I come here every sunday morning or afternoon for breakfast. I usually call ahead to pick up and the food is usually ready 15 minutes after the order is placed. Today I ordered pork sausage, scrambled eggs and home fries. Sometimes I get cheese grits but the consistency isn't there with it so my safe option is home fries. The breakfast platter comes with toast and it cost less than $12. The burgers here are okay too but the plain cheesecake I would not recommend. The atmosphere is bustling with people and attentive servers and it has an old school feel to it. They also have specials if you dine in so go give it a try. read more

We go here every Christmas with my in laws. The staff is amazing. ( Martha) and others. The food is great. And the place is well kept. I've only gotten breakfast but I bet the lunch and dinners are just as good. It's an old school look and brings you back in time. read more

Stumbled in by accident on a sunday afternoon with 3 friends after an event in the area, and was incredibly surprised. First off, free parking. Have you ever heard of that in JC? Nope? well this diner has it. Secondly, even after the price increases, the prices of items are incredibly modest. Third, the food was good. classics, but hit the spot. I grabbed the egg n cheese on a roll. They toasted the roll - game changer! egg n cheese were cooked just right! the side of breakfast potatoes were simple, but cooked well. there was a big serving, and little to no peppers and onions. VIP Diner Sip Ave Journey Square I just had an exchange with one of the waitress today before 10am I was sitting on the table for a while and then another customer came. She by passed me. That is why I asked one of the waitress if that waitress is BLIND I don't believe she didn't see me that is a dumb excuse I don't know how the owner trained his staff why they go by RACE? I've been coming to VIP Diner for about 15 years on and off its an old school Diner open 6am-8pm. They have breajfast all day with omelets, french toast, over easy eggs etc plus lunch beef or turkey burgers deluxe with fries, chocolate shakes and so much more. Its a relaxing place to have a meal with friends or your date. Light FM music in the background. VIP Diner is a few blocks from the JSQ Path station and shopping. So many yummy deserts but my favorite is their homemade warm Apple Pie a La Mode (with vanilla ice cream) and signature bottomless coffee. Sure it could use a renovation its classic afterall but if you support your local Diner it will support you! read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! My wife and our two children got there a little after 7 not knowing they close at 8, so instead of telling us that they were closing soon, they sat us down, took their time bring out our food and then at 7:50PM a women came over and told us they were closing in 10 minutes and we had to rush to eat our food. Then they charge us 20% gratuity of $14. How do you charge gratuity for a party of 4 when 2 of them are under 10? absolutely horrible customer service, what diner closes at 8PM which is like still dinner time for some people. Horrible service, horrible management. I moved to Jersey City 14 years ago and it was open 24 hours and the staff was friendly and courteous. The same bus boy who still works there since I have been coming deserves better than the people running the show now. read more

I ordered Fish & grits with cheese with rye toast & beef sausage. It was excellent. I saved the toast and sausage for later. They gave 3 pieces of whiting fish along with the grits. Tasty fresh and delicious. I would order again read more

Please be careful if you want to go to this restaurant and park your car in their parking lot. When you park your car please make sure you go straight to the restaurant First without stopping by other place first, ex, meet up your friend first and go together to the restaurant or ATM machine. Otherwise, they will call EZ Towing to tow your car as soon as you get off your car and leave the parking lot. They have EZ Towing people stand by in the parking lot and ready to rob your money. read more

Ordered through Uber Eats. Got a call informing me one item was unavailable, ask for another, same reply. I was able to get eggplant parmigiana which was a plentiful portion and very tasty. I will order again but maybe I should call first to see what is available. read more

The parking lot may be the biggest draw for this diner. Other than that it is your typical fare. The chicken caesar wrap was ok. Its a diner so all good. The onion rings were oily so not my cup of tea. The chicken wings were surpringly solid. I liked the crunch they had. They were served dry with sauce on side. The place needs a spruce up but the parking is key. Cool spot! read more

