Overall, I'd give Fujiyama 4 out of 5 stars. The food was excellent. The hibachi chicken was cooked perfectly, and the portion size was huge--definitely enough to leave satisfied. The Viking Roll continues to be my go-to every time I visit, and it never disappoints. I also tried the tonkotsu ramen. It was a nice change of pace from my usual order, but I think the broth could use a little more depth and flavor. The atmosphere is always enjoyable. Even if you're not sitting at a hibachi table, it's fun watching the chefs cook in the background, and it gives the restaurant a lively, entertaining vibe. The only downside was the service. It started off well, but once we finished eating, it took an unusually long time to get our check. That delay took away from an otherwise great dining experience. I'd give the service a C. Overall, Fujiyama is still one of my favorite spots in Slidell. Great food, generous portions, and a fun atmosphere keep me coming back. If they improve the service, especially at the end of the meal, this would easily be a 5-star restaurant. read more

This is our go to hibachi spot. This night was my granddaughter's birthday and I loved how they came out and sang to her and gave her a dessert. Made the night even better. We always sit at the hibachi tables but be warned in the summer it's a bit hot because of all the cooking. From the sushi to the hibachi we have no complaints. Cooked to perfection by the chefs right in front of you. Tonight I went for a drink and was happily surprised by the size and taste! Definitely recommend for hibachi! read more

This restaurant is absolutely filthy. I had to wipe my seat off it was covered in food, the floor underneath was covered in eggs, rice, and filth. We were served dirty dishes that looked like they hadn't been washed just put back in the pile. Had to ask for new ones. The grill was covered in old food from who knows how long ago. My husband brought our son to the restroom and he couldn't even stand at the urinal because of the caked up urine on the floor and then the actual stall bathroom toilet was covered in poop. Absolutely disgusting if the health dept came in they'd shut this place down. read more

We went her for the first time for lunch. They have really affordable lunch options. We got two rolls, soup and salad. Soup and salad was very good, but the rolls were just okay. They were a decent size, but a little flat in taste. The service was really good! The ambiance was ok. There were a lot of customers celebrating birthdays and it was very loud with singing. Awful. Went for lunch - 4 adults and a 5 yr old. First thing I noticed was that the floor under my table was sticky. Gross! We all ordered hibachi ans sushi off the lunch menu (which has lower prices than the dinner menu). From the time 2 of the adults got their entree, 15 minutes elapsed before the last adult got his meal. The food had no flavor. Even after drenching in yum-yum sauce, nothing. Service was poor. I was out of drink for a while before we could even find the waiter to get a refill. Got the bill and good thing I checked it because they were charging me the dinner price for the hibachi instead of the lunch price. When the corrected check came back, they added an automatic 18% service fee because as the menu stated, that 18% gratuity would be added for parties 5 and larger. The 5-yr old counts as a party member? Plus there was space on the check for an extra tip (which I zeroed). This was not enjoyable and won't be returning. read more

This is my favorite Slidell sushi spot! Sushi is always good and fresh. If you sat at the bar, pre-COVID, the sushi chief may have blessed you with a fun creation while you wait. My favorite roll at Fuji Yama is the LSU roll, and I have also asked them to recreate the Metairie Roll that I throughly enjoy. Their rolls are much bigger than my other sushi spot, and I'm not mad at it. Their hibachi is also delicious. I've never sat at the hibachi table, but have tried different hibachi meals for lunch, great value at a low price. They are also one of my favorite places for calamari, it is served with a sweet sauce. FYI, I like the circular calamari. This spot has a modern flare, bright and full of life inside. It is always packed for dinner, especially on the weekend. This is a great spot, in Slidell, for sushi and hibachiI don't think you'll be disappointed. We've been here at least 4 times before so we have a relative viewpoint for this review. The host greeted us with 'if you want hibachi it's 18% gratuity' not 'hello' 'welcome' or anything. He then seated us and proceeded to play on his cell phone. That was just the beginning. Our server clearly didn't know the menu but we ordered appetizers. We ordered Shumai which is ALWAYS served with hot mustard. 1, they didn't have hot mustard and 2. the shumai was cold and obviously the frozen bag dumplings available at any sub par market. We also order gyoza which came out cold and was also just the cheap frozen bagged dumplings. We also ordered the sparkling sake and the server said 'sorry, it's not chilled.' That's a cold sake which wasn't ready to be served. I won't continue to pick apart how terrible the service and food was. It's very disappointing because we have supported this business since they opened. We will never return as they are definitely declining on a huge scale. read more

