    Egg rolls
    Debbie W.

Stopped here for a quick dinner while passing through Slidell. The reviews were mixed and I may know why. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was busy, but there were more open than filled tables. Still, it took awhile for our waitress to take our drink order. Right after, she took our food order. I estimate that we waited a good 30 minutes for our food to arrive. So long that she gave us another drink on the house. We were first told that they were making a fresh batch of fried rice for us, then it was fresh egg rolls. Well, obviously we want freshly cooked food! But, it should not have taken that long. The shrimp Kung Pao had a good flavor and so did the egg rolls (very crispy, fresh and tasty). The General Tso's chicken sauce had a different twang to it, hard to describe. And I have never been asked if I wanted dark or white meat and if I wanted it sauced or sauce on the side. I was thrown by that and ordered white with sauce on the side. The chicken tasted dry that way. Maybe it would have been better with dark meat and sauced?! Also, the fried rice that accompanied both dishes had a good flavor, but the consistency of stuffing. The restaurant itself had a locals kind of vibe. It did look a bit dingy and had a grease smell. I would say that it could benefit from a deep cleaning.

I will have to remove the best sushi in Slidell crown from the other restaurant and give it to Koi's. Their sushi is fresh and delicious, but also reasonably priced. There is a variety of rolls to choose from and they are generous with their portions. My favorite roll is the Angel Roll: tuna, snow crab, avocado, with eel sauce on top, known as a Metairie Roll at most spots in New Orleans. I also enjoy the Supa Dupa Roll when I am visiting with my mother, she only eats non raw rolls. The name should let you know it is a huge roll, boy is it ever, I would suggest getting it made into a small roll. Finally we truly enjoy their egg rolls, a must try with their homemade duck sauce. This is a great restaurant off of Airport Rd. in Slidell. The restaurant is always clean and the staff friendly. Note: They are closed on Mondays. Definitely my new sushi spot in Slidell. It is called Koi's Asian Cuisine, so know that there is something for Everyone to eat. Until we me again.

    Shrimp and lobster sauce

I am writing this review wishing I was back in Slidell so that I could order the shrimp and lobster sauce plate with fried rice and wonton, plus egg drop soup. I have been a fan of this place since it open. Actually, I am not sure, but it seems like a new extension of the former South Seas Chinese that used to be on hwy 190 w (disclaimer: this could be untrue but the food tastes the same). The to-go situation is like a well-oiled machine over there. Just know they are always busy for a reason. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the indoor dining isn't a 5-star experience, considering decor and furniture, however know that my standards are pretty high since I've dined at some fine dining establishments so it's hard to see past shabby stuff. It's worth it for the food though. You won't be disappointed.

A place known for their sushi had good sushi! My favorite was the Carribbean Way Roll but you just have to try it all! The entrees/meals were an average take out Chinese food. They were tasty and flavorful but nothing special. The sushi was really what we came for and it was good not heavenly but good. Very flavorful and definitely unique to every roll. The waiters were all very kind and welcoming. This place is very common restaurant for families to eat.

Went here for the first time last night to get take out, ordered ahead wanted good sushi and better Chinese as most places in slidell aren't that great! Was tempted to drive to NoLA to Sake! So glad I didn't make the trek. Koi's was wonderful!!! We ordered 4 sushi specialty rolls and 3 entries off the Chinese menu side! Was so good and portions very nice on Sushi and huge on the Chinese! Wonderful will be my go-to in the future! Well worth the drive from Oak Harbor! Had a lemon zest salmon roll - outstanding! And the Mr. TSO's chicken and the Walnut Shrimp the best I have had anywhere! And that includes China town in NYC! And LA, CA! So glad we have left overs from ordering too much!

My favorite locally owned sushi place in Slidell. The rolls are big, fresh and unique. The food options are delicious as well. Definitely a place to try out and great for the whole family-- whether they're sushi people or not. There are many non sushi options as well.

