We came in for an appetizer and drink because we'd had a late lunch and were going to skip dinner. We just missed the happy hour (4-6pm). This place is attached to the Virginian Lodge complex which is a pretty cool place to stay overall. There's a little gift shop, a burger joint, the saloon, a pool, hot tub, all sorts of little amenities. So this saloon is one part of this whole lodge experience. Immediately, we liked the laid back ambiance with lots of sofas and comfie chairs to hang out with a small group of people. We sat at the bar. For us, the vibe and casual, kickback ambiance was a five star for what we were looking for (which was that). We ordered two appetizers which were maybe about average: the hatch pepper queso was not as good as the Pace queso from the jar that we had just had a week prior. The chicken tenders were typical bar tenders, nothing special. Basic fries. So the food was struggling to score a three star. The thing about the service was that it could have been much better but because of the early hour we seemed to be sort of the warm up customers. One bartender was in training so while he greeted us he was promptly dismissed by the main bartender who alternated between being the best and the worst bartender you might have. When you're two of three people at the bar and there's only five people in the whole place you might expect to get more conversation from the barkeep since we were out of towners and looking forward to hearing about the local scene. Nope. I guess you could say it was mainly our high expectation of having a friendly bartender but ended up feeling sort of like a bar seat. This was at a very low ebb in the season as well as the day so I can't imagine that the experience would improve with more people. As with all things, it's all about expectation. If you don't expect a great bartender, and don't expect great food you might come away pleased with the venue. But no dark on tap so don't expect that either. read more

Ive gotta say I love this place. Its welcoming, cozy, and cool. You can come here after a rafting trip, kickball match, or all dressed up before a night out. Great bartenders and great food at Billy's. Really nice outdoor seating too. One of the only places in town that is staying true to its casual atmosphere while other places in town turning into fake "elevated" experiences and charging more just because they can. We didn't eat food here- this review is for drinks and experience. We came in 9-11 for some drinks and to play pool on a Friday night. This place is such a vibe and very chill. Bartenders are nice and there's a pool room with 2 tables and no wait (surprising for a Friday). We tried another place in Wilson first that was too crowded and seemed more of a locals only spot, but this place was not too busy. They completely ruined a beautiful western retro bar, now it's a cheap decor bar, with awful lighting and dirty tables and bar. Gross. On top of the over priced bad drinks. Went on a karaoke night. The KJ seems to invite more regulars to sing more than anyone it seems. Service at the bar was friendly but lack any concern about working the whole bar and were noticed sometimes just chatting away with other locals. The whole bar is tiny too and it seemed like there were 2 twice as many people in there than what should be legal. Quite stuck up crowd as well. I really wished my experience had been better but I guess I also had high hopes. Oh well, cross this place off the list. I also haven't been on the Jackson bar seen in quite a while. read more

It was around 12:30am at night and we felt like going out but alittle lazy to go to directly in town so we decided to go to the Virginian Saloon instead. The place was pretty full and alot of different types of people from cowboy's to family people and I saw some biker too. The place was loud w/country music and I am sure what u r thinking but it wasn;t so bad plus it felt like a REAL wyoming bar w.stuff real animal all over the wall. The beer was pretty cheap and it only cost $11 for a pitcher of local beer on taps such like the snake river pale ale. Oh yeah did i mention you get to eat free popcorn, yummmmi The bartender was nice and friendly and actually I like this place alot better then the Sideway tavern because it feel like wyoming. Without a doubt the best bar in Jackson Hole. If you don't want to get caught up in the tourist trap go there. Get bartenders that will tell you all you need to know about the area. I had nachos that were amazing and my beer was never half full. I went to the Cowboys bar because it was on my bucket list. But two beers and a two shots cost me $31 dollars. Went to the Virginian and two beers was $4 bucks. Easy math. Great atmosphere great people. If you want to swim through the tourist and over priced shit don't bother to come here. Don't sit on the wrong half at the bar. Like I did. Unfriendly bartender. Had to get up and walk to the good guy on the other half of the bar to get a drink. My half of the bar was neglected. Just poor service by one guy that effects the tips of the other. read more

If you want to feel really Wyoming... then you must stop at the Virginian! Locals feel, you can still smoke cigarettes in there, so it gets smoky quick, free popcorn, pool, an old photo booth ;) it's a fun spot! good times! the beer is cheap! read more

What a bar..... I don't feel like this review is fully applicable as the owner was not involved, but a employee was. We are an organized event traveling through Jackson and were having a great time until the "event". We had done the whole karaoke thing and had a great time.......BUT!!!***The bartender was the most aggressive, disrespectful person we have ever encountered. Hosting an event I had brought in 18 folks that were spending hundreds of dollars at the bar. But the "gentlemen" bartender had aggressively pushed down one of our organizers to the ground for not leaving fast enough. UNBELIEVABLE!! We have never got into an altercation in our lives let alone a fight from staff!!! Owner** we own multiple businesses and know the concept of running such business, BUT that was inexcusable and repulsive. A member of staff punching a customer in the face!!???!?!! Confused by the policy of the virg according to the barmaid. We had 3 rounds of drinks on Sunday night of hillclimb weekend, March 27th. After each round the barmaid swept whatever change was left stating once a patron turned their back to the bar the money was theirs. This place was excellent! The whiskey was wonderful and the help was phenomenal! We were in the car all day to get here and they made it worth it!
