Evolution Footwear is a gem of a shoe store in Torrance. They carry high quality, comfortable, and well made shoes. I am going on a trip that will involve a lot of walking, and I am looking for shoes that I can wear in inclement weather but yet walk all day in if need be and then transition to restaurant attire at night. I thought I was asking for a lot, but I found a pair of boots that checked all the boxes. I can wear them with casual pants, dressier pants, and even a skirt with leggings. My mother was having an issue with her achilles tendon and Laura recommended the perfect walking shoe for her that she absolutely loved. I have been in search of comfortable shoes as my feet ache all the time due to arthritis. Someone had referred me to Evolution Footwear and I was very happy to meet the owner Laura today who suggested a couple of pairs of shoes that would feel better on me. She also watched me walk and gave me a suggestion about my achilles tendon and how it was very tight and that could affect my feet. Interesting, no one else has ever said that to me and I'm going to do the exercise she suggested to help correct this problem. I won't go back here. I made a purchase (based on an agreement with the owner), which she did not keep, and when I was totally dissatisfied, the owner wouldn't resolve it. I was eating lunch at the fish place next door and had a little time to kill so I walked in to check out the shoes. The owner was there helping someone else, and did not acknowledge me. I browsed while she helped the other woman. I found a pair of shoes I liked and waited patiently. It look awhile for her to wrap up with the other woman and so I was short on time. She finally got to me and I told her I wanted to try these black NATO shoes. She looked and she didn't have my size. So she gave me another similar style in the same brand to try on. It fit a tad snug but she assured me it could be worn in as it was leather. She then said the shoe wasn't available anymore in that color and they only had a gray/black one in the same style. She said if she ordered the shoe it was non-returnable to the purchaser. She asked me to commit to the purchase. I told her i wasn't sure about that especially since I hadn't tried on the shoe in that style to even know if I liked it or the fit. She said "we'll work something out if you don't end up liking it". I committed based on her agreement. The shoe came in a over a week later (holidays), I tried it on and the fit was not good. It was too tight across the toes, very tight. So she stretched and stretched it and stretched. It was not a good fit, even though it was my size and it had been stretched. I was not happy and she told me that it wasn't returnable. I told her that it didn't fit and I didn't love the colors or the shoes. She said she'd die the shoes for me and I could come back at anytime to get them re-died as the die wears off. She persisted and said it wasn't returnable. I told her that she said that we'd work something out, and she said, "sure I'll give you 10% off the shoes and you can come Back anytime To get it died or stretched". That was her "work it out" solution. 10% Off a pair of $200 shoes that didn't fit, I didn't like the color and I wasn't satisfied with. I walked out with my new set of crappy expensive paperweights I'll never use. I won't go back here. Since then I've attempted to wear them a few times to see if I could get used to them or break them in...out of sheer disappointment that I spent $ on them. They were terrible. A horrible fit and so uncomfortable!! read more

Our chiropractor recommended my girlfriend see a podiatrist for her foot issues caused by years of wearing very expensive, ill-fitting shoes, which, along with hip issues from numerous injuries, was causing her foot pain from an abnormal gait. The podiatrist then recommended we make the drive from Orange County (only 32.6 miles) to see Laura at Evolution Footwear. I'm not a fan of shopping, especially with a woman for shoes (snore!), but I have a brother in the South Bay so I agreed to tag along with the promise of the three of us being able to connect for lunch if he was around. We spent 2 hours with Laura, not only because she was a delight to talk to, but she's extremely knowledgeable, what with her previous profession in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. I was so fascinated by everything she said that I lost track of time, and when all was said and done we left with three pairs of shoes for my very happy girlfriend, and I got lunch, though my brother was nowhere to be found. We have since recommended Evolution Footwear to friends and coworkers, and they all have had equally satisfying experiences. I felt the need to comment after seeing only 2 with one being completely wrong. This store has one of the most helpful young ladies with regards to shoe fitting and foot problems in the South Bay. I have purchased shoes for myself and my mother with absolutely no problems and my wife usually purchases several pair on each visit. The owner is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, I was originally referred to Evolution by my foot doctor who recommended it highly. Clearly the previous reviewer (or her senile mother) must be mistaking this store for some other place, especially since they reference some pharmacy in El Segundo as an alternative... This exceptional store is a treasure because you can be helped to find the shoe that is perfect for your foot or foot problems. I have passed by this store over the years, but really didn't know what kind of store it was, and never took the time to go in before. The store sells comfortable shoes that have maybe a little more flair/style than other walking company shops. If you can't find your size or style preference, you should know that no specialty store like this keeps all sizes in stock because of the expense of stocking inventory. I learned this when I mentioned that specialty walking shoe stores in Manhattan Beach and Del Amo did not have my size and would have to order shoes for me to try them on. I am writing this review to express my appreciation for the owner's expertise and guidance in finding a perfect fit for my flat feet and posterior tibial tendon problems. Thank You!
