I went here in summer 2025 for an exam and wanted to get the lenses for my glasses replaced with a stronger prescription. The doctor I saw was kind and professional. Everything was done very quickly. What came next was the not so great experience I had with this business. I waited over 2 weeks to call and check in on the status of my glasses. The receptionist I spoke to was short with me and let me know if I wanted a clear status update, I would have to reach out to their optician otherwise I should wait to hear back. They didn't offer to help transfer the line to the optician or let me know when the optician was available. Another two weeks flew by with zero communication and once again, I reached out to the business and again, the receptionist was short with me. I was able to get in contact with the optician and the explanation for why my glasses weren't ready was that my frames must have gotten lost somewhere... they offered me new frames and lenses free of charge to compensate for the long wait and losing my frames. I thought the gesture was nice, but it doesn't excuse that they lost my frames that I purchased elsewhere. read more

Automated Calls at insane hours! I have been going to Dr. Sean for eye exams for 3 years. he is great! but lately, the communication of this business is so chaotic. they would call you at random hours to ask you to schedule appointments thru out the year. The Worst experience was waken by an automated call from then at 7 am on a Saturday to ask me to reschedule while I just had my eye exam appointment with them 10 days. its a nightmare experience to have automated bot constantly calling me and asking me to schedule something that I already did, especially for an eye exam that is not urgent. what kind of fire drill is this??!!! it's frustrating that I had to block their number. read more

They used to be great when Dr Traci Lee ran the place. I think she sold her practice and now it is a mess. I had a few days left on my old contacts prescription and wanted to order a yearly supply before the year end. Called them. The worker told me he cannot take the order and the optician needs to process it (why???). He said I needed a doc appointment to place a contacts order and of course there were none left in 2024. I was told to leave a voicemail and someone will place the order. 3 days later - no replies. I came to their office 1 day before my prescription expired to find out they haven't ordered the contacts. I was told to call again and leave a voicemail again. Seriously??? Then someone who appeared to be a doc told me their electronic system is messed up and they cannot order my contacts without an appointment which they didn't have this year. And they are not accepting walk-ins. They kept telling me how busy they are at the end of the year but lines of patients were nowhere to be found. The guy at the reception was trying to sound as polite as possible. Little did he know it is not helping to resolve my issue. I had to press multiple times to figure out that they cannot order the contacts for me in 2024 under no circumstances. I don't need a fake hope, I need to know I have to find another place asap! After I made it clear, they offered to print my prescription so that I can take it to another doc. Guess what? After 15 min of looking for my prescription they found it but it had no signature of Dr Lee. Ie they did not have a valid prescription for me on file! Luckily, I had it in my email from her. 15 min later I ordered a yearly supply of contacts from another optometry. No "computer system glitches", no need for an appointment. They gladly took my $850. I guess Urban Optix doesn't need my business. I cancelled my yearly check up with them scheduled for 2025. read more

For normal annual check ups, this place is great if you're in the South Lake Union area. But if you think you'll have problems or need eye drops for anything outside of annual check ups and ordering glasses/contacts, I'd look elsewhere. I've been a patient here with Dr. Traci Lee for the last 5-6 years (before she retired), and recently switched to Dr. Thoreby to give another optometrist a shot. He seems like a good optometrist so I was going to keep coming here. However, I recently tried calling to get a quote for a non-annual appointment (just the appointment only to take a look and hopefully get some eye drops to help retain moisture), and the receptionist (Stephanie) recommended that I go to the ER because it sounded like a medical emergency. Dry eyes is not a medical emergency, and the guidance seemed inappropriate. Depending on what you're looking for, this may or may not be the right place for you. If you want an optometrist for only the basic annual things, this place does the job. If you want an optometrist who can provide eye care IN ADDITION to the basics, this place doesn't do the job anymore, so I'd look elsewhere. I miss Dr. Lee. read more

Update: I've been coming here for a while now and watched this clinic grow significantly. Dr. Lee always provides great care and each visit is incredibly stress-free every time. The office layout is simple and appealing, but more importantly clean especially during these COVID times. The office always stays up to date with their trendy glasses selection too. I'm a creature of habit so I keep coming back for their Masunaga frames because they're so lightweight, but sturdy. The frame quality is far superior (duh it's Japanese made), and literally I haven't needed my frames to be adjusted from the constant wear and tear use since receiving them day one. For the busy working individual, they have a really easy online scheduling system which makes it convenient too. Keep up the great work and care Urban Optix! read more

I've been coming to Urban Optix for years. Dr. Lee and her staff are competent, kind, and very transparent about their billing. During COVID, they put great effort into maintaining safe masking and distancing. I highly recommend the Retinal photography, even if your insurance doesn't cover it. You get to avoid the after-effect of blurred vision. My photography one year showed some damage, which I was able to forward to a specialist and track over time. read more

I was ready to finally establish vision care in Seattle, after hanging on desperately to my beloved, boutique, San Francisco-based doctors (shoutout O.P.T. Optometric in the Mission), and everything I had seen online appeared to be a good fit for Urban Optix. I did my diligence and called to ensure that they would take my vision insurance before scheduling an appointment, and I was assured they did. After making the appointment (more than three weeks in the future), I received several calls from the staff stating I had not provided my insurance information (I had, via photo upload on the website), then that they were unable to find my insurance account, and ultimately that they do not, in fact, take my insurance (which is, somewhat unfortunately, through United healthcare vision, and not VSP). Faced with the friction of starting the process all over, I opted to keep the appointment and pay for it out of pocket. The icing on the cake is that when I finally arrived today at Urban Optix for my scheduled appointment, the front desk staff informed me that the doctor I was supposed to be seeing was out with Covid. She said (and I quote) "oh, I'm not quite sure how we missed calling you before you came in" and then proceeded to tell me my only option was to reschedule for sometime after Feb 16 (3.5 weeks from now). Dear Reader, I regret to inform you that this "solution" is no solution at all. I am certain optometrists are in high demand, but the complete lack of respect for patients' time and providing misinformation is poor customer service at best and blatant incompetence at worst. Hence, the one star review. I will be finding a different solution for my dwindling contact lens supply and advise others to seek eyecare elsewhere. read more

