I had a great experience at Game Realms, I found them per recommendation from another game store. They were able to fix my Gamecube within 24 hours. The people at work there were very knowledgeable about games and had great customer service. I initially only came in to get my Gamecube fixed (it was turning on but not reading the disc). I decided to check out the game selection while I was there and they had quite a few game titles to select from! I ended up buying a new game too. For the quality of the service and the time it took to repair my console, I highly recommend this place. The repair was reasonably priced as well. read more

Legit video game store Game Realms and Game Tower in San Fernndo are my two places to go for all video game needs. I called in cause I wanted to replay my old Pokemon Silver game on Game Boy Color but needed an internal battery swap and I didn't want to risk doing it myself and ruining the game. The gentleman Joey answered and said that he can do it. I went to the store and gave my game cartridge to him he said it will take about 20 minutes I looked around the store a bit and they had an awesome collection of retro and new games to choose from. Once the battery swap was done he even hooked me up with brand new batteries and told me if anything happens to come back and he will assist again. 5 stars to Joey and the rest of the Game Realms team awesome store. read more

While I loved the customer service even for people who didn't work there but wanted to help this place is a solid meh. A lot of places do it better whether it's inventory for platforms or variety of products but this place is solid for what it's worth I just don't know what to rate it. In terms of inventory which I know can change and mileage may vary for the platforms I was looking for (6th-present) I was shocked to see a lot of open space for events and tcg (the reason why I didn't look in the back end at all) but not even half of at least the immediate front of the sales floor was dedicated to games. There's a couple stores in the valley that have smaller footprints but dedicate more to floor inventory. If you want the whole variety set this places is for you but other than that I can't exactly justify just yet a higher rating. read more

This is my go to video game store. Always a great selection at great prices. Fantastic loyalty program lets you save points on purchases. Don't ever go to this store and especially don't buy anything!!! They are running their business based on lies and fake receipts. My son saved his pocket money and bought a PS3 which he was told he can return within 14 days. The console was malfunctioning and couple days later we went to return it. They did not give us a penny back and long story short we got a store credit under my ID and we had the receipt for it. Today we walked in to use the credit, but they gave me all excuses not to accept it. Things like "oh there's no credit under this ID", or "the transaction was a month ago", "come in tomorrow, the guy you dealt with will be in" and so on... This was the worst experience ever I had with any store. This is all a bug scam!!! Be aware. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. This is for the genius at the front desk "Lucas". Initially called, and after a long ring, I hear "Jesus Christ, hello?". Needless to say I was not pleased with the his tone, so I came in person. Big surprise his tone was much nicer in person, turned in my PS3 almost 2 months ago. Was told it would take a while for their repair guy to go pick up parts. I was fine with that, however, two months passed with no update. I call in just to be told they lost my paperwork. Which was just a single paper on a clipboard with my name and number. A week later I'm called and told they can't fix the PS3 and they want me to pick it up. Absolutely ridiculous just go to Game Dude instead. read more

Person who greeted me at the front was incredibly warm and friendly. I don't think I've gotten a more sincere greeting from any game store I've ever been in. She was also incredibly knowledgeable about all systems past and present. Just the perfect person to be advising on future game purchases. The selection is pretty good, from games ranging from Atari 2600 to PS5. The prices are about standard, but when you factor in their frequent sales and discounts, it works out pretty well for your wallet. Not as important to me, but they are also in excellent venue for the fighting game scene. They have a large area in the back dedicated solely to that purpose. And while I do love me some fighting games, the people that come to these tourneys are on a whole other level. Definitely worth checking out live or even on Twitch, where they seem to stream fairly regularly. All in all, a fairly impressive game store that is clearly by the players and for the players. I remember when this first opened and never knowing what it was til a couple years later my boyfriend and I went inside to find out it's a Game store for people who love retro gaming. They usually have a great selection of things with great prices too, but sometimes don't always have the game your looking for which is totally fine because you run into something else that you see and say "Oh damn I remember that game" then $100+ you're walking out with multiple games and a system you've either never had or had before with a giant smile on your face. Kept seeing this little hole-in-the-wall on the way to several places and (as an avid N64 fan) had always wanted to come in and take a look. Earlier in quarantine, I was looking for a specific used game. Tried calling GameDude twice but didn't even get to voicemail; sent an email here, and not only got a response, but got pictures of the full n64 inventory where I could zoom into the pic to see each price as well. They went above and beyond so I was looking forward to getting my game and checking the place out. It was quiet as it was only me and one other person in the store, but I was so delighted to see SO MUCH selection, not only games, but merchandise and even a play station in the back with different tvs set up with different systems. Apparently they (used to, at least pre-pandemic) have monthly meet ups (hopefully again in the future!). Also carry a big selection of original and third party accessories. I ended up getting an original memory card, something that was on my needed list and was not expecting to find so easily. The game didn't work when I tried it at home, but I returned to the store the next day and a different associate cleaned the cartridge for me. We tested it in the store and it was good to go! Had an amazing experience shopping here for all of our favorite consoles. Maggie was the amazing worker who gave us excellent customer service and helped us through out our whole purchase ring-up process. We notice that she is having receipt paper troubles (no biggie, we weren't in a rush), she calls for further assistance with the issue. Then as we're waiting, admiring the shop's decor when we hear constant back and forth subtle arguments. Lucas was assisting Maggie in a passive aggressive way that made the waiting assistance a bit awkward and uncomfortable but left on a good note by Maggie's service. read more

