FALSE ADVERTISING!! We were in Pendleton competing at the rodeo and thought we would treat ourselves to a nice fancy meal to end the long week of traveling. We called the day before and made reservations, when we showed up to be seated we were escorted through the nice restaurant, outside under a tent with with plastic chairs & table. We ordered, paid $120 for a sub par steak, very small salad, 3 pieces of bread, water out of plastic cups and sat through a rainstorm with it flooding and others hovering over our table to get out of the rain. I understand the weather is out of their control, however the REAL ISSUE was when we had to get up and walk inside to get our check (mind you we waited 15 mins for it and got soaking wet doing so) there were tables open, big salad plates, nice glassware & drinks, well presented food and everything we WERE looking forward to yet did NOT receive or even offered to be seated inside! So just FYI, if you make reservations do not expect to be treated well! We were stuck outside, at a backyard picnic, paying "prestigious" steakhouse prices. We were really looking forward to this place but were VERY DISAPPOINTED to say the least. NO THANK YOU! read more

In a town famous for rodeo you'd expect to find a great steakhouse...this is not it. Picked this place off Yelp because of the rating and could not have been more disappointed. It's a cool place with the right atmosphere I was looking for on a first date. But that's where the good stuff ended. The bathroom was filthy and dark. I mean darkly lit like they were going for the romantic lighting even in the men's room---weird The server was a nice gal. The salad would have been great except they drowned it in the dressing. It was like a 10 year-old-kid with a squeeze bottle of dressing went nuts on it. They also piled on a big mushy lump of shredded red onion---a preparation I've never seen before and was very unappealing. I ordered rib eye medium and I got a medium rare filet. Reason I know that is that the gal I was with ordered a medium rare filet and they delivered the same dish. I didn't say anything because I was on a date and didn't want to make the night about how disappointed I was in the restaurant that I chose to begin with. Steaks were tiny. They were lukewarm by the time we got them Apparently it's a local favorite. But it will not be for me the next time I'm back in Pendleton... read more

It's understandable that this restaurant would be unable to manage a large customer base during Round Up. What I didn't understand was why the place wasn't clean. The tired, dusty plastic foliage should go. The flocked red wallpaper has not seen a feather duster in many moons. The food was mediocre at best, and the general grubbiness of the place had me looking for sanitizer. If eating here is a tradition, I'd recommend seeking out new habits. Two thumbs down. read more

Four of us came for dinner. SO disappointed. Really looked forward to trying this place. Was impressed with the way it looked inside, and the rose decoration on the table. Service was REALLY slow the whole time. First they brought my husband soup instead of salad. The clam chowder I ordered was bland, but edible. (Roosters restaurant has way better on Fridays ) My Son ordered the tomahawk and said it was delicious. I am thankful that his meal was good, because he is in the Military, leaving the country in a few days, and we wanted to treat him and his wife to a special meal. Her ribeye looked great, but after dinner it appeared that she had not ate much. She stayed it was mostly fat. My husband and I ordered prime rib- medium. The meat was undercooked, so stringy we could hardly cut it, and was tasteless. I decided to keep mine ( pictured) because I was hungry, and then decided to try to throw the rest on my bbq at home, but my husband sent his back. Told the staff that it was raw, and terrible quality. Our bill was $188. They removed my husbands meal, but three of us left hungry. True story, we ended up at McDonald's later in the night, and I fed my prime rib to 3 dogs this morning. We will not return to this place. read more

Well then. Waited a bit to visit this place, but have known the location for decades. Literally. Doesn't seem to have changed much since the 70s. No really, same vibe. The flavors were all correct, the look was right, the smells were right. Had a steak, the rest of the party had a halibut and the duck, everything was amazing. But the soup! Little steak, some veggies, and a whole boatload of great flavor. Pro tip tho, hydrate the veggie plate served with the bread board. The soup alone would get 5 stars. But here's why the restaurant didn't get 5. Remember the decades? It's retro, and that's good, but a steakhouse holding fast to tradition needs a fat guy drinking whiskey at the bar, poker players at, at least one, table, and a semi permeable layer of cigar smoke hovering near the ceiling. None of that was evident. So the table lighting was just dated. The dark vibe was contrary to the majority of current steakhouses I have visited. There was probably enough light, but the dark decor and shadow wells were pretty intense. So the lost star was for the vibe. But the service was great. Attentive staff, knowledgeable staff, cook did a good job, bartender sounded like she knew what she was doing. Pricing was not what I would expect from a menu with a smaller selection of steak (whatever happened to the Delmonico?), a little steep, but prices are up everywhere. The seating was nice, it is welcome to sit in a restaurant that doesn't need a shoehorn to get in the booth. A great place for a date night/occasion, but pricing might limit my understandable desire to return frequently. read more

