Food is good, noisy atmosphere, decor dated.... The food here has consistantly been very good. My husband and I have been coming here for years, usually with family and friends for special events. It's a nice place for sitting by the water outside or inside with the waterview. It used to be called the River View but now, under new management, they dropped the word 'River'. My most recent visit was for a work related reunion, where everyone got the same meal. The restaurant did an excellent job, the food was delicous as always. My only disappointment with this event was that not all the dinners were presented at the same time. First, all the salmon orders were served while everyone else waited. Then all the chicken dinners were served, and the beef dinners were last. By the time the beef was served, the first dinners were done. We (I had the salmon) waited for awhile to be polite, but when we saw that the food was getting cold, we slowly started to eat. It seemed to be a very disorganized setup for this kind venue. Usually a whole table is served at the same time. Another issue with this restaurant is the noise level. Voices just echo all over and to speak to people at your table, you almost have to yell. Not fun! The decor is getting a little dated and is starting to look messy. The details are not being taken care of, like a dirty fence area near the front door where garbage is kept. Do they need this by the front door? Also, in the lobby, a coat-check room had the door open and the place was a mess. Boxes were all thrown around with mops, and "stuff" - not really sure why. Maybe the manager needs to get after the help and clean the place up! Will we return here? Probably. My recommendation: Go on nice day and have a drink outdoors! read more

This my 3rd review about this place and I still can't give more than 2**. Went there on 8/18/2018 a Saturday. Restaurant opened at 6pm so I made a reservation at 6. Arrived and got seated outside as per request. The manager comes over presents himself greets us and than send the waitress over. She takes the order and everything is on a roll. The weather wasn't cooperating so we had a thunderstorms on our way. Rain wasn't bothering me at all. Now there is where everything went downhill!!! The gazebo tent broke and all the water that was collected came down like a waterfall. Everybody from the staff scrambled, not helping the patrons but getting inside the restaurant or just taking pictures with their phones. Did anyone offered us to get inside and finish our meals in humane matter? NO. Did anyone came to the table to see if everything was ok after the waterfall? NO. I had to ask the bus girl to go inside cause I wasn't able to finish my food on the patio which was flooded with water. She fixed a table by the bar area. So she got the 2** of this review. Did anybody offered an apology for what happened? You guessed it! NO. The manager that greeted us at the start of the meal came back and asked if everything was fine after he had seen us inside. I replied yes. He asked I he clear the table I also replied yes. No buser no waitress the manager is clearing the table. Well great what can I ask for more? Ah the check. To the MANAGER: Honestly this is the third strike sir!!! Driving an hour and 30 minutes to eat there and the amount of money spent, is a waste of both money and time. read more

I was there yesterday for lunch, as far as the complaints about the prices, I don't feel the place was that expensive, given it's location, decor and time of year. I will say that the back of the house is far behind the front of the house. Meaning other than the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail, there was nothing noteworthy about our meal. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and served at the perfect temperature, nothing I hate more than chewy shrimp in a shrimp cocktail. The vegetables in our entrées tasted like they put an aluminum carry out container on a burner and cook them in that, actually that is exactly what they tasted like. I don't understand the thought behind the vegetables. The piece of salmon for my lunch wasn't cooked the way I begged it to be cooked and it was the smallest piece of salmon I have ever been served for lunch or dinner. My girlfriend steak was also nowhere near the temperature requested. One of the clams in the six clams on the half shell I ordered was rancid. Wine by the glass was very good and the service was very good. Had a table by the window and it was a beautiful day. Long drive for us so probably won't be going back. read more

