We stopped by in our vacation. They had a great selection of gourmet and European snacks, cheeses, liquours and wines. We bought some of the sample cheeses and mulled wine spices. The customer service was friendly and attentive. A great location in the downtown Solvang area, and within walking distance to most of the hotels. read more

Great selection of cheeses and wine accessories. Easily the best in all of Santa Barbara County.

Omg, I was in heaven; found all kinds of Swedish goodies here that I haven't been able to find elsewhere. The blond lady was very helpful and friendly. I ended up leaving with a full grocery bag full of stuff. Only reason I don't give five starts are the prices. But on the other hand I also understand imports don't come cheap. All in all a wonderful little shop. If you're looking for European cheeses, this is your place too! read more

This was one of my favorite stores from a recent trip to Solvang. The cheese selection was simply awesome. They had just about any type of cheese you could want and good knowlege of them as well. The opposite wall was stocked with every kind of jam, curd and preserve you could hope to find. Lingonberry for crepes, Apricot for toast, Lemon Curd for scones, you name it. I also found these unusual forks and knives that are small but ornate in a Renaissance Faire kind of way for cutting and serving cheeses on a cheese board to guests. I had to buy some as I doubt I'd see something like that again. I don't drink wine but they had a good selection for those wanting to bring some back to the hotel room or for a picnic. Though it wasn't a really big store, I could've gotten lost in there for over an hour. Highly recommend a peak. read more

We visited Vinhus after seeing a picture posted to yelp. We were jonesing for a cheese plate and Vinhus did not disappoint. We were helped by a woman named Suzy who was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about wine and cheese. She asked us what we liked and did not like and the next thing we knew, there was a generous portion of cheese and meats plus a glass of wine set in front of each of us. We sat at the table outside and watched the sunset. Easily the best dining experience we had in Solvang during a weekend getaway. Thanks to Vinhus for a fantastic experience and for introducing us to some great new varieties of cheese. read more

Best cheese I've ever had in my life. My only complaint. I can't find it now that I'm home. It's that good I had to find this shop on the web so I can hopefully order some shipped. Stop here while you are in the area!!! read more

I was excited to finally go into this shop. I heard they had a great selection of items. My family was not acknowledged once while we were there, and the first two items I picked up were both expired. Will not be back. read more

Vinhus - First two things I picked up were expired. - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Solvang, California

Actually, my children weren't touching the cheese, they are very well mannered and listen very well. I, as a customer and adult would not damage any product in a store. I did pick up a few to see if they were the firmness that I would like, but pressing and damaging items, I did not. The review I have left is an honest one. If you wanted to keep customers, there is a much more friendly approach to service. And Nick is me. I was there that day. Greeting people in a friendly manner and offering to help first off would be helpful to customers if you do not intend on them touching any products at all. read more

I stopped in to get some Danish cheese and a loaf of bread. I was happy to discover that it was a family owned business. One of the owners was there and suggested a cheese that was tasty and in our price range. The shop also has a selection of chocolates and wines. Definitely a must-go when in Solvang! read more

Love this shop. Always have had friendly people to help us make our choices. We always stop here when we go to Solvang to get cheeses to take home! They have a wonderful selection and always ones to taste! Its hard to choose which ones we need to take home with us!! read more

Let's be direct: if you see an old lady at the counter just run out of this shop, do not, I repeat DO NOT deal with her. This old fart is the most unpleasant and sour person I've seen in a long time. She will make you understand that you are very unwelcome and that you are bothering her to no end. I wanted to buy tea and was asking a few questions, oh my, what a mistake. I even bought some to show her that I was serious to buy and was not just browsing, nope, she was still a bitch. I asked her if she had horseradish, she said yes with her bitchy face without showing me where, I asked her if it was a strong one and told me "I don't know, I hate horseradish". This old grumpy cantankerous witch must be resentful for the tourists to invade her space and her town and she certainly doesn't like the fact that she need them to live. Avoid this place a all cost, they may have products difficult to find elsewhere but no way they will ever have my business ever again. read more