I ordered the T-bone steak I think was $25. I know it's a diner. Seemed like staff included waiter, cook, owner. The t-bone was smaller than the palm of my hand. Maybe my mistake but you get a pretty good steak at outback, longhorn, roadhouse, chilis, etc for like $30-40. Not satisfying. Left hungry. Waisted time and money. I won't be back. read more

Where should I start.... I was seated but didn't see the server for 10 minutes. Ordered eggs Benedict. 25 minutes later I had cold warm home fries, a little hollandaise Sauce and the egg was hard boiled. I wanted have more sauce as everything was dry but waitress was not seen for 25 minutes. Another customer was listening something on the phone on loud volume too...there is a lot of potential here. Location and nice people but not properly managed. This diner does loose money 100% and sooner be replaced with an apartment building. read more

Came here today, thank God I didn't let the bad reviews convince me. This place is awesome! I would highly recommended coming in for breakfast, they keep things simple and delicious. The service is great, the host doesn't really greet you , but the servers are so sweet! Had the turkey triple decker, OMG so good. The coleslaw is slamming, bf had the western omelette he says it was delicious. Will def come back to this diner! Tracy was our server and she was so kind and sweet. read more

They have been sold and they call themselves V-I-P Restaurant / Barshay's. I feel the new owners presented themselves badly. They reopened to soon. They did not have enough experienced staff. They had 2 waitresses on duty, no cashier no bus boy. The waitresses were slow and very inattentive. The waitresses told told me the cook is new and not experienced in styles of cooking. I waited so long for my order I was almost going to leave and pushed a waitress to go in to the kitchen and get my food. she went and finally came out with my food. coffee was served in an expresso cup and I had to chase after a waitress for more coffee.one gulp and cup was empty. They need to close and reopen when they hire enough of experience staff to serve customers fast. read more

Can anyone on here enlighten me. I know I am old now but many years back this place was good. Not sure if under new management. My friend did tell me it was up for sale in the past. Maybe because of Covid things went down. So I ordered a piece of strawberry cheesecake. It took two bites to realize it wasn't so good. You know it's not creamy and thick tasting. It may have been sitting behind that glass too long. I mean I really wanted a piece and was so sad it didn't taste good. I just chucked it in the trash. My friend tells me " oh maybe it is old". I was pet sitting in jersey city and was excited to get some blintzes as a treat as no where in my area at home has them. I added cheese grits and a 3 cheese omelette with bacon. They didn't send the blintzes and just crossed them out in the reciept without calling me, asking if I wanted something else, or informing uber eats so I had to reach out. The omelette with added bacon didn't add the bacon IN the omelette so it's just a cheese omelette with two flaccid pieces of bacon laid on top. The grits look fine I guess I dont have high hopes and am really disappointed in my food. I wouldn't order from here again or recommend them to anyone looking for food in the area. read more

Who doesn't love going to a good diner every once in a while? Came for lunch last weekend and stuck to a classic diner option: triple decker sandwich. We tried both the turkey & bacon and the chicken salad & bacon. Both were good, but the chicken salad was maybe a little heavy on the celery. Bacon though was extra crispy, exactly how I like it. Honestly, my favorite part of the meal were maybe the fries though. Perfectly crispy outside and soft inside, they couldn't have been better. Since I was a little kid, I've always seen VIP on the corner of Sip and JFK. Over the years, I've gone here for quick bites to eat. It's a no frills diner, old-school looking on the inside and out, that churns out classic diner fare. Like other diners, there's a daily specials menu and you can get a hardy lunch on the cheap if you order off this menu. It's an OK option for lunch if you work in the area; I've gone here a couple of times with co-workers. I'll order sandwiches and fries here. The curly fries are really good here. I also liked their spinach pie. When I ate meat, the gyro platter was my jam! It's very good. The only thing that I don't order at VIP are breakfast dishes. I'm a fan of breakfast-served-all-day, but I'm not really into the eggs/omelets dishes here. They aren't bad, but they don't appeal to my taste buds. The booths are pretty comfortable. I rarely make it to Jersey City and even less to Journal Square, but VIP Diner might bring me back more times. There's nothing really VIP about the (surprise!) Greek-run diner except for the prompt and courteous service we experienced during breakfast. Even our food almost came faster than the time it took for us to go though the large menu. Breakfast was typical diner food. My Corned Beef Hash & Eggs came with home fries and toast for about $8. Friends ordered other standard breakfast fare. Even though we all enjoyed our selections, the portions were so generous that none of us could finish. What will definitely keep me coming back is their free parking lot with wide spaces that help prevent door dings. Without that it would be almost impossible to find street parking nearby. Good diner food. Don't go in expecting anything you wouldn't expect from a normal diner (no frills). Great breakfast, good cheeseburgers, the besst fries and milkshakes, cheap drinks, regular laid-back service, good prices, okay pasta and the weirdest take on nachos that I've ever seen. Overall, great place for starchy food after a long day, something to stuff your face with before going home and passing out in a drunken exhausted stupor. read more

