Visited this Pho place for the first time recently and was favorably impressed with most things. Firstly it's an authentic Pho restaurant-- I say this because many Asian restaurants in this location lack authenticity but Viet kitchen Saigon seems to have hit the spot. Service is prompted with water as well as an explanation of some of the items on the menu, which is great if you're new to the menu items. I ordered the spring rolls and the pho special which were promptly served with very clean plates and bowls. Moreover, the utensils are also ultra clean with the chop sticks which are sealed in a paper packet. I found the food very easy on the eye and tasty, with extra veggies added if you need it, such as mint etc. Seating arrangements is also very good with a nice mix of seats and table sets. Overall I think Viet Kitchen Saigon seems very comfortable and clean and the food is very good. The restaurant is very conveniently located just off the freeway with ample parking in a large strip mall with a gas station nearby so it's a perfect (safe) place to rest up if you're commuting or on a day trip. There is only a handful of Vietnamese restaurants in VC that I like so when I'm in the area I always make a point to stop here since I usually only get their takeout or delivery. But IMO it can't compare to eating a hot bowl of noodle soup fresh from the kitchen. It just tastes so much better. I arrived shortly after opening and was told to sit wherever I wanted. Although I was able to get my order in about 5 minutes, the food came out a little bit slower than expected considering I was the only one there at that time. The Korean BBQ chicken wings came out first, it was so yummy. They have other flavors too but this was my favorite. The Hue Style Spicy Noodle Soup was flavorful but very mild on the spice level even with the slices of jalapeno added to the soup. They definitely could have kicked it up a notch. The Vietnamese ice coffee was very good, strong and sweet. The coffee and condensed milk flavors can be quite strong for some people so I recommend letting the ice melt a bit before drinking it. Ive never had any issue with service, sometimes the person taking the order is different from the one serving your food, but they check on you regularly and I've always had a good experience. read more

First time dining here. This must be the most laid back staff I have ever experienced. I didn't get my server's name but she literally took 30 minutes to come take my order (after I was seated). *I was the ONLY customer there up to that point. Finally she came over and I ordered 1 item (no drinks, only #11 Pho SG). Then a group of people came in and were seated next to my table. She took their order within 5 minutes. Within 10 minutes she started bringing their food to their table. Then she looks over at me and said that my order was next. *I am a little fuming at this point* Then she walks over with a bowl of pho and said here is your chicken pho. I promptly replied, I didn't order Chicken Pho...I ordered #11. Then she realizes its for the table next to me. After several rounds of her bringing food to the other table.... *I was literally beyond fuming* When I finally got my pho, she did apologize saying she was confused. And I'm like....lady you had one job to do (in my head). I was being polite and didn't want to start anything. So the food was ok...nothing different than other places or memorable. As I was eating, there were no follow ups or asking if I needed anything else. Literally this lady disappeared into the backroom and I can hear her talking to others working there. I finished eating. I had an idea it would take a long time for her to bring my check. So I proceeded to their kitchen area and said to please check me out. They were literally just talking hanging out. I was there for over an hour to eat a bowl of pho. I would not be coming back. *And I recommend you check out Love Pho down the street. The broth was flavorful and inviting, clear with proper seasoning and spice (not heat). There were 3 large oxtail with generous meat. The order of tendon was generous as well and super tender and delicious. The green iced tea was floral and a nice accompaniment to the meal. The spring rolls were well made and I enjoyed the well made sauce. The employees were friendly and attentive. The tables are well kept and clean. The restaurant is clean, organized and neat. Food was terrible, we ordered the dry nice noodles which was okay. The other dish is Hue" Style Spicy Noodle Soup" which was very salty, fishy taste. It was supposed to come with tender beef and crab cake but there were no crab cakes, they gave us like two beef balls which tasted horrible. The entire bowl was filled with mostly broth, one or two ounces of noodles, exactly 3 super thin slices of beef, and 2 beef balls for $15 + tax. We asked if we could get some extra lime or lemon ‍ to clear the salty broth, they said they would have to charge us extra. I was so SHOCKED. WOW I wish i could give this restaurant negative stars. The server told us that the restaurant charges extra for every single thing. Every condiment plate is a fixed portion, 3 slices of jalapeño, HALF wedge of lemon, I mean HALF WEDGE . And anything asked extra will be charged. I asked is that why the restaurant is slow, the server nodded her head and