We stopped into Virgil's on our overnight in Pendleton. It's a cute place with a super friendly staff. The salad was topped with a flower and was fresh greens and candied walnuts. We also tried the Seafood Chowder, which was tasty. My cutie and I both had the Flat Iron Steak special and it was a nice meal. The inside has a main dining area in the bar area and then more seating in the back. We sat up in the main dining room, which is dark, and themed with horses, western tack and a warm red and dark colors. It's a little like a speakeasy sort of feel, someone else said old western bordello, I'd second that too. Our server was lovely, very friendly and willing to share her thoughts on the menu. There is also a good selection of local types of wines, I enjoyed a Walla Walla Malbec. We were overall very happy and would recommend Virgil's to others. read more

Don't let the dark food photos and red velvet walls deter you -- this place is awesome. It's just dark. I needed my phone light to read the drink menu. ;-) We were on our way home to Hood River, OR when we stopped here to have a bit of a celebratory dinner. We normally stop for cheap local eats like tacos and brew pubs, but wanted just a little more. We wanted steak. And we came to the right place. Service was outstanding! I had a Cabernet which the restaurant had partnered on with a local winery in the town of Echo, WA. My husband and I ordered different steaks, but done "Oscar" style, which was topped with dungenesse crab, bacon, and cheddar. It could have done without the cheese. Nonetheless, the baked potato and accompanying seasonal carmelized brussel sprouts were soooo good. The starter salad is made perfectly, with spring greens, fresh veggies and homemade dressing. Just had the worst dining experience ever.....and on Valentines to boot. Even though my husband had made reservations weeks ago and we arrived 5 minutes early, we were not greeted very warmly by the owner. We then were seated at a nice booth set up for two. Then suddenly the owner appeared and said we were in the wrong place as that booth had been specifically reserved by someone else and she moved us to a table up against an open stairway that had heavy traffic and dust as people ran up and Down. We should have gotten up and left then but we didn't. Turns out it must have been good friends as the owner came and sat with them. Our much overpriced meal had entrees that were good (I had halibut and husband had filet mignon) but the starch was boiled rice without any seasoning and the vegetable was roasted Brussels sprouts (which I usually love) that were burned soggy and just terrible! This place is amazing! I went out by myself to enjoy the evening and all the ladies that served me were fantastic and super nice! They were well informed and seemed like they really liked what they were serving. I appreciated the honesty! The walls are amazing-with red velvet and tapestries covering every inch. The ambience is dark, sensual and even a touch medieval. The lighting is slim but i didn't have any issues. Lots of antiques and a very old feel. The tables were set beautifully and it made the night feel even more elegant. The food was amazing. I had the steamed clams as an appetizer and the vegetarian pasta as my entree. Both items came out perfect. I'm usually a stickler on how clams are cooked but they prepared them wonderfully. I was nervous about trying this place as I am from out of town and have never gone before, but this will defiantly be someplace I would highly recommend for a night out for drinks or a date. Last Friday I had an experience here that most infamous yelpers dream of to rip an establishment a new one. But after what happened, I've been beat. Never before have I been to a restaurant that exhausted me so bad that it scarred me from going to any restaurant ever again. I have no energy for articulation, so I'll just give a laundry list. Had a long wait even with reservations. Sat us outside in the cold away from kitchen, food, anything. (Have a cold now, so thanks.) Took 1.5 hr to get WATER... to get WATER!!! (waiter laughed in our faces when we ask for bread or water, as if that wasn't gonna happen.) Took 3 hr to get food. Crab cakes were sized for suckers with fat wallets. They dared to charge us full price after all the above.... screw this joint. read more

