Sogo gives you noodles and rice with your hibachi order standard, while Fuji does rice and you can ask for noodles or a mix for additional charge. The hibachi experience at Sogo was genuinely fun, and the hibachi chef was fantastic. One thing we learned from another family at our table was to tip the hibachi chef directly in cash at the end--we tipped through our card payment, but apparently cash is more customary for the chef specifically, so that's good to know for next time. Unfortunately, the experience ended awkwardly for us. While my family and I were still talking and I was still eating, a staff member came and picked up my noodles even after I mentioned I was still eating. I honestly think he may not have heard me because he had an AirPod in, but it definitely made us feel rushed, like they wanted us to leave. It was disappointing because the hibachi itself was so enjoyable and the chef truly did a great job. We decided to give Sogo Japanese Restaurant a try after seeing some pretty solid reviews for the area. When we first pulled up, I'll admit--I was a little nervous. The outside looked pretty dated and rundown, but we figured we'd give it a shot. We were seated right away, though we did have to wait a bit for the hibachi chef. That said, it was worth it--my kids had a blast! He was super entertaining and made the experience really fun for them. I ordered the lobster and filet mignon, and we also got a chicken plate. Even though it was just me and my two kids, we had to order two adult meals, per the hibachi table--definitely brought three full boxes of food home. Service-wise, we had kind of a tag team taking care of us, including the hibachi chef, which was great. Drinks and anything we needed came out quickly. What really turned me off, though, was the restroom. I brought my daughter in and it was not clean at all. One of the toilets was overflowed and it was...honestly pretty gross. It really killed my appetite after that. Overall, the food was okay, and the hibachi experience was fun for the kids, but the cleanliness definitely left a bad impression. read more

This is some of the best sushi around Slidell. Sogo is one of the places that I will direct out-of-town visitors to. We have been a number of times. The service has always been good. Sometimes it gets busy - lots of families with kids sometimes (which says something) - but the service and atmosphere have never been lacking. They have hibachi seating if you want to sit at the grill and watch the cook twirl his knives. Lots of fun. The food has always been fresh and high-quality. I love that they have hamachi kama on the menu. Historically this has been difficult to find outside of real "authentic" sushi places, so that speaks to the overall quality of the restaurant. They have a long list of sushi rolls, but this is not a "fusion" type sushi place. Most of the menu is very traditional stuff. Love it. Highly recommended. Check it out. A classic Slidell spot -- I went with my parents for my birthday, and it was really fun. Servers were friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was lively with many families eating throughout the restaurant, including groups at the hibachi tables. Food was yummy. Hamachi kama was sooo good. Tempura fried vegetables were also a great appetizer. For entrees, my parents both ordered salmon which looked great, and I ordered two sushi rolls -- crawfish and eel/avocado -- which I loved. Bathroom was disgustingly, dirty, and worn! Absolutely no excuse for a restaurant to have a bathroom like that. I almost knocked it down two stars because of the bathroom. If the bathroom was clean and not run down, I would have given five stars. 1/2+ 1/2 (seaweed + squid) salad- good, a bit too sweet Sushi+Sashimi dinner- very good, fresh, ample serving. Beautiful presentation. Way too much carrot nest garnish. Iceberg lettuce salad- i personally don't think that a handful of iceberg lettuce qualifies as a "salad" . lettuce was swimming in dressing, not good Miso soup- good Hot green tea- nice sized pot of tea Service was good and server was attentive and friendly. Have wanted to try for awhile and finally did. Was surprised by the lack of ambiance. Not really inviting. Like booths and with only a few were all filled. Ended up sitting at small table for two against wall. Ordered the Tempura shrimp dinner with soup, salad. Soup was basically broth. A few slivers, 6 exactly, slivers of green onion, 8 exactly with a small number of rice noodles at bottom. Basically tasteless but looked like dish water. Salad was lettuce and tomato slice, something you would get in a diner. Big plate of Tempura chicken, shrimp and vegetables. But, costing was not a light batter. Contained Pamko crumbs so was almost like southern fried coatings. Not light and fluffy at all. Lived in Japan and Okinawa so kinda know Tempura. Dinner should contain an egg or spring roll, not no. Food wasn't bad but not what I would have expected. Was sorta like Tex Jap... won't be going back. The Chinese Buffet in Slidell is actually a much better choice. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! my FAVORITE in all of Slidell. Food is perfection, staff is friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. I've been coming here since I moved to slidell six years ago and this has always my #1 favorite spot!!! Forget the other places, even the Mexican spots, their food is soooo good , I use this place when I'm feeling good or rewarding myself. I'm writing this review because they WOW'd me tonight, I was in so quick, while my waiter is consistently checking on me and providing refills, friendly banter. I always get the Japanese fried rice with extra shrimp and DRENCH it in their yum yum sauce. Every item on their menu is impeccable and can't be beat. Anyone you see in here is a regular! I went back, still hot and had some friends with me sitting in the same section and my friends got this nice young lady and I got somebody new. You could just tell and I don't know why, but they had all the tables and couldn't keep up with it. well, my friends were getting everything they needed. The nice young lady was helping me out too because the other guy wasn't able to keep up with the tables they gave him or they gave him too many and if that's the case, they need to give the ladies and their more tables at least they're able to keep up. He wasn't even bringing out his own food I gave him a tip, but I gave my friend some money to give to the nice ladies that did more for me than him. read more

