They found a previously overlooked medical issue, were able to perform the tests, and set me up for future exams every 6 months. Great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As for dealing with the office, I have to say it was much easier to deal with the previous doctor's office. I used to be able to call, talk to someone, get my question answered. At Roosevelt Vision, because the office is big and procedures are there, it's a little more convoluted.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Case in point: I had my eye exam a while ago, but I only got the prescription for "General use" eyeglasses, which I'd use for my driving for example. These are progressive, because I need to see distance as well as car dashboard etc nearby. Previous doctor also gave me a prescription labeled "Computer," which I use while working on my computer. These are also progressive. I need to see my monitor (intermediate distance) as well as my phone or a book nearby (reading). So I called Roosevelt Vision to ask for a prescription that is for computer use and explained what I needed. They were at first very pleasant, said no problem, I don't need to come in, and on the same day called me back to say my prescription was on the patient portal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I tried to log on to the portal as instructed, but got the error message: there was no account with my email. I called the office. Turned out their "system was updated a while ago," so my email had to be added.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I eventually got to check the portal, to find that the new prescription was for single vision. At this point it's still fine. A misunderstanding. That happens[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I emailed back the person I spoke to, to ask for a prescription that is good for using with computer but is also for even closer distance, explaining my situation. I also attached the previous prescription, which had "Computer" written on it[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. She wrote back: "Hi xxx, I would suggest you call the office at 206-527-2987 and press the option for the optical department. Let them explain to you what a computer lens is versus a progressive lens. I do not believe I could explain it adequately via email." I mean, what's with the tone?! Nomenclature of the lens aside (which I don't think clients are expected to be expert in), it sounds as though I needed to be explained to like a child (I'm 53 yo). My previous doctor--an OD--called the Rx "Computer." How was I supposed to know what I'm asking is not "computer"? I left a message (after the obligatory multiple choice phone prompts to choose the optical department), so an optician can explain to me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After today, I'm questioning if I want to go back. Since I was told to come back for exams on regular interval I would've been a steady stream of revenue, but I don't appreciate the runaround.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [Update] I talked to an optician, who told me what I needed was some branded "workspace lens" (hadn't heard of that), and "you're welcome to come in and talk to someone about it." When I said what I needed was a prescription & I was previously told I didn't need to come in, she became increasingly short, and told me I already had the "general use" Rx, so I don't need another prescription. I thought that was for further distance; I really wanted glasses to use at my desk (intermediate + close distance). I only left a message because the first person told me to, but she kept saying "I was told you had a question; have I answered your question?" sounding like she couldn't wait to get off the phone, so I said "I guess so." She was like "okay" [click] & didn't even say "bye" or "have a nice day." I guess I'm only worth such pleasantries if I'm buying something. (Though I am their doctors' patient - I also would've been open to coming in/buying lenses if they'd been nicer.) I felt like they wanted to fit me into the workflow/procedures/products they have, instead of trying to figure out what I was asking/what I needed. Thirty years on a bike and I almost had to hang up the helmet--my prescription got so tough I couldn't wear contacts under sport shades. Riding blurry isn't an option. Roosevelt Vision got me back in the game. They spec'd custom sports glasses in my exact Rx and worked the lens/frame combo until it fit my tricky prescription. Not cheap, but the build quality on my Rudy Project lenses is legit, and even with the aggressive wrap the optics are as crisp as my everyday glasses--no weird distortion, just clean vision. Roosevelt Vision was my family's place for optometrist needs growing up! Back then it was off Roosevelt in the U district in a small portable building kind of clinic. Some of the original doctors there now have their grown kids (very much adults) in the new location. I followed them to the new location as it was near my old job in the Northgate area and felt my overall eye care and maintenance was generally well tended after. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The office manager was pretty cool and I still get a lot of compliments in one of my glasses frames![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As much as we hope that the classic or taste in customer service stays the same, unfortunately at times when places get big, things can shift. As the appointment got closer, I got a call from front desk saying shes out on Columbus Day & they would need to move my appointment. I'd put off getting new glasses because I was concerned about Covid protocols and also I always feel lost when choosing glasses. Roosevelt Vision eased my anxiety on both issues. Instead of customers milling around touching all of the frames, everyone is sat at a desk with an optician who talks to you about what you want, and brings different frames to you to try on. Each frame is sanitized before and after you try it on. Once you make your decision, they go over the financial part in detail and make sure you understand what you are paying for. I was told it would take 2 weeks for my glasses to arrive but they were ready to pick up in 5 days. At pick up another optician made sure they were fit to my face and once we were both satisfied, he told me to wear them for a week or two and come back if they needed further adjusting. The business manager copied their reply to my Google review here, even though I already wrote an update on Google to address the inconsistencies in their reply. So I copied my update on Google below. I appreciate the 50% discount on the two lenses that were remade. The optician at that time offered it to me. It was a special request, and exactly why I included "(I'm not complaining about paying because I had a special request.)". However, I stand by everything in my review. They did get the prescription wrong - I still have the old prescription at hand to prove this: their order didn't match the prescription. And I should mention that I *did not* ask for the lens to be remade *complimentary*, because I didn't want them to be remade to the original prescription. The result would have been acceptable to me, if I didn't discover the mismatched coating right after I got home. I was handed the glasses in the waiting room and didn't get a chance to have a close look. So I don't know how they got the feeling that I "seemed satisfied", but that's OK. read more