The staff is always friendly and very attentive, your drinks are never empty. They are always good at recommending things to try!! The food is wonderful, I absolutely love the salad that you get before your meal, it's a beautiful presentation with an edible flower on it. The rib-eye steak is so delicious always cooked to perfection and well seasoned. This is five stars for Pendleton; it would be four in a larger city. It's a good place for a "fancy" dinner out when you're in the area. I imagine it gets slammed during the Roundup, since there are not a ton of tables, but it was just fine when we went. I went with the family when we were passing through, and had a really good meal. Son had the coconut prawns off the kid's meal, and figured out he was not a huge fan of coconut prawns. Not the restaurant's fault; they were prepared properly, so no issue. Daughter had the linguini with clams, which had a ton of clams, and was really great. Outstanding prep! Wife had the Steak Diane, which was also excellent...prepared exactly as ordered...and I had the prime rib, medium rare. They did a great job ensuring the meat was prepared as ordered, not overcooked. Salads were generous and had an edible flower on top...very pretty! I had the clam chowder, which was good, but I'd probably have a salad next time. The chowder had its fair share of clam, but just wasn't quite the way I personally like it. Service was about average...probably as good as it gets in a small town. Well intentioned, but execution sometimes suffered. For example, I ordered a Martini, but was served a Dirty Martini ("here's your Dirty Martini"). Hey, c'mon...listen up! Not hard... Also, the layout is unusual...very narrow, all tables about three feet from the long bar. I'd recommend a table closer to the back, since if you're near the door, it can get drafty and distracting with the door opening and closing all the time. Finally, prices were more than fair for the quality of food served. I'd definitely return if seeking a decent meal in Pendleton...it's a good meal, for a fair price, and I suspect this is one of the two best (if not *the* best) in town. read more

We have made a tradition of eating here our last night of the Pendleton Roundup for the past 6 years. But tonight will be our last dinner here. The halibut dinner ($36)was pretty good as well as the pork shank($29) and lasagna ($28)The bread served was a bread stick cut into 4 pieces(no joke). The dinner salad was lettuce, shredded carrots and dressing. The coupe de gras was the 2 inch square of bread pudding and the runny lemon mousse in a 4-5 inch tall sorbet cup for $8 each. Oops I forgot the drinks in plastic cups a Pendleton and water which came out as Pendleton and coke and margarita. The bill for 4? $205 Good service though read more

my first experience at cimmiyottis was incredible. I am not from Pendleton and really appreciated the historic features of this restaurant. My friend and I sat at the bar and had gabe as our bartender. Drank the best cocktails and had great conversation! Bartender had a cool vibe! Watched him create fire/smoke over whiskey glasses and was cool to see how informative he was about each kind of whiskey. Even surprised me with a birthday dessert and dessert cocktail. Ate the filet mignon and was a little skeptical of only getting a fork and butter knife but it cut through SMOOTH! Finished my entire plate. I will be returning for the next birthday 10/10 experience. read more

I was taken here for my Birthday last year and it was the best meal I had ever had, I decided to take my husband and my parents as we all have Birthdays in Sept and I can honestly say it wasn't good at all. We were one of the first at the Cimmiyotti's and our server was wonderful, atmosphere was wonderful however food was lack luster. Scallops were gritty and the mashed potato's had zero flavor and cold. The only thing that was truly delicious was the Blue cheese bacon dip. OK, why oh why did I not find this place sooner? This is by far some of the best food in Eastern Oregon! The warm and friendly staff certainly help and the setting is great, but honestly the food here is fantastic. Great old West decor, intimate and friendly. A time gone by sense of service makes this place stand out through out meal. From being greeted and seated to leaving you feel welcomed. The food is really amazing. Great salads and you can add crab for next to nothing. Steaks are, as they should be in this part of the state, perfection. But these were treated with such care and the sauces were balanced and still weeks later on my mind. The wine list is great and has some great local options. All of this comes with a price that is about 25-40% less than the other steakhouse intown that we will not be going to anymore after discovering Virgils. I think the only reason more people havent found Virgils is that it is listed as a Lounge here not a restaurant. We can not wait for our next trip to Pendleton and to Virgils. read more