I was skeptical at first as I found this business on zocdoc, but they are super legit and I'm so glad I took the chance! For context, I am a glasses and contact lens wearer with very poor eyesight so I'm selective about where I go. I've been everywhere from America's Best (1 star) to Warby Parker (4 star). Check in was easy, they were very organized. Forms are prepared before you come, and others you fill out on an iPad. They are upfront about prices and what your insurance will/ won't cover. The tech was personable and kind and took my concerns seriously. I then saw Dr. Yu and she was great - caring, professional, and helpful. Bonus: there's some restaurants and coffee places next door so you can stop for a snack or bev before/ after. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

I've worked in five different optometrists over the course of my 20s. None were as smartly run as Urban Optix. Dr. Lee is wonderful. I haven't felt so heard and acknowledged by a health professional in years. She's definitely my new OD for hopefully a very long time. Now if you have dry eye issues like me, Dr. Lee will refer you on to Dr. Thornbey. Don't hesitate. This medical visit is highly worth it. He'll take a closer look at your dry eye issues, give you some concrete recommendations, and tell you about these cool new procedures (BlephEx and iLux) that will change your life. I bit the bullet (they are expensive and insurance doesn't cover them) and I honestly feel like I have new eyes. 100% with it. I can't tell you how much my overall eye health has improved since finding this optical. I recommend them to everyone! read more

I had an appointment today with Dr. Lee. I arrived and the front desk stated the Dr. was out. Reception stated they called around 830 AM ( my appointment was at 1030 AM) and left me a message they needed to reschedule. At 854. AM I received a text and email reminding me of my appointment. Absolutely unreal. I asked for next availability and it was a month out! Unfortunately Urban Optix has lost my business for good. Never has this happened before and I was in the wrong for not checking voice mail during working hours. read more

I came here for an eye exam and the people who work there are nice, but it's definitely more expensive compared to the previous clinic I went to. They charge you $35 to measure your pupillary distance. I reached out to my old clinic in downtown Seattle and they said they would do it free of charge so I think I'll stick with them. read more

I booked my appointment with plenty of lead-time for them to check my insurance and apparently the doctor I booked with (whom I was at the mercy of their system), isn't "credentialed" with my eye plan and I find out only about 3 days in advance and told I have to go online and rebook for another time and blamed me as if I was the problem. The actual doctors are pretty good but the service and the experience absolutely sucks. I've been going to Dr. Traci Lee for nearly 4 years now, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her, her team, and Urban Optix to anyone in need of eyecare! Before the appointment, Urban Optix is fantastic about communication: they respond to my numerous questions quickly, send over any forms to fill out to expedite the check in process, and provide really helpful text reminders (as I usually forget to add appts to my calendar). During my eye exams, the staff are super friendly and always treat you like a friend, not just another paying customer. Dr Lee comes off as really knowledgeable and honest... she walks through and explains everything clearly and actually provides lots of cost options. In my last exam, she was able to quickly and clearly explain how my insurance changed after I changed jobs and how it'd impact my cost for contacts and my glasses allowance. She also suggested 3 contacts options and gave me a chance to sample a few before I commited to buying. At other places, I always felt like I was being pressured to buy something or that I was being upsold and that I was being rushed out to get the next customer in. This is the only place I will be going to for eye exams, contacts, and glasses from now on! Everyone here is incredibly friendly and open and the entire office felt warm and inviting. I made an appointment online (where it states their schedule very clearly) and was taken in right away even though I did arrive a bit early on the day of my appointment. The paperwork that you have to fill out is very clear so there were no issues with that and the actual eye exam was a quick and painless process. Dr. Lee was very accommodating and made sure that I felt comfortable and relaxed during the beginning process and Dr. Thoreby took over the rest of the exam. He explained everything very clearly and listened to my concerns carefully. He and Dr. Lee showed a lot of understanding and were amazing at really listening and making me feel heard. After the eye exam I was out to pick out frames for my new glasses and this part of the appointment was incredibly fun! They took my personal style into account and we all had a lot of fun picking out frames that made me feel confident and happy to actually wear. They explained their prices incredibly clearly, showing what my insurance would pay, what I would pay, what I would be paying in the future, and how much contacts would be as well. I get so mind boggled when numbers come into the picture and even I understood everything going forward. This is a place that I would honestly recommend to anyone, especially after experiences with other optometrists. Everyone at Urban Optix goes so above and beyond what I've experienced at other places and it was honestly so refreshing. I'm very happy with urban Optix, I've moved around the US a bit and have always had negative or neutral experiences with eye doctors until today. Dr. Lee was super great at answering my questions and was very engaged in making sure I had healthy eyes and explaining imaging and other topics to me. Love that all the staff are super cautious about covid safety here. They make sure you are not in contact with other customers, and properly clean all glasses you try on etc. I got my eye exam done and ordered a new pair of glasses which im in love with! They have a good selection of stylish frames, which made picking out a pair much easier than usual. Update: I was completely impressed by my experience this week. My glasses broke and I called expecting to buy new ones. Instead they told me it was under warranty and it took me less than 10 minutes to get new frames with my existing lenses. I love them. I see (hehehe) Dr Lee and she is amazing. She's so good and gives me all the options while not pushing me in any direction. She's fun to talk to also!!