looked at the Vietnamese owner. If You Sit in the Front, It's Zen. If You Sit in the Back, It's Vietnam. My son and daughter-in-law love this restaurant. In fact, they made me promise not to leave a bad review before they brought me here. Fortunately, I don't have to break that promise--the food is genuinely good. I've only tried the noodle dishes so far (pho and vermicelli), but each has been well-balanced, clean-tasting, and satisfying. Good ratios of broth to solids, proteins to carbs, and flavor to salt. No complaints on the food. The in-house experience, though, depends entirely on where you sit. Let me explain. The main dining area up front is calm, with banquettes along the windows and a large wall-mounted screen quietly playing mesmerizing videos of Vietnamese cooking, farming, and street food prep. It's the kind of thing that makes your noodles taste better just from the ambiance. Sit here, and you'll likely leave feeling nourished in more ways than one. But if the front tables are full--and they often are--you'll be seated in what I'll generously call the functional wing. This is the area just past the "admin station" where you either pay at a counter or get handed an iPad. Behind that is a hallway of two tables near the service area, a compact 10x10 staging room where most of the behind-the-scenes chaos happens. I sat in the banquette along the wall, facing the beverage and condiment station, with a direct view of what keeps this place running. On our most recent visit (8/2/25), the kitchen was cranking out bánh mì for to-go orders at a speed that could give Subway a complex. I wouldn't be surprised if they wrapped 20 sandwiches while we sat there. This back section gives you a front-row seat to the operational grind. A middle-aged man in a baseball cap seems to act as the traffic cop--fielding calls, prepping boba, moving bags, and standing right in the doorway that everyone else needs to pass through. Despite being asked to scoot repeatedly (at least 50 "excuse mes"), he stayed planted. Add to this a small rotating crew: a woman about his age who waits tables, a teenage girl bussing and fetching, and a young male server who also manages tables. There's a sort of staging buffet along the wall with baskets for napkins, utensils, and condiments. Our order came out correctly, and drinks were refilled without prompting, which earns points in my book. But the energy in this area is undeniably tense. During our meal, we witnessed the young girl get verbally dressed down so harshly by the older woman that she burst into tears and fled to the bathroom. It was uncomfortable to watch. Whatever the context, berating junior staff--especially in full view of customers--isn't good management; it's just bad business. So yes, the food is solid. But unless you're looking to witness the pressures of small-business survival in real time, I recommend asking for a seat up front. read more

I've been visiting Viet Kitchen pretty much since they opened. They have a variety of Vietnamese dishes , primarily you'll come to get the Pho - which is pretty dang good or even their Banh Mi (sandwiches) - which I think are the best in Ventura county. The food is authentic and I just went in for lunch again today and noticed they've made some investments in a new sign and menu update. It's looking great and also seems to be catering to their audience quite well. I think when they first opened they were still balancing the line between Vietnamese authenticity and a Newbury Park crowd but they seem to be leaning towards making a experience that suits the customer base and I honestly think it works. It's small detail things like moving away from plastic bowls for serving to ceramic and the small improvements may be something newer customers notice, but I imagine comes from their work and effort in continuously improving the business and trying new things. For example they have a newer egg roll that would appeal to an American audience and the newer food trends going on in the Asian American food diaspora. You notice these things as a foodie, so hoping this place continues to evolve and adapt as time goes on. Still my top Vietnamese place in Newbury Park/TO area. read more

We didn't expect Viet Kitchen Newbury to be so good, so far from the SGV and right smack in the middle of a very non-Asian area. But it is. The beef brisket pho was very good. Flavorful broth with plentiful pieces of tender brisket. We also got the shaking beef rice plate, which is also very good. Nice chinch's of perfectly flavored tenderloin and not sliced meat that some other places might call shaking beef. It came with a crisp and refreshing salad. I ordered delivery through DoorDash and everything arrived safely. The noodles were not too firm but just the right amount of sponginess you want. A good amount of meat + variety was included as well, although I would've liked more soup. The soup itself wasn't too flavorful (personally I like allowing the individual flavors of the meat to carry the dish so this was okay). Potstickers didn't have that "crounch", but that did not diminish the flavor of them. Good blend of meat to wrap ratio. The sauce is a sort of vinegar soy sauce, not for me but adds a layer of flavor to them. The coffee was what you'd expect, this one was a little darker than I would've liked though. I was