Yelpsop's Fables "The casual chameleon" One winter's evening in December, a chameleon entered a bar. More than a bar, actually. A steakhouse and restaurant with red velvet wallpaper and leather booths and an elegant display of liquor bottles adorning one side. It was cowboy sushi night, and the chameleon was one of a handful of patrons who had come in from the cold to sample the menu offerings. The chameleon, who was of not from Pendleton but simply passing through, started with bacon-wrapped dates and a glass of Sierra Nevada pale ale. He then moved on to a seaweed salad and a cowboy sushi roll with medium rare slices of beef tenderloin. Yum! It was so quiet, warm, and inviting inside that the chameleon decided to stay a little longer. He ordered a second beer, then a black coffee, and a glass of Pendleton whiskey. He was happy. A little drunk, perhaps, but happy. He sauntered outside and walked back to his B&B bedroom, slept well and deeply, and drove the next day to Bend, where his adventure continued. (Time passes). The following summer, in mid-August, the chameleon returned to Pendleton, and to Cimmiyotti's. It was a Friday night, the Main St farmers market had just ended, and the bar and tables inside were packed! The chameleon was surprised by the crowd, but he remained casual, and he blended in. Because blending in is what chameleons do best. He waited a few minutes for a place to open up at the bar, which was hopping. Drinks of all sorts materialized with incredible speed as a beautiful blond bartender and her team filled order after order while making small talk with the men and women sitting on the barstools. It was quite the performance, and the chameleon entertained himself by observing all the action. This time, it was not cowboy sushi night, so the chameleon selected a house salad and 12 oz. steak, requesting extra vegetables (summer squash and baby bok choy) instead of a starchy side. On this occasion, the beer on draft was Anchor Steam, which was fine by him. He enjoyed the greens, the beer, and the medium rare steak, which did indeed live up to Pendleton's high standards. The meal was excellent. Meanwhile, the crowd continued to gather, inside and out. It was Friday night, after all. It was exciting, but also a striking contrast from his previous visit. Older, and perhaps a little wiser, the chameleon opted not to order a second beer or a whiskey this time. Instead, he went back to the B&B, got a good night's rest, and woke up the next morning at 6 am to go jogging along the 3 mile Pendleton River Parkway. Then, after breakfast, he hit the road, en route to Missoula (it was a long day). He'd been treated well at Cimmiyotti's twice now. And he was already thinking about the next time. Moral: Don't expect lighting to strike twice. It won't. If you enjoy a place the first time, be cool when you return for Round 2. Blend in, feel the vibe, change your mind, and tip well. We had the steak Diane and the lamb dinners. The SD was very good, cooked to perfection! The lamb was awesome! Three pyramids of chops, 8 in all, cooked perfectly medium rare, so much I had two chop to go! 3 glasses of wine and a top shelf bourbon all for $104! Service was top notch! Yeah its dark and the restrooms are in and the back , and group tables might be cozy, but this place has been there since 1959! Get over it! Awesome food and service! I've spent double for less quality! If I lived closer this would be my #1 choice for a top notch dinner! read more

My wife and I came here for our date night on Friday. As a former executive chef and front of the house couple we dine with a particularly critical eye. Decor: Dated but clean. As they are obviously going for that "old school" look, dated works in their favor. As I always do I checked out the restrooms as a health and safety check. Restrooms are easy to clean, kitchens are not, and they let you see the restrooms. These were clean and fresh smelling. Service: We waited a short while before being seated on the upper level. The ambience would probably have been nice, but the hostess sat a couple (us), obviously dressed up for an intimate dinner, next to a boisterous ten+ top of coworkers rather than at one of available tables in a less noisy section. Sometines there is no choice but to seat near a large group, but on this night there were many open tables all over tge place. Our server was polite, attentive and well spoken. She was knowledgeable about the menu and specials, and presented them well. Food: We started with the crab cake appetizer. It was tasty but still cool in the center. I typically do not order steak at restaurant as I can cook a steak just as good, if not better, for a quarter of the price. With that in mind, I had the Clam Chowder and Jambalaya. The Clam Chowder was rich, cramy and smooth with just the right amount of potatoes, vegetables and clams. The Jambalaya was good but not great. While not bland, as such, the flavor was two dimensional and too heavy on the Thyme. Additionally shrimp that is not being used for presentation should have the tails removed otherwise the guest must paw through their food, and get their hands covered in sauce, to remove them. My wife also tends to order thing she doesn't get at home. With three kids who hate mushroom,s that means she had the Steak Diane with a baked potato, the roasted brussel sprouts and a salad with a yogurt dressing. The salad was good but slightly heavy on the candied nuts. The steak was good but under cooked. Fortunately my wife ordered incorrectly so it turned out for the best. Other then that the steak was good and the sauce tasty. The potato was pretty standard but the roasted brussel sprouts were amazing. For dessert we had the chocolate toffee creme brulee. I love creme brulee but my wife has always been indifferent. This was so awesome she is officially a convert. The custard was smooth and unseperated, the toffee chips were exquisite and the crust was browned to perfection. Drink: The wine list was decent and varied. We had a bottle of the '09 Helix Syrah from Reininger. We intended on ordering a bottle of wine but apart from exotics, there should be at least one selection from every varietal that can be ordered by the glass and Syrah, though good, is hardly exotic. The evening was pleasant, the service excellent and dessert spectacular. Overall a very solid evening. I would recommend dining here. read more

We love this place. We went there tonight to celebrate our anniversary. We had fresh fried oysters, bacon wrapped dates, savory and Caesar salads, Ribeye and bread pudding. Everything was delicious. The service was fabulous. We will return. My husband was quite impressed with the owner as we sat down he had spotted some dried food on the linen tablecloth, he was accessing the situation, she noticed, and immediately seated us at another table.
