This busy, usually crowded place leaves nothing to the imagination Chinese-wise, and plentiful boiled shrimp ( large), crawfish, sometimes mussels , oysters, a la New Orleans and handmade sushi reign. Oh wow! This place is truly a hidden gem. The day I found this place on Yelp, it was a holiday and they were closed. They're actually closed on Sunday's and most US holiday's. So, when I was back in the area, we stopped again and had a chance to try their food and it was worth coming back to. I was only in the mood for soup that particular day and their wonton soup did it for me. It is excellent, flavorful and I highly recommend it. In fact, much of the food I smelled cooking back there was reminiscent of a good ole fashioned authentic Chinese restaurant. The dining area was closed off and there's a small spot near the front door to grab your food. I can tell their ingredients are not the same as many storefront take out joints and that's worth knowing. My husband and I are retired Army officers and we have lived and worked all over the world. We have been in Slidell visiting for a month and decided to try Chinese House for dinner based on the Yelp rating. I cannot express how horrible and tasteless this food was. We ordered the General Tso's chicken and an order of combination fried rice. The chicken breading was soggy and flaccid and the chicken inside was hard and dry. The rice was utterly tasteless and had this weird aftertaste to it. It was so bad that I spit it out into a napkin. I don't know where these people learned to cook, but what I ate was definitely NOT Chinese. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. This food went straight into the garbage. read more

I love this place! It's just a little hole in the wall place but the food is great and the portions are big and the prices are low. I have had to be in town for work and this has been my goto place. I am trying to sample the menu but because the portions are so big it's making it difficult as I have enough leftovers for another complete meal. Oh well, I'm not complaining. This restaurant is serving take out during COVID. I called in my order which was fried rice, a large wonton soup, and crab rangoons. The service was great and the employee that handed me my order was very friendly. However when I got home and served myself I was very disappointed with my meal. The first thing that I noticed was the wonton soup had wontons that weren't the shape of typical wontons and had very little stuffed in them. A hidden treasure in Slidell. I'm picky about food... and this place is the best Chinese food around. It's a small place but very very good. The food is super fresh and taste wonderful. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the cleanliness. It's super clean...you can see right into the kitchen and it's super clean in the kitchen also. Big thumbs for that. This place used to be fabulous when the original owner was still alive. Food was great, plentiful....since the new owners have taken over, it is hit or miss - never any consistency. I quit going for a while because you could never tell when the grease would be fresh...nothing worse than egg rolls fried in old grease. Well, they were closed for a while, so I decided to give it another try to see if they made any improvements. No, the grease was old. I ordered the boneless fried chicken with vegetables. There was no sauce - it was liquid that cannot even be called broth because it was flavorless. I got exactly 6 thin slices of dark meat chicken. Though cooked, the broccoli was not fresh and was starting to yellow. I've given up hope that they will improve and won't be back. read more

One of the best chinese restaurants in Slidell. The food tastes so fresh and is cooked with tasty veggies, herbs, spices, and peppers. Everything here is delicious. The lady at the front is very nice and the customer service is great. I don't think I could find anything bad to say about this place. If they could deliver it'd be amazing but it's really nothing to go in and eat or just order takeout. It is a small place with about 5 or 6 tables but it's not usually packed. I don't know when it happened, but Chinese House is being managed by new owners. Gone are the booths, replaced by table and chairs. The food, sadly, is substandard. The shrimp toast is no longer made from scratch, but frozen and grease laden. The chicken is no longer plump and tasty, but small and filled with gristle. The gravy has an odd flavor. Don't know where Mollie went... but we have been eating here for over 15 years. This is a good take out chinese restaurant, my favorite in the area. We order at least once a week, Family owned and related to the Yee family which is known for good chinese in this area. Love the Sesame chicken. Great combination fried rice, better than any other place, full of meat and veggies. You can make a meal just on the combination rice. Also offers white meat on chicken dinners. I love the Mandarian chicken too. Also great Shrimp toast. All meals are done in about 10 minutes and they mean it, always hot and fresh. Service is great ,family works and knows there repeat customers when you come in. Don't judge this restaurant by Mollie . Only a few booths to eat so we always take home. read more
