My friend did not like her entree. They were gracious and said she could reorder something else. She reordered calamari but she did not like that either. She did not like that it wasn't fried. She thought it did not look done and very greasy. I ordered Heather Shells. They were excellent. I think salad could have been better. We had the lobster ravioli to start, amazing the salad with their homemade salad dressing was so good I asked to purchase the dressing this paired well with the Pinot Grigio. The staff is always super friendly & knowledgeable regarding menu items. My favorite dish is the stuffed (Heather) shells which is made with ground sirloin, spinach, mushrooms & cheeses. The spinach artichoke soup was excellent. Never understood why anyone would waste their time going to Sal & Judy's (always so noisy & table way too close together) for Italian food when Assunta is just a few blocks away. I hate giving any small, local place a bad review, but the food was very disappointing. As much as the Veal costs- we were hoping to be able to chew it. Price is high for the quality and portions. We had one ok experience while on anniversary but when returned to bring the rest of the family we were literally ignored until we gave up and left... Meal was good. Not great but good. Service was good but a few kinks and hiccups. Prosciutto chicken was nice but the sauce was broken a bit. Wife had chicken dish as well. Chicken on both dishes was tender and juicy but lacked salt. Prosciutto should lend to the saltiness but didn't. Ok though I was a big boy and added some salt. The sausage celery soup was ok but flavor was just of sausage. Not balanced well in my opinion. The Alfredo sauce was strangely sweet. The cheesecake that I was told was homemade was made a day or two earlier. The crust was soggy. Was my least favorite part of the meal. Drinks were good. Salad was crisp and fresh. Wine was great. My husband and I had dinner at Assuntas for the first time last night. It was delicious. First, the drawbacks: some areas of the restaurant could use a bit of sprucing up. We sat next to a wall that had a few food stains on it, and the bathroom wasn't as clean as I would have hoped (although not truly dirty or anything). Now the positives: everything else. The service was truly excellent. The woman who seated us was super friendly- as if we were old friends. The waitress was excellent. She was attentive, friendly, honest when we asked about certain dishes (for example, I asked about a sausage dish and she said she had never tried it, instead of just promoting it to me). Any special request we had, she was right on it, and didn't make us feel like it was a bother. The food was delicious. We started with the fried artichoke hearts. And salads with housemade blue cheese dressing. The artichoke was great- not greasy or heavy. The dressing had more of a buttermilk taste than a string blue cheese taste, which I liked (my husband wanted it a bit more tangy). For our main dishes, I got the chicken parmesan- it was delicious, nicely fried with great red sauce and not too heavy on the cheese; the side of pasta was a little light on the sauce but really good. My husband got a chicken dish with a lemon basil sauce and he chose a side of fusilli pasta with pesto sauce- the chicken was outstanding, it was moist with a nice grill flavor and a delicious sauce that wasn't too heavy; the pasta was also a bit light on the sauce but a good pesto. The bread that comes with the meal is to die for. We got a slice of delicious, not too heavy or dense, homemade cheesecake for dessert, with chocolate sauce, and the waitress made a heart with the sauce on the cheesecake. Super sweet. We left not feeling too weighed down or bleh- which can be a problem after eating Italian food. Also, the prices were great. For all of that food, our bill was $52.00. We were certainly impressed and have already talked about another visit. Highly recommended! read more

I'm going to have to come back as I was completely underwhelmed by the food and I only hear great things about this place. The fried calamari was rather soft definitely needed to be cooked longer. The mussels and sea scallops both had plenty of garlic but no garlic flavor so I am chalking this up to they had a bad batch of ingredients and definitely going to try again. This is a great upscale Italian restaurant in Slidell! We loved the combo appetizer with fried eggplant, artichoke, croquette, and stuffed mushrooms! I had the Chicken Parmesan, which was pounded thin and cooked to perfection. The red sauce is amazing. We also loved the veal Parmesan, chicken cacciatore, and the veal piccata! Me and my dad stopped by here for dinner recently, We enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. First we ordered the Italian combo as an appetizer, everything was good except we thought the fried artichokes lacked a little flavor. For the main coarse we both had different types of veal. I had the pan seared veal in olive oil and butter which I enjoyed very much. My father had the veal parm, which I tried and thought was also outstanding. I recently dined at Assuntas and found it's wait staff to be knowledgeable. The dining area was slightly bland with poor lighting and small tea candle on the table. I suggest the lighting to be a bit dimmer for the room for which we dined. The salad had too much dressing for that we didn't finish. We had two crab cakes as appetizers and the main course was Crabmeat Casserole with Fettuccine Noodles and Scallops on a bed of Angel Hair Pasta. Both dishes were well prepared and tasted wonderful. I think a cocktail list would be nice and the house margarita was very over priced for the size. Overall the food was good, it didn't knock my socks off but I may go back. read more

I dined here two nights ago with my son who was visiting from New York. I rarely get to see him and wanted to take him someplace special but close to hour house since he was tired from traveling. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was ok but when he got his meal (pasta di frutti di mare) he gagged when he took the first bite. The mussel was mushy and smelled very fishy. We love mussels in our family and have cooked them many times. We KNOW that they should always be chewy and taste like the ocean, not mushy and tasting of rotten fish. When we tried to send it back, the cook came out to convince us that that is the way they were supposed to taste after cooking them with all the spices. It was a crowded Saturday night and we did not want to make a scene, so we accepted her explanation. I gave the rest of my meal to him (pasta with olive oil and garlic) so he would not go home hungry. We even left a nice tip, since we felt it was not the server's fault. Very disappointed that they would stoop so low as to lie in order to save the $23 for the meal. Come on! This is Louisiana! We are all know what fresh seafood should taste like!!!! read more

This was probably the worst meal we have ever had at Assunta's. Went there, at my suggestion, and from appetizers to main course, the meal was terrible. Only good thing was the salad. Appetizers and main courses were not hot ... in fact, cool. We all left without ordering dessert. Will certainly not recommend or return.
