I bought a PS4 Pro, used, from some guy in Beverly Hills who seemed pretty reputable. Maybe he was but I got home and, after downloading some games via wifi (everything was working great!) I tried to load a game in the disc drive. Nothing doing. No matter what game or Blu-Ray I put in, gears kept grinding and I'd get an "Unrecognized Disc" error about 30 seconds later. Bleh. Anyway, I was kinda pissed, despite the fact that I'd gotten this PS Pro, 2 Dualshocks, the latest Gold wireless PS headphones, plus all the cables for $200. I called Sony CS and they ran me through a bunch of pointless exercises, then, when nothing worked, they told me I could send the unit in and they'd fix it. For $150. Well, that would have brought me into the Playstation experience for $350 instead of the $200 (and I still needed buy buy my PSVR, damnit!) so I started looking for repair options. Did a Google search, found Videomen and saw all the nice things written about Kai. I live in west L.A. and Van Nuys and Vanowen is NOT close but I called anyway. Kai said the repair would take about an hour and cost me 70 bucks, less than half what Sony wanted and near instantaneous. Wow! Drove out there, dropped the PS off, took a little walk around the colorful neighborhood and then went grocery shopping at Ralph's. By the time I was through shopping, Kai had called to say the unit was fixed. In less than an hour. The Playstation, knock on wood, is working great. Kai is kind and bright and explains proper PS care in detail and I would give him 6 stars if I could. Repeat customer here! Videomen took care of my xbox360 back in the day, after the repairs the system to this day runs like a charm. Now my PS4 HDMI port went out took it to Videomen repair only took about an hour to fix. Their customer service is top tier, they explained the intricacies of my system and how to take care of it. There are other repair places near me but I'd rather have Videomen take care of my consoles. Price for repairs are super competitive can't beat it! Brought in a PS4 that would not stay powered on after turning it on. The man there says this is a common issue with PS4 slim. It's an overheating issue. It didn't need a new power supply, but it did need new thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink. The guy told me to give him a couple of hours. That's all he needed. PS4 works great now. The cost was probably half what we would have paid if we sent it to Sony, at least, plus it was fixed about 6 weeks sooner. So take your malfunctioning PS4 or other consoles here. read more

Videomen is a rarity for videogamers becuz they can do the impossible. I saw that other Yelpers were over the moon about this place, so I had to give a try after a little incident with my PS3. But first, let me explain what to expect if you decide to make the trek to this place: #1 - It's in a super-duper tiny strip mall with a teeny-tiny parking lot next door to the 99 Cent Store. Most likely, you'll have the hardest time finding a spot to park. Since the place is in a predominantly Hispanic area of Van Nuys, the amount of cars here can be plentiful. Your best bet is to park at the adjacent street (Vesper Street) and park near the sidewalk so that you don't have to deal with the influx of cars at the 99 Cent Store. #2 - One price, No tax. Bring your broken console for repair and you'll be given a flat rate price with no tax. Just fill out the waiver form and you're good to go! #3 - There's a giant fish in the fish tank! You'll know it when you see it, trust me. I brought in my overheated fat PS3 and the nice man gave me a flat rate quote of $65. I signed the waiver and within ONE hour after I left the store, he called me back and the repair was complete! Apparently, there was an issue with the heat sink, so he worked his magic and the PS3 was back to it's normal self. SWEET! I was blown away at the efficiency of how quickly he was able to fix my console. In addition to fixing it, the repair guy also gave me a 1-month warranty! It doesn't get any better than that, my fellow Yelpers. I highly recommend this place for all gamers! I'm pretty impressed. Super fast service, really nice guy. I haven't played my Nintendo Wii in a while and when I went to boot it up, the drive made a weird clicking noise and the disc wouldn't stay in the drive. I checked out Nintendo's repair service and because it was a Wii (not the Wii U), their site basically said "good luck!" I looked around yelp for video game repair and found Videomen. I had my PS4 for couple years and it suddenly stopped receiving & reading discs. I looked up Do-It-At-Home remedies on