Very nice, overall. I recently came here for my birthday and I had a lovely evening with hubby and some friends who joined us. The service was very cordial and polite. We all shared a couple of orders of the eggplant alla nonna dish as appetizers (DELICIOUS!), along with a few cosmopolitain cocktails (well-prepared). We also ordered the baked, stuffed clams but they were just OK (kind of tasted liked the supermarket, pre-packaged "Matlaw" brand), but other than that, everything was very tasty. The bread served at the table is really delicious, also. A couple of people in my party ordered some different gourmet speciality pizzas, and I had the lobster ravioli. Hubby ordered the lasagna dish, which he said was "outstanding!", and my sister ordered a "Surf & Turf" type dish. The prices are very reasonable, the portions are generous and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The ambiance is well-appointed for an Italian establishment. I came here one other time late last year to meet up with some out-of-town relatives that I don't get to see very often. I was a little disappointed during that visit because there was a male singer/musician performing (very good singer) that night (mid-week) and the crowd seemed to REALLY like him. We all applauded enthusiastically after every song he performed, but, man, .... his amp was LOUD. It made conversing with my those at my table very difficult. Our evening here was almost ruined by the loud music. It is a cosy Italian place with decent food. Huge menu. Friendly service. But for some inexplicable reason they had a DJ playing loud uninteresting songs. You couldn't have a conversation. The DJ was also about 60 years old, which made it even weirder. Good food! The Eggplant alla Nonna is amazing. Italian was the hit, the filet came over done but it was still delicious, thought about sending it back but would have taken too long. The burger was good too, large in size, lots of fries as a side. This wasn't our first time and won't be our last. Real Italian people cook here and the wood at the bar is a cool attraction. read more

For some weeks now, I've been compelled to return to the center of this small town, where I'd spied this lovely little spot with a magnetic charm. Tonight, we ventured from the oft traveled 9W, and into this little place with the charismatic facade. Being a Monday night and on the later side, I was sensitive to inquire whether they were to close sometime soon. Having been a waitress, I've personally been subject to the deflation of delight thinking one might escape on time from work and into the night. My concern was unnecessary; despite being their only table at this time, we were treated like kings. A well rounded menu and lengthy by the glass wine list delighted us. Our waiter, Jay, was a pleasure, and never missed a beat. Excellent service. As for the food, we consider it pretty good. It was filling and pleasing, a bonus being the cleverly paired ingredients. My husband ordered the eggplant alla Nonna, which incorporated avocado into the recipe, something we've never seen in Italian food, but melded so perfectly we wonder why it isn't more commonly added. Lovely flavor. After dinner we were a little bit disappointed that they didn't have port as mentioned on the menu. Amaretto chased those blues away. 2 glasses of wine, risotto appetizer, 2 meals, 2 desserts, and 2 after dinner drinks only came to $93 though, which was an excellent value in our estimation. All in all, this is a friendly little spot with good service, a nice atmosphere, excellent menu, and phenomenal prices. While there are other Italian offerings in the Valley one would consider haute cuisine in comparison, this one has its appeal and is well-rounded otherwise in its positive aspects. Lunch for 2 at this place on Saturday was an epicurian fiasco. The sauce for my eggplant tasted like a creamy vodka sauce which really doesn't work for me with eggplant. The ricotta inside was bland, which for me is the measure of quality rollatini. The second meal was a pasta vongole that was swimming in butter. Forget the negative health implications, the dinner was inedible. My guess is that the regular chef was off because my wife ate there and had a great meal. We'll try again. read more

What a lovely evening we spent at Vigneto! The food was very good, but the atmosphere was what made it: friendly and attentive waitstaff, a clearly local and fond clientele, and most of all, a FABULOUS crooner. Maybe this singer is well-known and beloved by locals, but we stumbled in unsuspecting (from out of town) and were delighted with his smooth voice, extensive repertoire of standards, and his genial rapport with children and adults alike. I dined at Vigneto on an early Friday evening, just before the dinner rush began. Dining solo meant I probably spent more time eavesdropping than I should have but in hindsight I should do that more often to get a better feel of a new place. The seating was self service but no signage to indicate that and the waitress was in the kitchen when I entered. It took long enough for me to be greeted or noticed by the bartender that I had plenty of time for an internal debate as to "should I stay or should I go". The deuce in front of me was a couple who were also dining here for the first time, they asked the server a TON of questions (which was helpful to me). I had been pondering the salmon and felt good about ordering it after the young woman also ordered the grilled salmon with artichokes and white wine. The menu offers a choice of vegetables or pasta, trying to stay low carb I go with the veggies. The bread is offered with a sundried tomato dipping oil served in a silver dressing carafe...it was confusing at first if this was supposed to be for dipping or dressing my dinner salad. I opted for both because I liked it and didn't have to ask what other dressing options were available from the sporadically appearing waitress. My salad arrived looking a little flat. Literally. About halfway through I realized that it is likely that several salads may have been made in advance and stacked before service. While I ate my salad, the entree was delivered to the table in front of me. Immediately the couple had some issues, the most troublesome was the salmon, it was undercooked. The gentleman had a concern with his dish too but decided they wouldn't send it back but the salmon had to be returned to be cooked more. Shortly after that my salmon arrived. Raw and cold in the center. I was dissapointed in the sauce as well, a slight pink hue that looked too heavy to be a white wine sauce and the canned artichokes threw me but the black olive garnish really bothered me. They didn't belong in the dish, perhaps a better olive, piccoline maybe a better choice or a Briney Greek Green but the standard pitted black olive was out of place. I returned the salmon because it was too undercooked. The California medley of frozen vegetables was ok, it's March in the Hudson Valley so fresh seasonal produce pickings are slim. Some forgiveness in the veggies. But.... The salmon that was then later delivered to my table was barely edible and rightly should have been returned again. My original plate was microwaved and brought back, the contents now over cooked and rubbery. And because it had been microwaved sauce, olives and all the entire plate tasted like nuked canned black olives. Honestly, the proper thing to do would have been to start over from scratch, apologize for the error and create a dish worthy of waiting for. I was never asked if the final dish was to my liking, the server never apologized, the chef never made an appearance and no effort was made to make sure I was pleased with my dinner. The staff we quite friendly as a general observation, maybe it was as a solo guest I had that table for one disease. I will likely give the place another shot because several of my friends have spoken so highly about it, maybe it was an off day but I'll be going alone because just in case this IS status quo I don't want to subject my friends to inferior food. read more

