We stayed for the weekend in the Sonoma area during the winter break holiday recently. There was a popular tapas spot close to our hotel so we wanted to grab picnic food to go before heading out to the wineries. We arrived at Vinoma on a Sunday afternoon. The Argentinian restaurant is located next to a Shell Gas station in a nice small plaza in Rohnert Park. Parking is accessible in the medium size parking lot. We were not able to go inside the restaurant as there was a sign in the front to ring the bell for someone to come to the door and take your order. It was different but the staff were friendly and helpful. Once you order, you wait in your car and they bring your food to you. There are a few tables for dine in on the patio. We ordered a creamy corn empanada, traditional beef empanada, plum & bacon empanada, al pastor empanada, and a bacon egg & cheese empanada. Everything was fresh, authentic, and delicious. My favorite empanadas were the traditional beef and al pastor. Along with the flavorful meat filling, I enjoyed the crispy flaky crust as well. The sauce and pica de gallo provided went well with the empanadas. The presentation of the empanadas in the box was appealing and delightful. I appreciated the little menu in the box to inform you what you ordered. The little flower was a nice touch. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Vinoma. It was nice to try some legit empanadas from an Argentinian restaurant. Price point was fair. Glad we were able to run into this gem in wine country. We hope to be back next time we are in the area. read more

I'm in town every year for a wine event and my friends and I make sure to always have Empanadas from Vinoma. It can be a little confusing to find since it shares space with a gas station. There isn't any indoor seating but they have some tables outside. We take the food to go so it works perfectly for us. There were 9 of us this trip and got a cool variety. The employees are always friendly and the food is packed nicely. There are good assortment of empanadas to choose from. The categories are: meat, vegetarian, vegan, breakfast, and dessert. I pretty much like all the ones I've tried but my favorite is the Steak and Cheese which is steak, American cheese and caramelized onions. Another of my favorites is the Plum and Bacon. It is plums, bacon with fontina and mozzarella cheese; such a good, savory sweet empanada. The Apple Crisp is a great empanada for dessert! I would say 3-4 per person if you are treating it as a meal will work. I definitely recommend! read more

Came at 10:30am on a Sunday. They are on the side of the gas station, and you'll ring the bell at the door to order. They did say they were still warming up their oven upon our arrival, so we didn't get our empanadas until closer to 10:50! Just a note in case you are in a rush. You can order online as well, but it looked like only 11am was available when I looked. The empanadas were on the smaller side, but they were tasty. Buffalo chicken - a bit saltier than the other empanadas, but it was still good. Spicy beef - juicy and tasty. Was more of a mild spice. Al pastor - good taste here as well. I prefer this over the buffalo as it also comes with salsa and aioli sauce. Spinach artichoke - my wife really liked this one. Very filled. Steak and cheese - really hot with melted cheese. Such a hidden gem! We accidentally stumbled on this place as we were heading out of town but will 100% be back next time we're in the area. It's in a bit of an unassuming place next to a gas station but we were blown away with the food and the service. The little boy who took our order at the door took his job very seriously and was kind and offered great recommendations. All orders are baked to order so there was a small wait but the food came out so fresh, flavorful, and delicious! The owner came out with a home-grown flower with our order as well which was a nice touch- you can definitely tell they put a lot of love into what they do. Food- Great selection with some really creative empanada fillings. We ordered 4 of their top 5 popular items: spicy beef, bacon plum, corn cream, spinach artichoke and also ordered two dessert variety - blueberry cobbler and peach empanada. Their corn cream has a good generous portion of corns with balanced texture of creaminess to it. I love their bacon plum empanada. It's really delicious, tasty and the crust was incredibly flaky and crunchy. Ambiance- this is a pickup only store, next to the gas station and you can order ahead of time for pickup. They have 1-2 tables outside if you like to eat on spot. Service- fairly quick and really nice gesture with the two fresh lovely dahlias they provide along with your takeout