Spent a week visiting this great little town and strolled into this shop one day while shopping. I really needed some coffee to make at the hotel so I was thrilled to see the great selection of whole beans they had. I was even more thrilled to find they had Hawaiian grown beans-which is my first choice for coffee- the lady running the store that day, happily chatted me up about the coffee and ground it to my specifications right at the counter. They have tons of great stuff at this store...stop by and check it out! read more

A fancey wine shop that has delicious cheeses you can sample! We didn't buy anything here, just looked around. When I asked the lady at the counter what kind of cheese, she said, "It's written there" and pointed to the sign. So, not the friendliest service ever!! It's right by a big windmill for photo ops, though. read more

Really friendly staff. Had a great muscat bottle and a Bought a cheese sat outside in the patio. Highly recommend the vlaskaas cheese! read more

This is an awesome little cheese shop. They give out free samples, are very knowledgeable, incredibly friendly and have a great selection of cheeses, jams and cheese plate related knickknacks. Pretty much exactly what you're looking for and expect when you go to Solvang. read more

This place stinks...like cheese. Yeah, I bet this review gets filtered because of my stinky review, but next time I visit I'm bringing a cooler so I can pack it with goodies from this place! read more

What a crazy little shop, it has it all: Wines - sorted by region/county Candies - chocolates, gummies and MARZIPAN galore!! Cookies - some from the Solvang Bakery and others in town Dried meats - can't have wine without this! Tea - pretty interesting loose leaf tea section Cheese - with tastings and samplings Ended up walking out with a Dried Mango White Cheese, its sharp but the sweet dried mangoes help balance the flavor...delish! Stop by, you never know what you'll taste, see or buy! =) read more

after having our fill of solvang wine tasting, we found ourselves in this quaint little gourmet shop in search of CHEESE to compliment all the wines we had just bought and water to fulfill our alcohol dehydration!!! ha. we were pleasantly delighted to see a nice array of cheeses from different countries, a small assortment of salami, a good selection of beers, wines, snacks, etc... not a grocery store at all, but enough to get you through the day for snacks and wine/beer pairings. i agree with a previous yelper that this store may not be the best place to bring kids as there are a lot of wine bottles around that could accidentally get knocked off. all in all, a good find and Vinhus fulfilled our hunger needs! read more

We popped into this little shop while we were wandering through the town because we thought some meat and cheese would be great with our wine tasting. Unfortunately the sommelier for the shop wasn't in, so we had to settle for just tasting the amazing cheeses. There was a few delicious samples that I tried but I didn't catch their names. One had peppercorns in it that gave it a great kick. My dad bought some dry aged salami and some moist salami. The aged salami had a slight funk but the taste more than made up for it. We also got some horseradish cheddar that really creeps up on you after you take a bite. The store also stocks a bunch of little nick nacks used for entertaining guests with your fancy cheese and meat platters. Why is it that a cheese fork only has two prongs? read more

This is one of those stores where you want to buy EVERYTHING you see... the lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. An awesome selection of cheeses and wine in the back! Ended up buying an abelskiver pan and some mix. Can't wait to try it out! Like I always say, YOU WON'T KNOW UNLESS YOU TRY IT FOR YOURSELF! read more

Nice little cheese/wine shop in Solvang. Vinhus also sells your typical touristy goodies - international candies, a wide variety of tea and souvenirs you will buy only to find buried at the bottom of a drawer a few years later. Would've jumped on the international candy for my British fiancee, but you can get the same ones for cheaper at Cost Plus. Very nice selection of wine though if you want to avoid purchasing something with high mark up at one of the wineries. read more

This is by far a must stop when in wine country! They have tons of wine from the places in the region and most of the time at better prices than the tasting rooms. The cheeses here are to die for, they have more than anywhere in the region. Now you can have them cut you a plate of your favorite cheeses to go out on your day of tasting, or evening of Theaterfest. They can special order you just about anything and I forgot to mention they are a full blown candy store with tons of select high end candies. The staff here goes above and beyond. Make sure to put this as a must visit to your trip, it's AMAAZING!!! read more

