Because of frugality, I've gone to the Northgate Target Optical for exams the past few years. Initially it was fine, but the last two exams resulted in utterly useless eyeglass prescriptions. The lenses prescribed were far less effective than what I had already been using. Once I figured was a fluke one-off, but now it's twice, and no way will I return. Don't waste your money. read more

In my 23 years of buying glasses I've never had this much of an issue. wrong perception that wasn't even close. impossible to return and get the correct ones without going through a million steps that lead you to "I'm sorry we can't process your request we are working on it" customer service is a 12 hour automated speech before you can even speak to a actual person. Been going with my family for years. They lost me now. Made an appointment months ago for entire family. When you make an appointment, they confirm, and you take time out, pay for a cab, and arrive at your scheduled time, you expect to be seen as you always do. When you arrive and they act like they don't know who you are and claim no appointment is on schedule, they screwed up badly. I didn't. Acting like I never made an appointment and doing me some favor by turning me away and scheduling my family on some other days is not acceptable. I don't appreciate being gaslit. I didn't randomly decide to place this particular day, time, for an appointment, and shove my family into a cab because I was bored. After being turned away, because we had "no appointment scheduled," the very next day, I get three automated emails from target addressed to my family stating, "we missed you" - prompting me to reschedule the appointments I just missed yesterday. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! When you treat your patients like garbage, gaslight them, force them to leave and then have the audacity to tell them they missed the appointment you just claimed they never have, your patients never return. After years of business with you, we've now booked with a different optometrist. I hope others read this. I hope they think twice before going to Target. read more

Dr. Tran is great. I've seen him twice and my prescriptions have been great. The opticians have sucked both times. They upgrade you without informing you and without consent. I will return here for exams but will not by glasses here again. It's too bad. I like the glasses, but don't like deception. read more

Mixed experience here. The optometrist was excellent. I think he did a better job than the last one I saw. My vision with glasses is better than it's been in years. The sales experience was not great. The person was not entirely honest about my insurance coverage for single vision lenses. When I got home and looked at the coverage, I called and asked to have the lenses changed, which she did. Then she offered 40% a second pair. I had originally planned to get one progressive and one single vision. But I would have gotten a better price using my insurance on the more expensive progressives - not the single vision. So it was super annoying. If she had just been honest with me, I would have spent more money. I will go back here for exams but not to purchase glasses. read more

I recently got contacts and stopped in to see what sunglasses were available. The sales lady told me that I won't need a plastic tray to put sunglasses I because I told her I was just browsing. The plastic trays are for glasses that were tried on, and need to be sanitized, due to covid precautions. I'll bring my business to Eyes on Fremont, where staff are much nicer to folks of color and let me try on glasses and don't give me grief whether I'm just browsing or not. read more

I never thought getting an eye exam and picking out glasses would be fun. Yet when I went into the Northgate Target Optical department, on a Sunday no less, I found out how shocking enjoyable the experience was. The staff, particularly Denise, was top notch. She treated me like family and literally found the perfect pair of glasses(and sunglasses) on the first go. Can't say enough about her excellence. Hoping to save others from having the same frustrating waste of time, or better, that target optical will read this and improve their practices. I provided my insurance information and made an appt for a routine exam, the technicians called me the day before and said that I don't have vision coverage but would be welcome to pay out of pocket. I called my insurance and confirmed that I do have 100% coverage on routine exams. Then called target to inform them of this information. The technician then read me the same script.."the authorization is not going through..you need to call your insurance and find out what their third party vision carrier is." Even though I had told her several times that my vision coverage is billed under my medical benefit. I insisted SEVERAL times that it is their responsibility to speak directly to the insurance company of there is additional information required to submit the claim. Not once did they attempt to call the provider line of my insurance company or this whole thing would have been avoided. I should not have to be the go between the insurance company and the clinic. Very disappointing and needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Pretty disappointed in the service I've received here. I called twice to attempt to order contact lenses and both times the employee was brief, condescending, and put me on hold or said they wouldn't be able to access my files until after business hours. Was on hold for 5 minutes, never received a call back. I called again and asked why I never got a call back and the employee responded "oh let me put you on hold again". So rude. Anytime I asked a question the employee made me feel stupid and like I was wasting their time. Really sad cause I spend a lot of money on contacts and would prefer to order online and not deal with real life employees anymore. read more

This will be my 2nd time having gone to Dr. Wang and it's always a pleasant and professional experience. She can also check if you have early signs of glaucoma and make further recommendations based on what she finds. Would definitely recommend her and her staff if you need a personal and well-cared for touch to your optometry needs. read more