order. My husband and I just finished eating lunch across the street from this place but needed to get gas, so we stopped at the Shell to fill up. As an avid Yelper, I noticed this place and looked it up, only to find that it has almost 500 reviews and 4.9 stars! So I told my husband that we absolutely must try it! And I'm so glad we did. We stood out front perusing the menu for a few minutes when Brian (owner) came out to see if we had any questions. We talked with him for a few minutes about all the things and he gave us some great recommendations and we placed our order. We waited about 10 minutes or so and he came out with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers (in a drink cup so it fits perfectly in the car cup holder) along with a box of gorgeous empanadas!! I love how they provide you with a menu that also serves as a key so you can determine which empanadas are which. Even though we had literally just eaten lunch and were totally stuffed, we ate the plum and bacon right on the spot so we could at least try a fresh one before getting back on the road to travel to our destination, and I'm so glad that we did! The plum and bacon was the perfect balance of savory with just a hint of sweet - the bacon was crisped to perfection and the cheese was perfectly pull apart melted - such a great snack. We devoured the remaining empanadas for dinner once we got to our hotel and they were the perfect dinner and dessert (we got savory and sweet). Every single one that we tried was great but I think that the traditional and the spicy beef might be my favorite. This entire experience is the reason why I love exploring and being open to what you discover along the way. I'm sure that many people drive right by this place, questioning why a good restaurant would be attached to a gas station. Well, those people are completely missing out. Amazing! Glad this spot is on my way home from work! Everything I got was delicious! I'm not the biggest fan of empanadas, but i've heard so many great things about this place. I figured I needed to give it a try a ham and cheese was my absolute favorite. It is loaded with ham and cheese. That is nice and gooey. Each empanadas need to order and only cost 4.75. It is not doughy but rather, crispy and light and very well stuffed with ingredients you choose on the inside. Staff is super helpful and attentive to its customers. This is my weekly stop on Fridays. Great way to end the week. read more

Finally got to try Vinoma out after always coming by when they were closed. Ordering was convenient. You could either order with someone at their door or order online. We decided to order online as it was more convenient for us and that way we could make a quick run to costco while we waited. We ended up returning twenty minutes later for pickup which the man taking orders playfully reprimanded us that we should have ordered with him since it was our first time there and he would have hooked us up. I appreciated his honesty and playfulness. He quickly brought out our order and we were blown away by their home grown flowers on the box that he gifted to us. People here are amazing. When it came to the empanadas, our favorite one was the traditional beef. The flavors were on point and they were still warm after our 15 minute drive home. First time visiting Rohnert Park and a quick internet search told me that Vinoma was the top rated spot in town. I pulled up 10 minutes before close and was greeted warmly and enthusiastically by Brian. Despite the time, he didn't rush me and was knowledgeable about the menu in terms of flavors, serving size and specials. We saw all the great reviews and decided to give Vinoma a try. We expected something "extraordinary", but unfortunately, it did not turn out that way. First, we were surprised to find there was no indoor seating, and that someone comes out of the door to take your order. It felt strange. Plus, the restaurant shares a parking lot with a gas station. We ordered a dozen: 2 TRADITIONAL BEEF, 2 STEAK & CHEESE, 2 HAM & CHEESE, 2 BUFFALO CHICKEN, 2 AL PASTOR, 2 SPICY BEEF. Our favorite was the Al Pastor. The ham and cheese ones were too salty, and all the rest were either just ok or simply not to our liking. Overall, we were disappointed. We thought we were going to enjoy it based on all the good reviews, but in reality, we were forcing ourselves to finish the food. We have been meaning to try this spot for a long time, and I am SO thrilled we finally did. My partner's parents are both from Argentina, and he agrees this is the best empanada outside of Argentina. We had the corn (so creamy and delicious), chicken (juicy and flavorful), the spicy beef (cut beef, not ground! Perfection.), and