This is unique little beer/wine shop. Not only do they carry beer and wine, but they also offer a variety of cheeses and gourmet coffee. In addition to those items, they carry Scandinavian sweets, cooking spices, and ebelskiver pans. read more

Nice little shop, the cheese sample were nice, and they had a decent selection. Store was pretty crowded and tough to get around, and seems like they are missing an opportunity to do some pairings and stuff. Still in a town filled with tourist traps, this place is pretty legit. read more

By the time we had gotten here (by the time it opened), there were tons of people on the streets of Solvang, so this little shop was busy! There were two people working and they were constantly busy. There were a couple of cheeses out for us to try and I really liked that, it gave me a chance to experience cheese I hadn't tried before to see if I liked it. The cheese is different all the time... wish I could go back and try more. The place is sooo small/tight with all those bottles and breakable items, I don't recommend small kids, or wheelchairs! My family was tired, and not into wine, so after looking around quickly they left. I walked around a little. They had loose tea, coffee, cheeses, crackers, and of course wine. I walked away with a German Wine. Heinz Eifel's 2008 Eiswein crafted by Anne Eifel-Spohr. I haven't tried it yet, but cannot wait. I'm expecting it to be one of the sweetest wines I've ever had! :-) The gal who checked me out was quick on her feet and helped me right away, and was sympathetic to my not having pennies. (we used our pennies in those machines that smash pennies into a design). This was a great little place, odd they open at 10:10 am, but I would definitely return. read more

Yeah this Cheese Spot is great. Lots of treats and different drinks including beer. The owner always has out like 6 cheeses to try - really neat because they are usually what we end up taking home after trying! Here's my only problem with this place -- the owner, while nice, is VERY pushy. We wanted about half of what her portions sitting out were, and it was REALLY hard to get her to just cut it in half so we could just take that home (we've tried taking home those huge hunks sitting out but they just end up getting wasted) -- perhaps it's wrong of me to have the expectation of 'Sure, let me cut that for you' (like a Whole Foods would), but it's kind of frustrating to be talked into a huge chunk of cheese and be told 'TRUST ME, you'll WISH you listened to me. PEOPLE TELL ME ALLLLLLL THE TIME they regret not getting a BIG piece!" - Ah, not a huge offense, but just don't come in expecting a particular portion, because the owner is very hesitant to do any modifications (and I don't think she will, anyways..) read more

A normal, tourist gourmet food shop. They have some cheese samples out, which is nice. It's not a "real" cheese shop, though, by any means; the selection is weak, the storage not very good, and the staff isn't very knowledgeable. The wine selection is good with normal prices. The beer selection is good (for the area) and reasonably priced; for example, they have some nice abbey ales for $10-$20 per bottle. They have a decent selection of Scandinavian candy, certainly more selection than I demand. read more

A great place to buy Danish foods and drinks. They have other things too but mostly Danish (crackers, cheeses, candies, spirits. The Aalborg Akvavit liquior is great but it's not for everyone and this is the only place I know where I can buy it (a pure Danish treat). Don't be afraid to try something new, it's all good. The service is great and the proprietors is Danish so the culture and product is authentic. read more

The cheese was very nice, but the service was appalling. There was a young woman at the counter with brown hair in a ponytail. She was very cold and condescending, and made me feel embarrassed about my cheese choices (as if that's something to be embarrassed about!). Bizarre experience, and I won't be coming back. The cheese left a good taste in my mouth, but the service left an overpoweringly bad one. read more

We just visited this place over the weekend with our family and some friends. Our family and friends were greeted not with the usual hello but rather something to the effect of "do not bring your children in here because they are eating ice cream (from next door)". So we obliged thinking very little of it. We inquired about the wine and the lady suggested we go somewhere else down the street because they would have what we wanted. It took us a minute before it dawned on us that this establishment did not want us there. I mean, we literally stood there, dumbfounded for a minute. We are of asian decent, by the way. I won't bother describing the woman working there. I'm sure this establishment is well aware of who she is. Apparently we are not the first to have experienced this racist behaviour from her. So my recommendation is, if you're white and indifferent to racism, come right in. Everyone else, please, please avoid this place at all cost. Don't let them ruin your day. read more

