Cailloux Cheese Shop is a hidden gem located in Solvang. It's a little hard to find, unless you know the area. Tucked away in downtown Solvang and shares space with Alma Rosa, Alessio Gelato and other wineries. On my latest visit, we ordered mixed olives, a cheese plate and glass of wine. Customer service here was excellent! The lady that helped us could have been the owner but I'm not too sure. She was very good at explaining each cheese and such a sweet person. The mixed olives were a great little snack to munch on. They are briny and coated in herbs. The cheese plate comes with four different types of cheese. They range from mild, pungent and nutty. Each paired well with my glass of white wine. The cheese plate also came with fig jam, habañero jam, nuts, olives, and dried fruit. Well worth $22! It filled me and my son up. The cheeses are sourced from the best dairies around the United States and Europe. You can tell each cheese is high quality upon tasting it. They also offer grilled cheese sandwiches, escargot, Mac n cheese, soup and more. Overall, a great little spot to check out and escape from the busy streets of Solvang.

We had a great experience here. We had the red three flight tasting with the cheese pairing. We also ordered the Gruyère crustini. They had a sweet onion and fig with the Gruyère that was so good. They are located in a cute little court yard. The service was good and people were kind.

~ Best cheese board spread I've had ~ The older lady was so lovely and welcoming! Most of us didn't know how to order and she was patient with her customers. (The other workers did seem like they were annoyed with the customers.) There's indoor and outdoor seating! Everything was so yummy! They let you sample the cheeses! They have postcards!Get the olive oil crackers on the side.

To the business owner. I hope you're looking at your most recent reviews. Also, I didn't pick the wine off the shell. I pointed to the item I wanted off the menu and your staff brought me the wine but once at the registered, the price had gone up by 230%.! We were excited to try this cheese shop, but the experience ended up being unpleasant. The entire place felt disorganized from the moment we walked in. Prices printed on the permanent menu did not match what the staff attempted to charge. A half bottle of port listed at $26 was suddenly $84 at checkout -- a 223% increase. When we questioned it, we were told the menu was "outdated," even though the shop only opened in 2019. It's unacceptable to have permanent printed prices and then try to charge something entirely different. Even more concerning was the lack of basic food safety. One staff member was cutting figs with bare hands, coughing on them, and at one point dropped a fig on the floor, picked it up, and continued preparing food as if nothing happened. It was extremely unsanitary and made us question the overall hygiene and handling practices of the shop. We rarely leave negative reviews, but this was truly unacceptable. Until they address pricing transparency and basic sanitation standards, we cannot recommend this shop. Do NOT go!

Ordered a couple quick bites to enjoy during our tasting at neighboring Alma Rosa. The happy hour special is great - we ordered the happy hour cheese cone and bread and butter with fig spread. Great little spot for snacks during a tasting. Cheese cone had two types of cheese, some pepperoni, crackers and olives, all for $5.

This is a must-stop during your visit to Solvang! I suggest going during their Happy Hour and grabbing a cheese cone and/or their amazing pimento cheese spread. Super friendly staff and an inviting shop! We stopped in on a rainy Tuesday and happened to be by ourselves. It was so peaceful enjoying our wine and cheese with music in the background. If I lived here, I'd have to hit this Happy Hour once a week!

What a gem! This little cafe may be masquerading under the identity of a cheese shop but oh my, is it so much more! Don't get me wrong, the cheese here is excellent with many unique varieties that are a must for any cheese connoisseur. The cheese plate we tried was exceptional with a few different cheeses that I have never tried which says a lot! It was a steal at $22. This cafe has many options for snacks as well as food including French onion soup and escargot, cooked by the owner, a wonderful French lady we had the pleasure of meeting. They do have a pop in chef on Friday's and Saturday's who makes the most amazing fried chicken sandwich. We weren't hungry for a meal but my husband opted to try it anyway and was so glad that he did. This is a wonderful little cafe that I highly recommend and will definitely return to!

We went on a weekday for happy hour at 4pm and the staff was very friendly. Great music and outdoor setting on a sunny day. The happy menu is very affordable we got 4 appetizers for $20 total plus the drinks were 20% off. Definitely coming back for happy hour.

Stopped by after a recommendation from the olive oil tasting in Solvang, CA. We ordered the Raclette, salami, corn chicken crostini, tomato soup, and mac n cheese. I also ordered the Merlot . It was THE ABSOLUTE BEST tomato soup and mac n cheese I've had in my life! (We are foodies). The Merlot was smooth and Raclette delicious but the tomato soup was by far the star of the show.

If you are a fan of cheese, cheese-related items, food made with cheese, or cheese-adjacent things (aka wine) get thee here! It was recommended to us by a couple of different people, and I'm glad we popped in for lunch before heading home. A small amount of indoor seating, and quite a bit of outdoor seating. Service was good, and it's a beautiful spot. Enjoy the cheesy deliciousness!!

Cheese. So much cheese. And the most amazing shopkeeper ever
    Julia N.

Loved the shopkeeper, she was so knowledgeable and ready to make recommendations based on what we liked. We were given the chance to taste a number of cheeses before we actually made our purchase. The shop itself is just off Mission Dr, with convenient parking if you're driving: there's an easy walk up counter, as well as plenty of seating both inside and outside.

Such a cute cheese shop in downtown Solvang. They have lots of cheese and wine to choose from. I took advantage of their happy hour deal ($5 cheese and meat cones). A lady who worked that day (I believe her name is Reginae) was so pleasant to chat with. She provided such a great hospitality. Will return whenever I'm back in this town again .

This place was fabulous. We had lunch on the terrace, staff was professional, knowledgeable and very friendly.

Just a little sample for the road

The shop associate told me that the black color comes from licorice powder yet you cannot taste the licorice, only the lemon. There were many things I wanted to buy but had to have control.