We had a mixed bag of an experience, but overall it was pleasant. We were a family of 8, celebrating a birthday with a 5pm Sunday dinner reservation. The restaurant is obviously very beautiful with wonderful views, and the hostess/manager gave us a FANTASTIC table. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous - intimate tables near a fireplace and waterfall, open air tables in the middle, a cute bar area, and great tables on the dock outside. There's definitely something for everyone. We were surprised that the only chicken dish on the menu wasn't available as they had run out, especially considering they had only opened at 4pm for dinner and there was only one other group in the dining room besides us at 5pm. Our meals, which ranged from the scallops to skirt steak to pasta, were all delicious and well cooked. One of our guests asked for a side of butternut squash (part of the special entree of the evening) with his meal, and we were told the chef said no. After a chat with the hostess/manager, they accommodated the request but I still found it odd that the chef had only accounted for "enough for the specials" when, again I'll mention, it was pretty dead in there. We were there pretty late and it never filled up, so I'm not sure what he was holding back for but we were appreciative of the manager and our waitress Sam for helping us out. They brought out a candle for the birthday girl, desserts were great, and we left with smiles on our faces. Would definitely return for drinks and the view! read more

Things started off promising. The appetizers special was really god bacon wrapped shrimp and the oysters were great . We waited quite a bit of time for the entrées. When the entrées arrived my wife did not get what she was supposed to receive. On the other hand I had this tuna a la plan ha. This dish was very exotic. The staff was okay but I wouldn't give this place another try. I guess you can say that I have high standards. To be fair, I will say the problem was more with the service not the food. With the mistakes that was made I would have thought they would have taking care of those mistakes on the check but they did not. Tried this first for restaurant week with my boyfriend in the winter. Loved the food and it was beautiful. Our drinks were good but our waitress wasn't friendly and didn't check on us much (maybe since we are young and it was restaurant week?) My boyfriend's steak was also missing ssomething. We tried again this past weekend it again because we wanted to see it during the summer. We were surprised to see the night life and dancing at 8 on a Friday. Our waitress, Michelle, was very friendly and checked on us frequently. She refilled our drinks and water promptly. Our food was amazing and drinks again we're delicious. The music from the bar dancing area in the front was not too loud while we were eating which was good. The ambiance and view of the water are nothing short of stellar. The staff is always friendly and courteous and you will always get service with a smile. The managers are fabulous people, always friendly and accommodating and you can always see them stopping from table to table to inquire as to how everyone is enjoying everything. There is nothing I could possibly suggest to improve this place, it's perfect as it is. Someonme recommended the Snapper next door but they were closed on Mondays. So we came here. It is a pretty big restaurant and there were more customers in the bar side than restaurant side. On the waiter's recommendation we had a Peiking duck taco apertizrer which was pretty good. There were three pieces and we were a table of 4. A more attentive waiter would have the kitchen make 4. The calimari dish was a bit too sweet for my taste. The fluke main course I had was right on and the lobster special at $25 others ordered was a great price. The view from The View is great. The food is good not great. The service tonight was slow. They had a wedding going on and did not have the proper staffing. They should know to plan ahead. Some of our dishes were not prepared properly. Shrimp prepared dry came out and need to go back. One of our party ordered steak rare and it came out super well done. Made reservations for a anniversary dinner and after reading some of the poor reviews here had some doubts. However, in spite of the fact that it was a Friday night reservation on Labor Day weekend, the View met AND exceeded my expectations. All of the food we experienced was delicious, served very well with only minimal waiting time. I had the seared scallops on a bed of truffled lobster risotto. The risotto was cooked perfectly as were the scallops which are tricky to do properly. My wife has the lobster pasta dish which was also exceptional and the duck taco appetizer was excellent. I think that the simple size of this restaurant may be working against it. Not sure what the capacity is, but the place seems huge! And the bar scene is really big and jumping as was the outdoor seating area. If the place seats 100-150 for dinner, then service is going to be a issue at times. Our waitress Katie was sweet and good on a very busy night. I'm guessing that the waiters and bus people probably number 20-30 which is a large operation which will at times result in poor service. And the parking is only by valet due to space restrictions which is a pain for just restaurant dining. All in all, I'd say visit the View for a great meal, but if you go there on a weekend, service might be a tad slow. but then again, what popular busy restaurant wouldn't? read more

