While the food is delicious, there seems to be nobody that understands how clocks work. I ordered takeout and was told a specific time to pick it up. Then while I waited for over ten minutes after that time, I was given an assortment of time estimates that were less exact but equally inaccurate. But again, great food. Lovely people. read more

First time at Josephine's and goodness we were impressed with all aspects. Friendly Service and great food n drinks. My wife had the spaghetti with meatballs and sausage, she subbed for all meatballs. Meatballs were humongous and tasted great, we had plenty leftovers for meatball subs the next day for lunch. I had the veal parm and it was Amazeballs, huge side of spaghetti and very large piece of veal. The fresh bread was great. Huge wine list and the dirty martini was divine! Another hidden gem in OBX this is my second time eating here and it once again delivered. It's a small place with not a lot of tables and reservations are not taken. Service was fast and friendly. Salads were served cold and fresh crispy. The pasta dishes and sauces were all spot on and authentic. The red sauce was sweet and tasted fresh. I had the combination which had Italian hot sausage. And 2 huge meatballs with sauce. I could barely finish my plate. The meatballs were awesome and stuffed with a small ball of mozzarella cheese (yum) I was not a huge fan of the sausage just my preference not that it was bad. I loved the spice and flavorful but the texture was a larger grind in the casing that breaks apart into crumbles when you eat it. I just prefer a much finer grind in a sausage. The chicken Milanese was breaded crispy as it should be not greasy and delicious. The baked pasta was also spot on. The sausage is just my Personal preference no reflection on the meal at all. It Was a great meal and reasonably priced they were able to seat us in like 45 minutes unlike other places with 1.5-2.5 hour wait times ... Nice job will be back again next year. read more