I'm no games geek but fell in love with this place. I love the store setup and the ideas the owners put in consideration of game lovers and parents. Matt, the young kid who's tending the store, is very informative. Although I told him right from the start that I don't know anything about video games but he still went out of his way to explain what they do. This is not any regular video games store. What makes them different is that they have a game room with 12 stations, equipped with different game consoles for you to try games before buying it. How neat is that? It will actually save customers from wasting hard earned dollars for a game that they would end up not using after they realized the game didn't really meet their expectation. I like that about this store. They are not greedy and actually think of the welfare of customers. Matt also told me that they buy back any used game consoles, video games and accessories. As long as they are in working condition, you will get cash back. Do it fast because they will eventually change it to a store credit soon. The store is huge, very clean and has that very welcoming feel when you enter. They even have screens showing list of upcoming games for the entire year. Game books are available for purchase or peruse. They even have a reception area where parents can watch informational videos while waiting for their kids playing games. read more

Omg. Best service hands down. I would pay for shipping from this small business than support GameStop. Those bigger chains like GameStop hire employees that just want a check. Game Realms hires employees who cares about gamers. I don't play video games anymore but my kids do. They have a GameCube and their Mario Kart CD was messed up to the point of no return. Thanks to Lucas, my kids and I can all play again with no problems. The resurfaced my CD and made it brand new again. My kids have been playing for hours now with no more crazy popups! Not a fan. This is place is like a pawn shop mixed with game stop. You buy a console system and then when it doesn't work, you can't return it - there is a very clear mantra repeated regularly- no returns! They replaced the broken one that I got from there as a gift, but when I wanted to trade it in for a different system, they didn't credit me, they re-purchased it from me for 1/4 the list price. Then I bought a different system and they "credited" that tiny amount after fingerprinting me to make sure I didn't steal the console they sold. It was in their box! I am not a gamer. I don't care about games and buying these consoles was not my jam: it was a gift I had to deal with. If you want one, it will work and they have games and the staff was pretty pleasant. One of the times I went in they were firing up a big bowl so I guess they are pretty relaxed. It's just that sell for 300 buy back for 50 that sticks in my craw. read more

Poor customer service (from 'Owner' Maggie) and lame return/exchange policies! Word of advice: TEST EVERY SINGLE RETRO GAME YOU PLAN ON BUYING BEFORE YOU LEAVE! I bought 3 Sega Genesis games on Mon 6/18/18 from helpful staff (they have different staff on different days). Took them home and none of them worked. After many tries, I gently cleaned them with a dry Q-tip. Still nothing. Then I carefully cleaned them with rubbing alcohol which seemed to help Batman Forever and NBA Jam, but Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 still wouldn't start up. I would say I tried about 50 times using different methods for about an hour and finally got it to start only once! Since this one was giving me the most trouble I thought I would just return that one and grab Mortal Kombat II instead since they didn't have another copy of UMK3 (and was about the same price). Next day I called in and asked about their return policy and was told that you MUST have the receipt, they don't have an online or E-mail receipt system or log even though they have a Member/Rewards system. Came in the next day 6/19/18 with my receipt with the hopes of exchanging my game for one that worked. I told Maggie what happened and that I just wanted the exchange, not a return. I had the receipt and the game (still even had the stickers left on from when I bought it the day before). She told me they give their games a 'brief cleaning' and that they get so many games and so on and so forth. She said it might be my system (haven't had any problems with it or with any other games I have purchased from other retailers, only had problems with these 3 games I bought there, honest!) So she took my game to the back and used 'brass cleaner' for about 10 minutes, popped it in, it worked, and proceeded to tell me I couldn't return or exchange it because it wasn't defective. Really? Shouldn't she have tested it the way it was when I brought it in to prove my case? Do you really think I'm trying to scam you? I just wanted a simple exchange because of all the hassle I went through with the games I purchased. What happened to customer service or the customer is always right? I asked if I could speak to the owner and she said she was the owner. I told her because of the 'service' I received I will never shop there again and would rather shop online where at least you can get a return. This is even after the fact that we have purchased many games from them in the past. I've been treated better at GameStop, and that's saying a lot! I tell you the truth when I say I get 100x the customer service at Game Portal in the Burbank Mall, which is only a stone's throw away. read more

