Friendly staff at front and decent rental price for $4 for 2 days. There is parking on the street with no meters. Definitely a nice reminder of the old rental days. read more

I love that Burbank has a video store where you can buy and rent, VHS, DVD, & Blueray movies. Movies are available for purchase for $5. Rentals run a little over $3 for a week rental. The store is stocked with all the classics. All you need is a credit card and photo ID. The owner is welcoming and very helpful. We couldn't find the movie we were looking for , but he found it right away for us . This store brought back great memories of when watching a movie was actually a special event. It took some commitment in time and effort to go pick up a movie. The experience of walking around the store to look at the titles, read the back covers, talk to store employees and even other customers about movies they liked. 30 years from now we'll be watching videos of how we used to actually go to grocery stores to buy food and reminiscing of the good old days, you wait and see. I heard of this place from a tik tok video and I'm so glad that I did! The owner greeted us immediately and was very friendly. The store had a great selection of vhs' and dvd's for purchase and rental. The prices were great. The ones I purchased were $3-5 each. The whole store brought back that feeling of nostalgia. Long live the VHS store! Be Kind Video brought back so many amazing memories growing up going to the local Blockbuster and picking out movies to watch. So happy that this video store exists in Burbank - and in one of the best areas for strolling: Magnolia Park. Matt R. the owner is always so nice and helpful when you need any recommendations - he's like a human Rolodex of movies. He and other Matt (Matt L.), his trusted collaborator work hard to put on interesting screenings, panels, various events, and also a vintage market in the back parking lot every now and then. Be kind, and rewind! I'm so, so relieved to see a classic video rental store in Burbank. As a '90s kid, I grew up going to Blockbuster Video and Hollywood Video with my family on the weekends. In today's active digital use of media and technology, physical media has waned over the years and is now seen as obsolete by the general public. However, as someone who is heavily nostalgic and enjoys retro aesthetics, that concept will never fade away in my heart. The store is small but stockpiled with so many movies ranging in VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray formats. The layout definitely reminds me of a teenager's basement back in the '80s. New Video star in town! More like in Burbank, Magnolia Park, great location, easy to spot from the road. Just stopped by today and the place is not 100% ready since it just opened on November 5th, chatted with the owner. Very cool decor, no pricing on anything yet! DVD-s and Blu-Ray-s are for renting ($3,50 for 5 nights) and VHS for sale, starting at $5. Steep! I am glad there's another video store around since I love media and movies and that this a hard business to open in this era. It is a tad hipsterish, hence the higher prices. Owner is nice, trying to get it together. Closed Mondays, street parking! I'll stop by sometime after things are more settled and check it out again! read more

Imagine the work and, well, hope to open a video store in 2022. Just thinking about such a thing conjures up memories of the video stores of yore...and that's what Be Kind Video is all about. All formats (not much in the way of Beta, to be honest) and a very fun hang-out vibe despite the size of the place. It's still shaping up and the owner Matthew was forthcoming on the future plans of the store. The first time I visited another customer was renting the 1997 film Breakdown and both Matthew and I simultaneously talked of the great J.T. Walsh. This was the kind of convo that used to happen all the time & now can again! So glad such a space exists and can't wait to see what will happen in '23. read more

A cool little store with a bit of nostalgia! Only drawback is their VHS selection. It's a shame that they'll charge you anywhere between $50-$75 for certain VHS tapes that are never tested. As a collector that sucks, because you either go for broke and end up with a tape that doesn't work or end up with a great copy. Definitely a gamble. read more

Yea the new generation wouldn't appreciate or understand that but man I was so happy to be in that store. They have tons of stuff for rent and purchase. Such a fun throwback to the home rental videos era. It's nice to take a weekend trip with the family to rent old movies (my favorite are the vhs) then come home, make popcorn and watch the nostalgia. Or even watching movies that were missed in the past, especially on VHS. Priced for everyone to come and have a good time. It's a certified gem in Burbank read more

We LOVE having a local video rental place! Where else can we rent Halloweentown and Halloweentown 2? Where else can we rent a whole collection of Shirley Temple movies? Where else can we browse real physical media when choose what we want to watch? They have so many great titles and they're always getting more. They have DVDs, laserdisks, VHS, whatever you can think of. Plus we always feel like we're so welcome. It's so fun to visit and look around, we're always coming back. Also! I cannot recommend this shop enough, I have had the best and most enjoyable video rental store experiences in recent memory here. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about movies (on top of giving fantastic recommendations). Everyone I have encountered behind the counter or organizing the shelves is very kind, and above all, helpful. The store is well stocked with classics as well as rare and uncommon titles not easily accessible on streaming services, which I very much appreciate! The selection is very well distributed among DVDs, Blu-Rays, 4K Blu-Rays, and VHS tapes (the last of which I believe are for sale, not rent). The prices are also incredibly reasonable, giving what I think is the best bang for your buck, entertainment wise, in the area! I am proud to be a regular patron of this spot and feel it is an absolute must-visit spot in Burbank. read more

My son just repaired a vcr and wanted to get some blank tapes. We were in the area so I thought we'd stop in. They have the blank tapes we wanted and then so many movies to choose from and the prices were more than fair. The owner said they're moving to a larger location and I couldn't be more excited for their success! Such a unique spot that adds to our community. read more

Great little shop. The pricing seems very reasonable to me, not sure what that other reviewer is on about. It's 2022 and a dented can of beans costs $16, $3 for a 5-day rental isn't bad at all. The guy running it is super helpful and friendly. We had fun looking around and rented a couple DVDs. Looking forward to supporting this new addition to the neighborhood! read more