3 stars. Let me be clear why the three stars. Positives: 1) Because the optometrist that helped my mom was amazing and incredibly patient with her. He took the time to work with her and understand her needs and I am pretty sure he missed part of his lunch to make sure he gave her the right prescription. Kudos, thank you and I am grateful. 2) Because Denise. Denise is awesome. I came in to the store fully expecting to get my mom's glasses to another store. Denise was so nice and connected with my mom to such a personal level, so yeah we ordered the glasses here. If you need help with glasses and want to enjoy service? Ask for Denise, go to Denise. Seriously - she rocks Negatives: 1) The glasses are late. That is not okay and it is annoying. We had asked to see if they can be delivered sooner rather than later. That didn't happen. Okay, still not overdue. But the glasses are now late. 2) The guy I just got off the phone of. I am already annoyed and talking with him made me more annoyed. I was trying to understand what information he needs to give it to him. I am a long time customer with Target Optical. At first he tells me I've called the wrong store and should be talking to Redmond. Nope pretty sure I called Northgate because that's the store we made our order out of... Also, I am at the moment in a loud common space. GUESS what happened? He had to repeat himself a couple of times. So he got frustrated with me: 'Oh my God' was his reaction. Alright dude. With Sears Optical now closed everywhere, I thought I would try Target. Lesson learned, never again. I purchased new lenses on existing frames (which they still sell) & specifically asked for the nose pads to be replaced. Upon picking them up, she remembered me and said, "I couldn't find them". Really? Also they were not fitted or adjusted on me what so ever. Probably go to Costco for fitting & new nose pads. read more

He was attentive but also not too pushy, explained the promotions very clearly and what my insurance offers me. I had an exam with Dr. Tran, who was great! The office was very clean and the two associates up front were very friendly and attentive!

Good experience overall. My appointment was later in the day, close to quitting time. The salesperson was nice and didn't do a bunch of upwelling, which I appreciated. The doctor was nice as well, I only wish there had been more of an effort to establish a relationship. read more

EDIT - They called me and refunded my visit and are not billing my insurance so I can use my benefit elsewhere so I am adding a star. I do truly appreciate that but it was still a really frustrating experience and a waste of my time. They told me the issue is between them, their third party billing company, and Spectara and they basically are not an in-network provider. This was actually more frustrating as they are listed as in in-network provider on Spectara's website. I get that maybe this is not directly their fault, but is it really my problem as a customer that they have that miscommunication? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My actual exam was okay, although my prescription is very different from one I got six months ago, so there is a chance it is wrong. That being said, I had an issue with billing. I do understand sometimes there can be confusion if a person encounters a scenario they are not familiar with, but the person processing the transaction refused to consider the possibility I knew what I was talking about, which is frustrating in and of itself. This was a difference in hundreds of dollars of out of pocket cost. I had to spend an hour on the phone with my insurance company to get them to send me the form the doctor was supposed to fill out, then send it to the doctor and call them back to ask them to fill out the form. Honestly, it was also kind of frustrating when they did finally fill out the form, they just sent it back with no comment at all. In my experience, generally when you are in a customer service role you apologize when you're wrong. This might seem like a little thing, but as I told them, for the past five years optometrists have billed my insurance correctly automatically with no issue, so my advice would just be to go to a different optometrist that would get it right the first time, or at least listen and consider that you might be right. read more

I have been a customer with target optical for 2-3 years , i went there for purchasing another perscription glasses. The lady was NOT friendly at ALL. She seemed dont want to take care of my need. She even said i was not on the system i just went there 3 months ago for eyes check up and bought a prescript reading glasses from there 2 years ago. She made faces when i did not want to take the package they offered for my reading glasses i was planing to buy, tho i still purchased the reading glasses + lenses from them with the bad attitude she gave me. I just moved to Bellevue, WA from Gainesville, FL and right before I moved I had my annual eye exam and found a pair of glasses I really wanted at the Target there. I was worried they wouldn't arrive on time so I waited until the move was complete to order. I went into the Target Optical here and was instantly greeted by the two associates. Super friendly, was already really happy with my experience (this is important to me). I had a picture of the barcode and the frame so I could find the same pair easier. I did my thing looking even though I was offered help because I'm stubborn and wanted to do it on my own. Well 10 minutes of wandering later, I couldn't find the pair so I asked one of the women for assistance, who I later found out was Denise. She couldn't find them either at the store or in the back stock, so she called the store in Florida (who didn't answer) to get them for me. After a few times of calling with no answer she checked and found them in the stockroom - YAY for me! She was able to complete the order efficiently and seriously went above and beyond to make me happy. She was knowledgeable about the lenses I needed and the entire order process. Denise - you are AWESOME!! Thank you so much for the warm welcome to Washington and for being so friendly! She's able to connect with people and the conversation really felt genuine. My eye exam was the worst doctor experience I have ever had. Dr. June Wang was impatient, not friendly, and condescending. I was given incorrect information when I set up my appointment about their costs. Any question I asked was met with a degrading and annoyed tone of voice and smug looks from Dr. Wang. I had difficulty putting my contacts in and she was very impatient. Maybe I was the last appointment of the day and she wanted to leave? Overall, I was so disappointed in Dr. Wang's lack of professionalism and disrespect. I should have known better than to go to a Target to get my eyes checked. If I could give June Wang a zero, I would. The one star can be for the staff because they are nice. But as for June Wang... she is the worst, rude, and most incompetent doctor I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. June is impatient, doesn't listen, and got my prescriptions completely wrong. I went in for both an exam for both glasses and contacts. She disregarded everything I said about the type of contacts I wear that work for me and prescribed me the wrong contacts. I had to physically go to the optical center - she refused to speak to me and had her associate handle it - and have her correct it. It took her three days to make a simple change. I later went to order prescription glasses. Once again, the prescription was wrong. June Wang refused to correct my glasses prescription unless I paid her full price of the exam. She wanted me to pay her $160 for her error! What's most petty is that she never had the guts to directly speak to me. I feel sorry for her associates because they get burned for her shady and incompetent practice. I have since gone to a new doctor where I have had nothing but the best treatment and correct prescription. read more