I've been a long time patient for routine eye care here. This past year I had several complications in my vision due to my age, including a vitreous detachment that made my vision very distorted. Dr. Henrie has been following up on that care as I had surgery to correct that issue. She is so thorough, a good explainer, and very kind. I have been going to RV for years. In the past my doctor was always the wonderful and masterful Dr. Jamieson. He was exceptionally competent and was always kind and empathetic. However, he retired and I saw several other doctors, all of them positive and helpful. That is until I had the unfortunate experience of having an appointment with Dr. Kim, a harsh and rather indifferent individual. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On our second meeting, she coldly confronted me with the words "we need to have discussion".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She stated that I was to be basically banned from RV because I was wearing a GP lens after having glaucoma surgery nine years ago. I have mentioned this decision by Dr, Kim to several doctors outside of RV and they were appalled. The irony is that the reason I went to see Dr. Kim had nothing to do with the glaucoma surgery, yet she determined I was no longer welcomed in the clinic. They've got a good Covid protocol and everything was really easy, parking is in a garage which is fine, unless your lucky enough to find street parking in front like I did. I don't always do well with change especially during a pandemic but this went really well!! I see Dr Chang ever since my other Eye Drs retired and I really like her! Upon making an appointment with Dr Samek for my annual checkup was told my present insurance with well known Humana was not in their network. How cheap they have become. Was stunned as I have been a client almost 40 years or so beginning in 1985 when my wife was hired by Clinic Founder Robert Jamieson. During her employment we hosted their summer picnic at our poolside home for four times and once a staff meeting to which our living accommodated. I was unable to book an appointment. Asked that the clerk share my story to Dr. Samek who was away that day. Dr. Samek never phoned me .... how cowardly!!! I have been going to Roosevelt Vision for a several years now and I have to say I am always impressed by the professionalism of the staff from the front desk staff to the optometrists. I appreciate the text reminders for appointments which is a very nice touch! With our current covid situation, they have been so diligent about ensuring that everyone wears a mask and practices social distancing. They encourage patients to only show up 5 minutes before their appointment to minimize the amount of people in the lobby. They set the lobby up so there is no seats close together and are constantly sanitizing the seats and common spaces which is very reassuring to me as a patient there. The technician (I forget her name) was so thorough with all the tests I had to do prior to the exam with the optometrist. Very efficient and very professional. I have been seeing Dr Jessica Kennedy the last 2 years who has been AMAZING! Very down to earth and explains things so well. She takes time to answer questions, especially since I have a family history of glaucoma. She is so well educated and I always feel confident in her care. Customer beware: I was a long term customer...I had a recent eye exam and returned with my wife the next day to pick out frames with the new prescription. Only after asking if my insurance covered sunglasses, did they reveal they dropped my insurance (a 30 year employee with King County). I was shocked it wasn't disclosed in full before we made the eye exam. My wife who worked eye care in another state mentioned they always disclose when a customers insurance is dropped. I've been going to Roosevelt Vision for over ten years and have been happy with every doctor I've seen. My most recent exam was with Dr. Helen Kim and she was terrific! She was incredibly thorough in checking my vision and overall eye health. I especially appreciated the explanations that accompanied each step. It was one of the most comprehensive healthcare experiences I've had across all specialities. The rest of the staff is top notch too. Jeanne helped me select new glasses in an attentive and caring way. The whole process from check-in to check-out was efficient and smooth. The office is super clean and decorated nicely. Been going there for years for glasses and they have a terrific selection in their optical department. More importantly they are super friendly and know how to work with kids. The wait hasn't been long and they have a direct tie to your vision plans in their computers so you can tell what your benefits are right away. This is a big deal if you have a vision plan. The quality of their glasses is great. It is expensive, but they do spend the time with you to fit the glasses and make them look great. Also given the wear and tear we've had on them, they are always willing to figure out how to repair something. They've honored the warranty for various eyewear that has broken, found screws that were missing and are always willing to adjust things. Really super service. Keep it up! read more