This restaurant used to be one of my favorites until the Lessings bought it. Last night was the worst night I've ever had an a restaurant. 630 reservation ordered French onion soup and it took over an hour to come out. The place was half empty at that time so there was no reason for the remark from the waitress to say the kitchen is backed up. What a joke! I should've looked up the reviews on yelp before ordering the lobster pasta. This was a joke. I don't think there was one ounce of lobster in the meal. There was no roasted corn no roasted onions it was just hard in edible pasta. It was so undercooked it was bouncing off my plate. My husband and brother ordered the cod special. It look like it was raw and had no seasonings at all on it. The lobster bisque had no lobster in it and was tasteless as the other diner left half of it in the bowl. A 630 reservation and we only left at 8:30. No one knew what they were doing. It was a hectic frantic unsupervised night. Never to return again! The Ladies room was so filthy there was urine all over the floor and no towels to wipe your hands. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in days. Your people should be ashamed! read more

Yes, this restaurant has a great view of the water, and the food is OK. The main complaint is THEY CHARGE TO USE A CREDIT CARD. Look for places that honor their agreements with the credit card companies. The other thing to do is to tip less, and preserve your finances. If you would normally leave a 20% tip, leave 15%. You might say that you are cheating the wit staff, but the management is cheating everyone, customers included with this practice. read more

Just left dinner. I dislike when a restaurant does not let you order an appetizer first, then decide on an entree. The waitress claimed the kitchen prefers both at the same time to execute the meal. Then my boyfriend's sushi appetizer did not come with the other appetizers. So one person did not have food. The sushi appetizer finally arrived 10 mins later. Dinner came and another sushi order came. The person serving our meals had the orders all confused. So much for the kitchens "execution." We were seated near the aisle/walkway and my boyfriend's mother's chair kept getting bumped into. Overall annoying experience. If I'm paying top dollar for a meal I want to order when I want. Came here for the first time this June for a wedding and am happy to see such a nice hidden gem! The restaurant itself is very nautical and right on the water, a perfect location for a wedding! The rooms are very airy and it was beautifully decorated. The area outside was right on the water and made for a very cool ceremony. The drinks were really good, especially the rum punch, along with the food! Everything was great, only complaint is that the building itself doesn't flow very well for weddings (the bar is in a separate room from the reception and the outdoor space makes it easy for groups to become separated) but still a fabulous place! Started off with a watered down Mojito. Next came 2 crab cakes that were actually very good. My main entree was the grilled shrimp ($34). 6 of the blandest tasting shrimp I've ever had. Served over a bed of soggy Orzo swimming in some kind of lame broth. My wife had the tortilla crusted Fluke $28, which she thought were delivered by the Gorton's Fisherman...2 rectangular deep fried patties that resembled roof shingles. We actually complained to the waitress about how disappointing the food was. Didn't really care much... Now to the atmosphere...there were young waitresses & bus boys running all over the place, very noisy, bad choice of '80s music in the background, and the staff were moving & bouncing large chairs right past our table. I've been here a few times, but this is my first review of the place. I see restaurant reviews where people will tell you what the place looks like. I don't feel its necessary unless a place is a dive. BUT, i will say, THE VIEW of this place is awesome, overlooking the Connetquot River! I HIGHLY recommend the Lobster Bisque, it is to die for!! My only complaint about the place was that they have a limited menu, and they don't change it often. We had gone our first time, and then went for our 2nd time 9 months later, and the menu was the same. This is one of those places that does change its menu, they just don't change it often enough. I would only go back if the menu has been changed. All in all, food was delicious, and that's really all its about. :-) read more

