Now Vista Optical So I am not really sure what happened with these folks that had a bad experience. All I can say is I am sorry you did, because I have been coming here for 4 years and have always had the same AWESOME experience. Even the employees are the same. The Optometrist is magnificent! She was very prompt in getting me in, she was very caring with her treatment, and she completed probably the most thorough eye exam that I have ever had. The front counter people are so patient and very attentive to the customers. When I was in last week, they were a little up in arms and for good reason. Some woman was in there with two of the most obnoxious little girls I have ever had the misfortune to share a space with. The employees were attempting to get some sort of insurance approval while this woman allowed her girls to run around in that some space, screaming at the top of there lungs. She didn't even attempt to redirect the behavior. I think the best moment of my summer was when she finally left and took those brats with her! Hey great parenting there lady!! After peace was finally restored to the world, the staff was able to help me pick out a great set of frames and what would have cost approximately $700, after including all of the bells and whistles, only cost me S110.00 and the Optomitrist, FREE! (Thank you Renton Education Association!!) I guess all and all, with the exception of the demon spawns that were there when I arrived, I had a great experience. PS - Working with the general public is never easy, but when you have to do it in an environment (Fred Meyer) that fosters a constant community of nutbags, you would probably, try as you may, come of as a little pissy as well. I took my recently purchased glasses in to see if the broken ear was covered under the warranty, and it turned out that they had made the lenses, but that I had reused the frames previously bought elsewhere. There was also a scratch that wouldn't come out on one lens, and it turned out that actually WAS covered, so I picked out new, (sturdier hopefully) frames, and they will give me new lenses under the extended warranty. Very nice. Of note, the one or two year warranty costs extra, but may be well worth it as it seems to cover almost anything other than loss or theft. Be sure to ask about the warranty when you buy, in case they don't offer it. Joni did my customer service visit, and it could not have been better! Very convenient to where I live too. I came in to have my nosepads replaced. Past staff members have always been very courteous to me, but today felt like I was being interrogated by the lady working there. The first thing she asked me was if I got my glasses there, and I answered yes. I've never been asked that before. Then she asked me something about the warranty. Even before I sent my glasses prescriptions to this place, I've come in many times in to have my glasses nosepads replaced, or other small adjustments made, and the staff were always more than happy to help. I wonder if it has something to do with accounting for the supplies that they used? I am a customer and they likely have my prescription on file, since it was sent to them. It just felt uncomfortable, much different from usual. read more

Horrible customer service. The lady taking my insurance information was clearly not interested in helping me, and even gave me the "ugh" sigh when someone annoys you when I handed her my prescription. The when I asked a questions about what type of frames are typically included, she was very abrupt and dismissive of my questions and rudely replied with, "I don't know that" in the same annoyed huffy tone. Worst customer service ever! This has been a while ago when I bought 2 prescribed glasses. The Asian lady was pretty nice on her sales but when I picked up my glasses a week later the other white lady was very rude. I told her the glasses didn't fit well and need some adjustments and it took her about 2 to 3 adjustments which should be normal. She started getting mad at me and breathing heavily and talking louder and me. Finally I just told her it's good now. I end up having to go to another place to let them help adjust for me and it end up well.. read more

This place is truly awful. I should start by saying I've had no problem with the doctors themselves, but the staff is unbelievably inept. I had promised myself 2 years ago I'd never go back again but I ended up having to go back when I ran out of contacts and they were the only place I could get an appointment. I came in, saw the doctor, he asked the staff to order my contacts which I needed to have ordered by the end of the year before my insurance ran out, and I paid. No problems so far. When I came to pick them up, they said they had no record of me ever being there since 2007. Then I remembered this had happened before two years ago. The amount of time I've had to spend getting them to fix their error was not worth it. When they finally ordered contacts for me, they chose needlessly expensive ones when there was no particular reason to do so, and when I finally did receive them, I had to pay beyond my $200 yearly insurance coverage. I've also been in there when the staff is fighting with people on the phone. So, basically, not worth the hassle. Why the main doctor is working there is a mystery, he has a medical degree from Berkeley - he should just open his own practice. read more

I'm not sure what to make of my experience. I felt like I was inconveniencing them to call and ask for an appointment. Lots of lingering uhmmm, hmmm well... Uhh... I did make an appointment though, and put it in my phone for 10am. The day prior to the appointment I got a reminder voicemail that my appointment was at 11. I thought, "shoot I must've entered it wrong". I called at 9:45 to confirm the 11 appointment. I was told no, it was at 10, but I could be a little late. Great! No, not great. I was expecting 11, and had childcare arrangements for that time. I just brought my daughter along, got there at 10:15. On the way the whole scenario replayed in my mind, awkward unfriendly booking of appointment, inaccurate voicemail, the associate hadn't even apologized for the mistake! I went in and told her that I would have to reschedule this appointment elsewhere. She was very cold and seemed irritated with me. Never once was I met with a pleasant voice, a smile, or sympathy. I read mixed reviews on Yelp and wasn't sure what to expect going into my exam. I have to say though, this has been the best and most helpful eye exam I've ever had. I feel like the doctor really understood the issues I was having and was able to address them in ways other doctors never even considered. The doctor was very helpful, friendly and well-educated. After a baby and returning to the gym, I wanted to stop wearing glasses all the time and move to contacts. I have sensitive eyes, so comfortable contacts have been tough for me to find. Dr. Chung worked cheerfully with me for a couple of months as I worked my way through many different types of trial lenses. Finally I found my fit! They take my insurance and I haven't had any trouble with the front staff. read more

