This company does not understand customer service. The monitoring cost is contracted and not affordable. I paid one price for a year and without notice the bill increased. Trying to renegotiate a contract is impossible. Every customer service representative is a manager so there is no ability to elevate an issue. Do not sign a contract. This company is predatory. Giving them one star is a gift. read more

Below is an email I sent to the company today. Terrible service, I absolutely do not recommend this company. "I'm incredibly frustrated and disappointed with your company. On January 16th, one of sensors fell off of my window when I wasn't home which set off the alarm. I was never called nor were the police called. I'm a single mother so I'm very busy and I wasn't able to call about the issue until about 2 weeks later. At that time I was told that they couldn't see where the alarm had gone off (I took a screenshot of when the alarm went off) and to call back during the week to speak to someone from the loyalty program. In speaking to my friends and family, all of which have ADT, they pay almost exactly half of what I'm paying with Vivint and their alarm company actually works and does what it's supposed to do. Why am I paying for a service that does not even work? Why am I paying TWICE as much for a service that doesn't even work? I just called customer service again today and they offered to trouble shoot. My panel was restarted remotely then I was asked to unscrew the panel and remove a wire. The wire was not coming out despite several attempts. The rep told me that they could send out an agent at the cost of $50. Why am I being charged additional fees when there is clearly some sort of issue with YOUR equipment?? She said that the fee couldn't be waived but not to worry about paying up front because it would be added to the next billing cycle. Thanks.....that makes no difference at all. I spent 50 minutes of my life on the phone with this rep and absolutely nothing was resolved. On top of that I can't even switch companies to one that actually provides a service because after being in this contract for almost 2 years, I still have 19 months left. I will be writing to the Better Business Bureau and writing several reviews. I'm paying fees to a company that doesn't even provide a service. Feel free to contact me. " read more

This is the WORST service I have ever received from an alarm company. The system is constantly going offline and the latest is that it has not worked for a month and they can't get a technician over for another 2 weeks. On top of that if you want to cancel for lack of service or because they are not fulfilling their part of the co tract, they expect you to pay for the remaining g of the contract ...4 years It's a total scam read more

If you are using Vivint as a security for a rental property, I highly do NOT recommend. I have had Vivint since May of 2022, and at least twice a month, the system fails. Specifically, the code will stop working and rental guests will not be able to access the property. This means that regularly, guests will communicate that they are locked out of the home. If you are prepared to constantly have to respond to this at all times of day, then Vivint may not disappoint you, but if you are looking for a reliable security system that does its job, then look elsewhere. Also, the video feed will regularly stop streaming and you will not be able to see the cameras from a mobile device. Lastly, the security panel inside the home regularly disconnects from the wifi (Vivint will say this is a wifi router issue, but it is not, as the wifi works just fine for all other devices in the home and the wifi company ran tests to ensure the wifi was operating at the appropriate capacity and it is - this is just a tactic by Vivint representatives to evade responsibility for poor quality in services). Vivint is responsive in that they will send someone out to the home within the week, but the issue is never fixed. They have replaced my panel, rebooted the system, replaced the locks - nothing works, which means that the issues is with the quality of the system itself. Vivint, if the system were to fail and cause a breach of safety for the residents, you are looking at a lawsuit, particularly in my case where I have such a length history of communication with you regarding these unresolved issues. If you're looking for home security, try ADT. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

If this company was worthy of ZERO stars that's where they would be. Worst customer service EVER! Representatives are incompetent and VERY rude, the supervisors aren't any better. Save your time and money and go else where. HORRIBLE COMPANY! Stay far far away! read more

