I am thinking about my leftovers as I type. I was in the mood for some Chinese food with good eggrolls. My go to spot is closed on Mondays, but I wasn't letting the craving go! I took to Yelp to see what Chinese offerings there were in Slidell and came across Bruce's. I remember trying them before because I was told they had good eggrolls. When I intially tried them, I rememberordering a lunch plate with an eggroll, but the eggroll was disappointing. It wasn't until I was about to leave that I overheard a customer requesting the special or house eggrolls. I clutched my pearls at the fact that there were two kinds and that wasn't brought to my attention. Fast forward to present day, I give them another try with the knowledge of the house eggrolls. We enter the restaurant and were greeted by our waitress, finishing up something she was doing, she was the only one working the front. She said we could sit where we would like and brought our menus and took our drink order. After asking some questions about ordering, I ordered the General Tso Chicken with combination rice and Hot 'n Sour Soup with an order of House Eggrolls. My date ordered the Sesame Chicken with combination rice and upgraded to the House Eggroll. My soup came out first and then my eggrolls. The soup was delicious, Hot 'n Sour is my favorite and every restaurant's is different. I then got to my eggroll, OMG! It was finger licking good! I devoured it and have to stop myself from eating the other to leave room from my other food. Once that arrived, I truly enjoyed every bite. You don't receive as large of portion as most restaurant I frequent, but it was plenty enough and there were leftover. I am glad I have found my go to Chinese spot in Slidell now. I will try to have some self control and not stop in for eggrolls every time I am in the area. Our waitress was so sweet, helpful and attentive. The restaurant is nice and quaint. We visited after lunch, so there was no other patrons when we visited. I will definitely be back. Until we meet again! read more

Randomly wanted some Chinese food and saw this place on yelp. Ordered pepper steak with shrimp fried rice. I was told that shrimp fried rice was only available on Friday so I had to get chicken fried rice. Thought it was strange that shrimp fried rice would not be available. The lady who helped me was very nice. Plate came out hot. The pepper steak had really good flavor. The chicken in the chicken fried rice was kind of cold. This is spot on, exactly what I was in hunger for. They have daily specials and a lot of menu options. The food is good and made to order. I had the sweet and sour chicken with a large house rice w/ two egg rolls and my wife and kids had the steak and broccoli and the shrimp and broccoli and all entrees was really good. The PORTIONS ARE ENOUGH TO SPLIT. Very nice customer service! Homemade pork and shrimp egg rolls were top notch! Serving sizes were abundant! The shrimp in the Shrimp and Lobster were large and delicious. The fried chicken in the Boneless Chicken and Vegetables was crispy on the top but mushy on the bottom, which is pretty typical as it sits atop the sauce. However, the negatives were overall blandness and thick, gooey sauce (likely because of too much corn starch). The fried rice was unimpressive. It had small shrimp and soy sauce but not much else but it was well cooked; just very bland. The vegetables were overcooked and mushy in a sauce that reminded one of snot bc of its consistency, which made ya not want to eat it! I gave them 4 stars because I think they can be a 4 star with some minor attention and they are not as bad to be a 3 star. Again, very friendly and nice, and reasonably priced with good sized portions! But the blandness and thick sauces have to be corrected. read more

We called to order. They were out of Moo Shu Pork, they were out of Mandarin duck. We ordered food Curry chicken, four seasons, fried rice dumplings and hot and sour soup. The chicken in the curry appeared to have been boiled in the sauce. Not cooked and then had the sauce added. The dumplings were fine. The four seasons might have been cooked the same way. Not stir fried. Worst Chinese food I have had in 30 years. read more

We called and asked if our order had been messed up but were told that mandarin means gravy in southeastern Louisiana. Um, I'm sorry what? A Chinese restaurant should not even serve gravy?? I've travelled extensively and never heard that "mandarin" (which means Orange everywhere else on earth) translates to fried chicken in gravy. The friend rice was brown rice with chunks of ham. Take out order ready in 15 min. No wait to speak of. We ordered pork egg rolls, lo mein, fried rice, curry chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. The egg rolls were fine, nothing noteworthy. Lo mein has really nice flavor and quality ingredients. The noodles, unfortunately, were over cooked. For me it ruined the dish, but I could tell it had potential and would be very good if the noodles weren't mushy. Curry and sweet and sour chicken dishes were quite nice. We ordered them based on someone else's review and were pleased with that decision. I love that you can choose white or dark meat for the chicken dishes. I would give them 3 stars based on the overall experience and my history with amazing Chinese food, but for what is available in Slidell it is easily a 4 star restaurant. I tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. I ordered chicken wings with fried rice, egg roll and crab rangoons. I have to say it was really bland. The rice had not flavor At all. A dash of oyster sauce and some egg could have took to another level. The chicken wings were ok. The egg roll was bland as well and the crab rangoons were inedible. It's astonishing to me that this business has been open for three years and they had no reviews or photos. It's clean, the service is good and the food is phenomenal! My son had eaten there on several occasions but it was my first time. He ordered the sweet and sour chicken and I ordered the curry chicken. My hubs ordered the beef and broccoli and my other son ordered the house special fried rice, which is fried rice with chicken, beef, pork and tiny shrimp. We got an order of crab rangoons to split. They brought out 5 large rangoons, which were folded more like a pie and not like the typical rangoons you'd see other restaurants put out on a buffet. They had great flavor and were obviously homemade. The waitress brought out our food and ohmygosh...my son's sweet and sour chicken was the real deal, not those little overly breaded tempura nuggets with the thick, sickeningly sweet red sauce. It was a chicken breast lightly battered in tempura batter and fried to perfection and sliced, drizzled with a real sweet and sour glaze, topped with peppers, pineapple and a cherry. My curry chicken was delicious, but after one bite of that sweet and sour chicken, I boxed up the curry to bring home and ordered my own plate of sweet and sour chicken. I've never done anything like that in a restaurant before, but I knew I had to have that dish! Everyone really enjoyed their meal. My son told me that the mandarin chicken is spectacular as well. This is not a buffet type place. Your food is cooked fresh to order here. They do give you your choice of white rice, fried rice or lo mein, and they will ask if you want white meat or dark meat chicken, and you can choose between soup and an egg roll. The price for 5 entrees, 4 drinks, and an order of crab rangoons was about $63 before the tip. That's not bad at all, but they also have a lunch menu that's $5. This place is off the chain! I will literally drive all the way from Mobile to Slidell (1.5 hours), just to eat there. No joke! read more

The Kung Pao chicken is my favorite at Bruce's followed by a close second of the pan fried dumplings. I live over by Slidell Memorial Hospital and will drive past several other Chinese restaurants to go to Bruce's. As a product of Covid, they have shut down their dining area and are only doing takeout. They provide a great product and a healthy serving of it. read more

My family and I went to the Cajun Encounters Tour just down the road and decided to stop here for lunch after. Their $5 lunch special includes many yummy entrees plus one side. We were a party of 9 and they were easily able to accommodate us. The service was fast and polite, and food was delicious and very affordable.
