This time it was so fresh and flavorful and not too moist, crust wasn't tough - it was delicious!! So sad that I didn't remember to take a photo before I gobbled it up! My bestie ordered a blueberry muffin, then later a croissant sandwich. I didn't try them, but she loved them both. I ordered a latte and it was so good that I returned for another. We enjoyed our visit, people-watching and catching up. The place was very clean although small but most customers seemed regulars and just walked up with their dogs and/or kids and left, so mostly live close-by, it seemed. We were looking for pastries to bring home for dessert and we discovered Village Baking. You could just smell the love as you walked through the door. There was a huge assortment of danish, butterfly cookies, and a variety of other baked goods. We debated about which ones to buy and picked out our favorites. They were delicious and freshly made. Service was great and they were very patient as we tried to make up our mind on which pastries we were going to buy. Prices were average for what you would expect for a homemade pastry shop. My go-to at any new bakery is the almond croissant, and Village Baking Co.'s version did not disappoint. I absolute love this place for all things bakery! Been here three times already and never had a problem with anything there. I mainly go for their pastries so I have not tried the other items they have there but I will have to soon. It does get really busy at times but the wait has never been too much at all. I have been coming to this location for several years, primarily for their phenomenal pretzel croissants. While the flavor has changed slightly in recent years-- with the pretzel brine becoming a bit overpowering-- they still remain a unique and delicious treat. Since moving from Dallas to Houston, I have made special trips just to pick up these croissants along with a lavender latte. Every visit, the staff had always been friendly and accommodating, allowing me to phone in my order so I could quickly grab it before my 4-hour drive back to Houston. Unfortunately, this past weekend was a completely different experience. When I called to place my usual order, I was met with a condescending response, being told that they don't take phone orders and never have, which was both surprising and disappointing given my years of doing exactly that. The interaction made me feel like I was being dismissed rather than valued as a loyal customer. Had the response been friendly and understanding, I would have had no issue coming in on a busy Sunday morning to place my order in person. However, the dismissive tone left such a bad impression that, sadly, I won't be returning. Great food should be matched by great hospitality, and this time, it simply wasn't. read more

GET THE QUICHE!! So goooood! My favorite is the veggie one - lots and lots of mushrooms. I believe is mushroom and spinach. If you don't love mushrooms then it might not be for you. However, the quiche lorraine is also good. I just don't prefer it as it can sometimes taste too fatty for me. If you are getting it heated, make sure they heat it all the way through. My cousin and I stumbled across this bakery because we were just looking for a drink, but we were pleasantly surprised with all the delicious looking pastries. As soon as we walked in We were greeted with a friendly smile and welcome. We really love this place because of the customer service. The drinks were fabulous and we had such a great conversation with some of the customers who walked in as well as the employees. Everyone was just so nice. Not only that the coffee that we got was so good and they have alternate milk options for your coffee. The oat latte was definitely a hit!!! They were then packaged up in a to-go box, we paid at the register, and we were on our way! The bakery also some seating outside next to the sidewalk if you'd prefer to enjoy a pastry and coffee al fresco. A close girlfriend dropped by yesterday for a much needed catchup and surprised me with these heavenly carbs from Village Baking co in lower Greenville! She gifted me with an assortment of humungous croissants, all pictured here. Classic styled, almond with powdered sugar, and chocolate chip! I've tried to almond so far and it was delicious! This is one of those must-stop-in shops when you're in Lower Greenville. I have been coming here for years for their pastries, I'm quite shocked I have yet to write a review! Honestly one off the best pastisseries in Dallas! From the second you walk in the door, you see the pastry case full of delicious baked goodies! I love French bakeries and this is one of the few in Dallas. We used to go to the old location on University but they moved to lower Grenville a couple/serval years ago. This location gave them the opportunity to carry more stuff which is great. Can't complaint when there are more selections and the quality still remains. I can't remember the last time I came here. It's been awhile. But that just for lower Greenville area in general. When life is busy you don't venture out as far like you used to. So I was glad to be back. Grab some croissant with meat filling and fruit and devour them in the car with the hub and baby girl. Brought gone some baguettes and desserts to enjoy afterwards. I ran across this place when I was trying to kill some time and this was a great find! I'm currently on a bread kick - I want a hot loaf with some butter - so I was hoping to find some here. I didn't but I found lots of great other things. They make their own bread as well as lots of pastries. I ended up getting a croissant & some croissant like muffin that had raspberries in it. I didn't get far before I was digging into the bag and then I wanted to kick myself because it was so good but I only got one of each item! The raspberry thing was crunchy on the outside but the inside was tender and buttery and just delicious! The croissant was soft and buttery and just great. (I made the mistake of going to another bakery a few days later and their croissant was nothing close to these). A few days later I found myself back here wanting more however they were out of the croissants I wanted (I was shown pretzel croissants but I passed) but I got another raspberry thing and a pear tart that didn't disappoi I'm addicted and I'll be back to try out the other things on the menu. . . . Got the canele at about $5 a pop and it just tasted like a concentrated mush of honey dough. Thats not how its suppose to taste. The flavor is suppose to be subtle with a satisfying honey crunch and especially no mushy texture. read more

While I miss the old location and its sometimes hard to find parking, this new location has a more appealing counter and seating area plus VERY hard to find parking. (Tip: come really early and you'll likely find street parking somewhere nearby.) I always get mine to go so once I get in the car, I can open the sacks and fill my car with the delicious scent of butter filled croissants, fruit or chocolate fillings and freshly baked bread. (For the scientific types that read this review, it is the Maillard Reaction from sugars combining with amino acids that form the golden and umber color plus release volatile compounds that people enjoy smelling.) The magic words to describe the first bite BEFORE the flavors set in are elasticity, crunchiness, stickiness, softness, firmness, and freshness. After the flavors tickle, tease and play with your taste buds, the most likely next sound heard is "MmmmMmm" followed with a satisfying smile. The next bite is always better than the first. The last bite will evoke some sadness. If your mind was fully aware and calculating while in the store, you'll have another pastry item in the bag for a following bite. Grab a loaf or 2 of bread while there. Might as well pick up some more pastries as you know you'll want more! Oh, don't forget to bring some to the special someone in your life! I do love this place AND the ham and cheese croissants AND the chocolate filled pastries as I did with my last visit. Coming from Virginia I was excited when my friend brought me to her favorite coffee shop in Dallas. I ended up with 2 boxes of pastry's and best believe I brought it on the plane back to Virginia. Porter and Rebekah were amazing and friendly. I got an ice honey lavender latte and it's the best I've ever had. The lavender is the perfect amount and dosent overpower the latte. I am also really impressed with the selection and everything was very fresh. Me and my family loved every croissants & was sad when we finished everything. This bakery is absolutely unreal. My first visit was around thanksgiving, so I got to sample three of their pies in addition to my pastries, and everything blew me away! It was impossible to decide which pastry to get, so I asked what their "signature" items were and was guided to the chocolate kouign amann. It was sweet, flaky, and chocolatey - such a treat! My friend went the savory route after they set out a tray of fresh croque monsieur that left us drooling and that was perfection as well.