This has been horrible experience. We have had several incidences occur at our front door and in the back of the house, and none of our cameras pick anything up. We have to look at our neighbors cameras to see the activity going on outside of our own home. We are not being assisted or are able to get out of the several year contract. I was the one who wanted Vivint and thought the cost would be worth it and I deeply regret my decision. This is now impacting our life because we have incident's where we need footage and simply don't have it. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They will bill you forever no matter how many cancelletion letters you send them. I have sent them via letter, fax, email and months will go by and no charges then randomly they will start charging me again and claim they never received cancellation. I really would not give Vivint one star, but, there was no other options. Vivint has to be the worst of all professional businesses I have ever encounter. Willing I excepted Vivint's service for installation of produtcs: Home Security and Solar. Like most things we purchase, everything is gravy, in the beginning. Now I'm deeply into service and usage and have encountered a problem with Home Security. My sensor in basement has been going off randomly everytime I warm my house away My initial calls to Vivint became self service with Vivint on the phone giving me step by step instructions. Unfortunately for me, with no satisfaction of a fix. After multiple failures, by me, to solve my problem I asked Vivint to send out a service technician they never did and "flatly stated that don't provide service tech's for sensors, even after I told them I was a senior and could not do the work. Vivint went on to ask me if I had friends or family that would help? No, was my response. send me a tech. Vivint refused and clearly repeated that they dont send tech's for sensors. I expressed my disbelief and reminded Vivint that they have no problem with taking my monthly payments. I also expressed that I would pay for the service visit, but, Vivint still refused. I SAY THIS TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT USING VIVINT OR ACQUIRING THEIR SERVICE...DONT!!THEY ARE THE WORST. With solar panels you will only see a Tech when Vivint has lost "usage" detection and he or she goes straight to your roof with no explanation. Use this review as you evaluating providers and then taken Vivint out of your selection pool. DONT USE VIVINT!!! read more

Potential Customer, Do not waste your time or money with this company unless you have a lot of money and time to waste. Vivint screwed up my system and I continue to get false alarms although they promised to fix the issue a month ago. After the most recent cancellation I called and asked why the technician did not show up and I was told that he cancelled to go to another appointment across town and it would take too long for him to come to my house. How is that an acceptable explanation for canceling my appointment? They suggested that I take off additional time from work that day (I had already missed three hours of work waiting on the technician) so that they could try to send someone out. I informed them that I could not miss anymore work. Then they repeatedly suggested that I allow them to come fix the problem later that week after I told them numerous times I would be out of town. They sent someone anyway and of course I was not home because as I mentioned to them, I was out of town. Instead of trying to fix the problem or offer me a refund they gave me the phone number to use in order to cancel my service. This company has a history of providing poor service to my area which consists of mostly minorities. If they do not wish to do business with us then they should not setup our accounts and take our money. I am extremely disappointed with this company and the way I have been treated. read more

I get a call from a rep after I submitted my info on their website last night. He starts posing questions about whether or not I would qualify to apply and I respond that I'm not sure whether I want the service or not because I haven't received any particulars about the product that I would receive and the monthly costs. He responds well lets run your credit first because I don't want to spend 20 minutes offering you our services that you don't even qualify for. I responded that an inquiry on my credit report for a service that I do not want is worth more than 20 minutes of his time. He argued that it was not and that he could tell me that it would be more than $40/month. I differed in opinion, adding that since when did "greater than" become an acceptable quote. Needless to say, Vivint is out of the running! And with sales reps like that, I wish you lots and lots of luck! read more

The truth of the matter is that they do not monitor very well. My home was broken into and they did not a call to the police or even me for that matter. If you do decide to go with this company the bells and whistles are amazing, just don't have a bugler break-in during the "grace" period or cut the wires to the system because they will do NOTHING and will not compensate for your loss. read more

You see the average rating, it's a true sign to stay far away from this company. This is the second time I've been in contract with this company and was mislead by the sales rep. The sales rep said I would get free batteries for my equipment and that I was not bound by any contract except for the cost of the equipment. After moving to a location where I did not require a security system the company says I cannot disconnect the system without paying off the loan for the equipment in full!! This is not what the sales rep told me. Essentially Im tied to a 52$ monthly service fee, without the service until the equipment is paid off. I don't get it, Vivint sends all the college kids from Utah here to push their product on people by misleading with contract language and false incentives. Where is the decency in business any more. Vivint I'm spreading the word to all my friends and reporting your business to the Better Business Bureau! read more

I have asked for an Alarm Registration form for the past two weeks and I still have not received the form in the mail

