What an awesome cafe! My fiancé and I have been past here tons of times in the past couple of years and finally came in for breakfast. I had a the French Toast, which was so big and fluffy -- even had to take some home! The iced coffee was really fresh and their staff is super friendly, being personable and courteous! Will definitely come back to try their other goodies!

This place was packed for a reason. We really enjoyed the food, Gussy's had a ton of options from pastries to breakfast sandwiches. I ordered an Americano which was excellent. I will definitely go back and try something else. The only complaint was how loud it was with all the people. The seating was limited.

Chipotle Sunrise, Goin' Back to Cali, Matcha Strawberry
    Maris C.

Food: We got the Goin' Back to Cali, the Chipotle Sunrise Sandwich, and the Matcha Strawberry. Before ordering the guy at the counter said the ciabbata bread was massive, but when the Cali came I was disappointed by the size as the presentation made it dinky and I was expecting more height in the sandwich. We had different standards of what 'massive' meant. Flavor was still okay (some might think it's bland if they prefer saltier) as the pesto mayo and avocado gave it a bit of moisture and creaminess to the grilled white chicken to make it less dry. If it had some arugula, I think it would have made it better. As for the Chipotle Sunrise, it looked pretty decent but that was because the arugula gave it the height, but if you looked at it it was just egg, cheese, sauce/chili, and arugula. The chili sauce was spicy and sour which we dont think went well with the sandwich. If it had another protein instead it would have been better. The strawberry matcha was nothing special and for the price was expecting it to be larger and in a nicer container as we saw someone else with a larger and nicer cup who ordered a matcha with ube foam. Overall for the price you pay, it was not worth. Maybe we got the wrong items. Then again, it's Jersey City. Service: The good thing about this place is that you order at the counter and you don't have to pay tip for sit down. Ambiance was simple and clean. If you're pressed for time, this spot is casual enough to grab a bite to eat.

Friendly, kind and fast service, good coffee and a fantastic looking food menu. What's not to love. There is SO much space in here, the next time I want a spot in the area to pull out my laptop and get some work done, I will need to remember Gussy's. My oat milk latte (the usual) was strong and delicious and perfect on a long walk paired with a hot day. It feels a little corporate, but not really in a bad way. But it is certainly not a hole in the wall. With lots of space and a big food and drink menu, I'd definitely check it out.

The name of this place always cracks me up. GUSSY anyway . This was my 2nd time going in here since they opened. I decided to give them a second chance since the first visit didn't go well. I got the breakfast platter with their cold brew pumpkin spice. The whole meal came out to $21 yikes ! I know extremely expensive but you have to understand it's downtown jersey city. EVERYTHING is expensive so, sometimes you gotta suck that up. My issue with the price is that the taste didn't match. The coffee was great but the food was a standard meal. Turkey bacon, sunny side up eggs, toast, and home fries. Truly nothing spectacular but not bad. The space is large and cozy. Very hipster new york vibes to it. It's wheelchair accessible. Has high chair for kids. Great picture taking spots , plenty of seats and a great variety of food/desserts. The staff were super friendly even for it being 7am in the morning lol and whoever was cooking made our food super fast and even brought it out to us. If you're in the area and don't mind the price check this place out . If not for the food then the coffee .

I think they forgot to season my Breakfast Hash. It was REALLY, really bland. Like potato salad at a country club golf tournament bland. And they forgot to add sausage until I was halfway done my bowl--the server came by with the sausage cut up on a separate plate. The Pomegranate Lemonade, on the other hand, was too sweet. Go figure.

A great order at the counter type of breakfast spot -- they also make some good coffee. i ordered the egg florentine which I very much enjoyed, but unfortunately got food poisoning about an hour later. I chalked it up to a fluke & am looking forward to coming back and trying something different

Things they do well: fried eggs, GF options, Caesar salad on GF wrap, GF pancakes, whipped cream, and the flavor on the fried chicken. Things they could improve on: pricing, potato crispness, bacon crispiness, and I didn't really get what made it a churro latte besides the cinnamon flavor. Overall, pretty good though.