Always a pleasure regardless of dining in or take out. Much better price than the other sushi restaurants. Fish is always fresh and hibachi is always good. Service is good. The servers remember their customers which shows me they have return customers. I'm a restaurant snob, I notice almost everything. The utensils and dishes are always clean which is not always the case in some Asian restaurants. I don't know why and I'm not trying to be prejudice. It's just something I notice. We went to Sogo last night to celebrate my grandsons 6th birthday and we had a blast. We decided to have Hibachi. Our waiter was so good and the chef was fantastic. He interacted with us all so much and even let the birthday boy get behind the grill. He loved it. We all had something different. I had the steak and scallops and it was so good. The rice and noodles were the best and seasoned to perfection. Two people in our group had sushi and they were very happy. I can't recommend Sogo enough. Can't wait to go back!!! read more

Recently been back to this place and the food is as amazing as it was before. Love trying some things I didn't have a chance to before. The filet mignon roll is amazing. At first I was skeptical, but it melds very well. The meat is lightly seared making it soft and tender. The shrimp tempura gives it the delicious crispy texture to tie it together. Each bite is like a mini surf and turf, delicious. The green mussels are rich and creamy with a hint of sweetness. It's amazingly addicting. The eel and Philly roll are your typical rolls. They are well made with fresh ingredients. The lo mein is nicely done. Not overly oily or salty. Good amount of meats with each bite. Really good and I usually avoid getting lo mein at places because they make it too salty. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. It's doing as well as I remember it. Certainly recommend trying out the filet mignon roll and green mussel! It's a must have if you go there. Certainly can't wait to try some of their other foods next time. read more

It was our first visit but won't be the last. Don't let the ambiance of the restaurant or lack there of throw you off... the hibachi is delicious. I went for the Sogo for 1 which allows you to sample a little bit of all the meat selections. The chef was very entertaining and included the kids in more than the egg tossing during the show. Slidell has seriously been lacking in good sushi restaurants. Seriously. But thanks to Sogo that's a thing of the past. You wouldn't know it judging by the outside, but this sushi restaurant is totally legit. The owners are so sweet and genuinely love what they do. The service is always impeccable. Most importantly, the food is delicious. I recommend the hibachi chicken and shrimp for sure. I love all of the rolls I've ever tried here as well and the sashimi platter is truly a work of art. Our server, Caitlin, was great. The outside of the restaurant leaves much to be desired but the food is great. I had the shrimp tempura for $7.50 and that was almost a double serving. The teriyaki chicken came with a house ginger salad and soup and the chicken was sizzling when it came out. The food was even better the next day and that's why they get 5 stars. This is my second go-to restaurant for Japanese. The only downfall is the MSG headache and nausea me and my whole family experience after eating here. My favorite is the salmon avocado roll and the Japanese fried rice. It can be shared with the whole fam, it's a huge platter of rice. Also, try it with the Yum-Yum sauce. read more

They stay pretty busy so we eat in sometimes but also a good to go restaurant . Food is great and service is right on time !

First off the service was terrible. My boyfriend and I were ready to order as soon as our waitress showed up because we get the same thing everytime we come but that seemed to upset her. When she came back to the table she threw the forks on the table, and when my boyfriend said "thank you" she responded with "mhm" no eye contact and walked straight away. When paying for the bill she shorted us $9 and we waited for over 20 min for her to come back even tho she had 2 other tables to tend to. My boyfriend ended up going to find her and at first denied shorting us. Food was good. read more