Went in there to find a gift for a wine connoisseur. Didn't find that but found a hilarious and Danish mother/daughter team having a wonderful time chatting with their customers. Very friendly and outgoing. ...and yes... we found Carlsberg and Underberg... something that you know well and miss if you grew up in Denmark.... Love this place read more

Love this shop. Selection is fantastic and has my loose tea by the ounce or pound. Love the older lady at the cash register as she always remembers me. Great selection of licorice as well. Keep up the good work. read more

Wow! I'm totally impressed with this store. As Greg and Corazon described, it's worth coming here for the cheese alone. Wonderful selection of cheeses from around the world, especially Scandinavian (mostly Danish of course) cheeses. Most places will only carry one kind of brunost (Norwegian brown cheese), but this place had three kinds. The cheese is only the beginning of the fun here. There were so many kinds of imported Scandinavian foods, many of which I hadn't seen since I was in Norway or since the Norwegian market in San Pedro closed down. It's not just Scandinavian, they have plenty of other tasty-looking food items, and they had a great selection of kitchenware and other gift items as well. But the name is Vinhus, what about the wine? Good news, they also have a great wine selection with some real treasures tucked away on the shelves, at pretty good prices as well. On top of that, the customer service here is top notch. The owner answers any and all questions, remembers his customers, and is happy to order products or ship them to you. I'm sure all of our future trips to Solvang will now involve a stop at Vinhus. read more

Love this place. A must stop every time. Get the spreadable cheddar. You can thank me later.

a good selection of european cheeses, wines, scandinavian and northern european grocery items, chocolates, sweets, and BLACK LICORICE!!! i got to buy my stash of salmiac black licorice! mmmm heavenly... but the bad thing is that it hasn't even been a week and i'm already running really low on the supply... should have gotten some more... this was yet another nostalgic place... looking at the familiar packaging of dried, canned, and instant food items i had forgotten about from my childhood... amazing how things like that just makes you feel warm inside... probably something that an American would feel if they had lived outside the US for several years and randomly saw a can of cambell's soup.... read more

Short and simple. We wanted to buy the cheeses we wanted the morning we headed out.. Got to the shop a little before store hours so we waited.. When the doors were supposed to open, still no one inside.. 10 minutes after opening hours, we saw the old lady inside.. We knocked and asked what time they open, just in case we were wrong on the business hours.. She looked at us, looked at her watch, and waved us away!!! We didn't want to give a grouch like her our business so we left.. read more

They have a great cheese and cracker selection but the one star is for: WORST. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. EVER. While the somewhat younger worker was able to at least grunt out a "How ya doin?" the rude, elderly and dust encrusted shrew behind the counter simply oozed "Please don't ever come here again." Her smug disinterest in helping us at all has ensured that I won't. read more

We love to drop by this fabulous family-owned shop to purchase cheese platters and snacks for our wine tasting adventures in Solvang. If you know your cheeses, you'll be impressed with the variety they offer. Try the coconut and the Rembrandt! The employees are friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and pricing is decent considering this is a tourist community. Plentiful free parking can be found behind the shop, and then you're free to roam the lovely streets of Solvang. Grab a cheese & meat plate to-go then head across the street to Santé Wine Bar. read more

Wow. So, I understand you may be running low on an item. I understand it may be WAY out of line that I possibly ask if you had more or would sell me the small amount you had left, but jesus, I don't know, smile? PRETEND to care? Make me feel, for just a SECOND, that my business matters to you? Customer service goes a long way. Thanks for making me feel like i did nothing but burden you by asking you for some help. Unbelievable. read more