Game Realms is a cool place to go to buy video games new and old. I've gotten good finds at this store. The owner, Will, was knowledgeable and kind enough to answer all my questions. The staff there have always been friendly and will continue to have me as a revisiting customer. They also have a reward system that makes me wanna keep going back. Obviously I'm a gamer and collector. I usually get my games from eBay, but people are like, "You should support small business. Support small business." So a couple weeks ago, I give this place a chance. They have a nice selection of retro games at decent prices, so that's sweet. But the sweetness ended there because once again, I go into a place to support a small business and just get treated like I'm a damn inconvenience for wanting to spend money at the store. And I did spend money because they had games I wanted, but in the end, I really don't think I'll ever return to this place. If you have a customer standing in front of games and asks what the price of it is, your response should NOT be, "All the games are different prices." Really? Are they? No kidding! It was like pulling teeth just to get the guy to come over and tell me the price of the game I wanted, which I purchased. I purchased quite a few things that day, but ended up regretting it. Why the hell would I spend money at a place that employs people that treat you like a piece of garbage for wanting to support their business? Now I do want to emphasize that there was an employee, a nice woman of Asian-descent whom was very knowledgeable and actually made me feel welcome. But this was already after the other employees did their best to ignore me and go out of their way to make me feel like a jackass for shopping there. I think I'll stick with eBay. read more

I have been a hardcore retro game collector for 25 years and I am tough to please. Condition is extremely important to me which is why I primarily shop for rare games on eBay or a certain retro online games store in the UK (meticulous collectors know the store I'm talking about). I was both shocked and pleased to find this newly created store in the Burbank area. From the moment I walked in I was immediately greeted and helped. Some have complained about how the employees will "hover" around you. I would so much rather have someone focused on me and assisting me as opposed to a store like "Game Dude" where you will literally stand there for over an hour without anyone so much as addressing you even though they have a staff of 6+ employees on duty at all times. The staff at Game Realm are extremely friendly, polite and patient. They were more than willing to allow me to pick up and inspect games for flaws and authenticity. I was extremely impressed to see rare gems like Dragon Force for the US Sega Saturn, Spider-Man web of fire for US Sega 32x, and Final Fight for US Sega CD. I never see high end rare gems like these for sale at "Game Dude" as I am convinced the owner (the old cowboy) will horde these for himself to sell on eBay or keep in his own personal collection. What's the point of having a retro game store if you remove the elite gems from your inventory? I was also very impressed to see an expansive game testing/lounge area. It is SO nice to have the opportunity to test and play the games you are interested in to make certain you truly want to purchase them. I have not seen a set up like this since "Game-Express" was in business back in the mid to late 90's. Another awesome feature of this store are the gatherings they put together were retro gamers can meet to buy, sell, and trade old school games. The store generates no revenue from this endeavor and does it to bring the old school gaming community together. I LOVE IT! Finally I give this store kudos for implementing a grading system. You can quickly extrapolate the condition of games by the letter they place on the front of the box ranging from A (mint) to F (poor). Other stores do not do this as they will charge the same price for a game regardless of condition or completeness. Overall a great store and I will be coming back to hunt for more Sega Saturn, Turbo Grafx, NES, Famicom and assorted treasures at very reasonable prices. read more

As someone else noted already in a review, this place has a cool selection of older games and little trinkets like enamel pins and merch, but unfortunately, bad customer service just ruins the whole experience. I ended up buying a lot of stuff from their actually, but the workers gave off very hostile energy, and very much like they didn't wanna be there. I got my questions answered but it's the way they talked to me like they just wanted me out of the store very quickly - I just don't see myself going back unless they replace some of their employees or have a talk about how to treat customers. Customer service: a must in any business and a 101 mandatory course everyone in retail should take. When you come in and have to wait 20 minutes to even get helped, that is not right, it's common sense and based solely on that, customers won't come back. I came in here with a friend that was looking to sell video games. After getting helped, they tell us to wait so they can look up prices and give you an estimate, then proceed to leave you waiting....an hour and a half later my friend asks how much longer we have to wait, they tell him another 10 minutes. He goes back in there and it's just wait, and wait and wait. 2 hours after they're finally helping you after penny pinching for every game and saying they're scratched when it's only dust they won't wipe off so they don't have to haggle with you. They end up paying more than game stop, after fighting with them and reminding them of each item you're trying to sell, basically do their job for them. It's a pawn shop for video games people, don't act like you're buying class A diamonds. If you don't say anything or remind the employees you're here they will just keep you waiting. Like you're here begging for money and they're doing you a favor. Won't come back here that's for sure, I'm amazed they have a 4 1/2 star rating. Drive a little more and find a better place, or go to game stop, which is a lot to say because game stop isn't great either. But at least you'll save 2 hours of your life. read more

On my first time visit to Game Realms I had the chance to speak with one of the owners. He was really nice & engaging. Definitely knows a lot about gaming/various consoles. He is passionate about his business & he went above & beyond to help me out. One can tell a lot about a business by the way that the owners interact with the customers & they truly care to help out their customers here! Also, the workers are sooo nice! Honestly they made me feel so welcomed & were super attentive whenever I needed any assistance. I feel like it's worth mentioning that they still resurface games here! Not many places will anymore... Especially game cube games! Overall I'd recommend Game Realms to anyone who is in the LA area and wants to check out games from every console ever released.
