The food I got here was great. We actually came here during their dragon dance for New Years and it was one of the best ones I've seen. Lasted about 45 minutes and the kids were entertained the entire time. On to the real reason , food was fantastic! Bo luc lac was cooked to perfection! Medium on the inside with a nice crisp sear. Very flavorful and the salt/pepper with lime dipping sauce just enhanced the flavors! Fried lobster was also one of my favorite dishes here! Lobsters cut up and fried with onions, garlic, and other seasoning. The lobster meat was very tender and fresh. I even dipped it in the lime juice that came with the bo luc lac and-wow! Two lobsters per order, its a must try if you love lobsters and thank me later! Eggrolls are also good, the shell is light and crispy with some quality ingredients. I'll be back for sure! read more

I absolutely love Vietopia. Sammi and the workers absolutely take care of you as if you're family. The food is great. We especially love the bo luc lac with either fried rice or French fries. The Peking duck is also amazing as well as the chicken wings. If you're vegetarian or just want to eat healthier, I'd totally recommend the dau hu (tofu) luc lac with vermicelli. My friends and I have been here many times and it's always a great experience. Alcohol-wise, Michael makes the absolute best drinks. TLDR: awful business practice, price gouging. The food is good. However. They also charge 13 dollars for exactly 1 banana (first cut the long way. Then halved to appear more.) That's just bad business practice. What's more, the price isn't displayed on the menu, which is fine i guess but in no way should ONE banana be 13 dollars. Never in my wildest dream would I think of that. And this is all assuming the plate is good. But it isn't. 1. The banana was made from frozen (why else would it take 15 minutes?) 2. I have been coming to Vietopia for years, first at their old location and now at their new location. The owners are truly the nicest and most generous people! The food is always fresh, fast, and the restaurant is very clean. I love that they give back to the community by holding their annual Lunar New Year celebration with lion dancers, and they have given countless donations to our children's school whenever we have asked. The price for this place was insane. Or the owner just ripped me off! I use to come here allllllll the time about four years ago. I just recently moved back into the area. I ordered two phos, order of egg rolls, and one extra container of broth. The total was $53 dollars. I told them that wasn't my order. She took back the receipt to "adjust" the price. It came down to $47. Then when I texted my concierge in my building to see if he's ever heard of such a thing. He replied,"yes it happens there all the time with our others." Pho tai meat was placed inside the Togo container with the hot broth. Meaning by the time I got home the meat was extremely well done. When I asked for a Togo menu and stated that I'll be ordering from here from now on the owners response was that it is available to look at online. She had her daughter who is about 11 check me out while a server was standing there watching. Unprofessional and insane pricing. The pho broth was way to sweet. The noodles were under cooked. There was a decent amount of meat and they did include a good amount of vegetables. Too bad this is the only pho place opened until 10:30 in this area . I will never go back here. This is crazy! I usually have the "Flaming Tofu" (which in my opinion is the BEST in Houston) or the Vegetarian Pho but I just found out they are doing to-go prep "fit-meals" ..... YASSS$!!!!! I had the tofu/veggie meals since I'm a vegetarian and my husband had the filet mignon/ veggies and brown rice. It was feaken delicious !!! My new go to place for prepped meals. I was shopping at Kroger and started craving pho, so I came here hoping to get my fix. Of course I expected high prices considering the location, but I wasn't expecting the incredibly small portions of the dishes I ordered. I tried their chicken lettuce wraps as an appetizer. When it came out I was utterly disappointed. There was barely anything on the plate! Very unimpressive. It was literally an "appetizer", barely enough for even a small child. For the same $8 I could most likely get more elsewhere. At least the flavor was good though, and they didn't skimp on the lettuce pieces. Also tried their pho tai. Once again, I didn't expect it to be on par with pho from bellaire, but what came out was even lower than my low expectation! They had an okay amount of the eye round steak in there, but the amount of pho in there was literally like a kids meal version. If XS sized bowls of pho existed, it would've been just that. The broth itself ran a bit on the sweet side. I would add more salt or extra limes. Anyways the environment is very relaxing and laid back. There is