Ask the Community - Visualeyes Optometry

Hello, I don't have insurance and wanted to check your current rate out of pocket for a basic eye exam and refraction. Also, would you be able to provide a written prescription for glasses?

Hi Stefania. Our current exam price is $160 which includes the refraction and a comprehensive look at the health of the eyes, checking for numerous eye diseases including glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. A contact lens evaluation would… Read more

I was a patient of Dr. Stein's, so you'll understand now I'm asking if your eye exams are covered by Medicare? Karen

Unfortunately at this time, we do not accept Medicare but we do accept a variety of other insurance plans including but not limited to VSP, Eyemed, Davis Vision, and Spectera.

Does anyone know how much they charge for a regular eye exam without insurance? Secondly, for an eye exam for contacts without insurance?

Hey Ashley! Without insurance, our comprehensive eye examinations are $150. That includes not only the refraction to determine the spectacle prescription, but also a very in-depth look at how the eyes work together, your eye muscles, focusing… Read more

Dodge affectionately says, "boring eyes" -- in that, medically, they are so healthy as to not need much beyond baseline wellness care.

JINS became for me the way to go for quality glasses, especially this location…read more I got a few frames and I have been very satisfied with the quality, and the reasonable prices. Unlike other places like Lenscrafter, the people working there know their job and are able to adjust the frame to you, fix it if needed, etc... I even came back with very old frames that were completely bend and with a broken nose pad and the salesperson, Isaiah, was able to fix it perfectly and replace the missing nose pads ! I really couldn't believe it how good of a job he did. All the other people I've to deal with at this location were great.

I prefer to purchase from JINS.com, but my prescription can only be fulfilled in store so I…read morereturned to this JINS location because of past positive experiences. Unfortunately, today did not live up to those expectations. I already knew which frames I wanted so I scanned them to check in and went through the prompts to enter my initial information. I was then called up to the counter in less than 2 minutes where I met Jason. Surprisingly he was very disengaged from the start. His first question was to ask to be taken where my selected frames are in the store. Back at the counter he asked for the same information that I already entered at check in, then for my prescription, which he entered on a tablet. I tried to make small talk, but he didn't seem interested. He then pulled out a binocular-like device and put it up to my eyes without explaining what it was or what I was to do. I only know from my optometrist that it's for PD measurements, but a little explanation would be nice before something is put up to my face. He then entered more info, asked if I wanted to pick up or ship my order -- I said pick-up. He gave me my total. As I was paying, he asked if I was using an HSA or FSA card. I was -- so he tells me my order is "Final Sale", which was fine. He printed out my receipt and said, "we'll call you when they're ready". We left the store, expecting to return in about an hour. We shopped, grabbed a snack and walked around. After about an hour and a half without a call, I returned to the store. Jason was no longer there. I asked Isaiah about my order, but then a young lady took over. It took her just a few minutes to find it. She then tells me that progressive lenses are not done in-store -- what?!? She apologized when I said I was not told that. She then asked if I wanted them shipped instead. Yes. She had me enter my address on the tablet and said that I'll get an email with tracking when they're shipped. Aside from the disappointment with this visit, I'm now worried that there will be an issue with the fulfillment of my order. It wouldn't surprise me if I get a call in a few weeks to pick-up my order. We'll see.

Sloan Optometry - Meet Brenda, she is one of our amazing Optician!

What an absolutely amazing staff of human beings…read more From the moment I first called to inquire as to what insurance they accepted, to setting appointments and picking up frames, the folks here at Sloan Optometry (including the hilarious optometrist himself) made me feel welcomed. It had been years since I had an eye exam, so I had that weird feeling of being out of the loop with any of the terms or options. Tammy and all the ladies in the office really did a fantastic job of not only educating me, but making me feel like everything was going to be ok. It's the type of place that you actually look forward to, because you always have a good time. I see why they are so highly rated, and I will definitely recommend to friends and family.

When I heard he was selling his practice and retiring, I got all freaked out because I'm kinda picky when it comes to my healthcare providers - I'm not a health freak - I do my best when it comes to taking care of myself and I really don't need some sanctimonious provider on a soapbox judging me for not being the perfect patient. I need a provider that will tell me what the current state is and little things I can do to improve my health. I don't have time for a medical degree mouthpiece ego scolding me like I'm some imbecilic stepchild who's the product of an unwanted pregnancy. Yes, I've had some horrific doctors in the past, if you can't tell by now. That's what I loved about Dr. Postar... and that's what I love about Dr. Sloan. I was apprehensive at first because he isn't as outspoken as Dr. Postar - but those fears were almost immediately allayed... As he's performing his exam, he shares his findings which to me is critical - because it then in turn encourages me to ask questions... and I ask a lot of questions. Being as patient as he is, he answers each and every one of them and I have never ever felt rushed or stupid for asking questions about my ocular health. Again, I'm not the perfect patient, and Dr. Sloan gently recommends little things I can do to make sure I don't go blind and can still give dirty looks to people when I'm 90. He's even forewarned me about things that may happen naturally to my eyes, "at my age" - I get it, I ain't no spring chicken and I appreciate his straightforward-ness. I don't have the time nor the diabetic ego for unnecessary sugar-coating. Don't even get me started on the staff - super sweet, real, down-to-earth ladies. Christie? Amazing, welcoming, and a great personality. Brenda? Straightforward, honest, and most of all - I didn't feel like she was taking me for a VSP insurance-billing ride. She tells it like it is (explained how to fully take advantage of my benefits) and I appreciated that. If you appreciate the gift of sight, go visit this place. And if you cut me off in the parking lot when I'm 90, have faith that I will be able to see you and give you dirty looks.
