I came to Big Trouble excited for some ramen and left with a bowl that mostly tasted like...confusion. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Katsu Ramen, and unfortunately the "spicy" part must have taken the day off. The chicken katsu itself had less flavor than most fast-food chicken patties, which is a tough comparison to lose when you're floating in a $20 bowl of ramen. The broth seemed to rely almost entirely on the chili oil for personality, but instead of bringing heat, it mostly just gave the broth a slightly odd flavor. Not spicy, not rich--just kind of...there. Oddly enough, the noodles ended up being the most flavorful thing in the bowl (aside from the egg), which is not exactly the headline you want for ramen. Now the bright spot: my server, Eden. Absolute 5-star service. Friendly, attentive, and the kind of server that makes you feel welcome even when your meal is slowly disappointing you. If this review were based on service and ambiance alone, I would be handing out 5 stars. Honestly, I've had instant ramen packets that cost about $0.25 deliver more flavor. The only reason I finished most of bowl was because once you paid $20 for plain noodles, and gave up your only time to get food, there's a certain stubborn determination to see it through.
Cool place for something different. My servers were really cool, and were very helpful while telling me about the menu. The food was good. I sat outside on the nice patio for a taste of the fall air. The shrimp buns were awesome, the fried Brussels sprouts were good, but needed some type of sauce, or more of it (if it had sauce), and the kimchi was fantastic. If they have the Pear dessert, skip that. Had waaaay too much going on, and the pear wasn't ripe, so the pear itself was hard and flavorless. I really just wanted some chocolate bark, but they were out of it. All in all, it was good. I recommend it, and I will be back to try more stuff next time I am in town.
Great service, good food and atmosphere, and reasonable prices. I ordered spicy chicken katsu ramen and my son ordered vegetable lo mein with chicken added. The ramen was actually not spicy at all. It had fried chicken cutlet type meat with some noodle, turnip, and edamame. It sounded great, but was on the bland side. The Lo mein was very good on the other hand! Eden was our server and was outstanding. The food was brought out within 15 minutes of ordering. We sat outside, not realizing it was for smoking, but still enjoyed it. If I lived here, I would try it again
Great food at dinner. We stopped by from out of town for a meeting with friends over the Christmas holidays (they are closed Sundays but were open on Monday evening). They have a very nice ambiance--it's almost like a tea parlor you'd see on a TV show. Very nice. I'll be back.
Birria eggrolls. These things are good but God are they tiny, if the prices was maybe $3 cheaper there would be no complaints..but as stated,they are delicious little eggrolls that come with ranch and a pepper sauce Beef chow fun-Delicious balanced seasoned noodles Crab dip-the crab dip is creamy and tasty,but it may have a bit of sourness for some peoples taste Chicken and shrimp potstickers-those I didn't eat but my friend loved both of them Smashburger- I liked the presentation and you can't see it but it comes with a nice size of potato wedges. Honestly it tasted just like a nicely cooked burger,although the cook didn't pay attention and still added bacon when I asked for it not to be added The chicken bun-i didn't eat these, they were my friend's, she asked for shrimp but was brought chicken instead (a slight mistake that they fixed without hesitation) ,she still liked both the chicken and the shrimp buns The question dip-homemade with some sort of spice added to it.I loved it,I could eat those wonton chips by themselves . I really like this place,its a lil pricey depending on what you get but it hasn't disappointed yet!
Cool little find in Hattiesburg (I think that is were I was)... The name of the place struck me funny while searching for dinner. I love the creativity in the name, the movie itself, and John Carpenter. As soon as I saw it I had to come. IYKYK Arrived and it is so freaking cute in here! The colors, artwork, lighting, wall covering, decor, is just perfect for the name. Blown away at the concept! My server was good, slightly robotic, but thorough, and did well taking care of me. She did all the right things, just did it the same way at every table. Freaks me out man.... Maybe she is AI, maybe it's Maybeline, heck I dunno. Hot and Sour was just ok, as was the Korean Fried Chicken. Soup was a bit cool, with excessive amounts of raw green onion. I've not seen that before. Not a huge fan. KFC was too thick with sauce, and the sauce was plain fair to me. I would have liked a thinner, spicier version myself. It was as if the sauce was cold when it was applied to the chicken. It just hung there all thick and stuff. It was still crunchy so that was good. Good on the inside still, so you know my fat butt ate it all. I do wish that I liked the food more because the place is a freaking rock star of a concept. I will be back to try some other stuff though. Love the idea! Wish I had thought of it!! '25 - 25/111
This place is a gem in a otherwise culinary wasteland. Reminded of Reds in New Orleans the second I looked at the menu and then see where they mention Reds on their menu. The fried chicken was very good, the breast was slightly dry, but the skin made up for it. The potato salad was a good side to battle the slight heat. The service was fast and courteous. I will be back when I'm in town.
Fried squid and shrimp are the best I ever taste, tender and juicy. They cooked it just right! Great customer service. Great food. Beautiful ambiance. Fast service.
It was my bday weekend and couldn't wait to try- the staff was welcoming. The sitting area was clean and the decor made me miss China. The food selection was great. We had Dan Dan noodles and chicken fried rice. The portions were huge. Although the food was good the noodles were extremely salty; way over the top with the seasoning. Couldn't get enough to drink to weaken the salt burning my tongue. My husband didn't like the noodles because of that. Would like to give it another try but not sure when.
In a word, AHHHHHmazing! I don't know how a white boy from Hattiesburg learned to cook Asian cuisine, but he did an excellent job. I loved E'ERTHANG recorded from the sticky wings to the dan dan noodles. And the banana pineapple upside down cake with Szechuan peppercorn ice cream was indescribable. The best part? Houston, our server, who knew the menu well. For sure this will be Must Eat place whenever we're in Hattiesburg.
Drinks are great, mixologist is amazing. I personally would like more food options that aren't fried but it is what it is. Service was fast and servers were attentive. I loved the bar area, very well decorated and even the dishes were decorated well!