I have a love/hate that they change their menu because I thought I did my due diligence and studied the menu and precious Yelp reviews to prepare what to order. But then the menu changed but it was fine bc Nico helped steer us to all the good stuff! We ordered a bunch of dishes and ate family style so we could try everything! The stand outs to me were the Pani Puri with the fiery mint water that you pour and lets you control the heat (you eat it in one bite), the Pork Dan Dan Buco Di Creste noodles (we asked not too spicy, we're getting older! Haha ), the Gulf Shrimp Pakora, and the ice cream pie from Lucy Boone! Mister Mao is where the old Dick and Jenny's restaurant used to be across from Rouse's on Tchoupitoulas. It's a little pricey but so worth it for a fancy night out!! And ask for Nico, he's the best!!

And so does their 'pics of cats' all over the menu. I am a cat person, so that won me over right there. They were running the special for a family style meal for $54 ++. You get to try so much, we decided to get 3 since there were 6 of us. I enjoyed the food more than the cocktails. The coffee cocktail was really not good and possibly my least fav coffee cocktail in the city. I think it needs a revamp. The ingredients are basically hoodoo chicory, it just tasted like all bitter. I didn't order any other drinks after that. I did try the gals drinks and they were all just ok. As for the food, I think the clear winner was the garlic noods. Not only did every slurp theirs up, fighting over it, almost all of us ordered a garlic noodle to go! That was top notch and I still thinking about that today! The dumplings were good, the shrimp was better than the rice dumpling. I enjoyed the ginger salad and fried chicken. It was an interesting fusion of flavors and a very fun atmosphere to be in. I will absolutely be back for the drool worthy garlic noodles.

We got there a little before they opened but since it was raining they let us in and we waited off the side until they officially opened. Let me start by saying the restaurant is gorgeous! The ambience was grown and sexy and definitely gave fine dining. The waitress was pleasant and gave recommendations because I had no idea what to get. We got the bread to start and OMG that bread was delicious! It was buttery, with a honey flavor and 2 spreads to use. I wanted to eat it all but knew I had to eat an actual dish lol. My husband and I shared a small plate-the wagyu tacos. Lets just say I woke up thinking about those tacos I ordered a medium prime rib eye & my husband ordered a medium rare filet. His filet was perfect but my ribeye was overcooked. They made me a new one with no problem & were very apologetic. The new steak was more medium rare than medium but I still ate it and it was good but fatty. We shared the seafood mac & cheese which we both agreed was the best we had ever had. It was a huge portion so we ended up taking some home (didnt last very long after getting home). Lastly, we ordered the praline crème brûlée....another thing I woke up thinking about Im already thinking about the next time! 10 out of 10!

Thanks and props to our waitresses, Tishara (typo?), the other lady with her (who left for Baton Rouge and came back home to NOLA), and the other young lady who's half Vietnamese, those 3 ladies really made the vibe at Sun Chong perfect. Always attentive, danced to the R&B, and A+ service to this west coast guy. I loved their two dumplings, the Étouffée Dumplings and the Gumbo Soup Dumplings. Those were awesome, those were the fusion dishes I recommend! The spicy pork was okay, good, the bulgogi beef was decent too. NOLA - Korean/Soul vibes 100%! Check it out. There are absolutely no shortages of places to eat in Hattiesburg. Some visiting might lean towards safe places with menu items they feel secure and safe with, and there's nothing wrong with that. But, if that's you you're missing out on some amazing food. Today I took my wife for mother's day as they had some special items on their menu, while also keeping their regular menu available. We started with their standard dumpling appetizer. We get it everytime we eat there and they're delicious every time. The meals we picked were the the kimchi cabanara and the shrimp and grits. Both on their special mother's day menu. Both were absolutely delicious with fresh ingrediants, balanced seasonings and amazing flavors. I'm Italian and grew up eating traditional family Sunday dinners but this bowl of pasta was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the place is very modern with a combination of traditional asian features mixed with some modern MTV inspired artwork. If you're into craft cocktails they got you covered as well. The only miss we had to day was our server never came back to take our dessert order, when we asked to order it he confused what we said for the bill and brought that instead. Not a deal breaker, we were actually too full for it anyway and we've had their desserts before. They always inventive and delicious. At the end of the day, one small service hiccup wasn't enough to overshadow what was an outstanding meal and experience. In a city packed with chain restaurants and predictable menus, places like this are what make Hattiesburg's food scene worth exploring. If you're willing to step outside your comfort zone a little, you'll be rewarded with creative dishes, quality ingredients, and flavors you'll still be thinking about on the drive home. We'll absolutely be back.