Service: we had bob and he was very attentive to our needs! Very kind sir and always made sure we had enough water and made fun jokes! Food: I got the chicken panini with fries and it was tasty! Just a bit dry (but chicken breast) and the bread is pita, isn't ur typical bread. The pancakes were crispy. Corn beef was really well cooked against the grill ! Portions are HUGE , def can share. Maybe this review will bring this Diner's rating up to a 3.1, which would be a start. It's currently a month after Christmas, yet on a Monday afternoon in there, it felt like a Christmas morning when you still believed in SC. It's just a nice, comfortable establishment with waitstaff who care about you feeling comfortable, The western omelette, which is my go-to for NJ diner food, was tasty, alongside some good potatoes. The server I had, Bob, could pass for an Ivy League Professor and I'm sure he's got a lot of stories to tell if he wasn't waiting on other people in the diner. Thanks to the VIP for a good meal that helped me reset for a new week, and a cold February. read more

One of the tastiest Croque Monsieurs I've had, including the ones I enjoyed living in France, and certainly bigger than its Manhattan counterparts. The Crispy Shrimp & Bacon Sandwich was also a pleasant taste bomb of basil, dill & cucumber remoulade, tomatoes, and, of course, bacon. Bottom line: Skinner's offers a brunch that's tastier and more affordable than many NYC joints. When you're hungover on a Sat morning, this might be the best place for you.

Let me start out by saying this diner has been in jersey city forever. My friends and I frequented this diner about 10 years ago after a hard night of drinking and having fun. Those days this place was more 4 out of 5 starts sadly, my most recent experience did not go that well. I go in for breakfast last Saturday morning and I get seated quickly by a woman who seems nice enough. She gives me a few minutes with the menu as expected and is ready to take my order. I order an orange juice and the western omelette which is served with home fries. My food is out quick and this is perhaps the problem. As soon as my order arrives i look at my omelette and realize whoever put the word omelette on the menu was using it rather loosely. What i really received was just scrambled eggs with everything mixed carelessly in together. When you think of an omelette you think of a roll of egg wrapped around all the stuffing so perfect and neat you can actually pick it without anything falling out-- not flat scrambled eggs! To top everything off the eggs were not even totally done and were watery! I wish i could say that the rest of the meal went well however that nice lady waitress did not check back with me to see if i needed anything. I guess they have a regular group of costumers who get all the attention when they go in because i did hear my waitress going around asking others if they needed anything and chit chat with other diners about their children. I realize i am not in there often anymore but heck is my money not green?! I finally have to yell at her across the room while shes behind the counter to ask her for another beverage. I will say the prices are still reasonable and my side order of home fries was decent. This place has changed a lot and i for one am not happy about it. It really does hurt me to have to write a negative review about this place because i am a life long JC resident and this place and I go way back. I have lived in Jersey City my whole life and boy does the VIP always deliver with their food. The food here is amazing- I would recommend a classic burger with the curly fries and end with a slice of the most awesome cheesecake I have ever tasted!!! Really best ever! Other than that their breakfast options are awesome as well. We come here for breakfast on a regular basis and yet have been disappointed with what we order. And the best part is its a quick walk from the path journal square station-- definitely recommend this if you're in the jersey area! read more