There is nothing usual about this restaurant because everything is exceptional. We came anticipating it to blow our socks off, and it took the rest of our attire with it. Unbelievable service, one-of-a-kind atmosphere, and a menu that leaves nothing for wanting--do not come without other friends so you can try the bulk of the menu--and, the apps are only the beginning. Considering moving to Hattiesburg just to be closer to this food and vibe. 100/10 PS ask for Houston! He's extremely well-versed with the menu, and knows his way around a dining room.
We needed lunch while on a road trip and Yelp came through for us once again! This spot has a great vibe and cool decor. The staff were warm and helpful. Cocktails were creative and beautifully presented. The food was great - eclectic Asian would be my descriptor. We had the pickled veggies which included kim chi, black garlic, poblanos, pickles, and collards. The assortment was very nice. The pork and shrimp dumplings were a bit firmer than I'm used to, but not in a bad way, and the flavors were excellent. The pot roast egg rolls were a fun mashup. The okra was delicious - perfectly cooked and great balance of flavors. The pork belly buns were my favorite item. Lots of tender, crispy pork on a cloud soft bun. Yum! Locals know this place is great. If you're traveling to Hattiesburg for any reason, like a graduation or baseball game or football game. This is the review for you. There are absolutely no shortages of places to eat in Hattiesburg. Some visiting might lean towards safe places with menu items they feel secure and safe with, and there's nothing wrong with that. But, if that's you you're missing out on some amazing food. Today I took my wife for mother's day as they had some special items on their menu, while also keeping their regular menu available. We started with their standard dumpling appetizer. We get it everytime we eat there and they're delicious every time. The meals we picked were the the kimchi cabanara and the shrimp and grits. Both on their special mother's day menu. Both were absolutely delicious with fresh ingrediants, balanced seasonings and amazing flavors. I'm Italian and grew up eating traditional family Sunday dinners but this bowl of pasta was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the place is very modern with a combination of traditional asian features mixed with some modern MTV inspired artwork. If you're into craft cocktails they got you covered as well. The only miss we had to day was our server never came back to take our dessert order, when we asked to order it he confused what we said for the bill and brought that instead. Not a deal breaker, we were actually too full for it anyway and we've had their desserts before. They always inventive and delicious. At the end of the day, one small service hiccup wasn't enough to overshadow what was an outstanding meal and experience. In a city packed with chain restaurants and predictable menus, places like this are what make Hattiesburg's food scene worth exploring. If you're willing to step outside your comfort zone a little, you'll be rewarded with creative dishes, quality ingredients, and flavors you'll still be thinking about on the drive home. I am visiting from out of town and my cousin brought me here for lunch! I'm typically eating soul food when in the south but I loved getting a different taste of cuisine while here! I got the broccolini and beef and it was absolutely delicious with amazing flavor, no notes. It was the perfect amount of food. I also tried the Brussels sprouts and they were to die for. Some of the best I've had. The inside decor transports you to another place with Asian art and decor. The service was also great. I would definitely go back. read more

