This is the best running shoe store in Los Angeles County. We make a point to plan a visit when we are in the area as we live SCV. All of the sales associates are highly knowledgeable and seem to enjoy working here. We tend to be Hoka customers, but I see them selling all different shoes depending on your needs. If they do not have the specific shoe in stock, they check with the other store in the area and/or order them for you. If they place an order for you it usually takes about five days. There is plenty of parking in the front or back lot. Village Runner is a hidden jewel of Redondo Beach for anyone with feet. This is definitely a five star shoe store! read more

They had a large selection and variety of shoes and able to let me try on each one and advise me on how each one feels and recommendations on what to decide on. I ended up with the ON Cloudrunners 2 which has been good so far. They're very aware of your injuries and running style and foot arch and other stuff to give you a good enough idea of what kind of shoe fits your body. They do occasionally run out of shoes to try and models so it will be a seasonal thing where you might not find the shoe you like. However, they will do everything in their power to get you the shoe you want if it's not in stock which is great service from them. I believe it was Scott who helped me directly though. He inspected my feet, watched my gait, and brought out a few pairs of shoes he thought would be a good fit for my needs. He explained that my running shoes should be longer than my other shoes to leave room for foot swelling and my foot shifting around, so as not to lose a toe nail. We narrowed it down one by one by trying on the shoes and assessing what felt most comfortable. I settled on a pair, which he only had one colorway of, so he called their other store in redondo beach to see if they had more colors. I came away with a new pair of shoes and some knowledge! I loved running. I was one of the fastest girls in high school. I never joined track or running teams because I honestly viewed running as a stress reliever rather than a competition. I ran all through college until I developed a chronic illness that halted my physical movement. When I became better, I decided to start running again. Interestingly, I started up again during a time when running became popular in social media. Nowadays, people use specific shoes, socks, gummies, lotion, and blah blah to just run a mile. I only ever used ASICS from the discount section. I love the asics brand but I noticed that after 4 years, my running shoes had indeed died. I opted to cave into the running craze and go to an actual running shoe store to check out brands. Village Runner was close to my home and had great reviews. I got there at opening time and met with a polite gentleman that walked me through the different options. He spent time with me, asked me questions about my running style, and even analyzed my walking style to see what I actually needed. I eventually decided on Hoka Clifton's which I have been using steadily for three months with little disappointment. The employees are kind yet precise. Very knowledgeable. They were patient, tried on several different brands and after talking with me he recommended an Altra Paradigm 6. Never heard of it and once I put it on I had to have them. Be warned that they don't tell you up front the cost of the custom in soles. They're $100, and they don't tell you that until they've already molded them to your feet. Then you feel obligated to buy them. It's a bit of a racket. They'll also try to sell you on an ongoing membership subscription /fees. But that's my only gripe. Other than that this place is amazing. I was impressed by their custom fitting process. Their people are so helpful and wildly knowledgeable. And the selection can't be beat. The store is massive. read more

They were already worn outside the house and he worked with me patiently to find and exchange for the right shoe. A great store with a better staff. They have changed the way I look at exercise. Better equipment means more comfort and better results. The staff has helped me with shoes, socks and other stuff all under the caveat that if I don't love it, bring it back and we'll find something better. I'm a long time customer at Village Runner. Yesterday it was time for me to buy new running shoes and I went online to order my Brooks Adrenaline on the Village Runner website. No charge for shipping since order value more than $50. I looked forward to receiving my shoes maybe sometime next week. About 90 minutes after I placed the online order, I get a phone call saying my shoes are "at the door". Thinking he means the Village Runner store door, I said I'll pick them up. The deliverer says "no, no - I'm downstairs in front of your building door with your shoes". Sure enough I go down and he hands me the shoes - 90 minutes after I ordered. My husband & I (Asian Indians) went to the Village Runner store along Manhattan Beach blvd. Felt discriminated and got horrible customer service!!! A Caucasian male (older looking) and bald was the store attendant & he was attending to a white lady and we waited for our turn to buy a new pair of running shoes. When it came to our turn, he was aloof and distracted. Just walked away and started attending to another white woman who was there to pick up a free tee shirt. My first time visit here was great. The sales staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He certainly knows what to recommend based on your personal need. He did a thorough examination about the way I walk, then he made a couple recommendations. Depends on the type of activity you do, they usually recommend one size up. In my case I don't run, I walk. Unfortunately I had to return the shoes that I purchased because they felt big. I've tried them on twice for waking just didn't feel that comfortable base on the size. I went back to the store to try to exchange them for half a size smaller. Which I was advised they have 30 days return policy, prior to my first visit when I purchased the shoes. The owner helped me, but he insist to go a whole size up. He didn't seem very happy that I have to exchange them down to half a size smaller. And apparently they didn't have the color that I like either. They have black instead of blue. I told him I don't like black, then he said most people like black. I respond, well I'm not most people. He insist it's not good to go for smaller shoes. I told him they feel way too big and I wasn't comfortable. I asked if he can order them online, he said if he order them online they usually don't shop within 6 days. (I didn't tell him that I know ASICS has free two day shipping). He said ASICS doesn't have a fast shipping. He also said if I get the smaller size he would have to make a note that I can not return them anymore (which is understandable, they'll probably lose money). So I was disappointed based on the attitude that he'd given me. He seems like he wasn't on a good mood, compare to the sales man that helped me before. I returned the shoes and walked away. I didn't feel like dealing with him, he is not the easiest person to deal with. I purchased my shoes online at ASICS. read more

