Even though the food was great, it wasn't delivered in a timely, orderly, or friendly fashion, which, in my opinion, takes away from the entire experience of going out on a weekend evening, not to mention, my 30th birthday. The restaurant itself was what I expected, a family-owned place that's been around for years--loved and enjoyed by many. However, for whatever reason, it seemed that the place was very busy and understaffed when we arrived. Our server, whom we never did hear her name, didn't come to our table for a good 10-15 minutes when we sat down. It was about another 10 minutes until we had bread and water on our table. Having been a server in Pittsburgh for about ten years in the past, I as well as my husband know what to expect when it comes to service at an establishment. The food was delicious, and for many, that may be enough, but for me, I could feel that our server was overwhelmed; however, she made no sincere apology as to what had happened to our dining experience. A quick "sorry everything isn't out" or "sorry it's taking so long" was all we recieved and she would then fly away without asking if you were all right. At the point where my friends had no drinks, one was waiting for a side dish, and we hadn't been asked after a minute or two how everything tasted, my husband decided to speak with the manager/owner. She confirmed what I had said earlier: The server has been here forever." Exactly, forever, and she knows that it doesn't matter if she strikes out here and there: She's viewed as the "top dog" in that place. To end this, the server then had the nerve to ask another man at our table if he had been the one who said something to her boss! Needless to say, our server made this our one and only time to dine at Vissagio's. I am certain that they cater to many and many love the place, but for us, we were swept under the rug. A server should always communicate with her table, first by telling them his/her name with a genuine smile. A server should ask how food tastes, minutes after it is served. A server should NEVER try and place one table's dinner order with another's; one never allows food to sit and get cold! And, a server should never back talk a table where he/she clearly knew that he/she was too busy to truly provide outstanding service. I have apologized to many tables in the past, some whom didn't accept. My husband has given out more free desserts than I wish to share, but the bottom line is that this place sticks to their guns when it comes to doing things right ot wrong.
