MAY 2026 Anniversary Vacation Part 4A: NOLA Southern Grill in Slidell, LA. We were in Oyster Heaven last night at NOLA Southern Grill. It's a Hidden Gem nestled in Slidell, LA. We like to sit at the bar in restaurants and chat with people. Last night, we enjoyed chatting with the bartender Carol and her friend who is another local. I started off with a killer dirty martini! Carol knows how to make a good one! She, the cooks and entire staff are so appreciated! They were a lot of fun. Carol was so nice, very attentive and saw to every need of her customers. They offer Happy Hour 3-6:00 which included OYSTERS, raw or chargrilled! So I had both...raw and chargrilled. Terry stuck with the grilled. The raw oysters were amazing! Plumper, meatier, creamy and mild and less briny than East Coast NC and VA oysters. These are the kind of oysters you also want to fry! They were so perfect and so delicious! Next came out the Chargrilled Oysters...drenched and grilled with a melted Parmesan, Garlic, Herb Butter Sauce and served with slices of warm, garlic French bread to sop up the hot butter sauce that pooled at the bottom of the tray. Oh my oh my oh my! Shut the front door OUTSTANDING! Terry and I relished every single bite, I may have been moaning as I kept saying how delicious they were. Perfection on an oyster shell. We shared 2 doz chargrilled plus I had a doz raw with cocktail sauce and freshly grated horseradish. I seriously think I could have had more oysters! Terry also ordered their fried mushrooms, best we ever had! We ate like Kings and Queens. Dragos is on our list to go to but if we don't make it there this time, I'm so happy with NOLA Southern Grill's chargrilled oysters, I'm good, I don't need to go. I would like to compare the chargrilled oysters though, we shall see. But in the meantime....move over Dragos! NOLA Southern Grill has entered the building! Good service, it was too hot to sit in the courtyard so we dined indoors. The redfish was overcooked and a tad rubbery, potatoes was a tad greasy but crunchy and nicely seasoned. Salad was great. read more

We've had brunch here a few times, and it doesn't disappoint. If you like Bottomless Mimosas, they have a variety to choose from - Orange, pineapple, sunrise or poinsettia. They also have a mimosa flight. We don't do appetizers so I can't comment on those. But the entrees are good. We've had the Breakfast Bowl, Chicken & waffles, the everyday breakfast and the burger. My sister had the omelette with etouffee sauce and wasn't impressed with the sauce and the shrimp were frozen which isn't a good thing in Louisiana. Lol. Stopped by Nola Southern Grill in Slidell and everything hit the spot. We started with the fried pickles, which were perfectly crisp with just the right amount of tang. Definitely one of the better versions I've had--great for sharing (or not, no judgment). The alligator bites were another standout--tender, well-seasoned, and surprisingly light. If you've never tried gator before, this is a great intro. The star of the meal, though, was the Po'boy Sampler. A little bit of everything--shrimp, catfish, oysters--all fried just right and loaded onto soft, toasted bread. It's a great way to try the classics without having to pick just one. Service was friendly, food came out quick, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. If you're in the area and craving good Southern food, this spot's definitely worth the visit. read more

We did not give them very much notice, but they accommodated a group of seven ladies for my birthday celebrations this week. We were able to bring a cake which they did not charge us for the knife and plates and we also were able to bring a bottle of champagne with a reasonable corkage charge. Our server was Abbie and she was very attentive and checked on us often, and we really enjoyed the service that she gave us! Other staff, including the manager, checked on us also on one more than one occasion. This was our first time at Nola Southern Grill, but we will certainly be returning! Very happy with our food as well. At the end when my friends started singing happy birthday to me as we were leaving the restaurant many of the other patrons joined in and it was just the best happy birthday song ever! So if you were there that night and you joined in singing happy birthday to me I want to say a great big thank you! It was so awesome! read more

Hubby and I were referred here for their food. Hubby had red beans, which were good. Fried catfish was blah flavor. The gumbo taste and consistency was ok, but there were only 4 TINY, canned shrimp in a whole bowl. And, the bowl was not full. For an area where every place seems to serve gumbo, very disappointed. read more

Loved every dish we had at Nola southern grill it gives New Orleans but in Slidell. Service wasn't so good but the food made up for it. We sat outside but the water fall wasn't working but it wasn't cute but the food was the BOMB! They also have happy hour deals and specials everyday. read more

This is a fantastic place especially with their happy hour menu!!! Their chargrilled oysters and other items in the happy hour menu are great. Super super easy to have a meal from items in there!!! Will definitely be stopping in alot more often!! The servers are great and are happy to answer any and all questions you have and even give suggestions on what seems to be the favorites of the clients hst come and go. The place is extremely relaxed and the chef even makes rounds to talk to customers to get their open opinions on things!!! Complete thumbs up and highly recommend to anyone!! read more

