So I said I'd come in sick with a mask on to my appointment in order for them not to charge a cancellation fee. They said I couldn't come into my appointment either because I'm sick. So basically they won't let me go to my appointment, but they also won't waive the fee for keeping me out for being sick. Wtf? These people are seriously unprofessional and rude. Any other salon would've understood and simply waive the fee like a real business who treats their customers well. Not to mention my first experience there when the employees gossiped about other clientele the whole time to each other and then smile to your face as you fill their pockets, wtf was that about and why are they doing this in-front of customers in the chair?! I really tried to give this place another chance, I had hopes for this place based on reviews, I came to realize later a lot of those nice yelp reviews came from their friends, yes I can tell. There are definitely better salons out there that are authentic and courteous and I was lucky to find a better one with higher standards for how they run their business and treat people and been with them ever since. Happy to ditch the ritzy place, no room for the fake and greedy.

Then, when I asked to be re-seen to get my hair done since it looked like nothing had been done to my roots, they tried to convince me that I NEEDED bleach to lighten my hair (which would've cost me additional hundreds of dollars). Mind you, I have a dark brown hair color. Some time has passed and I've consulted multiple hair stylists and they all confirmed I DO NOT need bleach to get my roots the same color. When I complained to the owner, she said I needed to wait for the sun to lighten my hair?? Which is completely absurd. 2 months later and to no shock, my roots aren't lighter. I unfortunately would not recommend or be returning.

My biggest issue continues to be the OWNER repeatedly canceling my appointments. This has happened more than once, and it is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. Customers arrange their schedules around appointments, and our time should be respected too. What makes this especially disappointing is that the cancellations are coming from the owner herself. As the owner of a business, I would expect you to set the example when it comes to reliability, communication, and customer service. If a customer repeatedly canceled appointments, I'm sure it would be considered unacceptable and they could potentially be charged a cancellation fee. So why should customers be expected to simply accept repeated cancellations from the business? I have tried to be patient, but there is only so much inconvenience a customer should have to tolerate. I am leaving this review because this was genuinely my experience, and other customers deserve to know what they may encounter when booking here.

A Devine service of comfort, knowing your funds was invested in self-healing. My Review? I view Cherry's Eye as one of the best "Salon, Spa, Therapy Safe Homes" I myself has personally entered. I always request days, even months ahead of time for private sessions on my Eye Brows, Lashes and Waxes. Very relaxing for a woman who has her hands full with unbalanced "Stuff". Sometimes I wonder if my "stuff" is too much for Ms. Cherry although she treats me as if it's my "Me" time every visit. She takes her time, plays soft music in the background, giving me the calming feeling I need being that it's now my "Me" time. I didn't have a "Me" time before going into this place. The atmosphere just feels amazingly comforting every time I walked in, and was greeted by yours truly. The days I walk in early, I don't mind much because I have the opportunity to sit and breath before it's my "me" time. Shaking off everything that does not matter at the door and at that moment! Let me first start by saying I am a super diva and very careful about who I let touch my face! I'm a stylist with kids and not alot of time in the morning, but I do love to do my makeup. My friend went to Ms. Cherry for her Permanent Eyebrows and it looked so gud!! I was scared because I did not want that old gray blue fake tattoo look. Her brows looked so natural. So I was nervous because I read all kind of crazy stuff and Ms. Cherry with her soft voice and relaxing music calmed me down lol. I tripped out like crazy the first few days because it was sooooo dark! She told me it would get lighter. It did!! Omg!! I wake up everyday on superfleek and my shape is bomb! I'm sooo over due on this review but I am so so soooo greatful and absolutely love the shop, the girls working there, their talent, and the atmosphere. I appreciate the flexibility Deja had to take me in in such a short notice. I had a friend try to do a sew in for me with partial leave out and my hair was a hot mess the day before my work dinner. Deja came to the rescue and SLAYED my hair just in time for my work dinner. Not only did she do an amazing job but the girls in the shop had me laughing and feeling good the whole time. Hello everybody, Let me tell you about this gem located in Richmond. I was in need of braid stylist to braid my hair before my scheduled surgery. I was able to locate Deja in a nick of time. Deja gave her professional opinion regarding which hairstyle would best suit my needs. When I say Deja (as these young folk say) slayed my hair...she slayed my hair. I had the best experience at Cherry's Eye. The ambience is so relaxing. I went in to get my eyebrows microshaded. Cherry explained everything to me step by step. She made sure I was comfortable and relaxed. In a couple of hours I went from no brows to very natural looking brows. It is so wonderful to not have to worry about eyebrows. I used to be late for work because I had to make sure I had penciled in my brows right. Dejah is a very mean spirited person. Did my hair twice wont be back. Was complaining the whole time. She was playing very loud music with lots of profanity. Very loud and for the price your paying it isnt worth it. While washing my hair she kept yelling across the shop to another client which was not relaxing one bit. read more

I want to be fair and detailed in this review, because my experience changed dramatically between…read moremy first and second appointments with Chakay Smith, owner and artist of The Aesthetic Bar. During my first appointment, Chakay Smith was warm, professional, and communicative. The mapping and shape of my eyebrows were done well, and I was included throughout the process. I was shown the design, asked for my input, and felt comfortable and heard. However, once the procedure was complete and I saw the final result, I was immediately alarmed by the color choice, which did not match what I requested or the reference photos we discussed. When I expressed concern, I was reassured that it could be corrected after the six-week healing period and was told, "It's better to correct something that's too light than too dark." While my trust was shaken at that moment, I gave the benefit of the doubt that the correction would be handled willingly. Later, I was informed that a $100 correction fee would apply. I explained that this was not a change of preference, but a color error. I was told customer satisfaction was the goal, and the fee was reluctantly waived. From the moment I arrived for the second appointment, Chakay Smith's demeanor was noticeably different. There was no warm greeting as before. Instead of being taken to the treatment room, I was instructed to remain in the front lobby while numbing cream was applied and told to wait 15 minutes. I waited closer to 30 minutes, while she disappeared into the back. When I was finally taken to the room, communication was minimal. There was no conversation, no check-ins, no mirror offered, and no engagement -- a stark contrast to the first appointment. She left the room multiple times during the procedure, and the overall atmosphere felt tense and unwelcoming. I felt as though my presence was unwanted. When the correction was finished, I was relieved and satisfied with the final color. Wanting to end on a positive note, I asked if I could hug her, and she agreed. Immediately afterward, she sternly pointed at me and the table and stated that any future corrections would require payment for her time, with no exceptions. That moment confirmed what I had felt throughout the entire second appointment -- a complete shift in demeanor from warm and professional to cold and punitive. This review is not about perfection or even the final result, which I am satisfied with. It is about how a client is treated when an issue arises, especially in a service where trust, comfort, and professionalism are critical. The contrast between the two appointments was significant and unsettling. I waited before posting publicly to allow the opportunity for this to be handled privately. I hope future clients receive not only skilled work, but also consistent professionalism and respectful treatment when corrections are needed.

When I arrived expecting to have my eyebrows waxed, Ningma informed me that threading would be best. I informed her that I've never had threading done before and was a little scared. She assured me that she will be as gentle as possible and not to worry. She was absolutely right. She was very gentle and I did not feel any discomfort during the threading. It was a lot better than waxing. She has very good hands and made the process so easy and pain free. I'll never wax my eyebrows ever again. Her studio is very clean and private. Unlike the other places you see in the malls, where there is no privacy. If you are thinking about switching from waxing to threading go see Ningma at Moms Brows & Beauty Lab in downtown Pinole.