This is one of the best athletic shoe stores in town. Not huge , but carry top brands as well as unique brands such as HOKA and Altura. My The staff is so knowledgeable and very helpful. The BEST running store. Period. First off the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, motivated to find the RIGHT shoes, not just the ones they want to sell. They ask questions, and take time with customers. I've bought 3 pair of shoes there so far in the 1.5 yrs in the area, and I've been thrilled with the service and assitance so far. I had issues with the same pair of shoes starting to fall apart quickly...i liked the shoe, but the manufacturer had a bad batch or something...Jeff was quick to swap out new shoes, deal with the manufacturer, and communicate with me. The selection is very good for a niche market store. Furthermore, they're quick to break out the catalogs and try to find you something if they don't have it. The prices are the same you'd find in big box stores, and you should really get what you pay for anyway...i'm making a 400 mile relationship with these shoes so I don't want to go cheaper...that's just me. This place helped me find my favorite running shoes, ever. Years ago, I joined a running club and the "coach" told me to check this place out for running shoes. Located in a little strip mall on Sepulveda. The front parking lot is tight, but there's a lot behind the building, too. I ran track in high school and was curious how much they were really going to help me. When I discussed with staff how I run, they gave me a shoe that would work best for me. And to this day, I still use the same shoe. Subsequently, I have taken my husband and my daughter to this store. They were great with my daughter, because she had foot pain while training with the track team and had tried 2 different pairs of shoes. They ended up helping her find shoes that helped all the pain to go away. Plus, they gave a discount because she was a member of the local high school track team. Nice! Also, they carry sand socks when training in the sand. Nice staff and great shoes. Okay, I have to admit they are a bit pricey, but its worth it to find a great pair of running shoes. read more

After a not-so-fun 6 mile run with my husband along the strand, I decided I needed some new running shoes ASAP. I used the yelp app on my iPhone to see what was in the area and lo and behold - Village Runner was (sorta) on my way back to Hollywood. As we walked into the store, we were immediately asked by a woman if we needed help...but not in a nice way. A little snooty...and totally threw me off. As she followed us over to the shoes, I explained my knee pains and overall discomfort during my last few runs and asked what shoes could help alleviate my pains. Her response (looking me up and down): "Um, its not the shoes...I think its you." Um, thanks for making me feel like a freak. I also asked about motion control vs. cushioning shoes. Her response was along the lines of "Every shoe has cushioning." You work in a running shoe store, one would think you would know the differences between your products. Don't mean to sound harsh, but I was so put off by her service and attitude towards me, that I couldn't even purchase a pair of clearance shoes for everyday from them. I gave them 2 stars because their other staff member working was very helpful with his customer, and they overall, the store had a great selection of stuff. Well, tonight we stopped in at Village Runner and met Andrew and James, and I'm so glad we did. They checked the wear of my current shoes, checked my walking style, and presented me with three options to choose from. Very knowledgeable guys, will definitely be back for my next pair. I'll start by saying I bought my current running shoes from Road Runner sports, along with insoles, using their "Shoe Dog". I was training for the LA Marathon and during my long runs, 10+ miles, my feet would hurt so badly that I was nearly limping towards the end, and really questioning whether or not I would be able to complete the marathon. So I stopped by Village Runners since they're very close to my office. I explained the problem I was having, showed them my shoes, and my insoles, and the guy watched me walk barefoot through the store. He was completely straight forward which I really appreciated and said I had the best running shoes that I could have bought (Asics by the way), and that they weren't worn out yet, so he didn't want to sell me new shoes. He suggested that the isoles were unnecessary and to just give the shoes a try without them. Unfortunately, I had gotten rid of the insoles that came with the shoes... So, he gave me a new pair out of some recycled shoes, and didn't charge me! And so just like that, my debilitating foot pain that had made me question whether I'd make it to marathon day was gone along with those damn $40 insoles! I will definitely by my shoes here in the future. I appreciate the fact that he didn't BS me and try to sell me new shoes (had spent $150++ on the shoes and insoles in the first place) and even more so that he hooked me up with the regular insoles that I had stupidly gotten rid of.
