I placed my spring roll appetizer and she was like ready to pick up my menu as if that was my meal. I waited and waited for one the girls to come ask me if I had any questions bc I did. Finally one came and I asked about their seasoning to see if it had gluten cause I'm allergic. As I'm waiting I see the girls lallygagging. I observed them so I finally yelled excuse me to see if they had an answer for me. She said she called her boss and was waiting for an answer. This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had in a long time. I was left waiting for around 30 minutes with no acknowledgment at all, while multiple people who arrived after me were served immediately. When I finally asked what was going on, the waitress didn't apologize or try to help--she just stared at us with an attitude that felt downright disrespectful. A very quaint dining area with super attentive service staff. Their food came surprisingly fast, like 5-7 minutes from ordering and they had several tables seated at noon. While admittedly I'm not super well versed in Vietnamese cuisine, Their roasted pork Bahn Mi is easily the best I've had so far. I don't know how they're roasting their pork but it is absolutely delectable. I also got an order of the roasted pork grilled spring rolls and again just WOW. On a previous visit I tried their Bun Bo hue and it was good, pretty middle of the road for what I expected but good nonetheless. I'll be coming back for sure to try more "adventurous" dishes. The service was pretty good and the pho was great it just needed more meat (I had a large and only a few pieces of meat) . The drinks are not free refill which sucks but they use can drinks so understandable I guess. So I ordered "Number 30" - which consisted of fried egg rolls and grilled pork on rice vermicelli. So good. We also had the soft egg noodles with shrimp, BBQ pork, chicken and vegetables. We've been coming here for 6 years and love their spring rolls, chicken pho, Korean short ribs, rotisserie chicken, shrimp fried rice and sliced beef. What do you get when you combine used golden Chinese restaurant entrance post lions and a rural L-shaped strip mall vibe? Pho Bistro! Ever since my wife introduced me to Kim Son on the Westbank, I've been in love with Vietnamese food. And ever since Saigon Noodle met its unfortunate demise, we've craved local Pho and all the grand accompaniments. Well, now we have them! I've eaten here many times and it is always good. Recently, I've especially liked the Com Suon Nuong Trung Cha Gio (grilled pork chop with fried egg and steamed rice) The chop is served perfectly cooked and mixing the warm egg yolk and rice into each other as a chaser makes every bite count. All of the Pho dishes are fresh and inviting and as is typical of most Vietnamese places, the proportions are huge. Nothing says yum quite like a warm bowl of Pho Nam Bo Vien particularly on days when the icy wet cold winds come shooting up from the Ponchartrain. The Bubble Tea drinks are fantastic. My personal favorite is the coconut. No one can come within three feet of me when I have one or they may lose a limb. Be sure you remember that the tapioca balls are in there though, or you may wind up gagging like a just groomed feline. The service can be up and down, but nothing disturbing. Lately, they have stepped that up by having a very friendly young lady working the floor. Even when I've had slow service it has always been courteous. The decor is leftover from the previous Chinese food occupants and only adds to the funky strip-mallness of the place. To change it would be to lose something I think. Part of some restaurant's sweetness is the funky way that things seem out of place. I like the fact that sometimes I feel as though I've been transported into an old A&G Cafeteria from mid 1970's Metairie until the freshness of cilantro leaf hits my palate and reminds me of where I truly am. The first time I ate here I had the Pho Tai Nam and two days later I came back and ordered the Pho Bistro Dac Biet which is a beef soup with pieces of steak, brisket and meatballs. Both Pho were very delicious! I also had the spring rolls and the regular fried egg rolls. The Spring rolls were very good, the regular fried egg rolls were okay, probably because I don't usually like fried foods as much. If you've never had pho, make sure you ask the waitress what to add to the soup. There is an oil and a red hot sauce that should go into it. The portions are generous. Pho Bistro serves as the new location just blocks away from the closed down restaurant Saigon Noodle. The atmosphere is typical of a Vietnamese restaurant: lots of gold statues out front, very simple table set ups with the usual condiments. The people that work there are always excited to see us since we are Vietnamese and greet us warmly. If you're looking for bubble teas, Pho Bistro serves them! They can hit the spot on hot days and I always have one with my pho. My best recommendation is da chanh (fresh limeade) but I haven't ordered on from here yet as I always order my bubble tea. For an appetizer we usually have Goi Cuon Tom (rice paper spring rolls with shrimp) served with the traditional peanut hoisin sauce. The rolls are fat and yummy and never disappoint. The pho isn't too bad. It still has all the flavors of traditional Vietnamese pho. Since I first came they have improved and expanded their menu. The Pho Bistro Dac Biet (pho with everything) now actually comes with all the bells and whistles: tendon, tripe, bo vien (beef meatballs), and bo tai (thinly sliced beef). Since the change I am definitely more excited to have a weekly fix of Pho Bistro. But now instead of just your staple dishes they expanded their menu to include more hu tieu (glass noodles) bun (vermicelli) and other great dishes seen on larger Vietnamese menus. The service is great. They have a regular girl now who is younger and she is spectacular. She remembered my drink order (strawberry bubble tea with green apple jelly) the second time she served us. Unlike most other vietnamese places, drinks will make it to the table BEFORE your food does (many times in different places I WILL have all my food and then my drink comes). Bear in mind I am used to the usual system: order, get your food, no complaints, pay at the register without waiting for your bill. That's just the way most Vietnamese restaurants work. But I do think they try to hand you the bill if you're "American" (no offense there just saying). They try harder to please the clientele in Slidell. Prices are very reasonable. We normally order two bubble teas, an appetizer and two bowls of pho and it comes out to be around 30 bucks. That's not bad to be full and satisfied. Pho and some other dishes range around $6.99 to $7.99 normally. If you're going to eat pho in Slidell, this is probably the place to go. Came here for dinner and was greeted with a smile (probably because I'm Asian -lol- and there's not many around this area). Ordered taro boba and spring rolls (#1 on the menu) to start off. The bubble tea was made well (blended to a smoothie consistency and not too sweet) with the boba having a lil more chew to it than I'm used to. The spring rolls (good size, fresh, and wrapped well) were really good along with the peanut sauce (good consistency and not watery). Ordered #21 (a rice vermicelli dish with lemongrass chicken) and was pleasantly surprised with the nicely seasoned and not over cooked chicken. The fish sauce that comes with the dish wasn't as pungent as I'd like, but I'm not too picky as the flavor was still there.
