    Yummy Pho Ga
    Scott B.

Viet Kitchen serves up tasty Vietnamese food in a no nonsense, non-pretentious atmosphere. It's the perfect place for a tasty vermicelli noodle bowl, pho or noodle soup, and spring rolls (fresh or fried). I had the Pho Ga (Vietnamese chicken rice noodle soup), and it was off-the-chain. The pho broth was among the most authentic I've had!! If you order the pho, I think you'll be pleased. One final shout out goes to the staff. They were all super nice, very knowledgeable about the menu selections, and very attentive at all times. The bottom line = if you want authentic Vietnamese food and aren't worried about atmosphere, check this place out.

While I was at work in Mandeville I needed a quick pit stop for lunch. Enter Viet kitchen in a little shopping center. Walking into the restaurant, I felt as if I was yelling across the hallway as the host area was in the back next to the kitchen. I walked to the back to order a banh mi neo nuong and a taro bubble tea. The taro bubble tea came out unblended but as a milk tea which was fine until the bubbles. The bubbles tasted overcooked and was not edible at times. The flavor was nice but was made from mainly powder. I received my banh mi and took it to go back to work. The banh mi itself was stiff and inedible. I was disappointed in the bread as the contents of the grill pork was beautiful. If they had a better baked bread or one that was fresh, the banh mi would have been pristine. Overall this is not the worst I have ever had, but a little bit of upgrades would help bring this place up.

Their charred pork vermicelli was very tasty. The pork was super flavorful and melted in my mouth. The chopped eggrolls were super flavorful and had a great texture. They gave me plenty of sauce to go with the Bun. Really filling. I wish that they had drained the noodles better though because they were more wet than sticky. Also adding more cilantro would be nice. Will be back though!

couldn't find the original pic but this was chicken and veggie pho!

It's really an overall good stop if you're in the mood for Vietnamese food. It's not over the top, yet it's palate pleasing just enough to consider eating here more than once.

Viet Kitchen is awesome! The Northshore has always had many great Thai restaurants, but never any Vietnamese places. It seems like we have finally caught up with the Southshore with several new places opening up in the past year. I've tried them all multiple times and I am happy to report that Viet Kitchen is my favorite. Food - Unlike many people who write reviews, I don't claim to be an expert on any cuisine. I do know what I like and Viet Kitchen cooks what I like. Pho - The broth is rich, complex and authentic. I could eat this broth alone or without any additional sauce. The addition of some siracha really sends it into the stratosphere. I've even ordered it several times through Menu Express and it was packed perfectly with the meat and fixings in one container and the broth in another. It was as good and fresh as if I had eaten in the restaurant. Not many foods stand up to the to-go process, but don't be afraid to order this one. Bahn mi - Dong Phuong baguettes are brought in from the east to make these perfect sandwiches. My favorite is the grilled pork, but they offer chicken and beef as well. Bun - If you are new to Vietnamese cuisine I recommend the pork and egroll bun. I particularly like theirs when they don't add cucumbers at my request. Cucumbers are awful and have no purpose in food. They are only good as pickles, but I digress. Spring rolls - even if you have some slang term for these rolls, their version is quite good. The peanut sauce they offer is the perfect dipping sauce so I'd order extra. Service - This is what earned their fifth star. The to-go process is stellar, but the people are equally great. One night after a 15 hour work day, I wanted some Pho and stopped in to pick up my food. I called from the parking lot so it wasn't ready and they were about to close. While there I was able to talk to some of the workers who explained the process behind making the Pho and how the owners would sometimes stay overnight if they ran out. I guess I never knew what a time intensive process that was and it made me appreciate the food that much more. In closing, if you're looking for Vietnamese in Mandeville, you should keep Viet Kitchen on speed dial.

    Rare steak pho

Maybe not my favorite Vietnamese restaurant on the norrhshore but if I'm in that part of town and I got an itch for pho, It's the place to stop. The pho is good and I find their bahn mi are well dressed loaded. My only gripe is that my favorite Vietnamese dish, "bun Bo hue" is not on the menu.

Over priced and greasy/oily. Gave me an upset stomach and that's hard to do. Service was lacking, also.