My experience with Target Optical was amazing. I had visited this location for the first time about 6 months ago and briefly browsed their sunglasses section while shopping and was asked if I needed help with anything by Robert, one of the opticians. When I went in for my exam this month, Robert actually remembered me from all those months ago which I thought was impressive. The eye exam went smoothly, and Dr. Wang was friendly and informative. She took into account which contact lenses I have previously and adjusted my current prescription using the same brand, as I told her they had been the most comfortable contacts I've tried over the past 8 years. Dr. Wang also asked me if I drove to the appointment today and if I would be comfortable with having my eyes dilated. Since I did drive, I was allowed to skip the dilation if I didn't have any concerns. I appreciated that she considered my own comfort and did not push any further. After the exam, I sat down with Robert again to go over costs and such. There were a couple of hiccups with my insurance and he promptly called my insurance and sorted everything out for me, something he did not have to do as I see that as a patient's responsibility to handle their own insurance. I was also interested in purchasing sunglasses as well and Robert was able to pull all kinds of discounts and I ended up getting a pair of custom Raybans for 50% off! Plus he made sure to walk me through how to receive an additional $50 mail in rebate for the brand of contacts I purchased. He was one of the most friendly and genuine sales associates I've ever encountered. All in all, great first experience with Target Optical and will most definitely continue to get eye exams and contacts here! read more

The worst!!! My husband and I came here because our insurance changed. My contacts were horrible from day 1. I returned them and had them order the contacts I had worn before. That was fine. Whatever. What makes me really mad is they made my husband a pair of glasses that are totally blurry. He returned them and they had them redone. Blurry again. He's worn glasses for 20 years. Target people keep trying to sell him an "anti-glare" coating. They say that's why they're blurry. He needs the anti glare. Give me a break. They're blurry. Never had any anti glare coating put on any of our other glasses EVER and they weren't blurry. Fix the problem!!! He's now used his only insurance benefit for the year and is stuck with glasses he can't wear. read more

Went in for a check up recently at this location. I can't even remember the last time I had an eye exam so I was a bit nervous. Dr. Wang was very informative and made me feel comfortable with each process. I had a full exam including dilation, ordered my prescriptions and was on my way. The staff was awesome as well which made everything from start to finish a painless and enjoyable process. I had a lot of questions which everyone was happy to answer so I learned a lot, Including how bad my eyes are! Eye will definitely be back when needed! read more

I have used Target Optical for many years. Coming to this one has turned into the world's largest pain in the ass. They threw away lenses I rightfully owned and paid for. When trying to return something else, they made me wait forever, then didn't even know how to return it properly. It was a waste of time and so far beyond what should've been the case. Magically they figured out how to work the machine when I was calling corporate. Update: Make sure you are clear on your benefits before going here. They were not great at explaining them. Went to somewhere else a block away and saved money. Obviously partly my fault. Just heads up. read more

I had taken my elderly parents to get an eye check up a couple weeks ago to an optometrist in Edmonds, WA. They were very impatient and seemed annoyed by having to deal with elderly people. The doc was so annoyed we did not even bother getting prescriptions from them. Even though my parents used their annual insurance allowance with this doctor we decided to pay out of pocket and try Target Optical Northgate a couple weeks later to get reexamined and fitted for glasses. I have personally had good experiences there in the past with both doctors as well as the staff in front. It was a night and day difference. Dr. Eslami took amazing care of my parents and showed so much patience and respect. He was beyond thorough and his kindness almost brought a tear to my mom's eye. He also took the time to explain to me in detail the issues each of them had so I could explain to them what was going on with their eye health. Understanding and avoiding confusion is key for elderly folks imo and they both were very pleased and satisfied after visiting with the doctor. The nice people working the front of the shop were amazing as well. While I was with the doctor and my mother the sweet African American lady (apologies, I didn't catch her name) helped my dad pick out and get set up with his glasses. He is elderly and hard to communicate with but she managed to help him wonderfully. Both my parents left with smiles and the confidence that they would be getting the right prescription and glasses. read more

My review is for the sales staff. We went in last night on a fairly busy evening. The young man was very attentive and extremely patient with my aunt. I've seen many people in sales who get frustrated with older customers, but he was professional and allowed her to take her time making decisions, which is not a quick thing for her to do. Always great service and friendly. They carry Oakley, but not sport specific (cycling, running, etc.) models. When I need prescriptions sent to other optical places, they are always fast and friendly filling that need. And, they always clean my glasses whenever I stop in for just questions.
