My husband and I were on a Date. We had not been out on in a while. I've been looking for a good Mexican restaurant that I can call my favorite since we moved from Florida. We are vegan. I'm also lactose intolerant. I asked for 2 vegan chimichanga meals, we asked the server to substitute the sour cream with Guacamole instead. The Sever was really sweet. Normally when we go to Mexican restaurants they do that free of Charge. They charged us $8 for a very small bowl of Guacamole. We ask them would they substitute it and the manager said no. An Avacodo is only $1.00-1.50. Tomatoes and other ingredients to make it are not that expensive. At some point you can't nickel and dime everything and also be about the money. My Dad ran an outstanding construction business and He always said that it's about good customer service. When you are nice to people they will keep Coming back. My husband and I pastor a church. We probably would have had our entire church come. We were talking and had planned to come back many more times. We homeschool as well and have a HomeSchool Coop at our church. I would have invited the homeschool coop as well. We are always recommending people to places that have vegan and vegetarian options. We will not be coming back. It's not always about the money. I ordered the Memphis burger. My order arrived an hour later and the meat was Very Dry, hard, and nasty! I expressed my concerns with the manger and they did not accommodate me in anyway. I like this place and have eaten there probably 30+ times over the years, but now; sadly, I am leaving them a 1 star review. It all boils down to the COVID-19 virus. Why? Because they are charging a service fee on EVERY ORDER PLACED. When I mentioned it to the guy at the register, he just shrugged. First time here in many years. By and large, I think Mexican restaurants are superior to American ones in terms of service and food quality. Viva Mexico is no exception. I am eating the enchiladas supremas with the variety of enchiladas. Bean, beef, chicken, and cheese. Very, very good. I will return Salsa: just the right amount of kick. Very good. Also just the right temperature. Slightly chilled but not cold. I hate cold salsa with warm chips and they got it right. Service: wait time just a few minutes. Average for Mexican food. Tea is topped off without my asking however she takes my tea away from me to go refill it. I hate that. Temperature: not too good in this department(except for the salsa). Food was warm but not super hot. Plate was not warmed up so food cools down quickly. Mexican food typically will burn you when it is served, but not my plate. Appearance: just kind of so so. Dirty carpet, worn out seat covers on booths, chairs and tables that wobble, limited decor, but nothing really bad. Tables are being cleaned promptly and the dining room appears clean. Health department score: 98! Way to go! Music: low level oldies instead of Mexican music. I actually found this to be a pleasant surprise. Menu: everything you can think of in every combination is on this menu. Also plenty of pictures. I think my biggest complaint is the temperature. If my plate was piping hot it would deserve five stars. I talked to the cashier about this and her said the enchilada plates are microwaved. Well there you go. No wonder. read more

Updated review...Apparently the more empty this restaurant is the slower everything moves. I eat here regularly and rarely have a problem. Today however I showed up later than usual so the restaurant was emptying out from the lunch crowd. Despite that, it took 2 attempts to get cheese dip and 3 attempts to get my entree order in properly due to language barriers with the initial server. Ultimately it took me nearly an hour to get in-and-out whereas normally it takes me 30 minutes or less. The food was still good but given the service issues I have to drop a star this review. I will probably be back in the next few weeks, hopefully they do better next time. read more

This restaurant is okay for lunch. The wait time for seating was pretty quick but if you want refills you can forget it. The waiter seems to be pretty busy for our table. We were waiting on drinks and chips but he took forever. The cheese dip was watery and not tasty as I imaged. My guest ordered the chimichangas but didn't care to much for it. She mentioned that there was no seasoning and the ground beef was tasteless. I wouldn't recommend ordering either of the two. The salsa was okay but seems to be better than the food. So Husband and I met some friends here for dinner last night. I ordered the veggie quesadilla and salad. Never would have I expected carrots, broccoli, or zucchini in a quesadilla but somehow it worked. And it was delicious! Who knew? Husband had no complaints about his combination tacos. I always ordered off the Uber Eats app. It was my favorite Mexican place in the area. I've spent a lot of money here. But yesterday since I was already out in the area, I decided to stop by. When I got to the register, Jimmy (I think that's his name) didn't even acknowledge my presence. I stood there for 4 minutes before he said a word to me. No "hello" or "I'll be right with you" He spoke to other people as they walked by. I should have just left but I was hungry. He gave me the wrong order so I had to wait another 10 min. I got my food and left. But I went back inside because I just felt disrespected. I told him how I felt and that I spend a lot of money there. He then held my $18 receipt up and said "this? This is a lot of money?" and pretty much laughed. No apology, no nothing. I will not be coming back or ordering online again. It's unfortunate because I really love the food. read more

I love Mexican food and have traveled extensively for business and personal purposes. This is definitely one of the best I have experienced and makes me wish I came to Memphis more often. Even the house margaritas are decent which is very uncharacteristic of most restaurants. I ordered chicken fajitas and my wife ordered the Jalisco burrito which was huge. All meats were obviously marinated and seasoned to perfection. It was just all delicious including the fresh chips and salsa. read more

I recently ate here during my weekday lunch break. I expected quick service, as most restaurants in the area know we office worker-bees are usually on a one-hour break schedule, and that includes driving to and back. The initial service was great, friendly server greeted me and got my drink quickly. The traditional chips and salsa-the salsa has a great flavor, but it is watery, no thickness to hold it to the chips. You have to find curved chips to spoon up the salsa or just use a spoon! I am not Mexican, so maybe that consistency is more authentic (let me know). My food came quickly, looked good, ample portions. The food was flavorful, but (no surprise), pretty standard Mexican fare, an entre with rice and beans. The rice and beans were fine, but nothing you haven't seen before. The chimichanga was excellent and was over-stuffed with the filling! Guacamole alert-they added plenty of guac, not chincy like some places! A pleasant surprise! Nice garnish of a little green salad and pico on the side; I appreciate the added greenery. But when I finished eating, I could not find my server-he had disappeared. It took me ten minutes to get the attention of someone to bring me my ticket. I still tipped 20%, but they were not so crowded that they should be ignoring customers. Summary: good food, affordable prices, passable décor (standard sombreros and dancing gauchos on the walls), but the service has some rough edges. The music is traditional Mexican and upbeat, adding to a pretty upbeat atmosphere. All in all, I plan to return pretty regularly, and I will update if the service issues appear to be addressed. read more

I went to this location on 11/29/2015. I was eating salsa and then my sister and lastly my mom.. when my mom put some into her boil and then came straw paper was inside the salsa. I forgot take picture of it but I really felt the need to say something so people are aware what they are during. They are pouring out the unuse salsa.