I ordered the combination plate, and it was worth every penny with generous portions and great variety. The building itself is small and tucked away in a shopping center, but it was packed to the brim when we visited, I can absolutely see why it's such a popular spot. Our waitress was very helpful and kind; although she seemed quite busy and a bit less attentive at times, she came by as much as she could. Overall, the food alone makes this place a must-visit, and I'll definitely be back.

Their success in the form of local accolades are never-ending, along with countless high ratings across several platforms. My first impression was slightly underwhelming but I have no regrets and I certainly appreciate the effort. The place is family run and located in a strip mall with a handful of tables with a busy crowd of folks at any point of the week. There are a handful of group-friendly tables inside, along with a couple of tables outside. I came during their lunch rush, which resulted in a bit of a wait. When finally seated, I admired the hordes of staff going in and out of the kitchen, along with the waitresses handling groups of all sizes with ease. I ordered a good variety of food to make sure I didn't miss much. In addition to a combination pho dac biet ($17), bo vien ($14) and pho ga with banh mi combo ($18), I also ordered their coconut butterfly shrimp ($7), off menu crispy noodle bird's nest ($16.50), and a plate of fries ($5) for good measure. I noticed a lot of the food skewed on the sweeter side. The pho broth was good overall, but was still a tinge sweet. I was hoping for heartier cuts of the tendon and brisket, but it was a modest portion at best. The sweetness also applied to the sauce in the crispy bird's nest noodle, which reminded me of something I'd find in an American Chinese spot with the stir fry and overall presentation. While I was happy with the bread of the banh mi, the spicy mayo spread (?) threw me off a bit. I was hoping for pate and butter, but that may have to be a request-onyl thing. I started to realize that from the majority of the patrons, the semi-high prices, and the description-first format of the menu (#1), that it's likely that the place was really molding to the westernized palate. It makes sense in a place like Covington, which is not the same Vietnamese scene as say Houston. It also makes sense to have some non- Viet staff to make the place as approachable as possible. And regarding the staff, they were the best part of the experience. Everyone was incredibly friendly and did a good job of keeping the place clean and orderly (#2), while making sure everyone left with a smile on their face. They've clearly done an outstanding job since their start a handful of years ago. I think for folks who are clearly more adept in Vietnamese cuisine, should ensure they know what they're getting into prior to taking the leap. I would never rule out of a future return, but I think I'd have to already be in Covington and to make sure to taper my expectations. __________ (#1) "Vietnamese po-boy" for banh mi, "chunky beef" for bo luc lac, etc (#2) Especially the bathrooms. Only thing missing are paper towels.

My buddy and his wife asked me out to dine - I had my heart set on some pho, but when I got here, I had a hankering for vermicelli. I like mine with egg roll AND grilled pork - if you haven't done it, do it - for real. The presentation was different from what I was used to - a flatter, wider bowl, the pork thin sliced, almost julienned, but everything was fresh - crunchy where it was supposed to be, hot and charred/fried when needed, and it really hit the spot. Fish sauce and a generous serving of sriracha, and I was home. Steve's wife got the dumplings, and he had a giant plate of something or other with soup, but he also polished off some of Alicia's food while we were there. I remember this dude from college - I was the fat kid, but I sure couldn't hang with this dude's stomach! Our server was so super awesome and cute, but I forgot to get her name. She couldn't say Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, but neither could I, so there. Very attentive, got our food out hot and delicious, and was a wonderful host. If you're hankering for some Vietnamese or Chinese food, but can't decide - here's your sign! Seriously, though - excellent food, terrific service, amazing company, and a full belly made for the perfect night. Can't wait to see where you pick next, my friend!

Our waitress was fantastic--she offered us water, gave us thoughtful recommendations, and really seemed to care about making sure we enjoyed our meal. The food I ordered ended up being amazing--fresh, flavorful, and honestly one of the best dishes I've had in a while. But what really set this visit apart was the owner. Not only did he come out to greet us, but when we accidentally spilled a drink (embarrassingly), he made a light-hearted joke, turned the moment into a laugh, and insisted on cleaning it up himself even though we tried to take care of it. To top it all off, he offered us 10% off the next time we come in. I even joked that I'd buy him lunch for all the trouble, and he just laughed and said, "No--lunch will be on us next time!" You really don't get that kind of hospitality everywhere. Amazing people, incredible food, and a genuinely memorable night. North Empress has definitely earned a return visit!