This was our first visit and recommended by friends. The decor is pretty cool. They have been open a couple of months. Our server was Autumn. She was great, attentive, and didn't make us feel rushed. We have the crab Rangoon dip with wonton chips as an appetizer. This was so good! I have never had the wonton chips before. Wow I love them. A must on your order. Entrees were Dirty Fried Rice and Char Siu Tacos. The tacos had great flavor. We definitely will return. This is one stop you need to make. You want me disappointed ! Enjoy read more

I've eaten some amazing tankatsu in numerous places globally including Tokyo so I'm a bit spoiled with high expectations. I can say unreservedly that the tonkatsu at Big Trouble is without question the best I've had. We will certainly return. read more

Absolutely amazing! Love the decor. Especially the red room. We had a variety of dishes. Beef chow fun, chili crisp queso, pork fried rice, garlic scallion noodles, orange chicken and pork belly bao buns. Everything tasted great and we had a lot of leftovers. Our server, Houston, was fantastic and took the time to go over the menu. Definitely will be back! read more

Service was really good! The food is creative and delicious. We got the Crag Rangoon Dip (yum) and wings, orange chicken and Ramon. It was packed and the hostess was nice and accommodating and had good communication. They also let you join their Spotify playlist and play songs! read more
Big trouble, big flavors!! This was our first time trying this place and it was soooo good. We went around 3:30 so there was almost no people there. The service was very fast and the place has a cute Asiany vibe. We got the steamed dumplings for an appetizer. There was only 6 of them and kind of small but they were delicious, it came with a spicy chili oil and I think I could have drank that sauce. I saved some for my entree. My husband got the orange chicken and it was fresh and good. I got the spicy chicken katsu ramen and it twas amazing! Full of flavor. This looks like a new date spot. read more

I read about Big Trouble on Reddit, and I wish I could thank the person who posted it. We drove 80 miles to see if it truly was all that, and it DID NOT disappoint! The eggplant was absolutely amazing. I know, eggplant, but trust me! The duck was incredibly flavorful and tender, and my husband's Dan Dan noodles were the best I've ever eaten. We have tried the top rated spots in both Chicago and New York, and I'd take Big Trouble any day. Oh, and the vibe is awesome. Definitely a great destination spot! Now, if only chef and thems would make soup dumplings read more
One of my favorite restaurants in Hattiesburg. I'm glad to have a modern/fusion restaurant here that brings many flavors and dishes no other restaurant in town has yet. Portion sizes are great, spices were delicious, staff are friendly, and the ambiance was nice. I'd come back. read more

Came on a Thursday night . Food is great , appetizers is come out great . The decorations is absolutely amazing. Here's why i only give them 3 stars. Came at about 8 got order by 8:10 , wait for about over 30mins and i have to call my waitress for what's take so long , and then he go check then bring my food right away, i have pretty sure that they have forgotten bring out my food . read more
At first glance from Hardy Street, Big Trouble doesn't really call you in...but you should definitely go. I've been in Hattiesburg/eaten at Big Trouble twice this year and it will now always be on my list when in town. I haven't been in the restaurant side because I can't seem to get away from the intimate and moody bar that I just love. The bartenders are perfect - friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and fun to talk to. I can only recommend one cocktail - cause I can't see to order anything else - the Squarepants Swizzle. Rum + pineapple =Delicious! However, I can highly recommend all of these food dishes: crab Rangoon dip, chili crunch queso, pork & shrimp dumplings and sweet & sour chicken. Go & try!! read more

This is the coolest new restaurant, and both their dishes and drinks seriously bring the flavor. My mom got the cumin lamburger which comes with a side of roasted potatoes which were spiced to perfection. She liked her meal so much that she scarfed it down before I could grab a bite! I ordered the char siu tacos. Honestly, best kimchi I've ever had, so spicy and tasty. The flavors of the taco all melded together perfectly. The pickled red onion, kimchi, sauce/spices with the pork and fresh corn based tortillas were divine. Their chef seriously knows how to meld flavors!! I also got what I believe is called the limonada (mock-tail), and it was super fresh and light. Just pure delight in a glass! The blistered snap peas of course like everything here were seriously popping in flavor. Despite all the food being top notch, somehow the restaurant atmosphere/theme along with the amazing super upbeat, friendly service somehow managed to be even more wonderful. It's the coolest, cutest Asian themed set up, even the bathrooms followed the style perfectly, and we were able to get in and out with very happy stomachs very fast (in less than 30 mins) thanks to their speedy attentive service. So if you want some seriously good food or to eat at a wickedly cool, fun restaurant, then I definitely recommend giving this place a try. The only downside is you may want to go back too often! read more