I enjoyed browsing through this store, and, seeing all cheeses they had on display. Plenty to sample, too. I wound up buying the cotswold and some dill mustard. So yummy!. I was taking my nephew and wife from Nashville to one of my favorite spots for cheese in Solvang and to see my good friend that works there, Debra. Unfortunately, she was off today but we went to the cheese area and started looking as my nephews wife is a cheese lover.. There were probably 4 more people looking as well with some looking for assistance as there was no one around. As I looked, I saw a lady who's name was 'Nina' standing at the cash register desk and I said excuse me, could you offer some assistance here. All she said was 'What do you want?' Well I am standing here, I replied, looking at cheese. 'Well what do you need she said!' I looked at my nephews wife and politely said 'sorry I bothered you we will go someplace else.' All she did was shrug her shoulders and turned away. BAD ATTITUDE! Very poor customer service from this particular worker! As we went outside, I said I was sorry for that as I know Debra my friend would have went out of her way to help. That lady was plain rude. If she was working for me, I would had fired her last week. Inexcusable behavior for a worker in a business. All that does is give this quality place a bad name. We found another cheese shop and bought it from there. read more

The employees know their cheeses! They were able to make great recommendations and were more than generous with the samples. Whatever I wanted to try, they were more than willing to open up a package and let me try it. Seriously nice people. I stop in every time I visit Solvang. read more

Awesome assortment of cheese, wine, salami, pasta noodles, chocolates. Because it's a tourist spot everything's on the pricey side. For example a small tub of cheddar cheese paste is $10, souvenir solvang shot glass boot is $7, dried pasta noodle is $8.. Etc. it's a super cute store though with samples to try the different cheeses and cracker/bread. There's a lot of street parking and public parking in the area. read more

Perfect spot to get your wine, cheese, charcuterie fix. We were strolling by while in Solvang & this place caught our eye. Popped in & we were not disappointed. Samples of meats & cheeses were out. The lady working the cold case area was very helpful & kind. I ended up taking their house mad delicious Pub Cheese for home & the exact German Wasa Crisps & Light cracker they served it on. It was an amazing combination. I discovered they carried many European chocolate's & candies from Denmark, Germany & Sweden. SCORE! read more

As a local SYV resident, I love this store for its selection of cheeses and crackers, split bottles of wines & spirits, and the tea and coffee selections are wonderful. While we do have more selections these days to purchase similar goods in the area- when in Solvang I make sure to stop by and sample their picks of the day cheeses and always walk out with a hunk of Cotswald. Located next to the Solvang Bakery- its possible to kill two birds with one stone! read more

Walking around Solvang, saw cheese labeled on the store front so naturally, HAD to stop in. I'm such a sucker haha. Store offers a selection of items you can't normally find in grocery stores, with exception to World Market, from Scandinavian countries. They offer selections of treats, foods, alcohol and of course...CHEESE! I browsed through the wall of goodies and any questions I had, a gal re-stocking the shelves was more than forthcoming with information. I then bee lined it to the cheese and was able to sample the days' offerings: a havarti and red wax gouda. Same gal re-stocking the shelves, Susie (sp?), assisted us and man oh man does she know her cheese! I like to visit cheese shops wherever I see them and she was one of the most knowledgeable. Often times I have gotten the blank stare while they quickly read the pre-written text detailing whatever item I am inquiring about. I could point to any cheese and she would throw a plethora of adjectives and background to inform me of the item. She was BADASS!!!! I ended up buying 2 cheeses because I bought a cheese slicer at a previous store while strolling around Solvang and I really wanted to use it heehee. Purchased the 2 Sisters Isabella and a havarti (can't remember the brand). Will definitely be making it back there next time we are ever in Solvang. THANK YOU SUSIE (sp?) and the rest of the staff for being so amazing!!! read more

I live and work in Solvang and stop here several times a week. I typically meet a few interesting tourists and say hi to a few neighbors too. It's my go-to store for wine and cheese and European chocolates. The kiddos love the little ladybug-shaped chocolates and Kinder treats. My dinner guests love the wide selection of quality Pinots. I'm just happy they stock my Mozartkugel :) Susie, the owner, is one of the most pleasant people in the SYV and sources some of the best products. I love any place that has cheese so i was drawn to the store right away. I walked in and was surprised that they had so much more than just cheese. They have tea, wine, crackers, jellies, aged meats, and cookware. I stumbled upon this gem in Solvang! I enjoyed the cheese tasting and selection of wine. I spoiled myself with aged Gouda/ Salami/ and Vanilla Nut Coffee. All three purchases were a delight. Btw - the owner advised if you travel with Gouda cheese - it can be carried for up to 3 days. Love this place! read more