There is a limited menu which changes every week and it is a very small place that does not take reservations! We came on Sat. night but only waited about 20 minutes even though there were a lot of people waiting. It is worth any wait! What a wonderful dining experience! House wine is only $6. I had pinot nor which was very light and delicious and my hubby had moscato which he enjoyed. We ordered a caprese salad and side salad which bad a very vinegary dressing which i loved. The freshly made bread was warm and served with seasoned oil. We added some pepper and parmesan cheese (which are conveniently on the table) and it was great. I got a pesto tortellini with cream and bolognes sauce with shrimp and my hubby got 2 ginormous meatballs and big piece of sausage with pasta with bolognes sauce. Both were extraordinary and huge portions. Lemoncello and peanut better chocolate cake for dessert! Wonderful service too! It was like we were in Italy for a brief moment! Sorry, just can't give it more than 3 stars compared to everyone else giving it 4 or 5 stars. Based on all the reviews, I can see why there was a line at 445p before their 5p opening. All the tables were filled within minutes of opening. First off, I really enjoyed the ambience of the place. Nice bar and small dining room. Service by Shannon was good. However, it has a very limited menu.... I believe there were only 5 entrees and 4 appetizers options. We did get a very nice house salad... with cold lettuce, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese with a tasty Italian dressing. I ordered Josephine's Meatball and home made sausage in a Bolognese sauce. The dish came out piping out but sorry the 2 meatballs and one sausage were just ok..... nothing special. My wife ordered the Chicken Milanese and it looked and tasted like an Alfredo taste more than Milanese. Also, I found it strange that they give you a nice oil & basil to dip your bread in but they only give you 2 pieces of bread and the Waitress never offered more bread. I went in and placed a takeout order and was told it would be ready in an hour. I showed up an hour later to hot, fresh food ready to go, reasonably priced. The fried ravioli was addictive, the shrimp scampi was very fresh, and the portions of the meatballs in the combo were, to say the least, generous. Service was quick and friendly. They are very popular so be prepared to wait for a table or your takeout order. But the food is absolutely worth the wait. There were four of us on vacation and craved Italian food. We went to one place and it was carry out only and being in Nags Head there weren't any Italian restaurants that the owner of the carry out new of on the island except at the other end of the beach in kitty hawk. It was Josephines. By far the best meal we have had on this vacation. My wife and her girlfriend got the Josephine combo they are pictured here, I got the veal parm and my friend got the chicken saltimbocca. The food was so good it should have been illegal. Probably my favorite restaurant ever. I love Italian food and this place hit every spot imaginable. The one thing I didn't like was the mussels but I'm just not a mussel guy to be honest. The ravioli was incredible! The marinara and sauce that came on all the dishes was excellent may I add. The lasagna was a huge portion. The cheese was melted perfectly and the noodles were cooked and baked to perfection. The meatballs were okay. Nothing super special expect for the fact that they are huge and very soft on the inside. The fried shrimp was immaculate, especially with that sauce it came with. The ciabatta was a nice little appetizer for the family to try. The fresh tomatoes on top were a cool little addition for a change of pace appetizer. The bread and oil they give you is very good too. Sets the tone just right for the Italian excellence you are about to endure upon. I felt super stuffed after this meal and I'm a big teenage boy. We brought a lot of food home. For my table of 12, the service was amazing. Refills came often and the food came out quickly. The vibe also made it feel as if I was in a the "Godfather" movies! Wish this place was just like the reviews say but not close enough. My husband and I walked in and the hostess greeted us with a warning that there was not enough food to order for the evening. We looked at the menu and there was only five entrees to choose really running out of food on a Wednesday night?! What a shame can you immagine on a weekend? Food was awful I had the chicken parmigiana was so thick and flavorless and my husband had meatball and sausage the plate was drowning in a pool of sauce never have seen so much sauce in a dish like this the meatballs tasted like they were bought nothing was authentic about this place. It also smelled like mold and very outdated. My glass of wine tasted like cork and old the bartender never asked how was the wine as if he knew it was from an old bottle. This was an outstanding experience. We arrived at 5:30 (they opened at 5) on a Friday night. They were already full (limited capacity due to COVID) and they said it would be about 45 minutes. It was only about 30 minutes until we were seated. My husband got Josephine's Combo which for $13.99 was an outstanding bargain. I chose the Spinach Lasagna for $16.99. We both boxed up half of our meals to bring home as the portions are huge. We split a chocolate cannoli that was just right to end the meal. We were told that the menus change weekly - though Josephine's Combo is always available. The atmosphere was intimately lighted and the ambiance just right. I find their food ocassionally incredible but their staff is questionable. While dining there I asked if they served mojitos. I was told they did and I ordered one. The waitress came back several minutes later to inform me that the bartender said mojitos were difficult to make and he was busy. This restaurant immediately caught my attention since I'm Italian, from NJ and had a grandmother named Josephine. :). The restaurant is small but really nice. I sat at the bar and ordered some wine, a side salad and the eggplant parmigiana. The Eggplant parm was delicious and so was the marinara sauce. This entree came with pasta but honestly the pasta was over cooked. I should have asked for "Aldente" but assumed it would be. The bread was too doughy for me but I did love the olive oil and pesto to dip the bread into. Overall, a great restaurant with a nice atmosphere. read more

After waiting 3 hours On my 75th birthday to be served on A Friday night in Kitty hawk NC, we were seated and waited another 10 minutes for someone( a truly horrible person to come ask us if we wanted something. Her comment was after waiting three hours was" you are just getting in here". All I said was" 3 hours". And she got way over aggressive and asked us a party of five and a baby to leave. We waited from 5:30 pm until 8:30 just to get in. I am of Sicilian heritage myself and family. I would not treat any customer the way I was treated. I hope every stink eyed Sicilian out there in Yelp land avoids this place to eat. And next time I visit kitty hawk, this place is no more. They served everyone before us and could not figure out on three hours how to fit in a Sicilian family of 5 and a baby. We had to ask several times could they get us in. I traveled from Alba Tx with my wife, my daughter came from Nashville Tn, my other daughter and husband and baby traveled from Tucson, AZ. And chose to try this place.