Slidell local don't sleep on Fuji. If you choose hibachi it's delicious but we always go for the sushi. Favorite appetizers are the Snow Ball and the Tuna Tower. Service is typically awesome, but tonight the party of literally 20 was affected. Won't hold that against them of course, especially when the special rolls quality is top tier. My husband and I picked up some sushi and a couple of house salads from this restaurant. When we got home, and looked at the salads, I was really shocked! The house salad was so tiny, and only had romaine lettuce, and maybe one slice of tomato in it (pics attached). This salad cost us $7.95 each! Almost $16 for these little things?!?! I had the same salad at another sushi place in town for only $3.00! I had thought that these salads that we got tonight, were going to be much bigger. Also, I didn't get my sushi prepared as ordered. Fuji Yama was previously one of my favorite Hibachi restaurants on the Northsthore. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Meeting with a friend for an impromptu dinner yesterday I encountered on of the worst experiences I have ever had. We were seated on the side for the non hibachi experience. Our server Jenifer came by as asked if we would like to start with drinks. We reviewed the drink menu and made our selections. Shortly after my drink, a strawberry daiquiri, came to the table with with cream and a cherry. I informed the server that I was unaware that the whip cream topping came with the drink. I asked if I could have the whipped cream removed, and apologized for the inconvenience. She took my drink back and in plain eyesight, she removed the whipped cream with her FINGER. Two other servers at the bar also saw me watching and continued to look at me while speaking to her. However, no one saw that the was inappropriate and DISGUSTING! The server actually wiped her hands on some paper towels, and presented me with a drink free of whipped cream. When questioned if she put her finger in my drink, she responded that she would have another person make me a new one. Simply acknowledging she did place her finger in my drink and she was caught. The host made his way over to the bar during this time and asked what was going on. His response, "I wouldn't drink it either". Too annoyed to ask for a manager I paid for my bill- inclusive of drink- I decided I would never return. Think twice before order anything from the restaurant. read more

We were in town on business and my wife and I passed by Fuji Yama. Since it was close to dinner time, my wife went inside to see a menu because we wanted squid salad. We were delighted to find out that they had the salad on their happy hour menu. We were not expecting a big serving since it was on special, but the serving we got was HUGE and delicious. So we've been going to Fuji Yama for couple of years now and it's the only Japanese hibachi restaurant we'll ever patronize in Slidell area. When we dine in, it's always the hibachi option but last nite, we end up doing a takeout and tried quite a few sushi options ($40) and their hibachi dinner combos, chicken and shrimp ($21) and Chicken and scallops ($22) and the seafood combo ($37) for 5 people and it was good. The food came with soup and salad. The staff is polite, courteous and prompt. Their are quite a few pretender Japanese restaurants in the area but I won't recommend 'em. read more

I read reviews ahead of time and read that they could accommodate a gluten-free diet. I informed the waiter when I ordered that I needed a gf preparation. He brought my salad with the ginger dressing (thankfully, I read that beforehand), and I had to return it. Then I had to wait for another salad with a different dressing. He then brought me soup with the fried onion rings in it and said, "you can't have this" and took it away. I asked for a serving without the onion rings, and he said ok but then forgot about me. I used to go here often but I went yesterday and they served me spoiled scallops. No big deal I work in a seafood restaurant. But they came out and told me that those are fresh scallops and there was nothing wrong with them and that everybody at my table was wrong because I wasn't the only one that said there was something wrong with them. My boyfriend and I wanted to go out to eat to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and wanted to give this place a try. I'm glad we did because everything tasted great! Ordered the shrimp dumplings for the appetizer and they were really good! I like how they were bite sized, had a great flavor too. Got the squid sushi (2 pc) and it was alright, not too much flavor but it was okay. I got the LSU sushi and my boyfriend got the volcano sushi. Both were very tasty! I got full so quickly though! (LOL). My boyfriend also had got a udon noodle bowl (forgot name) and it was very tasty too, the tempura shrimp that came on the side was very delicious!