Visited March 29th 2026 for a bite to eat with my wife and grandson. We waited over an hour for our food only to receive it cold we ordered two top shelf margaritas and I swear they tasted like the bottom of the barrel margaritas. If you want poor service and cold food this is the place for you. I wouldn't bring my dog back over there to eat. read more

We stopped in for a bite to eat. The place looked the bill of a New Orleans restaurant. We were greeted and seated right away. Of our whole experience, there were only two things that we didn't like. One was sat by a group of women who gathered for a friendly outing and get together. They didn't have a problem with that, only the fact that they had to keep getting louder and louder like they were having a party at their own house. They had a great time, and that was great, just a little nerve-racking for all the other guest trying to enjoy a nice meal. It's not the restaurants fault. The second thing was that the bartender forgot to fill my servers order for my beer. Sat there and watching my server perform her side job duties and happened to stop and check on her tables and noticed I didn't have my beer yet after 15 minutes of waiting. Then, she watched her tell the bartender and the bartender, saying she was sorry and that she completely forgot. Enough of me venting. Lol I ordered the Cajun two steps, which was fried fish over a bed of jambalaya topped with a crayfish cream sauce. The flavor was great and cooked perfectly. I only wish they had put a little more of the sauce over the fish. My wife ordered the pan seared reddish that was topped with herb butter and was also cooked perfectly. It came with two sides that were garlic roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables. Which were full of flavor. For dessert, I had the classic New Orleans bread pudding topped with a rum sauce and homemade whipped cream. Delicious!!! My wife had a homemade strawberry cheesecake that was fluffy and had a thick crust. Other than having to scream to hold your own conversation over the girlfriends table and my late beer. i decided to use my gift card this morning wrong choice....chicken and waffles..gummy waffles and bland chicken!! i was like this horrible presentation...the worker kodi told me we use the same grease to fry every thing...he then went on to say copeland's does it...i patronize copelands in metairie and the westbank location...never ever ran into this problem!! even after the remake that was supposed to be done in fresh grease...nasty with no flavor..please don't waste your money or time at this place...but shout out to the cook manager for the redo..ask for kodi i would suggest customer service classes...you didnt give a rats tale! your attitude showed it.. read more

had an absolutely fantastic experience at NOLA Southern Grill in Slidell, LA, and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment we walked in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a perfect meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home with their genuine hospitality. The food was nothing short of phenomenal. The Boudin egg rolls were a standout--perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and easily some of the best I've ever had. I also tried the red beans and rice, which was simply amazing and served with grilled sausage. The chicken and waffles was rich, hearty, and full of authentic New Orleans flavor. Every dish was clearly made with care, showcasing the "from scratch" kitchen they pride themselves on. Our server was quick, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations, which elevated the whole experience. Prices were reasonable for the quality, and the portions were generous. Whether you're a local or just passing through Slidell, NOLA Southern Grill is a must-visit for delicious Cajun and Creole cuisine served with heart. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! This was our favorite place of our vacation! We would go again, we got the taste of Nola and the red fish.

We know the owner and his family and have been coming here since it opened. This is one of the go-to places I recommend to out-of-towners when they ask for a restaurant recommendation in Slidell. It's not perfect, hence the rating. Sometimes the service is hit or miss but has never been Bad. The food has been up/down over the years as they have tried new things but in general the food is pretty good. They have the usual Louisiana standby dishes, po-boys, fried seafood as well as a number of creative dishes you won't find anywhere else. The prices are reasonable. There are some nice beers on tap (try the Abita Amber), a full bar, and creative drink specials. The overall vibe is casual and family/child-friendly. It gets a little loud when they are busy. The outside seating is very nice if the weather cooperates. They have an upstairs patio/balcony that is pleasant. The parking lot flows a little strangely and it can be a little wacky at busy times. There are plenty of spaces though. read more

What a delightful stop in our travels!! We were greeted warmly by Cody, even though we were there minutes after they opened. I'm a Bloody Mary fan and his were impeccable-just the right amount of spice-shaken over ice-just like I like them. And then there's the food... Cody explained the menu options with great detail toward the nuances of the extensive selections. Oh, and then the food came out! Piping hot, perfectly seasoned and crispy. Y'all, these French fries are some of the best I've ever had. Find time to visit this Slidell secret. And ask for Cody. read more

