Both Drs. Cannon are nice people, and it saddens me to write this, especially since my partner and I have been going to Market Optical for decades for our eye needs. In short, I think it's a fine clinic for getting eyeglasses if you don't have an irregular medical problem. I went to Cannon EyeCare for years, and I had my eyes dilated each time. I just happened to go to another clinic (mostly because I wanted Rx sunglasses for sports & wanted them for less cost than what Market Optical offers). The other doctor looked my eyes and identified I have what they call "anatomically narrow angles," which could hinder the drainage of fluid in the eye. This meant I was at risk for increased intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) and, if severe enough, angle-closure glaucoma. This also meant that my eyes should not be casually dilated (because that increases the intraocular pressure), unless it's deemed medically necessary and the benefits outweigh the risks. The other clinic examined my eyes more closely to determine the extent of narrowing. For now it mostly needs to be closely monitored, but they cautioned against dilating my eyes unnecessarily. The other doctors were also ODs, so I don't think it was a matter of specialty. read more

i saw Dr. Mark Cannon because I had what i thought were the beginnings of a stye. Most doctors would have been able to lancet the stye to prevent it from getting larger. I did not realize that since Dr Mark Cannon is only an optometrist he can not do that. Instead what he did was sell me a beauty product and claimed it would help with the stye. He also looked up my copay at the time and determined it was $0. The style proceeded to get worse and he then determined it was "cellulitis". He put me on some antibiotics for it (the wrong kind by the way). At this point he should have realized he was far out of his depth of practice and told me to go to an ophthalmologist. He once again looked up my copay and determined it was $0. He then setup another follow up appointment at their pike place office since he said he had better equipment there to resolve the issue. I said sure since well it wasn't costing me anything out of pocket and i hoped that with his "better equipment" he might be able to help resolve the issue. I went for a THIRD appointment to the pike place office where he once again checked my insurance and my copay and determined it was $0. He did a quick basic exam the same as the first two times and just took some pictures of my eye lid. That was the only difference with his "fancy equipment". Basically he was able to bill my insurance for more money for a procedure that was not needed and did nothing to resolve my issue. I then decided to go to an ophthalmologist where they saw how bad my infection was and determined that I needed surgery to drain the infection. They also determined it was NOT "cellulitis". That immediately helped fixed the issue, they looked up my copay and determined i had one! I paid it there. They did not sell me any products or try to sell me any extra services like Dr. Mark Cannon had been doing the entire time. Every visit with him he sold me something or tried to sell me services or add-ons for $100-400. A lot of which would have done nothing to help me in the slightest. Finally I got a bill from his office for a copay and I was very surprised by that fact since he had checked not once but three different times to make sure i did not have a copay. I then called his office and spoke with him and he gave me some story about how he billed insurance and found out that I had a copay (basically he looked up the insurance incorrectly). I told him that was not my fault and he needed to take care of it and that was that. A few weeks later his wife Dr. Miranda Cannon emailed me out of the blue for unknown reasons. Backing her husband (which of course she is going to do) she is the co-owner of the clinic and also the wife of Dr. Mark Cannon. I found it very bizarre and off putting. Her email also contained information that compromises HIPAA. Basically they are snake oil sales people and i would avoid them like the plague. read more

