The chicken and steak hibachi here is always spot-on! Both meats are cooked to perfection -- tender, flavorful, and just the right amount of sear. The fried rice is really good, and everything comes with their classic yum yum sauce and a simple iceberg salad that rounds out the meal nicely. You order at the counter, so it's fast and easy. The ambiance is decent -- nothing fancy, as it's located in an old Wendy's building -- but it's clean and casual. Aka Sakura Express, this establishment is located next door to a Racetrack and across from Golden Dragon buffet. Building looks like it use to be a Wendy's. When you walk in head straight and to the right to get to the ordering counter and beverage case. They have a menu behind the cashier on the wall and a menu on the counter. There's an extensive variety of bottled beverages as well as a fountain soda dispenser. They have these unique Japanese drinks which you remove a plastic top and use it to push a glass marble from the opening into the glass bottle. It's uniquely designed to keep the marble in a small space between the opening of the bottle and the lower portion with the beverage. The also has an extensive variety of items. Appetizers, hibachi dishes, sushi and bento boxes. Tonight I chose the Salmon Bento box which include the main protein (salmon) hibachi rice and vegetables, 1 spring roll, 4 pieces of California Roll sushi and 3 pieces of fried Gyoza. For $15 it's filling and delicious. The Salmon portion is thin but it's comparable to the price you pay, IMO. There wasn't any intense flavors in the rice nor the Salmon as with some of the other hibachi places but it was still delicious and not as salty. I prefer a stronger garlic umami flavor. I also order the cheese wonton appetizer and Shrimp Fried rice for my daughter. The cheese wontons were delicious perfectly fried and the cheese filling wasn't as sweet as some other versions which I do prefer a less sweeter taste. The Shrimp Fried rice was a good portion of rice and a good amount of sautéed Shrimp. The shrimp was very flavorful, a tad bit overcooked creating a tougher texture, nothing crazy I'm just very particular with Shrimp and Scallops. The dining area is well kept, clean and open. The decor is great with the right amount of lighting for a casual night. I enjoyed the seating by the window to watch the traffic on Gause. The restroom was clean, the soap seemed like they watered it down, still did the job in cleaning my hands. I enjoyed my dinner at the establishment and would come again to try out their Sushi menu and some other items. read more

Could have been much better. Sakura Express must mean that quality is going down quickly. Just tried this place yesterday with my wife and some of her friends. Ordered the steak hibachi. It wasn't quite horrible but it also wasn't very good. It took forever (over 15 minutes) to get two iced teas. My wife's and my dish were prepared for well over 15 minutes and sat on the table behind the cashier's station. The cashier never called to tell us the meal (such as it was) was ready. She sat here and messed with her phone. Needless to say, they weren't very warm when they were finally brought to the table. My wife said her's was OK. She's much easier going than me. Mine??? Well??? The steak pieces were pretty tough (my dogs were happy today). It was supposed to be a strip steak (more like one half of a 1/2" thick strip steak) cut into hibachi sized pieces. The vegetables included under the steak were a mishmash of zucchini, cabbage, onions and carrots. The zucchini was mushy, the cabbage and carrots basically raw. The fried rice was cold and flavorless with NO vegetables or scrambled eggs. All it was was bland rice tossed with some soy sauce. Perhaps someone should inform these Asian fellows what fried rice is??? For $14.95 for hers and $16.75 for mine, it was somewhat of a waste of money and significantly way over-priced. ANY other hibachi place in Slidell is much better at the same or lower price point. I actually enjoy Sogo. When placing the order the cashier, a young girl stated that she didn't know much about the menu when I asked a couple of questions. A young Asian lady/girl would have been much better versed in the menu. She was pretty much clueless in Slidell. This chic had absolutely no interest in learning the menu to help a customer make an informed decision. I wish that I had taken some pics to display the quality and presentation of this 'meal'. It was like opening a can of Cambell's chicken noodle soup and eating it cold out of the can. Freezer section steak and rice bowls would have been better. NEVER AGAIN! Woww first time here and I was really impressed! Fresh and fast, well made food! The quality of the sushi rolls were REALLY good considering it to be an express place. Best part about it is that it's affordable! I'll be coming here more often with friends instead of the bigger sushi restaurants because Sakura Express is much more affordable and just as good. Our food came out within 10 min. The place is clean too. Really nice staff! Yeah there's no table service but that's why it's an express place haha! And I'm used to that at OEC where my friends and I would always visit back in Hattiesburg. I've eaten here a bunch of times. It's been a while pandemic and all. Went and got dinner there today, it's not cheap. $40 for 3 chicken hibachi meals. And it was the worse it's ever been. The hibachi rice wasn't hibachi. It was somewhat fried rice with egg. Very plain nothing else in it (peas? carrots?) The chicken had a weird taste to it and was very dry. Even the clear soup didn't taste right and was missing flavor. I don't know what's happened but I'll never be back. read more

This place is a hidden Gem! We drove in from Orlando and found this place near our hotel, the place looks a little weird from outside but don't let that stop you from coming in. The ambiance is great, love the decor and the sushi is made by a true master. The menu is big, however, anything you get is going to be super tasty. The employees are really helpful and nice as well. Excellent menu and selection. I tried the Steak and Scallop entree. It comes with fried rice, fried veggies and a salad or soup. It was very well presented and tasted just as good as it looked. It was very clean and fresh tasting. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. The steak isn't choice sirloin, but it was tender enough and tasty! The sushi has always been fresh, flavorful and prepared perfectly (nice portion of fish to rice, and the sushi rice is seasoned correctly and never overcooked and gummy). Met the in laws for lunch today @ Sakura Express. They had been before but today was our 1st time. I'll start by saying the lomein and LA roll I had was delicious. Portion size and presentation was on point. The interior atmosphere is inviting and festive and the staff was friendly. I do have to agree with some of the other reviews and say that for the price there should be table service. Condiments drink refills and to go boxes require you to leave your table. Being that this is an old Wendy's the exterior could use some TLC to attract more people. Overall I enjoyed the food taste and quality as it is a few steps above one of those chain express quick serve restaurants. However for a few dollars more Osaka or Fuji yama would be my sit down restaurant of choice. Would definitely recommend for take out. read more