Service was not good.. i orderd the tacos and Mac and cheese which was cold the tacos did not have the sauce on them.. the waitress Stephanie did not notice the sauce wasn't on the tacos- I sent the Mac and cheese back for jambalaya and that was mushy and not good.. my husband' s fries were cold and the drinks were watered down! Disappointed ... they were not busy to say the least, a couple of tables had customers. We waited at the door way too long then we should have, a 2 top. But we wanted to try a place we hadn't experienced. Same thing after we were Seated, waited for far too long to place drink order. We didn't have confidence on getting an appetizer as an appetizer. So we ordered one and purposely waited to order entrees so that everything wouldn't come out together. Boudin eggrolls, just ok- nothing write home about or brag about. Just ok. Entree1- Cajun Chicken and mushroom. Sad looking like it was platted by a child, very lacking in the eye appeal department. The seasoned potatoes were very over cooked, too crunchy hard as well as the chicken. Very dry, and tough almost unchewable ... I went into the restaurant this past Tuesday and was immediately greeted at the door by the managing partner Gary. He was so kind and made sure that we were taken care of. I ordered the panned chicken Alfredo and it was absolutely delicious. We also had the spinach and artichoke dip and it tasted beautifully! Driving from FL to Texas spent the night in Slidell. I always check Yelp to find out where to dine. Chose NOLA Southern Grill. Monday evening the place was busy- it was happy hour. Just a very short wait and we were seated. Our waitress Ayla was great. My wife loved their house Riesling ($3.00 at happy hour) good taste - excellent value. I'm always looking for a good shrimp PoBoy so I ordered theirs. Wife had the pulled pork sandwich. Good size shrimp and a good serving size. I thought they had a bit too much seasoning (a bit salty). Good toasted bun. I ordered the French fries- could have been a bit hotter also a bit to much seasoning. Yep I know NO LA is known for their Cajun seasoning- seems everyone has their own special blend - yep I understand they use salt in the blend- just saying to much salt isn't always a good thing. The wife's pulled pork sandwich was a large serving size - they make it in house (slow cooked). It was tender. So I'm thinking it's a 4. Service was excellent. Food was good. read more

The sandwiches we ordered was good, the bread was soft and warm, the batter on the shrimp could gave been better. It was falling off the shrimp. But all in all pretty good. The kettle xhips seem to have been fried a little to much or maybe the grease was kld...not sure. The fries was good. The server was decent, friendly but the vibe wasn't as if she wanted to be there. Decent service and food After standing and watching two big parades, the Krewe of Zulu and Krewe of Rex, in downtown New Orleans on Mardi Gras (actual day) we were exhausted and officially Mardi Gras'd out. Before heading back to Biloxi we stopped by Slidell to have our dinner here at Nola Southern Grill. The restaurant had two levels of outdoor patio, one below and a balcony section on top. Looked nice and expensive outside. I had the NOLA Burger while Mom had the Grilled Chicken Alfredo. Nothing special about the burger except it was huge! The NOLA burger was chargrilled and topped with Swiss cheese and a Crawfish Au Gratin sauce. The Chicken Alfredo had big strips of chicken served over Penne pasta and came with garlic bread. OMG....what is going on? We spent 350.00 for food no one could enjoy. 1 waitress (Stephanie) trying to serve a party of 9 ppl. "No Help" needless to say, our wait time for our food was unacceptable...where was Management? Somebody? Then "NO ONE" was happy with the good. 3 of us ordered seafood platters and my Brother ordered a oyster sandwich. No one could eat any of the fried to hard oysters obviously fried in old grease. Please let me tell you about what was supposed to be gumbo! Are you kidding me? It's been a few months since my family and I have been there but even the last time (approx) 3 months we weren't pleased but sometimes it's a bad day. No this was utterly ridiculous! The pasta. Bad! No season! The main thing we all had and agreed with was the absolute worse....was the crabcakes, gumbo and oysters. No offer of apology! No discount! No Management! Only Ms pour Stephanie who truly earned her generous tip despite our poor meal at those prices. I'm done. Never again! Yes, I'm a foodie. But the name don't match the food or service. It has been a while since my last trip to Louisiana area. Was looking forward to some charbroiled oysters. As I am a road warrior I have tried many versions of Charbroiled oysters. These are delicious and in the top if not the top. They didn't let me down and The drive was worth it. Best Jambalaya that I've had in years! Being a chef I'm very choosy on where I dine out. My family and I were traveling through and discovered this adorable restaurant on Yelp. It really had that New Orleans- French Quarter vibe! My toddler ate the entire serving of jambalaya we got, (this was astonishing within itself)! The service on the other hand is terrible we where 1 of 5 tables and 7 servers but it took for ever to get anything we sat there for at least 15 minutes before or server ever came over to see if I need a drink. We stopped here and met some friends passing through Slidell. Had a fantastic time! Drinks were well-made and the food was delicious too. I ordered the shrimp and grits - they were very uniquely made. It was fun to try them. They did not disappoint! One issue was one of our party ordered the shrimp po-boy and the bread was so hard she couldn't even bite through it. When the server saw what we were talking about he immediately went and got a fresh sandwich and comped her. He made it right so quickly! We understand mistakes happen and he handled it well.
