I recommend checking your order before leaving and be prepared for substitutions. In all fairness, take my review in context, this was our first and only visit during an overnight stay while travelling through the area, and every restaurant can have an off night, particularly a bakery when it is two hours before closing. We were excited to see a bakery close to our hotel, as we wanted some fresher options, in comparison to the other choices near us. We placed on online order for pick-up. During the online ordering, it said the bakery was out of the bread we wanted, so we picked a different option. When we arrived to pick up our order, we were told the desert we ordered was out of stock. It was irritating that the online ordering told us they were out of bread, but not desert. We picked a substitute desert. When we got in our car, we realized we did not have all our food. We went back and got the deserts that were missing, which also needed to be substitutions. We then realized we did not have any forks or napkins, so went back in for those. I like when websites ask you if you want napkins/silverware. When we finally felt comfortable leaving, we arrived back at our hotel to find out that we were given the wrong food. The bag had our correct receipt, but all the containers had the wrong items. Due to the time of the evening and our exhaustion, we just dealt with what we had, threw most of it away, and just gave up on the whole experience. We did not give the bakery a chance to get us the correct food, though we also did not demand compensation. I am sure most of this review will seem like more of a reminder to us all to check our orders than it will a fair criticism on the bakery. We felt it should also serve as a reminder that we as consumers should not be putting in all the effort and should have a reasonable expectation that we are receiving what we have paid for and tipped generously to receive. We travel through the area often. We do not know if we will try this place again. We may, or we may try some of the other options the next time we are in town. Sorry to say that the Village Baker at the District is very disappointing. :( We go to village baker all the time and was so glad one opened by our home and with a drive through. But the food has been horrible. Made wrong, not properly tempt and when I called about my last order that was for the family and called in I was so upset. sandwiches were not made the way we ordered and paid for extra bacon on two sandwiches and didn't get that. Bread was hard, turkey tasted bad and avocados were brown and mushy. Desserts are worth the larger fee if you get a nice portion. they are smaller and use a different recipe for frostings as they do not taste as good as the other village bakers. Came here with the family and decided to try their pizza. They told me up front it would take at least 15 minutes to make which was fine. The rest of my family's food came out and about five minutes later so did my pizza. It looks great, a lot of cheese, cooked to a golden color. Stopped by here since it was the only place around with soup. Came in and got the chicken and rice to go. It was fairly quick to come out which was surprising with how many people were there. When I went in about a month ago, there were no almond bars (employees said they don't make them anymore?) and all the "specialty pizzas" were MIA on the menu. No tostada pizza, nothing that wasn't available from a little ceasars or Dominos to be honest. Really just disappointed since I don't like marinara and the almond bars and tostada pizzas were the main two things I would go there for along with a loaf of bread or two. Wow! Better than home cooked. The chicken noodle soup is perfect. The flavor is rich, satisfying and comforting. The chicken salad contains lots of chicken (no fat, skin or gristle) and marries well with the fresh baked honey wheat bread. I usually don't eat the crust on the bread; however, the honey wheat bread is so delicious, I had eaten the crust down to the last bite before realizing it was all gone too soon. The cookies are large and flat. They are just right crunchy on the edges and a little softer and chewy in the center. I would think it nearly statistically impossible to find a restaurant where the savory dishes, the baked breads and the yummy desserts are all near perfection. Maybe one out of three or possibly two out of three; but, Village Baker knocks it out of the park on all three. We need a restaurant of this great quality closer to or preferably located within the city limits of Layton, Utah. Please, Village Baker, set up shop a little further north. read more

Whoop whoop! Public announcement: Sandy now has a tasty and affordable place to get lunch! I came to this bakery because of the raving reviews on Yelp. Now, I see the reason for the hype. This place is the bomb.com. If you decide to get lunch here, then you are headed the right direction in your life. You're making good decisions. We walked into the village baker and we were immediately greeted by a Friendly, smiley girl at the front counter. We told her this was our first visit and she started making suggestions of her favorite items on the menu and walked us through the ordering process. The restaurant smelled of cookies and fresh baked bread.... It was a very appealing smell! We grabbed our chips and cookie and headed to a table. The ambiance of the bakery is high class chic. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the sitting area. After about 10 min they called our name and we received our food. The food: Turkey and avocado on squaw bread: Oooo man. A thick stack of fresh cut turkey, avocado spread and provolone cheese...all stuffed between 2 thick slices of homemade squaw bread (think wheat bread, but darker and sweeter). The only complaint I had about this sandwich was, there was way too much avocado spread. It became very overpowering to the other flavors. Chicken salad on sourdough bread: This was by far my favorite sandwich. The bread was fresh, flavorful and not too thick! The chicken salad was so flavorful! My taste buds were jumping for joy as I devoured every last bite of this tasty Sammy. Double chocolate chip cookie: The best word to describe this cookie: Meh. For being a bakery, I was surprised to find that this cookie was mediocre. You definitely pay for quantity, not quality (these cookies are huge). The cookie was too thin and too sugary. This place is PHENOMENAL! Each time that I have been here, my food was delicious! Being vegetarian, I have gotten their Pizza Monterey, the vegetarian & provolone sandwich, spinach salad, and broccoli cheese soup. The pizza is amazing. I love their sandwiches, especially on their squaw bread. They will alter any menu item to make it vegetarian. Their broccoli cheese soup is also very good, and can be served in a bread bowl as well. Their desserts are delicious. I love their black magic chocolate cake- it's one of my favorite cakes of all time. The people there are always friendly. All hail the supreme overlord of sweets! Holy sweet mother of all that is delicious! Praise the goddess of desserts! If you're looking to worship a pastry, come pay your devotions here. Village Baker makes your idol. And they call it a cinnamon roll. We got 25 of them for a birthday celebration at work today, and it was HEAVEN. The pizza is great - we got that. The brownie is really good too. But the world can revolve around this sticky bun, so it gets its own review First off is the size. This thing is GIGANTIC. Jim Gaffigan said his Cinnabon was so big he didn't know whether to eat it or sit in it. Well, he could build a house on the foundation of this one, and then never get a Cinnabon again cause this puts those to shame. Then there's the frosting. I'm pretty sure they dump an entire 5-gallon bucket of buttery-delicious, oh-so-sweet icing all over each sweet roll. It's piled on top, dripping into the middle, and spilling over every side.. Eventually you get to the loaf of bread in the middle. Pillowy soft and sweet, with a perfect amount of top-quality cinnamon rolled inside. Raisins? Of course not. Don't be ridiculous. Come prepared with a plan of attack - do you spiral along the outside and save the perfect prize of the middle for last? Do you go straight from one side to the next? Either way, bring a pillow. You'll need a nap halfway through eating it, and will probably pass out from SOD (sudden-onset diabetes) once you're done. I want one of these cinnamon rolls for my 72-hour kit. And by that I mean, this thing could BE my 72-hr kit. Not only are there enough calories to carry me through and even gain a pound after whatever 3-day emergency might hit, but I'm pretty sure it also has healing powers to fix any injury. And it also seems to emanate light, so no need to store a flashlight either. I'd be totally taken care of while the rest of the world is panicking. Prepare yourself. Come get your sugar high. My father and I traveled here recently and this place was down the block from our hotel. I ordered the personal chicken cordon bleu pizza which was heavenly and my dad ordered what I thought was the best pastrami sandwich I've ever tasted! We are from NY so that is saying a lot. Their fresh baked bread which was a type of sweet Rye really added to the deliciousness of the sandwich. After a little taste of the pastrami and Swiss with pickles and mustard, I actually stopped there on my way to the airport and brought this sandwich back with me to NY for my husband to try.