Buyer Beware!!! My family was approached by a Vivint Sales rep Thursday evening, July 18th. The salesman, Josh Coen, used aggressive and unethical tactics to try their system. We were offered items (that later found could not be delivered), incomplete install, not provided a notice of cancellation, and false contract pricing. Before leaving he left us with a pamphlet detailing products offered and referral cards. He blacked out (with a pen) the corporate number, and stated we should contact him directly with any questions. After calling Josh to cancel the service because of the incomplete install the following day, he was very persistent in offering more products (which he stated would be delivered in two weeks) and discounted price, which I would have to wait until he received an approval from corporate (which he stated would take a few days). I asked for all of this in writing and he stated he did not have my email address (even though an email was required to setup service). I inquired again about the period to cancel because the technician stated 3 days, which conflicted with what he stated. Josh, confirmed i HAD 30 DAYS to cancel. Fast forward a week and half later, I call Josh back to follow-up on the delivery of the products and new contract price, and the conversation is as if it was taken place for the first time. He did not recall anything from our previous conversation, at that point I opted to cancel. He then stated, I was outside of the cancellation period and proceeded to offer a corporate number (which he blacked out in the pamphlet and we did not have, until now). After several phone calls to corporate, our contract cancellation was denied...even after a representative stated it was an option after an inspection. I later found out work orders were altered, misinformation was provided and the sales representative would would not be reprimanded. read more

My story with vivint smarthome. They arrived at my mothers house at 9.pm telling her they had an appointment with her to install a new security system for her. She did not know them the company and she never does anything with technology without my endorsement as a 20year IT professional. So there is no way she asked for this appointment. They knew her name, address, telephone number and date of birth (where did they get this information from?) After asking to use the bathroom they gathered even more information about her (she has a Nest that i setup) and used this to convince her that they were affiliated with Nest ( owned by google ) and that they were going to give her the security equipment free (she has no money for this kind of equipment being retired and on a fixed income) They did tell her about an $80 a month service fee again that she can not afford and she told them this. My 69 year old mother does not function well after 8pm they used this and other scare tactics to convince her that she would not be safe without this equipment and service. My mother rents so she does not even own this house. Their procedure forces them to call a central office which interviewed my mother prior to installation. The sales man told my mother what to answer to every question again this is 3 unknown people in her house late at night while she was alone and scared. So she lied to the interviewer at the sales mans demand when asked questions that she knew at the time were lies. They had her put initials on a cell phone for her signature. I am not sure why but my elder sister was also someway connected to this (she lives an hour away had no knowledge of this company) so they had my mother sign for my sister. and then proceeded to install all of this equipment while my mother hid in her bedroom at this point very scared. By 10:30pm they were still in her house trying to get her to understand all of this equipment setup passcodes and things when she finally told them they had to leave so she could sleep (she is normally in bed and asleep by 10pm) They promised to come back the following day to setup the security alarm pad. They did not. She called me the next day and i drove up to see what in the world she was talking about. I immediately called their customer support and demanded they remove the equipment and refund her money. Their customer support was apologetic (but that does not cut it for them to allow these practices to go on). They confirmed that the individuals were indeed direct employees and not contractors. I was on the phone with them 2.5 hours trying to get them to cancel the service and pick up their equipment. Which i learned several facts from the call. 1. They have a 3 day cancellation policy for customers under the age of 70 (this is important because that means they know this is going on and are actively trying to enforce this contract on customers--remember they knew my mothers birth date and age before they arrived so they knew she would only have 3 days to get out of this) we were fortunate in that i called on the third day and was able to get it cancelled. 2. the customer support rep had heard of this type of behavior before although he admitted never this bad. 3. everyone but the initial support rep claimed to be a manager and there was no need for me to escalate to a manager -- you should always be able to escalate an issue and everyone can't be a manager. 4. once this 3day grace period is up you are locked into an extremely long contract (5 years) read more

