White Pizza with bald black olives and red onion
    Aubrey F.

Love this spot! Came here years ago on vacation and it was just as good several years later! We ordered for pickup. We got one large pizza with half pepperoni and half sausage. We got another large white pizza with bald black olives and red onion. Amazing! Very flavorful and perfect amount of toppings. So good! Would definitely recommend and come back!

Vinny's Pizza Joint is located in Kitty Hawk at the Dune Shops at Milepost 4.5. My hotel recommended this place and said they had the best pizza on the island. They offer take out and they do deliver. Customer service was friendly. There are photos on the walls inside. I ordered the Big Island pizza with ham and pineapple; some garlic bread; and cinna sticks. The garlic bread was gone before I remembered to get some photos. The pizza was really good quality and delicious. The amount of toppings were generous. The cinna sticks were too sweet for me though so wouldn't order that again. I wish the garlic bread was cut into more pieces too. But this will be on the top of my list for pizza next time I am in the area!

    17" Sausage, Mushroom and Olive

We continue to look for great pizza on the Outer Banks and while we have not really, we found Vinny's to be as good as any and better than most. Vinny's opened in the location where Nag's Head Pizza was briefly. We still have not tried Nags Head because of the distance from where we stay while here. We ordered our usual in 17" size with Italian sausage, olives and mushrooms. The 17" was very generous in size. Some places have sauce that is too sweet but Vinny's was not that way and we liked that. We liked the New York Style crust which was not excessive with toppings all the way to the edge with a modest, delicious chewy rim. To improve the pizza we would like to see a few herbs sprinkled on. The sausage is sliced from link rather than bulk, which we prefer. We like some fennel in Italian sausage and we could not detect any here. It was slightly disappointing that the mushrooms were canned. I am going with four stars which is rounding up for the effort. We have been patronizing Max's since their new ownership and also liked Village in Nags Head. Vinny's gets a slight nod and the location happens to be great for us.

Vinny's Pizza Joint was delicious for the area! We were tired from our drive to OBX and ordered pizza/ subs for dinner. Vinny's made it easy for us to order over the phone! They were super busy on a Saturday night. We could hear the commotions of how busy this joint was that we were glad to get our orders in. It was about a 40 minute wait for our pizzas to be ready for carry out. Staff on the phone were quick and friendly! We ordered 3 different large pizzas and 2 different subs. Pizzas: I would not say that this is a traditional New York style pizza however, it's good for the OBX area. The crust is crispy and chewy. The large pies are big enough to feed a group of people. We had 7 adults, 1 kid and had 6 slices left over for the next day! Treehugger- this pizza was surprisingly delicious! It had basil pesto, onion, spinach, mushroom, and tomatoes. It's a great vegetarian option that has a lot of flavor. Supremo Originale- this pizza is your typical deluxe pizza that you will see at a pizza shop. It had pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, green peppers, and onions. Everything was cooked perfectly! The Big Island- this is a Hawaiian Pizza! I felt like this pizza was a little over cooked compared to the other pies, but still good to eat. The cheese was a little burnt/stiff that maybe there oven was too hot for this pie?? Subs: We loved the bread that was used for these subs. They were thick and crispy without being soggy on the inside. Meatball Sub: this sub tasted like a regular meatball sub with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Glad that there was enough marinara sauce to coat the sandwich and dip into with each bite. Italian Sub: this sub also was standard with ham, salami, and pepperoni. I wish there was more meat stacked into the sub to make it hearty. This was also missing the oil and vinegar combo with Italian seasoning to make this more flavorful. The veggies complimented the sub to give it a balance with the meats. We also ordered Caesar and Greek salads. They were good portions for 1-2 people per order. Overall, my carry out experience was amazing for the Saturday night rush and big order. I didn't see any wings on the menu and my family was a little bummed. I would come back to Vinny's for pizza again!

Rude and unhelpful management. Swearing at a woman in our group for a simple request? Why so angry?

Neither one was worth the money. Everything is expensive anymore when you eat out, I don't mind paying if the food is good. The soup had no signs of fish or seafood in either serving. It tasted like a spicy vegetable soup. It was good but no fish and not worth $9. The Quinoa bowl was average, tomatoes were spongy and tasteless and 3-4 pearl mozzarella balls. How is that $19? Very disappointing. I gave 1 star for our wine and our waitress Emily did an awesome job. She was prompt and took care of all the tables in the dining room. She did a fantastic job ensuring we had everything we needed. It wasn't her fault for the food. We are both locals and wanted a girl lunch, and appreciate the challenges restaurants face. Trio is always busy So not sure why today's food was so poor. I still bought wine at the store, again great shop.

It has always been good, and we definitely won't let this deter us from returning. Ms T had her usual Shrimp basket lunch. The issue was that the shrimp were not cooked through. They were still translucent. We totally understand not wanting to overcook shrimp, but these were not quite done. On the bright side she commented on how good the slaw was. I have been on a kick to try barbecue at restaurants that are not barbecue joints per se, to see if I can find some hidden gems. For example, both Sam & Omie's and Wanchese Marina serve a good barbecue sandwich. Black Pelican, at least on this day, does not. I must say, the serving was huge. This was more than enough for two meals for me. The barbecue was dry and not well flavored. The texture and flavor was more like dried out beef that has been over-roasted. This is not something I would order again here. All that being said, I am leaving the rating for Black Pelican as it is because we have always had good meals here. I accept that it can't be 100% perfect every time and sooner or later we will run into something that is less than stellar. We will continue to return. I just know this not where I will have barbecue and we are sure the shrimp thing was just a one timer.

And the $8.50 Pie we thought we were ordering was average at best. I say, "...we thought we were ordering" because the tags were mixed up in the Pie Case at the front. We were a group of 8 and really no one cared for their food... shame on us for taking a recco, and not reading the reviews. Guy F should be ashamed of himself.

I talked Ms T into trying it again. We just can't handle a big lunch and wanted to avoid leftovers, so decided to split a pickle brined chicken sandwich with fries and an extra side of slaw. The sandwich was OK. To start with it needed more seasoning. How about breaking out the black pepper and garlic powder? The meat was uncharacteristically tough/chewy for chicken breast. I suggest they need to be pounding it to tenderize it and then brine it. It was actually hard for us to cut and eat. It really looked nice, but I think I am done with pickle brined chicken. It just never gets enough brine impact. They make good small caliber fries that were piping hot and the slaw was fine for me. Ms T did not care for it so I got it all. Our food was OK, not stellar. The service was excellent, but I still can't make this better than three stars. I hope to convince her to return for a burger during this trip.
