Stumbled in by accident on a sunday afternoon with 3 friends after an event in the area, and was incredibly surprised. First off, free parking. Have you ever heard of that in JC? Nope? well this diner has it. Secondly, even after the price increases, the prices of items are incredibly modest. Third, the food was good. classics, but hit the spot. I grabbed the egg n cheese on a roll. I've been coming to VIP Diner for about 15 years on and off its an old school Diner open 6am-8pm. They have breajfast all day with omelets, french toast, over easy eggs etc plus lunch beef or turkey burgers deluxe with fries, chocolate shakes and so much more. Its a relaxing place to have a meal with friends or your date. Light FM music in the background. VIP Diner is a few blocks from the JSQ Path station and shopping. So many yummy deserts but my favorite is their homemade warm Apple Pie a La Mode (with vanilla ice cream) and signature bottomless coffee. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! My wife and our two children got there a little after 7 not knowing they close at 8, so instead of telling us that they were closing soon, they sat us down, took their time bring out our food and then at 7:50PM a women came over and told us they were closing in 10 minutes and we had to rush to eat our food. Then they charge us 20% gratuity of $14. How do you charge gratuity for a party of 4 when 2 of them are under 10? absolutely horrible customer service, what diner closes at 8PM which is like still dinner time for some people. Horrible service, horrible management. I moved to Jersey City 14 years ago and it was open 24 hours and the staff was friendly and courteous. Ordered eggs Benedict. 25 minutes later I had cold warm home fries, a little hollandaise Sauce and the egg was hard boiled. The parking lot may be the biggest draw for this diner. Other than that it is your typical fare. The chicken caesar wrap was ok. Its a diner so all good. The onion rings were oily so not my cup of tea. The chicken wings were surpringly solid. I liked the crunch they had. They were served dry with sauce on side. They have been sold and they call themselves V-I-P Restaurant / Barshay's. I feel the new owners presented themselves badly. They reopened to soon. They did not have enough experienced staff. They had 2 waitresses on duty, no cashier no bus boy. The waitresses were slow and very inattentive. The waitresses told told me the cook is new and not experienced in styles of cooking. I waited so long for my order I was almost going to leave and pushed a waitress to go in to the kitchen and get my food. she went and finally came out with my food. coffee was served in an expresso cup and I had to chase after a waitress for more coffee.one gulp and cup was empty. I was pet sitting in jersey city and was excited to get some blintzes as a treat as no where in my area at home has them. I added cheese grits and a 3 cheese omelette with bacon. They didn't send the blintzes and just crossed them out in the reciept without calling me, asking if I wanted something else, or informing uber eats so I had to reach out. The omelette with added bacon didn't add the bacon IN the omelette so it's just a cheese omelette with two flaccid pieces of bacon laid on top. Who doesn't love going to a good diner every once in a while? Came for lunch last weekend and stuck to a classic diner option: triple decker sandwich. We tried both the turkey & bacon and the chicken salad & bacon. Both were good, but the chicken salad was maybe a little heavy on the celery. Bacon though was extra crispy, exactly how I like it. Honestly, my favorite part of the meal were maybe the fries though. Perfectly crispy outside and soft inside, they couldn't have been better. It's a no frills diner, old-school looking on the inside and out, that churns out classic diner fare. Like other diners, there's a daily specials menu and you can get a hardy lunch on the cheap if you order off this menu. It's an OK option for lunch if you work in the area; I've gone here a couple of times with co-workers. I'll order sandwiches and fries here. The curly fries are really good here. I also liked their spinach pie. When I ate meat, the gyro platter was my jam! It's very good. The only thing that I don't order at VIP are breakfast dishes. I'm a fan of breakfast-served-all-day, but I'm not really into the eggs/omelets dishes here. They aren't bad, but they don't appeal to my taste buds. The booths are pretty comfortable. Greek-run diner except for the prompt and courteous service we experienced during breakfast. Even our food almost came faster than the time it took for us to go though the large menu. Breakfast was typical diner food. My Corned Beef Hash & Eggs came with home fries and toast for about $8. Friends ordered other standard breakfast fare. Even though we all enjoyed our selections, the portions were so generous that none of us could finish. What will definitely keep me coming back is their free parking lot with wide spaces that help prevent door dings. Without that it would be almost impossible to find street parking nearby. It's just a nice, comfortable establishment with waitstaff who care about you feeling comfortable, The western omelette, which is my go-to for NJ diner food, was tasty, alongside some good potatoes. The server I had, Bob, could pass for an Ivy League Professor and I'm sure he's got a lot of stories to tell if he wasn't waiting on other people in the diner. First time ordering pick up from this restaurant. When I walked in there was no one absolutely no one to help you in the front- no hostess, cashier, waitresses. I stood there for 2 mins by myself. In the restaurant were only 2 customers. If you're looking for a quiet place to be by yourself this is for you. At a time where I expected more people there it was kind of dead. When someone finally came out of the kitchen there was no greeting or anything. The waitress who did help me was pretty nice. As for the food, it was not good at all. I ordered 2 things- calamari and sirloin steak. They used fried chicken batter to fry the calamari and it came out in large clumps all stuck together. The sirloin steak was even more disappointing.