Now that I see what reviews they've been getting I realize, I should've read the reviews. My experience so far has been short and painful. The sales rep came earlier today and convinced me to install their home security system along with the "new" connector for my solar panels. His explanation about this new connector didn't make sense, it sounded like the old one was only estimating how much electricity the solar panels produced and they have been overcharging me, and the new one will be more accurate. That alone should have been a red flag. Then when I told him I'd get back to him after I talked to my wife, he said the installers are here in the neighborhood, why wait, and btw you can cancel it within the first month without any charge. That was another sign. Unfortunately, I ignored the signs and sign the contract. First, the installers came about an hour later and told me right away they were in a hurry because there are two or three more clients they need to go to. There were a bunch of hiccups, first the thermostat did fit my HVAC system, then the wi-fi router was the wrong kind. The salesperson kept pushing and offering me some incentives, but more and more it just didn't feel right. So, I finally told him that I don't need his incentives, I just want to cancel the system. At this point that started threatening me that if something goes wrong with their equipment, I'd have to pay for it, even though I told them I had no plans to use it. Now I'm supposed to mail the cancellation letter and I'm hoping they will cancel without any delays. I will update this review once it's over. read more

Total headache and a monthly charge.. They installed a system that didnt work, then gave me the run around as they continually charged my credit card. Every time I called, they would add additional tasks in order to register a 'cancellation' even though 5 techs came out and the system hadnt worked for months. read more

I wanted to leave a review as I thought best to share my experience with many people. I initially had a horrible encounter/experience with this company. All sales associates and customer service representatives and supervisors at both levels were not helpful and extremely resistant. I proceeded to call the corporate office for resolution. I do not believe I ever found a number for that office but I found a number of a Mr. Dale Gerald. Nevertheless, I called the number not expecting very much but left a message of my concerns and surprisingly to me, I received a returned call from Josie. Josie is amazing and should be recognized for the wonderful customer service she provided. For something I had received difficult hurdle from all other representative prior, she handled my situation with professionalism and great understanding. I am so excited and perseverance defiantly pays off. Thank you Josie as the high rating is only for her. read more

I have had a technician at my home about four times due to non working cameras. I was told to send a written notice to cancel and remove the panels out of my walls and send them back. When their system was installed they took my existing system with them. I called the company to ask for my panels back that I paid for and was told they threw them away. I will not leave holes in my walls because they took my prior equipment. Beware of door to door sales. This company should not be trusted. read more

Buyer beware! We were told when we signed up that if we moved to an area that did not allow or have this service that we could cancel our contract. That is the only reason we agreed to move forward. Don't fall for it. Their equipment SUCKS! We have had the system for 6 months and have had nothing but issues. If they troubleshoot over the phone (which typically takes 20 - 30 minutes of your time and has you running back and forth between the device and the panel), all is good (assuming that works). If they have to come out, they charge you a service fee - FOR WARRANTY WORK! You don't have the option NOT to pay it. Their crappy equipment breaks and you pay for them to come replace it. And then they think they are doing you a favor discounting the charge from $50 to "only" $35. I will NOT renew the contract. Such crap! BEWARE and do your research first! read more

The worst!!! I have only had Vivint for about five months and I regret it whole heartedly. Both my cameras are out and my thermostat is not working with furnace. On 12/29/17 I was the phone with Vivint rep for over an hour. She had running checking panel, cameras, going to circuit breaker (she wanted me to turn all circuits breakers off, which I didn't do), suggested to me to check wiring in thermostat (I didn't do that because I am not comfortable doing so), reboot control panel, pull plugs out and plug them back in for their equipment. I all most felt like I worked for Vivint. Finally got a date for technician to come out 01/03/2018. Well, would you believe the technician never showed up. I never received a call that technician called out sick. I wasn't told about tech not coming out until I called them after my scheduled appt time. I asked the rep is there only one technician in Maryland to do work. Now he is trying to tell me the next available day is 01/08. That will not DO. I will call my bank and have them stop processing my monthly payment for Vivint and see how fast I can get a tech out to me so they can have their money. I can't wait for this contract to end so that I can tell Vivint they don't have to worry about me anymore. I want out now and we can go out seperate ways!!! Zero rating it is for Vivint read more

