the donut holes were rubbery, the cinnamon roll had too little cinnamon to call it a cinnamon roll and the old fashioned was meh. How disappointing!?! We debated taking them back but it wasn't worth the effort. We wonder has there been a change in bakers, ownership, recipes? I was shopping at a store nearby and saw a donut shop and decided to pop in. Ot was probably about 10 am on a Saturday. The display case was full of yummy donuts and pastries. Its very clean and the cashier/server was extremely friendly. I think this might be a mom and pop type place. Anyway I was helped right away and from the looks of it they get pretty busy. The apple fritters are huge but I opted out of getting one because I was about to get on the road to drive home. (Next time) anyway I got a plain old fashioned and a croissant type pastry filled with cream cheese and strawberry. Both were really good. The pastry was actually filled too, not like some places.
