Wine and beer, pasta, sauces, teas, jams, glassware, olives, crackers, cheese, chocolate.......a foodies dream. After about 25 minutes we were sat. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and ready to work. She was busy with inside and outside tables. We started with the whipped goat cheese and fig jam. Delicious!! They now sell it To Go in the store part. I got the Hot Honey BLT and my friend got the House Grilled Cheese Panini. We both got house salads. Loved that the house salad came with feta cheese. Yes, please. Both sandwiches were good but I really liked the Hot Honey BLT. The Grilled cheese panini was lacking something. I would definitely go back and would recommend.....especially to my foodie friends. Oh....they also have a brunch menu and a kids menu. And it looks like the online menu on the website is not up to date as of October 2026.

For the first time ever, we had some disappointments at Black Pelican. We have lunch or dinner…read moreduring most of our twice-per-year visits to the area. It has always been good, and we definitely won't let this deter us from returning. Ms T had her usual Shrimp basket lunch. The issue was that the shrimp were not cooked through. They were still translucent. We totally understand not wanting to overcook shrimp, but these were not quite done. On the bright side she commented on how good the slaw was. I have been on a kick to try barbecue at restaurants that are not barbecue joints per se, to see if I can find some hidden gems. For example, both Sam & Omie's and Wanchese Marina serve a good barbecue sandwich. Black Pelican, at least on this day, does not. I must say, the serving was huge. This was more than enough for two meals for me. The barbecue was dry and not well flavored. The texture and flavor was more like dried out beef that has been over-roasted. This is not something I would order again here. All that being said, I am leaving the rating for Black Pelican as it is because we have always had good meals here. I accept that it can't be 100% perfect every time and sooner or later we will run into something that is less than stellar. We will continue to return. I just know this not where I will have barbecue and we are sure the shrimp thing was just a one timer.

I went in on a VERY BUSY day and received top notch service right from the get go! The hostess was super polite and respectful despite being obviously extremely busy, we were asking about take out as we are local and sometimes just wanna eat at the house. She said no problem and took our order and said 10-15 minutes. No problem we took a seat at the bar and ordered a couple drinks, the bartender was doing an outstanding job, every single seat was full and he was the only bartender as they were understaffed yet he was doing a phenomenal job getting everyone served in a timely manner can't ask for more from your server.. food was out in just about 10 minutes and we were off.. got home and the order was perfect and delicious. We went out of the way to leave a nice tip because they most certainly deserved it, I felt like I couldn't have tipped enough that particular day as the entire staff up to and including the bar back were just making it happen!! First night- take out. Food was spectacular. I cannot believe how well the seafood lasagna packaged and tasted even after getting it home. Would do that again. The lady at the front wasn't necessarily the warmest person I've ever met. But she did make an effort as we stood there longer to help out. Second night- sit down on the roof. It was the only spot they allowed dogs, which was fine. We were the only people up there which was odd. Our waiter was an absolute champ going up and down those stairs all day. Deserved a large tip. The food was solid but holy smokes were the drinks bad. Like some of the worst mixed drinks I've ever had. If I went again I'd stick to the food. Or just a simple beer.

My friend went to the bar, got two drinks, and simply walked them five feet back over to me. When my friend later went back to the bar to grab napkins and straws, the blonde bartender started berating her and screaming, "I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT!" She even grabbed my friend by the wrist to get her point across. Completely unacceptable. I went over calmly to try to smooth things over and asked her to clarify the rule. Instead, she erupted in my face and put her hand in my face. We were genuinely trying to understand because we were visiting and had never heard of this "2 drink rule." There was absolutely no reason for this level of hostility. Rules can be explained. Customers can be corrected. You do not scream in someone's face or put your hands on them. When we left, I told the guy at the front who collects money and stamps hands what had happened. His response was basically, "Oh yeah, the girl (bartender)? Yeah, sorry." Apparently, this behavior wasn't exactly a surprise. A simple explanation would have been enough. Instead, this bartender completely ruined the vibe and made us feel incredibly unwelcome. Disgusting, hostile, and profoundly unprofessional behavior.