He tested my eyes for vision, glaucoma and then offered some great advice on how to deal with dry eye naturally through compresses and massage. Dr. Mark was a super nice guy that was willing to accommodate a last minute emergency appointment for me. He was EXTREMELY thorough with his covid precautions, I had a temp check upon entry, verbal screening, was able to wash my hands before sitting down, and watched him sterilize the entire room. I felt extremely comfortable and safe. As for the care I received - outstanding. He really spent time explaining to me my condition and how to prevent it in the future. One word - Amazing! I came to Dr. Mark with many issues and a very complex prescription. To make matters worse, I had just suffered a detached retina. I felt that my vision had changed because of it, and I was in need of a reevaluation anyway. At that point, I thought I would never regain the ability to see clearly. 1. Getting the right prescription glasses prescription - I HATED my previous glasses from the day I got them (costing $500). But the other place I went said that there was nothing that could be done except to adjust the frames. I LOOOOOOVE my new prescription from Dr. Mark and have not seen this clearly/easily near and far for years!!! 2. Getting the right contacts - I am near-sighted with eyeballs shaped like footballs (astigmatism is the tech term). But, I use a computer all day and didn't want to wear reading glasses at work. He patiently worked with me to tweak the prescription to get EXACTLY what I needed. I can't believe that my vision is now better than before the detached retina! When the retina specialist tested my vision, they said that I should be able to achieve excellent vision again, but I didn't believe them. 3. Looking at the whole eye - I had a very talented retina specialist, but when I complained about pain after the surgery, he said that everything was great and there was no reason for the pain. I suffered for over 2 months. I came to Dr. Mark for an exam for what I thought was retinal pain and possible worse detachment. He looked inside my eyeball AND outside! He figured out that it was dry eye - even though my eyes had been tearing like crazy since the surgery. Who knew that was a symptom of dry eye? He did! He prescribed drops and other natural remedies and I am pain-free with better vision than I have had in years! Added bonus, his staff are all wonderful, friendly and helpful too! I don't remember ever posting to Yelp before, but I originally went to see him after my previous Dr. left Market Optical because of positive Yelp reviews. Dr. (Mark) Cannon (of Cannon Eyecare) and the staff at Market Optical are awesome, and I'm really relieved to have them as my eye care team. I switched to Dr. Cannon because my former optometrist is located all the way in Mukilteo, where I used to work, and that just wasn't going to work with living in Seattle and working in Bellevue. Although Dr. Cannon did not accept my "discount" (a graceful way of saying shitty) vision insurance, he did print the forms for me to submit a reimbursement claim with them. And to be honest, when it comes to any health care, I would rather go with the doctor that I trust than who is in my network (obviously within reason). And at the end of the day, the cost wasn't that ridiculous. I got a lot of discounts for same-day decisions. Dr. Cannon was super understanding of my dilation phobia (I need to work on this) and let me have my eyes checked without it (we took photos of my eyeballs instead - this is an additional charge of $50). He also warmed me up to the idea of contacts (eyeball phobia) and signed me up for a 90-minute training/care for my contacts when they arrive. Dr. Cannon was also very concerned about my migraine issue, and we discussed several different methods to help lessen their frequency. Honestly, it's one of the first times I've had a doctor really take an interest in my migraines! It was a nice feeling to be able to speak openly with him about all of my concerns going forward. As far as Market Optical, I have always loved this shop. The prices are really high, but the options are unique and interesting. If you have some FSA to get rid of, this is the place to do it! This was my first time at Cannon EyeCare and I definitely plan to go back. When I called to schedule an appointment, they were able to get me in immediately. When I arrived, they were very mindful about COVID and the safety of their customers. Dr. Cannon solved my chronic dry eye problem! I was in pain every night from dry eyes despite constant eye drops, warm compresses, and eye massage. He prescribed prescription eye drops that work all day and night with twice daily use. Now my eyes are comfortable all the time, and I don't even think about them. The gentleman who answered the phone could care less about answering my questions as a new patient. Also, all the other optometrist businesses I spoke were open to answering my questions and even checked my insurance coverage. NOT THIS PLACE, they tell you to call your insurance company and literally tried to deter you by telling you that the exam itself is like $100+ (I don't remember the exact price). Dr. Cannon is by far my favorite eye doctor because he's fun, nice, and professional and is good at explaining eye care procedures, like managing contacts while skiing and camping. I had an excellent appointment with Dr. Mark Cannon just today! I went in for a lazy eye detection/treatment. I wasn't sure what the condition was called. He diagnosed my issue, and also checked out my eye in general for any thing else. He gave me options for therapy and glasses. And answered all my (possibly naive) questions about whether I may go blind eventually from my condition etc. I loved that he was honest about how a surgery might in fact do me harm. I too was put on hold and finally hung up. I called back and she was snotty, and told me I could not get in for almost two weeks. When I went online to see if I could get in faster, I got in to see him in three days (and this was just to figure out why my new glasses seemed like the prescrption was off -- it was). So, mixed bag, unfortunately. If you can book on line, and avoid the person who answers the phone, you'll have a lot better experience. Dr. Mark Cannon has seen me twice now, and I am very happy with my eye exams. He was very good at explaining additional tests that might be good for me, their cost, if insurance covers them, and so on. I am a professional artist who has always relied on great eye sight until I was diagnosed with a serious disease of the cornea requiring a transplant and then a second one after a rejection. Visited Dr. Mark Cannon for my eye exam. I asked ALOT of questions since it has been a while since my last eye check-up. He listened and was able to answer all my questions with thoughtful answers, taking into consideration my situation. He also got be in a new brand of contacts after hearing about my situation, and after setting me up with the new ones, I was so overly impressed at how well they fit and worked with my condition I raved about it to him on my follow-up. He also was able to refer me to a local optometrist that could help me out with ordering the new set of contact lenses and frames. Since the practice is fairly new I couldn't order the lenses directly through him, but once he's all set up and good to go, I will definitely be ordering them through him. I would highly recommend anyone living in the area who needs to get their eyes checked to go to Dr. Mark Cannon in Uvillage. My brother wears glasses and contact lenses like me and I've already told him to go to him the next time he has a check up. read more

Dr. Cannon was amazing. I was having an issue with eye dryness. He performed an eye examination that did not hurt and was very thorough. He did not try to "sell" me on products and I didn't feel rushed, two issues I had run into at an eye care clinic off Leary Ave in Ballard.