Initially, when we signed up for Vivint in June of 2016, the salesman told us that our two cats would not set off the motion detectors because they were small, however they did, all the time. We had several false alarms and the police sent us a letter telling us that if we had additional false alarms they would start charging us for them. We've had a Vivint tech in to set it to a lower setting, but because the two cats chase each other, they look like one larger person, and they set it off. The tech told us there was no way to set it low enough that they wouldn't set off the alarm. In November 2016, we tried to cancel our service based on being lied to by the salesman, but Vivint would not cancel our contract. We stopped arming it. In December 2017, our heat pump broke. When my husband was trying to use our Vivint home panel to turn the heat off so that it wasn't trying to run a broken system, he couldn't find the emergency heat option in the panel, so he called Vivint customer service. The tech that he spoke with noticed that the original Vivint tech who installed and programmed the panel hadn't told the panel that there was an E-heat option. He said that since we started with Vivint, our thermostat hasn't been able to turn on the emergency heat coil when the temperature dropped too low. Our heat pump burned itself out because of the Vivint system in our home. We asked for a copy of the tech's notes from this phone call but were told that we would need a subpoena to obtain the notes. It cost us $3,385 to replace our heater. We filed a damage claim with Vivint over the phone, and it was denied and we were notified by phone. We have requested a copy of this claim denial twice by email and once by phone and we haven't been able to get the claim in writing. They told us to appeal the damage claim denial by emailing claimsresolution@vivint.com, and the email was returned as undeliverable today, December 30, 2017. read more

Wish i could give negative stars. I had a salesman come to my house @9pm on a saturday and i agreed to get the system and was told it would be $47 for that day for my 1st months payment and 40 mins later two 20yr old show up to my house to install playing around cursing and arguing half the time, making a mess in my home to which they didnt clean up or offer to clean it up about 2 hours later i was asked to sign off that the equipment was installed later to find out they were charging me over $800 which was my full payment of my equipment which was no my agreement it was supposed to be added monthly on my bill. I was told they dont open up until 10am Monday so i would have to wait to speak with someone after speaking to 3 diff people i still dont have my money back. This is a follow up to a previous post. I purchased service from Vivint in July because of all of the great things I heard about the customer service. The technician installed my equipment but gave me motion detectors instead of the glass break devices or sensors that I requested. I expressed concerns with the motion detectors because I have a cat and I was assured that he would not trigger the alarms. Shortly after the technician left my home, my cat triggered the alarm. Since July I have tried to get a technician to come back to my home and install the glass break devices and there have been 13 no shows. I have taken off of work on numerous occasions expecting for the technician to make his scheduled appointment and no one has ever shown up. I called Saturday, October 1st to cancel my service because legally the failure to respond to my issue is a breach of contract. I also believe it is discrimination as I have been told by customer service agents on numerous occasions that the technician did not show up for my appointment in order to service properties in more affluent areas of town. When I called to cancel service I was told that I would either have to refer a customer or buy out my contact. I would NEVER refer someone to Vivint considering the way I have been treated as a customer, for them to even suggest that I do so is laughable. I do not believe I should have to pay to get out of a contract that Vivint breached. The practices of this company are downright discriminatory and racist. Buyer beware! read more

It's been a year and a half since purchasing this service and I can't find one thing positive about it! Once a month I'm forced to call for technical support and I'm on my second installed system by this company. Today I find myself a prisoner within my own home because the system won't disarm... Found out this AM that Technical Support is not 24/7; an automated system indicated that I was a valued Customer but "we are unable to help you, please call back during normal business hours". They didn't even mention their "normal" business hours... Finally got someone on the phone only to be told to play technician or be billed for a technician. Ok, but I don't get paid to be a technician however, I do pay a monthly fee for service so... Anyway, I'm told by a virtual tech that all I need to do is unplug the power to the system and unplug the battery within the panel. Really...then exactly how secure is my family then? When the system is in "Stay" mode only the doors are armed; no motion or vibration detection available, so a likely intruder only needs to come through a window or some other unseemly access and unplug the system. Unfortunately, our family are victims to a 60 month contract for a product and service that doesn't deserve my hard earned money! Oh, and I failed to mention that we were on a recent two week vacation believing that our home was secure after receiving confirmation from my mobile phone as such, only to return to find out from our panel that it had been unsecured... read more