craving pho and after reading all the reviews decided to pop into Viet Kitchen for some much-needed goodness! I would warrant taking my review with a grain of salt as I grew up in the SoCal mecca of Viet cuisine - San Gabriel Valley. Walking in we received a lackluster greeting and was gestured to pick any seat. While I first thought the seating area was really cool, rounded with glass windows and plenty of seating options, after sitting down it felt a little crowded. Part of the reason why might have been that there was no music playing at all so we could hear our neighbor's conversations and their slurpege. Onto the food... spring roll appetizers were pretty refreshing, the peanut sauce was delicious. I ordered the #12 Pho Viet Kitchen SG, which I assume would've normally been the "combination" pho in other restaurants. I thought it was reasonably priced until to my surprise it only includes 3 meats (with the option to add more). The options were Eye Round, Brisket, Flank, Meat Balls, Tripe, and Tendon. This was unfamiliar to me as usually a combination pho includes at least Meat Balls, Tripe, Tendon, and Eye Round. I decided to go with the Eye Round, Brisket, Flank, and added on Tendon. After paying for our meal we found out that adding another meat option is $3, not too worth it in my opinion. Overall the meat was tender and the noodles were cooked well. I was mostly looking forward to the soup but found it lacking flavor. My husband ordered the chicken pho, and again while the chicken and noodles were pretty good, the soup didn't have any depth. Towards the end of the meal, we waited a while for the check (after asking for to-go boxes) and were finally notified that we were supposed to pay at the counter. This was confusing as everything indicated that it was more of a sit-down experience (ordering at the table, servers bringing you things, etc.). Not a big deal at all, just odd, and would've liked to know before waiting a while. Service, in general, wasn't too attentive and after one time our water was never refilled and we had to get up to find them a few times. While I don't typically expect much from an Asian restaurant in terms of hospitality, I do make a note of their efficiency! Overall it was an okay experience. First time ordering here. I ordered two beef and rice dishes, a pho, and egg rolls. For one of the beef dishes I ordered extra beef. They charged me an extra $4 for it which is fine. However, we couldn't even tell which dish had the extra beef. This place must think we are either stupid or desperate. There are plenty of better tasting and better priced Vietnamese restaurants around here (love pho was closed or I would have gone there instead). I've been driving by this spot for awhile now & I kept meaning to give them a try but would forget. Finally I was sitting at home and craving a warm bowl of soup but was too lazy to go out. I wonder if Viet was on DoorDash and low and behold they were! Score! While I can't speak to the restaurant dining experience, I feel confident that based on the delivery and food I have good sense for how this spot runs. First bonus was getting a perfectly packaged meal from them. You know when the delivery gods include a hearty amount of sauces, utensils, and everything is packaged beautifully (no spills or leaks). Clearly Viet is amazing for take out as they take good care of your order and don't skimp! The food was so delicious and comforting. Exactly what I had hoped for and now I know I have to go back in person because when delivery can be a 10/10, that means dining in is like a 20/10! Egg rolls: perfectly crispy and flaky. The brisket was sliced thin and tasted great with the noodles and veggies. All I can say is this was a stellar pho. The only item that I felt was just "okay" was their special fried rice. Maybe it was just a little more on the dry side for me? I think I just enjoy a Cantonese fried rice more but for some I think they'd be perfectly okay with this dish. Chicken pho: huge portion of noodles. They could've easily given me 50% less and I would've been happy. The toppings were fresh and tasty and the broth was a solid 8/10. It's just a bit too sweet for my liking but that's just me being a scaredy cat with the chili sauce. Cream cheese wontons: light, crispy, dangerous. I looked down and ate 7 of them without realizing. Filling was your standard cream cheese that just hits the spot Steamed veg: So fricking good. Perfect amount of crunch so I just chucked it in the pho so it could soak up the brothy goodness Tea (iced): it's advertised as green tea and I'm pretty sure it's jasmine. So my hubby loves Bahn Mi. Frankly he loves good sandwiches and is really good at making specialty sandwiches himself. So when he compliments a sandwich it's worth writing about. Grilled pork Bahn Mi had crusty bread on the outside with not too much doughy bread inside, which allowed for a great bed for the grilled meat and fresh vegetables. I had a bite. It had great texture, the crunch of the pickled vegetables and the basil with the pork made for a really great morsel with a variety of textures and flavors. My spring roll was substantial. It was my whole lunch. Their peanut dipping sauce is awesome. It used to be that they would take your order at the table, but now you order at the counter and they bring it to your table.