Google but to no avail. I found Videomen on Yelp, spoke to Kai (the owner), and came by on a Saturday. After $75 dollars and twenty minutes later, I walked out with my PS4 working perfectly fine. Speaking to Kai, I could tell that he has a lot of experience and knowledge about these game systems and how to maintain them. He also gave me a few pointers to help keep dust out and to keep the system from overheating. FYI, I was initially considering shipping my system to Sony but paying for the shipping and/or repair costs, plus waiting for weeks to get my PS4 back didn't seem to be worth it. Place doesn't look like much and I don't think they care. Came in for a quote on a repair, stood at the counter for a while because the only guy there was turned around working on something. Eventually got to explain what I was looking for, got an iffy "I think we can fix it"...my system is modded so I brought the dongle back in after they took my project so they could test it. This is where they decided they wouldn't work on it. Ok cool, but could have told me as soon as I mentioned it. I think they just want easy low hanging fruit type of repairs. If you interact with the kid that is in the shop, be nice (possible ASD). Was hoping to have them fix my system but ended up finding another shop who took care of it. Years ago, while I was working for Bank of America, people laughed at me whenever I'd bust out my old-school clamshell Nintendo Gameboy Advance. So, I went out and bought the newest and brightest Gameboy coming out. The 3DS. It was blue, and it was awesome. It counted my steps while I walked on break, it entertained me with Super Mario Brothers and the Legend of Zelda while waiting for my food to arrive, and then it took 3D photos of my food for yelp. It was an incredible piece of portable gaming technology. Until, the shoulder buttons stopped working. Gainfully employed, I went out and picked up a second 3DS. It fulfilled all the needs I had of it....until the buttons stopped working on the new gameboy. I worked with it, limited to a small handful of games in my nerdy-large library that didn't need the buttons. I was unemployed at this point, and unable to rush out and pick up another one. Plus, the new ones were large and clunky and didn't comfortably fit in a pocket. I was distraught, and began taking photos with my crappy cell phone. One day, I came across a review by somebody who had been to a guy in Van Nuys, who fixed his gameboy on the cheap. I could certainly afford on the cheap. I called the guy and he quoted me $25 to fix both systems. This was well within my cramped budget, and I planned a trip to see him. He's in a run down shopping plaza next to a 99 cent store. The parking in his lot is one of those old school terrible lots where it's difficult to get in and out. I parked and entered his store. He greeted me and took a look at both of my 3DS gameboys. He said that one should normally be more expensive since it was a different set of buttons, but since he had told me $25, he would stick to that price. He also said it would take a lot longer to repair. My brain began to think of excuses to come back another day to pick them up. Then he said "Come back in 45 minutes and they'll be done." So, I perused the area. The area is kinda run down, and pretty dirty. To be honest, I felt awfully white as I walked around. I meandered about the 99 cent store looking at halloween props, I then got some nachos a few doors down at the restaurant over there. I then returned to his store 45 minutes later, and he was still diligently working away on my system. I took the opportunity to look around his storefront. VHS tapes, DVD's and assorted bits and pieces of game systems lay about in the cases. He had a haphazard collection of old games from systems of bygone ages for sale as well. He informed me that my 3DS that I purchased "new" at Gamestop wasn't in fact a nintendo case. It was a knock-off case, and that's what had caused the problems. He admitted he had spent a whole lot of time cleaning and fixing and re-assembling it with official nintendo parts. He said it'd be a bit stiff, but it should work just fine. On a shelf, my eyes caught sight of a copy of Dr.Mario for NES. I had a friend tell me upon several occasions that she'd spent many many fond hours of her childhood playing that game. Upon hearing the reasonable price I asked if he could add it to my order. Not even knowing if I'd ever see this friend again. Memories and all. So, now I've got a pair of fully working 3DS systems, and a nintendo game. I can play all of the games I have to play. The total bill was $58 for both