Cup Turkey Chili that I had one day

Gussys is a cute cafe that sells both good breakfast and a great lunch. They sell breakfast all day and while I haven't had breakfast there yet, the pancakes look amazing. I've been a few times on my lunch break and the salads are my favorite. I've gotten a Greek Salad with Cajun chicken for the win! The ingredients were fresh and the dressing that the use is pretty good. Also the sweet potato fries are really good. I've also had the pleasure of having their Turkey Chili that doesn't come too often. The turkey chili was amazing however I haven't been able to catch when they have it again. I hope they bring it back! The ambiance is inviting and vibrant which I enjoy. The staff have always been friendly. It is one of my go to spots for lunch!

Tuna Melt, Pesto Chicken Sandwich, & Sweet Potato Fries
    Najwa G.

Gussy's Cafe has some fantastic brunch and lunch items and is worthy of visiting if you're in Jersey City (which I rarely am haha). My friend and I got the tuna melt, pesto chicken sandwich, and sweet potato fries. Everything was affordable, fresh, and tasty- what's not to love? All in all, Gussy's is great.

    The BEC-ky Sandwich Cold Brew
    Barbara C.

Gussy's has been on my list to try for a while, and it did not disappoint!! Ordered the BEC-ky sandwich and a cold brew (one with oat milk). The BEC-ky did not disappoint! Around $9 for the sandwich so a bit pricey, but had great quality ingredients, a perfectly cooked egg, and the bun was delicious! The cold brews were $5 each and solid cold brews. Overall, the prices are a little steep - Worth it for the food, maybe not worth it for the drink. Gussy's does a happy hour from 3-6PM with discounted drinks, so will try then! What sets Gussy's apart is the service - The entire staff was friendly and conversational and the food was brought out quickly! Quite a spacious space for a cafe in the area, with bar/stool seating out the window, some 4 person tables, booths for a larger party, and a couple of two person tables. Decor is chic and clean - with flowers on each table and a fun neon sign!

    Breakfast Burrito
    John Y.

Popped into Jersey to visit a friend & was taken to Gussy's for breakfast. The service was great and they have good vibes. The breakfast burrito was quite delicious (the salsa is really good) and the quantity was above par. They provide a glass jug you can dispense your own water from. The staff is very friendly & helpful. Props to the staff member I saw run out & wipe down the table & floor when someone spilled their coffee. They topped off his coffee too!

We finally had the opportunity to do so on a quiet Easter Sunday. First, the interior looks pretty amazing. A lot of history behind all the architecture and they did a good job preserving it. Because it was raining and chilly, we couldn't see the rooftop, but I can see the appeal. To start, we got an assortment of small muffins for the table. That was a nice touch. They were good too. For brunch, we each ordered omelettes. I got the Jalapeño & Cheddar while my fiancée got the mushroom and spinach omelette. We ended up complementing the items quite well. I did end up enjoying her omelette well. The vegetables were definitely fresh and cooked quite well. My omelette was nice and cheesy, how I like it. The jalapeños didn't have a crazy kick, but enough to satisfy. The potatoes were good too. I was ready to write the place off, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. Skinner's isn't going to win World's Best anything, but it's a solid neighborhood spot with big portions for decent prices. The Buttermilk Pancakes were large, fluffy and satisfying. My Croque Monsieur was perfectly crispy and loaded with delicious melted bechamel, gruyere and prosciutto. One of the tastiest Croque Monsieurs I've had, including the ones I enjoyed living in France, and certainly bigger than its Manhattan counterparts. The Crispy Shrimp & Bacon Sandwich was also a pleasant taste bomb of basil, dill & cucumber remoulade, tomatoes, and, of course, bacon. Bottom line: Skinner's offers a brunch that's tastier and more affordable than many NYC joints. When you're hungover on a Sat morning, this might be the best place for you.