It's about time that another video store opened in the valley, as the only remaining one had closed last year. Be Kind offers VHS for sale and DVD/Blu-Rays for rent, with an eclectic selection ranging from mainstream flicks to more esoteric art house fare. The experience of browsing at a video store is one that I missed, and their catalogue is great because it includes many gems that are not available on any streaming service. The decorum is awesome and really plays on the 80s/90s nostalgia trend, so anyone pining away for the blockbuster days will have a good time. So excited to have this kind of store in Burbank! Went in today and the owner was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. He was very familiar with the collection and had exactly what I was looking for. My video rental was easy and more affordable than renting the movie to stream! Plus, the store itself is so cozy and filled with nostalgia, I didn't want to leave! He even gave my wife and I a free Goofy Movie sticker. We will definitely be returning and I plan on making a habit of perusing the videos and renting movies again! The first employee immediately looked at me, and with a pretty obvious attitude said, "We only buy games before 6:30." Okay... how exactly was I supposed to know that? There was no prior reason for me to know their cutoff time, and it could have easily been communicated in a much more professional and respectful way. I decided not to make a big deal out of it and figured I'd browse the store and maybe buy something instead. Another employee asked if I needed help, and I told him I was just browsing. A little later, I asked him about some of the games on the wall and whether they were used. He said yes. I then asked what the games typically cost, expecting a simple answer from someone who works there. Instead, I was told, "You can just go check the sheet on the side to see what the games are worth." Seriously? I'm a customer asking a basic question about your store's inventory and pricing. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm bothering employees by asking for information. There's a huge difference between being busy and simply having poor customer service. It's absolutely no one's fault that most of you are virgins. Anywho, I walked in willing to sell some games and potentially spend money, and I walked out thinking, I'll take my business somewhere else. The video game selection may be decent, but customer service matters. If this is how customers are treated when they walk through the door, I can't recommend this place. Don't waste your time with these jerkoffs.

This spot used to have another name (I think it was Video Hut), and we found out it was closing at the end of 2018, so we were sad. It's so nice to have a video store withing walking distance. We were happy to know that the new owner of the storefront was not some gentrified expensive business or coffee house, but rather another person that wanted to continue the video store, so we scored. I remember the video store experience from when I was a kid. It's always nice to be able to peruse the movies by hand, and find something that maybe you weren't expecting to be good or interesting. The store is neat, and they offer a selection of not only brand new movies (they get them pretty quickly, and the discs are always kept in perfect condition by the store, so no worries about getting scratched discs like often happens with RedBox or Netflix). They also often have multiple copies, so you can probably get a new release without worrying that everyone rented them out. Alex Video offers both DVD and Blu-Ray movies (sometimes the same movie in both formats). They have a good section of movies for kids, as well as older movies, not just new releases. They also offer movies for sale sometimes. They also have a small selection of games for rent, as well as popcorn and snacks for movie night! The staff is all very nice and friendly, and they speak English and Spanish to cater to the Highland Park community. If you're looking for an actual video rental spot, please check out Alex Video!

There's classic porn from the 70s, 80s and 90s. There are Criterion discs. There are John Huston movies, Godard movies, Wim Wenders and David Lynch. Dario Argento horror movies. Sci-fi. Pre Sci-fi. Post Sci-fi. Brazilian. African. Silent films... I could go on and on. If you are looking for an obscure out of print classic film that's not on streaming, there's an 80% chance that you can find it here to rent. There is street parking nearby. The problem? I live in OC and this place is in Mount Washington/Montecito Heights. So if I move down there, I'll be renting some unheard of movies, that's for sure!

The first employee immediately looked at me, and with a pretty obvious attitude said, "We only buy games before 6:30." Okay... how exactly was I supposed to know that? There was no prior reason for me to know their cutoff time, and it could have easily been communicated in a much more professional and respectful way. I decided not to make a big deal out of it and figured I'd browse the store and maybe buy something instead. Another employee asked if I needed help, and I told him I was just browsing. A little later, I asked him about some of the games on the wall and whether they were used. He said yes. I then asked what the games typically cost, expecting a simple answer from someone who works there. Instead, I was told, "You can just go check the sheet on the side to see what the games are worth." Seriously? I'm a customer asking a basic question about your store's inventory and pricing. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm bothering employees by asking for information. There's a huge difference between being busy and simply having poor customer service. It's absolutely no one's fault that most of you are virgins. Anywho, I walked in willing to sell some games and potentially spend money, and I walked out thinking, I'll take my business somewhere else. The video game selection may be decent, but customer service matters. If this is how customers are treated when they walk through the door, I can't recommend this place. Don't waste your time with these jerkoffs.

Analog Media is mostly specific for the ancient medium of VHS video cassette tapes. Do they still manufacture video cassette machines? Whammy also has movie showings that no commerical movie theatre would take on since it would interest a very focused audience. Limited seating of about 30. Tickets are sold through their website as well as a monthly calendar of events. Tonight's theme is Dirty Looks, which delves into two disparate themes, one in the New York City Camp Drag scene and the other in San Francisco featuring a dream-like pastiche of the working class strugglIng to make sense of a surrealistic world. I will post screen shot synopes of both performances from the Whammy for those who want further info. Tom Rubnitz's Psykho III The Musical, a camp drag version of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho was droll and light heartedly entertaining in a home movie style much like John Waters' Pink Flamingo. But it was a tough slog to watch Curt McDowell's Taboo much like David Lynch's Eraserhead that was so ridiculously boring that my friends and I had to leave midway through. I'm glad that Whammy is doing its thing. It's a store that seems transported from an alternate universe or that my passing through the gated portal transported me to that alternate reality. Enter from the rear of the building on Rampart and not Sunset Blvd. 4 stars for being an ultra customized reference center for the video specialist.