Went for lunch after a friend recommended we try it. A warm day in March allowed us to sit outside inside a clear windbreak. Not that many patrons, but our waitor was focused, helpful, and pleasant. Very nice Italian fried Squid appetizer. A fresh house salad, with toasted bread and sundried tomato tapenade oil. We Shared a Pasta Primavera, which was well done, with plenty of garlic. no room for dessert. Ah well, highly recommend you give it a try. We celebrated my sister's birthday here last night and had the best time. Our server Jay was very attentive and provided excellent service. He even helped me set up the balloons behind the table. The food was very good, high remarks for the lobster and cheese ravoli, and penne a la vodka. We all got wine by the glass which were huge and reasonably priced. The best restaurant In town is the one where they know you. Dino is great and buys special cheeses for us knowing that one of us is cow milk intolerant. Great pizzas and the wine pours are generous. Service is always great and the portions are plenty. Debra tells it like it is and you should always ask her what she had for dinner. Music on the weekends and Dino makes everything fresh. Service and food are indifferent. We ordered a pizza and pretty much felt like we had to take care of ourselves as far as getting it to our table. Same with just getting the check, perhaps we should have rung ourselves up and got our change, too. The pizza's flavor was ok, but the crust was like those super-chewy Italian hoagie breads. You really had to gnaw at it like a piece of rawhide to get a bite. I don't know if we'll be back, it really hasn't inspired us to return. read more

This warm and delicious restaurant went above and beyond the call of duty to welcome our family. We arrived after the main dinner hour with two small kids, all four of us very hungry, not to mention cold and unhappy after getting locked out of our car. The entire wait staff made us feel at home and fussed over us, and brought us bread and wine and warm soup and tasty pasta. Even when the locksmith took an extra 2 hours to rescue us, the owner and everyone was extremely thoughtful and concerned about us and the kids. They let us stay late in the cozy restaurant until the car became available again, they offered us every courtesy, and they even gave us consoling hugs when the car-lock ordeal was over. Vigneto offers uncommon service to go along with delicious food. Highly recommended. read more

Went for dinner on Friday evening. I had heard good reviews from friends. The atmosphere was very cozy. We were seated immediately. The wait staff were very attentive. I order the personal pizza with mushrooms, which was the size of a large dinner plate. The pie was delicious!! My friend ordered a chicken dish which was also excellent. Ordered food as takeout which sometimes can be a disappointment, not the case with this restaurant. Two appetizers were fabulous in particular the Risotto Al Zafferano. Fettucine Alfredo with shrimp was very good and shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. We also tried the Jaygerschnitzel which is not typically an Italian dish but it was great, served with spaetzle and mushroom gravy. My husband now says it is his favorite dish. Three strangers to Highland found Vigneto Cafe on a Sunday morning after hiking the Walkway Over the Hudson. Debra was warm, gracious - and even though they don't serve breakfast, she offered to cook bacon and eggs, sausage, egg and cheese wrap, fresh brewed coffee, etc. Well . . . the breakfast was the best any of us have had elsewhere - and the service and warmth couldn't have been better. This used to be a nice place when it opened but I would never go back, nor would the other tables seated around us. Apparently I parked in the unposed back lot of the restaurant and the owner could have ignored it, asked me to move, or are you ready? Called a tow truck while I was eating in his restaurant. Then he yelled at me that I was stupid and we sent the food back and still paid for our full meal and tipped the waitress so he couldn't shortchange her. The owner is a dirtbag and the other guests were also mortified. And they didn't like the food either. I hope the employees find new jobs instead of having to work for this bad person. read more