repairs and the game. While the guy is super nice, chatty and really amiable, he does seem just a bit scatterbrained. He'll go off to do something and forget the original thing. I had to remind him several times that I did infact want to buy the NES game. I probably could have walked off with it and he might have caught it later on. He admitted to me that he's been taken advantage with this before. Nice, nice guy. But make sure he writes all the stuff down. He's also got a really cool fish in a giant fishtank in the back. Last week, I left the state to go on vacation. As soon as I got home, first thing I did was fire up my PS3, after all I had just bought The Last of Us. About an hour into it, the graphics started to hiccup and eventually the whole thing froze. This had happened before, usually while watching Netflix, so I was only mildly annoyed. I did a hard reset, and the XMB was nowhere to be seen. I couldn't get the PS3 to show anything. It would turn on and show a blank screen. I was able to get into SAFE MODE but that was it. There was no way I was gonna open up my PS3, especially with my 3rd grade knowledge of electronics. In desperation, I turned to Craigslist, which I hate. I'm always worried that I'll be ripped off (it's happened before, when I bought a PS3 remote that turned out to be a cheap Chinese knockoff). Lo and behold, there was an AD for Videomen! With a healthy dose of skepticism, I called and explained my problem. Understandably, the dude on the phone said he had an idea of what might be wrong, but needed to actually see the system, before making a diagnoses. When I first walked into the store I was still a little wary. The place is small with some DVDs on a wall and some shelves that are sparsely occupied by old game boxes & loose discs and half the place is also curtained off because the store is also an Adult Video rental spot. The guy behind the counter explained that it would cost $20 to just open the box. If it couldn't be repaired I would basically be paying for his time, but if he COULD fix it, then that cost would just roll into the price of the repair (which was estimated at $60-$80, depending on the problem) To me, this was more than fair. I was just hoping he would at least be able to bring my PS3 back to life, a la Dr. Frankenstein. Less than an hour after I left the shop, I received a call with great news. He would just have to replace some thermal paste (apparently Sony uses cheap stuff) that had dried out and he suggested a "Deep Clean" to remove all the dust and prevent an overheating issue in the future, which he was able to do. Another hour later, I was taking my PS3 home for $90. I was ecstatic. *SMASH CUT* Less than 48 hours later, my PS3 would not turn on AT ALL. All I needed was for it to run for a few months longer, while I saved for a new PS3, but it was not to be. I JUST spent a 3rd of the cost of a NEW PS3 and here I was with a paperweight and $90 less in my pocket. I returned it to Videomen, worried that I would have to shell out more cash to fix it. I even debated giving up. It just isn't cost effective to put more money into this thing, when a new one would solve everything. The guy behind the counter remembered me, saying "You just spent $90 here, I'll look at it and, if I can fix it, I won't charge you anymore." What?! Did I hear that correctly? Yes, I did! I left with some hope in my heart. The next day I returned to pick it up. He explained that he was unsure of what happened, but my PS3 was up and running! He had been testing it all day. He replaced the fan, power supply and the port where you plug in the electrical cord, for the wall outlet. Once again, the best part was that he was not charging any additional fees, even though he had replaced parts. In the words of Dr. Frankenstein: "It's alive. IT'S ALIVE!" This place is AMAZING! I went in with cautious expectations and left knowing that I will return here for ANY issues with my game systems, for as long as I can. I was talking to the guy and he said he'd been there for about 12 years. Sure, it's a little out of the way for me, but I will continue to provide my business to this place and also recommend this place to everybody I know. For the record, when I mentioned gloves, it was because I normally keep all my things in cases and screen protectors. Do I wear gloves when I play games? Of course not lol. Am I a bit OCD? Sure. But being rude and insulting someone is no way to get them to want to support your business. And tbh when your kid comes out of nowhere and grabs a customer's brand new item outside of any protection, it's only natural to feel uncomfortable.