In light of the response of the CEO, I'd like to update my previous review. Instead of apologising to rectify the situation, the response was to cover up their mistakes. 1. They did not try calling me or emailing me during the six months I left Seattle. My number only changed about the same time I wrote the review, and I guess they did that to try and get me to take it down. 2. I didn't want to be emotive in my previous review, but before the billing manager hung up on me, I heard them whisper 'f* off.' I know for a fact there weren't phone issues, it was deliberate. I reiterate again: go somewhere else where they treat you like a patient and not a customer. And try to cover their own tracks with misinformation. I approached Roosevelt Vision today, desperate to address my Dad's urgent need to correct his vision while awaiting new glasses. He is 91 years old and had lost a critical lens for his glasses, so was seeing double. He has been through a lot the last few months. The simple answers were "nothing available" and this was the day before Thanksgiving. Thankfully, I encountered Jeannie, who after several different attempts, found me an end-around. It was the most creative solution possible, and as I went to get the necessary lens (as a result of her call to a former employer), she stayed with my dad and took care of getting his new glasses set up. Haven't had a better experience in 20 years of wearing glasses and contacts. Even before my eye exam, the text message appointment reminders were a nice touch. Staff is always very friendly, positive and easy to work with (especially Jenny!). They seem genuinely happy to be working there. I recently visited three times: a full eye exam, a contact lens fitting, and a contact fitting checkup/contact purchase. They took the time to listen to my whole story and choose the right contacts based on functionality--NOT trying to upsell me or rush through the appointment. Take your money elsewhere. This company overcharges for everything! They bill separately for a "contact lens fitting" and charge again for glasses prescription. I maxed out my benefits, was billed another $71, and then had to buy my contacts out of pocket!!! It's a nice place, but unless you're willing to overpay by hundreds of dollars you should go somewhere else. They are also not clear about the excess and overreaching charges until it's too late. read more

The physical space is bright and welcoming, the selection of quality frames in the optical department is impressive and their dedication to cleanliness is outstanding (especially during COVID)! But what prompted me to leave a review is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff and doctors. I am consistently impressed at how I am treated each time I visit. On my recent visit, my technician, Rae, was thorough in cleaning all the machines before she had me use them (which I appreciated!) and was very friendly. Jeanne, in the optical department, is always "spot on" in helping to find the perfect frames and always a pleasure to work with. I've never gotten my eyes checked and after a year noticing my visions changing I decided to get it checked. I spent a lot of time researching places to go and I'm so glad I found Roosevelt Vision. Making the appointment online was super easy and once I checked in, they started my exam right on time. They walked me through every test they were doing, explained the results to me and advised me to hold off on one of my prescriptions until my recheck in 12 months. I appreciate them talking through all my options and explaining what being new to wearing glasses was going to be like. They even helped me pick out my frames....which was the hardest decision I have ever made. The billing was super easy with my insurance, I used my HSA to pay the remainder on my glasses and walked out the door feeling relieved that I finally got my eyes checked after worrying for the past year. After having several different Optometrists in the Seattle area over the years, I can confidently say Roosevelt Vision is the best out there. The entire staff was so friendly and welcoming and the doctors are beyond knowledgeable. They continue to address my concerns each time so I leave feeling heard and cared for. The doctor I saw was good. BEWARE The glasses are a scam. Billed $1250+ to insurance, and $200+ to me for one of their cheapest pairs. I'm not sure why I didn't just go to costco or something after getting the rx. All that and the glasses don't even fit.. the actual lens touches my skin when they're on my face and are painful to wear with over-the-ear headphones (which I told them I wear all of the time). My friends who wear glasses regularly were incredulous when I started asking them if any of this was normal. I guess the staff was supposed to do a better job figuring out what my first pair of glasses should be. I went back to the store to have a refitting and the person there did some hand wavy thing with the glasses (honestly they might not have adjusted them at all, they seemed no different) and then told me my problem was that they were my first pair of glasses and that I needed to get used to them. I went back home and tried wearing them again for a couple weeks. They still suck, so I've stopped wearing them for good. I'm outside of the window to return them (surprise, surprise). I wasn't going to say anything, I mean I did hold onto the glasses for longer than their return window so that's my fault I guess. That said they did talk me out of returning them several times and told me to give it some more time, so maybe it really was part of their plan... they certainly got a lot of money from it. In any case they added a $1.50 surcharge (yes a tiny amount) onto the $10 copay that I just recently paid and it reminded me how angry this place makes me. So I came to write a review and try and warn you from going to this place. That makes $1254 (claim to insurance) + $214 + $11.50 (paid by me) for a UNWEARABLE pair of glasses. I can't go some place else to get some glasses b/c they cleaned out my vision insurance for the year. They did not disclose any of this up front! In fact they told me insurance had me covered. That's expensive. More than expensive, that's a strategy to commit fraud. read more

All I have to say about this clinic is check your bill. They bill you for services and then are reimbursed by the insurance company. It's called double dipping. They told me that the visit would be covered by insurance, my daughter had the appointment and I began receiving bills for the full amount of the visit. When I called to ask why the insurance hadn't been billed they said that they didn't have all the information. That's kind of funny seeing as they obtained pre-authorization from insurance provider before they would even schedule us. Finally I received the correct invoice and it turns out my portion was $10. The insurance paid the rest. Check your bill, they will charge you and then get reimbursed from your insurance provider. A fellow co-worker had the same experience. read more