Just had a great business lunch at The View today. We decided to sit at the bar. Our bartender was Diane. She was great! The view of the Great South Bay from the bar was great. It is worth it just to come to the VIEW for the VIEW...even if you just come for drinks. They had a GREAT sushi menu that we ordered off of. We ordered several rolls and each was better than the next. I was very surprised at how fresh and delicious the sushi was. We ordered crab salads...3 to be exact. Nothing but fresh crab in a bowl. Simply incredible! We ordered shrimp coctails...The shrimps were the size of a babys arm!!! I will be coming back for a dinner with my wife for sure! I live a few towns over and I can not believe that I have never been here before. I will be back for sure! read more

Last night we ended up at The View in Oakdale though if wasn't our intention but boy did we end up enjoying this wonderful restaurant. We arrived after sunset so we didn't get to actually enjoy the "view" as it is situated right on the water. The staff was amazing and attentive and supported our choices for appetizers, crab cakes and lobster mac and cheese which were perfect for the 4 of us. The waitress helped guide us with our choices for dinner which included a filet mignon cooked to perfection, short ribs special which was off the charts and a shrimp and pasta special that came to the table with clams instead of shrimp. The server had apparently taken the wrong dish from the kitchen but without much concern on our part as my friend likes clams too, the correct dish was delivered in a matter of minutes with apologies and we were told to enjoy the extra plate! A kale salad was enjoyed by all as well. I cannot express how good our dinners were! We finished up with sharing a dessert called "Dancing with the Devil" which was more than enough for the four of us after this wonderful dinner! We all look forward to returning to this gem of restaurant when we can also enjoy "the View" as well! read more

Went here 12/15/19 for my husbands birthday with his family. We've come here 3 times prior and never had a horrific dinner except for today. Appitizers had come out great I shared the duck tacos with my husband which were fantastic, then dinner came. I ordered the Maine lobster pasta, along with my father-in-law who has been dying to try it ( which ive ordered every time I had gone there), everyone else had ordered a selection of steak. Well the Pasta came out cold, and the fresh pasta was raw. We had called over the server to let ber know both were cold and pasta was raw, only to be send back and brought back out a minute later coming out exactly the same way! Everyone who ordered the steak had said their cut was very chewy. The "manager" had then come over to see what the problem was, as my mother-in-law was explaining to her how I am 9 months pregnant and I shouldnt be sitting with no dinner she quickly responded "i have a kid too of my own" Really not the proper response back to what she was trying to say then rolled her eyes. We wound up ordering 2 cesar salads that were over dressed and 2 lobster bisques that were unedable as well. We had noticed that there was also a large holiday party that night as well so it shows that the kitchen cannot handle pressure of catering to a 40 person party, as well as paying patrons of a party of 7. My wife hosted our daughters bridal shower here this past Sunday. The room was decorated beautifully, the staff treated everyone great, and from what everyone told me the food was great. I was in the View last evening having dinner with a good friend , the bar area is very nice and the bartender Carol was friendly and offered quick service , I met both managers Joe Scalice and Jimmy , they were constantly checking on all the patrons to see that all were happy . Our waitress Nicole was very sweet and helpful . We had suchi "lobster out" which was delicious and some oysters for appetizers , I had swordfish for my main course and I tasted some of my friends strip steak , both were excellent . Beautiful spot, impeccable decor inside, with amazing water views surrounding, and nice deck and dock area with boats. The bar is very good, nice, with good service. The main dining area again, is just so beautiful, light, open, clean lines... Very nicely done with an open air water feel to it. Great service, wine dejection, and our food from apps to mains, fish, lobster paella, Filet Mignon, raw clams, etc etc.. were spot on delicious. My first time here, and certainly not my last. This place is really nice. The outdoor patio is open right to the water where boats can pull up and be served also. The food is very fresh and tasty, and drinks are made well. We had a waitress named brittany who was very attentive and friendly. Parking at the restaurant was a breeze as well. They also have an indoor area for when the weather doesnt agree with outdoor seating. Will certainly return to dine again, maybe even on a boat! read more