wifi for customers to use. The password is kinda funny though so I'll let y'all ask the servers yourselves so you can laugh about it. Would I come back though? Maybe not unless I was desperate. Eat here regularly. Always good. They have been great about phone/curbside orders! I usually get the Pad Thai or a grilled beef with the pressed rice noodles ... both always good and consistent. New location is easy to get to and right by the old location. If you use Apple Maps, the address isn't updated there so ... don't get confused. Because of their location, within the city, especially right off buffalo speedway, the rent is not cheap. When you have convenience you're going to pay for it. I've had countless conversations with friends over time vs money. The cost to travel to bellaire, etc. If it's just myself, I think I'd rather just say in the city if I can find comparable tasting food because I do not have to waste gas, headaches with bellaire construction and the overall time it takes to get there. Also, often times the service is just not as good. So I come here. It's more fine dine Vietnamese. I had the tomato fried rice with 4 different meats: Chicken, Beef, Pork, and shrimp paste. I heard of this place in a rather unconventional way when they were on the news...so of course I had to support the business! At that time, they were take-out only and I have continued to get take-out. I was missing my mom's home-cooked Vietnamese food and Vietopia hit the spot. I came back for the canh chua (hot and sour soup) 3 separate times already because it is so. dang. good. Their phở tái bò viên (beef flank and meatballs) only comes in a large size, which is probably twice the amount I'd normally eat, but it was so delicious that I finished the whole thing. I got bún thịt nớng (grilled pork with vermicelli) once and it was a great dish, but I found the pork to be a little overcooked and dry. If you're feeling adventurous and want to eat like a real Viet, their cá kho tộ (clay pot fish) is extremely flavorful and fish saucey! A little portion with a lot of rice will fill you up quick. Granted it's in a nicer part of town than Little Saigon on Bellaire, so expect to pay a little more than what you're used to paying for Vietnamese food. I just want to say that in these weird covid times, please be respectful toward your fellow neighbors and shopkeepers who have scraped by when everything else was closed. We're all humans, and there's no excuse for verbal abuse toward store owners who look different than you. If it weren't for them, we'd all be eating bland food! I came here for lunch as it is the halfway point b/w my work and the wife's. Their lunch menu has a range of entrees for $8.50. You can choose classic vietnamese rice dishes, vermacelli bowls, vietnamese noodle soup (pho), or chinese dishes. We went with the chargrilled pork and rice dish (Com thit Nuong). The dish came with a spring roll, which was served moments after the order was taken. The peanut sauce was warm and all of the ingrediends were quite fresh. The entree came only a few minutes later, so their service is blazing fast during lunch time. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes. The portion size was very large and I was comfortably full after the meal. They give you a choice of three types of rice with this particular dish. The options include White rice, brown rice, or tomato flavored rice. The white rice was full grain and not crushed like traditional vietnamese rice. To me, this is a slight knock as it takes away some of the authenticity. Don't get me wrong, this place is clearly tailored for westerners and I am keeping that in mind as I do this review. The pork was an orange tint, which I am not used to. The flavoring was very sweet and did not have that chargrilled taste I have come to expect from traditional thit nuong. I must say that I was a bit dissappointed in the flavor, it was much too sweet for my taste. They do give you a lot of meat which is a plus, but much of it was a bit too fatty in my opinion. For $8.50, this price may seem steep for vietnamese food. But considering the portion size and location, I think this is pretty fair. The free spring roll helps soften the blow as well. I will definitely come back, as the vermacelli dish looked exceptional. I will however try their beef or chicken the next time, as I was dissappointed with the pork. 3 stars for now read more

Had beef pho and shaking beef. I just wasted calories. They mist think Americans don't know what pho and shaking beef should taste like. The broth was not slowly simmered beef bones, taste like it came from a packaged. The round eye meat used is cheap beef, it should be filet Mignon or ribeye meat. Shaking beef should be on a bed or leafy lettuce, jalapeños, tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, etc not on a bed of cheap lettuce head. I say all this because I'm Vietnamese. read more