I was a new patient recently at Vista Optical in the Fred Meyer Ballard store. I was a little skeptical because of some of the reviews on Yelp for the previous optical outfit in this Fred Meyer. But i was pleasntly surprised by my experience. The optical exam was professional and thorough and the staff was very friendly and helpful, The insurance processing was careful and effective and my new glasses were carefully fitted. I will definitely go back when it's time to renew my prescription again. read more

My Husband and I have both had the worst customer service over the phone here. My Husband called first and the woman that answered the phone was incredibly rude and unhelpful. At first I thought it was my husband just not wanting to deal with scheduling the appointment and wanting to get out of it, so I called. I think I spoke with the same woman because she was AWFUL! So unfriendly and unhelpful! She said that she would look up my Husband's insurance info and give us a call back...but I've already schedule an appointment elsewhere. Screw them. read more

I went in two weeks ago to get new glasses. They had a buy one get on free sale going on. I spent probably an hour in there trying on different glasses. One of the ladies was very helpful and offered options, too bad I'm very picky with glasses. After picking out both sets I chose the lens and it was that easy. I gave them my prescription then paid. They called me 9 days later telling me they were ready for pick up. The prescriptions were accurate and they were helpful with the fitting. Thank you! read more

I needed contacts before a trip I was taking. I ordered them in March for a May trip. They never showed up, but I was told I could get a pair to use while I was on vacation. I went back for those pair and the Dr didn't want to give them to me. I had to throw a pissy fit before I got them. The contacts I ordered arrived some time in July. Empty promises and a rude doctor. Vowed I'd never go back there. read more

I have always had great service and the optometrist was amazing. I had seen 2 optholmologist for an issue with blurry vision that was intermittent but becoming a real issue. He accurately diagnosed my issue --- no blurring since! I recommend the shop frequently! read more

Wow, I can't believe how many folks have had the same experience as me with this place. Been wearing glasses for years and after two failed attempts to get a pair that work from this place, I am still wearing lenses with chromatic aberration in the supposedly "no prescription' section of my progressive lenses despite their having repeatedly told me there was nothing that could done about it. This is a review about Vista Optical inside the Ballard Fred Meyer store. I had a terrible experience. From the beginning the exam felt rushed and inconclusive. When the first set of glasses arrived after a week, the focal length of one lense had been inverted (+1.75 instead of -1.75). After another week I received glasses that, when worn, made me feel nauseous. Following the sales pitch of the clerk I tried them for couple of days - to no avail, whenever I wore those glasses I felt like a drunk. I called to set up another eye exam and was told that no additional exam would be needed and that new glasses could be made based on the original exam. When I came in to arrange for the new glasses I was told that first an additional exam needed to be scheduled. The doctor at the next exam was as rushed as the first, but on top of that arrogant. When asked what 20/50 vision meant, he replied with "you might not be capable to understand that" (I hold a master's in computer science). Now, after 5 visits, I still don't have glasses that work for me. I suggest giving your business to a more professional service like Ballard Optical or Eye Associates Northwest. read more

I have been going to Vista for 4 years now and the only criticism I am able to give us that they are consistent! Consistently AWESOME!! I have witnessed people come in to the store and from jump, test the attendants with unrealistic demands, insurance challenges which of course have nothing to do with them and quality of glasses, again nothing to do with them. I have received not so good glasses when I was trying to cut corners and phenomenal glasses when I was willing to pay a little extra. What I witnessed and again on several different occasions, were a group of impatient, demanding, and self-entitled jerks! Oh and let's not forget about the mother who let her primary grade school children run around the space screaming at the top of their lungs and who allowed her very young children to make their own decisions on glasses. On kid said she didn't want them at all and pitched a fit when her mother said she had too. Bravo to this very patient team. It would be very hard for me to work there and not carry a gun!!! read more

I think this place has a new name, Vista Optical in Fred Meyer store. I went here because it was listed as a provider for my medical insurance. The optomitrist was very nice (Dr. Huang), and then the search for a place which would send the bill for the glasses to Medicare began. Those of us who've had cataract surgery are entitiled to a pair of standard glasses after the surgery. However, the vision companies say this benefit doesn't come under vision benefits, it's under Medicare Plan B, and they refuse to bill Medicare. How do I know this? Because the manager of this Vista Optical, Heidi Adams, spent a lot of time on the phone talking to my insurance company, her bookkeeping office, the eye surgeon's office, and several vendors, asking who would take my case on. She went above and beyond my expectations of service. After more searching on my part, I found NO vision stores in the area willing to bill Medicare, and ultimately my insurance company said I had to pay for the glasses myself and submit the claim for reimbursement. So I went back to Vista Optical at Fred Meyer and ordered my glasses because of the outstanding service Heidi provided. Now let's see if I get reimbursed by my MedicareAdvantage plan. The book may say we have benefits, but we have to find someone willing to provide them......hate to see what socialized medicine will do. read more
