There are absolutely no shortages of places to eat in Hattiesburg. Some visiting might lean towards safe places with menu items they feel secure and safe with, and there's nothing wrong with that. But, if that's you you're missing out on some amazing food. Today I took my wife for mother's day as they had some special items on their menu, while also keeping their regular menu available. We started with their standard dumpling appetizer. We get it everytime we eat there and they're delicious every time. The meals we picked were the the kimchi cabanara and the shrimp and grits. Both on their special mother's day menu. Both were absolutely delicious with fresh ingrediants, balanced seasonings and amazing flavors. I'm Italian and grew up eating traditional family Sunday dinners but this bowl of pasta was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the place is very modern with a combination of traditional asian features mixed with some modern MTV inspired artwork. If you're into craft cocktails they got you covered as well. The only miss we had to day was our server never came back to take our dessert order, when we asked to order it he confused what we said for the bill and brought that instead. Not a deal breaker, we were actually too full for it anyway and we've had their desserts before. They always inventive and delicious. At the end of the day, one small service hiccup wasn't enough to overshadow what was an outstanding meal and experience. In a city packed with chain restaurants and predictable menus, places like this are what make Hattiesburg's food scene worth exploring. If you're willing to step outside your comfort zone a little, you'll be rewarded with creative dishes, quality ingredients, and flavors you'll still be thinking about on the drive home. We needed lunch while on a road trip and Yelp came through for us once again! This spot has a great vibe and cool decor. The staff were warm and helpful. Cocktails were creative and beautifully presented. The food was great - eclectic Asian would be my descriptor. We had the pickled veggies which included kim chi, black garlic, poblanos, pickles, and collards. The assortment was very nice. The pork and shrimp dumplings were a bit firmer than I'm used to, but not in a bad way, and the flavors were excellent. The pot roast egg rolls were a fun mashup. I came to Big Trouble excited for some ramen and left with a bowl that mostly tasted like...confusion. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Katsu Ramen, and unfortunately the "spicy" part must have taken the day off. The chicken katsu itself had less flavor than most fast-food chicken patties, which is a tough comparison to lose when you're floating in a $20 bowl of ramen. The broth seemed to rely almost entirely on the chili oil for personality, but instead of bringing heat, it mostly just gave the broth a slightly odd flavor. Not spicy, not rich--just kind of...there. Oddly enough, the noodles ended up being the most flavorful thing in the bowl (aside from the egg), which is not exactly the headline you want for ramen. Now the bright spot: my server, Eden. Absolute 5-star service. Friendly, attentive, and the kind of server that makes you feel welcome even when your meal is slowly disappointing you. If this review were based on service and ambiance alone, I would be handing out 5 stars. Honestly, I've had instant ramen packets that cost about $0.25 deliver more flavor. Cool place for something different. My servers were really cool, and were very helpful while telling me about the menu. The food was good. I sat outside on the nice patio for a taste of the fall air. The shrimp buns were awesome, the fried Brussels sprouts were good, but needed some type of sauce, or more of it (if it had sauce), and the kimchi was fantastic. If they have the Pear dessert, skip that. Had waaaay too much going on, and the pear wasn't ripe, so the pear itself was hard and flavorless. Cool little find in Hattiesburg (I think that is were I was)... The name of the place struck me funny while searching for dinner. I love the creativity in the name, the movie itself, and John Carpenter. As soon as I saw it I had to come. IYKYK Arrived and it is so freaking cute in here! KFC was too thick with sauce, and the sauce was plain fair to me. I would have liked a thinner, spicier version myself. It was as if the sauce was cold when it was applied to the chicken. It just hung there all thick and stuff. It was still crunchy so that was good. Good on the inside still, so you know my fat butt ate it all. This place is a gem in a otherwise culinary wasteland. Reminded of Reds in New Orleans the second I looked at the menu and then see where they mention Reds on their menu.