Visited Vinhaus on 4/6/10. While the shop may have a good selection of wine & cheese, the customer service was truly terrible. My wife asked the old lady behind the counter what type of cheese the sample was and she told my wife to just read the label. The label only gave the name brand but no description of the type of cheese it was. She offered no assistance whatsoever and made no attempt to make a sale and we were the only ones in the shop at the time. It's not like the place was busy. Seemed like a grumpy old lady. Sad. Will not recommend this place until they give better service. read more

I was ordering from their website and ran into some problems. I called the store to find out if they could help. Susie was sweet, and took my order over the phone. I was concerned about shipping and wanted to make sure the order would make it in time for Mothers Day. She assured me she would get it out right away so it would arrive on time and even offered to dress up my order by putting a bow on it to help make it look more festive! Their cheeses are great and I know my Mom will be thrilled when this delivery arrives! I appreciate the great customer service for a last minute order! read more

Some of the unusual gourmet items are marked up pretty high but this is NOT Cost Plus World Market people. I found they had my favorite German Riesling so I bought several and it was at a good price. The lady that helped me was very polite and placed each bottle in a brown bag and double bagged the plastic. Some good finds in this little place. read more

Vinhus DID NOT HONOR their price on Jacobs Coffee and refused to sell it to me with the stated price. The stated price was $4.95. I wanted two. When I went to the counter to pay, the cashier said, "OH NO, this is not the right price" and took the coffee away. I believe California Law states you as a merchant must honor posted prices in your establishment. Needless to say I WILL NEVER shop there again or recommend this wine shop to anyone. read more

Nice selection of different kinds of cheese. However, we felt as if we were inconveniencing staff by asking a couple of questions - pretty chilly vibe. Will try another cheese shop next time we are in Solvang. read more

We really wanted a charcuterie board because we had just done a wine tasting at Sante across the street and I needed some cheese and crackers in my stomach. We walked all the way across town to Succulent Cafe but the wait was too long. So we went back to Vinhus and got a platter of 3 cheeses (garlic and her brie is amazing and so is the sage gouda). It also comes with olives, salami and crackers. We also got a glass of chardonay and sat outside. Delicious! Beautiful day! Looks like a lot of people complain about the lady at the cheese counter and I can see why, but honestly she wasn't that bad. She just doesn't really make much eye contact and smile. The older lady in the center counter was so sweet and nice. She definitely made us feel more comfortable in the store. They have a really good selection of cheeses. If the cheese counter lady was a bit more personable, I think they would do really well. read more

decent selection of wines, but keeps odd hours. hard to gauge if they will stay open late or not. this is not uncommon in sleepy Solvang. Still great for picking up some picnic items. read more

I was a little reluctant to go into this cheese shop from all the reviews stating how unfriendly the workers are. I asked my husband to wish me luck and off I went. Correct you are not Greeted at the door but both ladies working there were in great spirits and the one behind the counter was more than happy to help me decide which cheese to go with. Maybe I caught them on a good day? Who knows. For me a very nice experience. But then I am always the first to say hi and to wish people a good day or a great weekend! Give them a try, sure glad I did. We can't wait to have our cheese tonight with a great bottle of red! read more

Love coming into this cheese shop each time we are in the area. Depending on who is working, you get more detailed help and direction about the cheeses. However, in our experience, all the women who work here are nice, especially if you are nice to them! Often, we will look at the cheeses and pick a couple that "look" good then ask what they taste like.... And often we will get to sample before we buy. Or, I will say I like the consistency or flavor of "x" cheese, what is comparable? And they will help me out. Each time we go, we buy different cheeses and it is always a fun wine country adventure. If you are in there when it's packed, it's harder to get individual help about cheeses. Like going when there's fewer people inside, or at least fewer in the cheese area. read more

I found the owner and staff to have an A + knowledge of the cheese products they stock. It's easy to purchase from people that know the products. If you want to just have a last minute wine and cheese snack while around town this is the place to start. read more