the traditional (classic, perfectly done). All were wrapped in the flakiest, tastiest crust. We also got an amazing choripan! If you are in the area and like empanadas or sausage sandwich (choripan) then this is your stop. I had seen this place on yelp for a long time and finally went recently when I was in the area. Very unassuming place located on a gas station property off to the side of the main gas station store. You order from outside or online and pick up your food. They have a few tables to sit. Parking was fine when I went, and just consider it like a typical gas station. The choripan was one of the best sandwiches I have had in ages. The sausage inside was excellent, the bread top notch, and some of the best chimichurri I have had. I also tried some empanadas and those were excellent, and they have a lot of non-traditional as well as traditional flavors. The dulce de leche was top of the market as well. I wish I had gone here before as I have been in this area many times, but now I know how good it is I will definitely be back. read more

This was my second time trying empanadas, and I was SOO glad we landed on Vinoma! We were making a small trip to Santa Rosa when I found Vinoma on Yelp. They were close to the freeway which was super convenient! They're located right next to a gas station, and don't have any indoor seating - only a few tables outside. For ordering, you can either order with them outside or order online. We ended up ordering with them - along the way, we were able to get a few recommendations too. We had the most pleasant experience getting to know a bit about the family that runs the business - props to their cashier! Onto the food: you MUUUST get the spinach artichoke empanada. The choripan is delicious too! The empanadas all had the perfect amount of filling, and you could tell that it was packaged with care. The handmade crust was peerrrfectly flakey. I'm still thinking about all of the empanadas we got to this day! The empanadas are about $3-4 ea. I'd probably follow their recommendation of getting 4-6 per person, because it's easy to scarf them all down in one sitting lol. Vinoma lived up to the hype with meaty filled empanadas worth checking out! On a recent trip up to Santa Rosa, I remember hearing how Vinoma was the number one restaurant on Yelp! So what better way to enjoy Sonoma County area than to try Vinoma?? Attached to a Shell gas station, it is easy to miss Vinoma. But with each being less than $4 and pretty filling, this is a stop worth making! There is a way to order online, but when I got there, there was someone who was taking orders outside. I ordered most of the meat empanadas and was impressed with all of them. A few favorites: Traditional Beef (4.5/5): I thought this was going to be a bit boring by the name, but was pleasantly surprised by the savory spices in the beef balanced with the creamy spanish olive to mellow it out. Plum and Bacon (4.5/5): The sweetness from the plums paired with the crispy salty bacon made for a beautiful bite! One of the more intriguing bites! Buffalo Chicken (4/5): Definitely as described with the punchy sauce mellowed with the cheese. Al Pastor (4/5): The slow roasted pork was nice and tender. It comes with salsa verde and chipotle aioli that really made this bite so interesting. I also loved that it allowed me to use it on the other empanadas :D There are also some sweet empanadas that the person taking the order said was also worth checking out. There are few parking spots in front but may require finding some parking in the gas station if it were to get busy. The outside is not too thick, decent amount of filling, and the food itself is piping hot. This is probably the best food place I have tried in Rohnert park, that felt well worth it. It is so appreciated these are all put in a box instead of a bag so the empanada do not leak but also do not get soggy. Service: 5/5 I ordered to pick up, but the lady who helped us was very kind. Wait time was about 15-20 min. The flowers in water she gave me with the order were a beautiful touch. Ambiance: 4/5 Although there is no seating inside, there are tables outside. We spend about 3 months every year in Argentina and know good empanadas. These are truly exceptional. Some are made in the folded-over style and others are open-faced like tiny quiches. But do understand that this is not a regular restaurant with indoor seating! One can sit outside in the patio when weather permits, take them home or eat in your car like we did. Two of us shared creamy corn, spinach artichoke, chicken pot pie, plum & bacon, apple crisp and peach cobbler. OMG! They were all amazing. My personal faves were the spinach and the plum bacon.