Tried to cancel for breach of contract and they said we'd have to pay the full contract out. Tried to get them to cut the price, the guy said all he could do was remove service, couldn't cut the charge, even with piss poor service. Although the customer service representatives were cordial and seemed to be understanding, I promptly received a notice from a debt collector. I even expressed my concerns to one of the board members who I was very good friends with. No response. I'm not a jerk and I've never written a bad review about any company. DO NOT GO WITH VIVINT if you are not sure yet if the security system is for you. You are signing up the contract for 48 month (which you don't even realize due to the small print) and can't get out of it unless you buy yourself out by paying the entire balance. My husband and I have been talking about getting the security system for a while and when sales people from VIVINT knocked on the door, my husband said "yes" (I was out of country at that time). He signed a contract without paying close attention to details. They gave him 3 days to terminate it which is not even enough to realize whether you like the product or not. With kids running back and forth and my husband constantly stepping outside to smoke, we started to realize that it's not for us. Not knowing that we were obligated to stay with VIVINT for 48 month, I called the customer service ... guess what? We have to keep on paying almost $70/month for something we only used once over the last 2 month or pay off the remaining balance - almost $2500 to buy ourselves out read more

SO when we moved into our house we decided to get an alarm system. we decided to use a company call Vivint. If you are thinking about using this company DONT! And let me tell you why...there product is janky and their customer service is HORRIFIC. With in the first six months of having it one of the cameras stopped working. I called a phew times to schedule someone to come out (which we have to pay for) after 4 attemps of waiting on line for longer than 30 minutes i got a hold of someone...scheduled the appointment...and guess what no one came....so i said F-it we really didnt need to second camera so i just took it down....well then about 6-7 month later the second one stopped working! so i tried to call again . Was met with the same problems of not being able to get a hold of anyone via phone or email. Emailing told me to call a number...i would call the number...was set on hold. So i decided to stop paying. Well GUESS WHAT. when my payment was late they called us...i talked to the guy on the phone i said i will pay my bill but i need someone to come out and fix my equipment. So i paid. Then was transferred to another department . waiting for 20 minute. scheduled the appointment....no one showed again. However the one camera i had set up started working again. for a period of time....this has been going on now for 3 years. However for the past three months the camera has not been working. so i have not been paying. I have emailed. them several times and we just got a response after my last email which basically said i want to cancel service. Now you might be asking why did you just do this in the first place....well thats because the contract is for 5 years and if you cancel before that you have to pay the remaining amount of the equipment which is no small amount. But at this point and the level of productivity and customer service i am requesting them to eat the rest of the costs because in my opinion they have not fulfilled their end of the contract! SO i email them ALLLLLL this information and request a cancellation with no fees to pay. We get a response and day or so later saying call this number........i have called the number 4 times and left two messages. It goes straight to voicemail every time I call. So now i am going to try to blast this company on social media to see if i can talk to a human and get this solved! so #vivinthome #badcompany #fraud #horriblecustomerservice #dontbuy Vivint Smart Home read more

Do not use Vivint for your home security. I repeat do not use Vivint for your home security. We have had issues with the main panel and the doorbell camera. When you call Vivint, you have to become the technician and follow their instructions to troubleshoot the problem. A technician is never offered to the customer, you have to consistently request one. Then they want to charge you for the technician to come and fix their broken equipment. With all the calls and continued issues after not even having the equipment for a year, I wish we would have went with someone else. It's horrible. To top everything off, we finally got an appt for a tech between 4pm and 8pm, however, by 815pm, there was no technician. Called Vivint, somehow the appt was cancelled, but we didn't cancel it, nor did Vivint call to tell us it was cancelled. Now we have to wait two weeks for another appt. I warn all of you, do not enter into a contract with Vivint. Go with a more reliable company. The customer service is horrible. Charging customers for a technician on equipment that is faulty and no fault of the customer is unacceptable. Also cancelling appts without customer knowledge is unacceptable. Making the customer become a technician is unacceptable. Not providing some type of incentive to the customer for weeks and days of phone calls about faulty equipment is unacceptable. With all the issues our monthly fee has not changed. DO NOT USE VIVINT. read more

Service has been OK....however cancelling service is a bit much. I have been with Vivint over three years. I called in Dec . 2015 to get a reduction in price because it is too expensive for me to continue. I got a slight reduction. Today I called to cancel my coverage because I can no longer afford it . I am told I had two options payout the remaining 1 9 months $1,499.00) or get someone else to replace my contract. ( in other words make a sale for them). That is crazy. I am told that when I asked for a lower rate that automatically starts a new 42 month contract. I have never heard of such business practices. read more
